Can I get into recovery mode without a working home button? My i9100 has a faulty home button, phone is stuck on a bootloop will not get pass the samsung logo screen. I can flash the phone in odin with a stock rom and finish with success but still get stuck on bootloop. I think if I can get into recovery to wipe data then the phone will boot all the way. Any help is appreciated. I've searched but have found nothing solid. Thanks!
Buy a usb jig off ebay. plug it in then turn your phone on and it will put it into download mode.
e.g.

well i guess hes already got a jig. was wondering how he got in download mode with a broken home
I can get into download mode by pressing and holding volume down + pressing and releasing power but still holding volume down when turning the phone on. But my question is, how do I get into recovery without home button?
Flash a matching Chainfire CF root kernel via Odin (phone in DL mode). This with install his Cwm app. Once rebooted, run app (give su permission), and choose to boot into either clockwork recovery, dl mode, or reboot.
Edit: But once in recovery, how do you plan to actually select anything when the home button doesn't work? ? ?

He cant boot up, he's stuck at boot logo so no way to use the cwm from chainfire
Oh dear without the home button it's hard to operate the phone. I think you can boot into recovery mode by using ADB, search on the forums or Google.
I would rather you have the home button replaced ot fixed.
Cheers!

Use can use QtADB to get into recovery - just tried, it works. But the option "flash zip" doesn't work, and of course,................
how do you plan to "select" anything if the home button doesn't work? ? ? Can't think of any way just yet.

If you have adb setup, and know how to use it;
1. Copy the Custom ROM.zip to your sdcard folder on the phone
2. Rename to "update.zip"
3. Run CMD and navigate to the sdk tool folder where adb.exe is
4. Run "adb reboot recovery" to enter recovery mode
5. Phone to boots into recovery screen
6. "apply: /sdcard/update.zip"
7. After finish, reboot into new ROM
Haven't tried it myself though on the SGS2 ..............
tried it, didn't work..
Lost my Home button after odin flash HELP
I am stuck a i9100 that has no home working home button after i botched my first odin flash. I can not seem to get the device to be recognized by ADB or ODIN now that its messed up. I can boot into the Android Recovery System e3, and i can move up and down in the menu, but the 'home' button i used to select options no longer works. I can not get it to boot out of that menu.
This is a Sprint branded i9100 from the United States... tho when i got it, it was already 'rooted' with Gingerbread-Eg30 however it did not state the firmware version. So after i used ODIN to ref lash it... it rebooted and killed my home key... Now i am not sure what to do. ADB is not finding the device listed and I can't seem to get it to take a rom. Any suggestions?
Prior to flashing this rom in odin i had a working home key which was used as part of the 3 button combo to ender flashing mode or to select an option in the stock recovery menu.
Any help would be great!

I am having the same problem. My I9100's home button doesn't work. I had cyanogenmod 10.1 and cwm recovery installed. Used the button saviour app to operate a virtual home button on screen. Updated to cyanogenmod 10.2. nightly yesterday. All seemed working. Today I found that some apps like Google Play and ROM Manager would crash on when started. So I thought I go back to cyanogenmod 10.1. Started the installation of 10.1 from the "about this phone" settings because ROM Manager crashed and I couldn't boot into recovery from the crashing ROM Manager.
So, I now flashed a stock firmware from samfirmware.com with ODIN (because I can get into download mode with the USB-Jig), but that stock rom stucks in a boot loop.
Any suggestions? I believe, I am stuck in boot loop because I couldn't wipe the phone before flashing. Is there any way to wipe it in download mode?
Or can you be more specific, how to flash a "full wipe rom" and post a link where I can download such a rom?
1. Don't use rom manager on i9100, sure way to screw things up /brick.
2. Get the hardware sorted before you muck around with software. As you have found out, it's easy to get into a situation where you need the hardware to function correctly.
3. Download JB leak (stock firmware) from samfirmware and flash it via Odin. It's a 3 part firmware, and will wipe as it flashes.
Sent from a galaxy far, far away
Hi there, recently a friend of mine who is on china brought me a souvenir, Yes it was Samsung Galaxy SIII. And yes again, it is my first android phone.
The phone comes with no play store and heck a lot of chinese apps from china-unicom one of the biggest operator in china.
I know nothing about chinese (chinese as in the letter) hence i read forums, and i downloaded the ROM for indonesia Galaxy I9300, and I flash the phone using ODIN v3.04. and Unfortunately, or the flashing failed and now my phone is stuck at "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue, please select recovery mode in KIES & Try again"
I downloaded the KIES, and when i found the "EMERGENCY FIRMWARE RECOVERY, he asked me for pin which i dont know.
any help is appreciated
Cheers
Win Chandra
Just flash the firmware again using Odin v1.85.
That would do the trick.
Just get the phone in download mode and flash it.

I would say to first get the phone unlocked and then you can flash another rom. There are some apps on playstore to unlock a phone i think.
Use supercurio's galaxy s3 unlock from market and use mskip's "galaxy s3 toolkit v.4" to get root, cwm, backup(to pc) and flash though Odin. Perfect noob toolbox for flashing.
remember to backup your EFS folder with K-TOOL(very important) , get it from market
I cant get the phone into download mode. The download mode is when you press and hold the vol down + power + home right? But nothing happened

Power off the phone. Then press vol down + home key and after 2 sec the power key. After that hold them for around 4,5 seconds.
Hi guys! Yesterday I decided to unlock the bootloader, flash recovery (twrp 2.8.6) and the cyanogen 11 nightly. Everything went good until I tried to install the gapps, I noticed that the physical shortcut to enter in recovery (after the turning off, of course) didn't worked: the phone restarted or boot up the rom, but I was able to enter in recovery from the advanced restart menu from the rom. Going into the info of the phone where it says kernel there was written "unknown" and no way to overclock. So I decided to reinstall the kernel (the cyanogen11extended) from twrp, everything went good except that I couldn't restart into recovery, it stuck on rebooting until shutdown. So I tought let's use fastboot to erase ad flash the recovery partition and the kernel, but it didn't do anything even if on the cmd said okey and finished in something about a second, but when i tried to enter in recovery I always get stucked on rebooting. So I tought"well if I have the system image I could flash it with fastboot and restore the stock kernel", so I erased the system partition and tried to flash the system.img and I get the message that it is too big for the destination device. Now I don't have a system installed tye hotkeys don't work and I'm stuck on LG screen logo.
There is a solution or do you suggest to send the device in warranty, instead?
Pull the battery and try to enter download mode.
Hi vagelis! You mean without the battery? The hotkey is vol up+power, right?
Edit: i tried without the battery pressing the vol up + power (also tried with vol down + power) and it doesn't work, on the screen I have an image which says to put the battery in, and holding the keys has as only result to reboot the phone showing the image... I guess there's no hope right?
Edit2: I entered download mode using the g2 method, now I have to downoad the kdz rom and the lg flash tool to unbrick, right? But where I can download it since the lg site for the firmware is apparently down?

Ok guys, I was able to unbrick entering in emergency mode e doing the flash tool stuff. The strange thing is that when I start the flash tool putting the file kdz and going forward in the next window, when I click on read phone info the program stops working, if I click directly on stuff then the lg mobile support tool is opened. Now when it starts to write on the phone, the tool says that an error occurred (something like "the server is offline) but on the phone it says the port com and start to download the rom. If I say ok to the error of the lg mobile support tool it stops the firmware update and stops the program, if I don't click ok the firmware update end is work unbricking the phone.
Now I noticed that with the stock rom from the version v10h until the last one towelroot is not working, so I downloaded the v10g germany version (since the italy version was offline) and flashed with the same procedure as I have done with the unbrick, so I could run towelroot and flash the twrp and the cyanogenmod11. Thank you so much for your time!!
The topic is quite old, but I've just solved that problem. You should just do it:
1) hold power and vol down till you see LG logo -- immediately release these buttons and
2) immediately hold power and vol up button to enter into factory reset menu.
Then click "yes" and next "yes", too.
That's all.
My Samsung is Stuck on the splash screen and does not move!
Ive tried downloading a stock 5.1.1 rom to flash but whenever i extract it i get a .cpgz file instead of a .tar.mp5 file.
What is going on and how can i fix my phone! P.S I only have access to Jodin3 Casual as i only have a Mac computer.
go to samsung-updates.com and search for your model...download it and flash it....but first, you can boot into recovery and do a factory reset. press volume down and power, when the screen goes off...quickly press volume up,home buttom and power to boot into recovery.

look on samfirm. download stock firmware for your device model. this will be an MD5 file. enter download mode (vol down, home and power button )flash it with odin.
if this doesn't work try to do emergency software upgrade via smart switch.
1st option should work but you need odin 3.10. a windows pc will be best.
Hi all,
First time poster and honestly, a complete noob re: rooting. I tried once before with a BLU device I had, but had driver issues and just gave up.
Anyway, looking to remove a bunch of bloat from my Tab E that I barely use....... just fired it up today for the first time in months and saw an update to 7.1.1
All of my Google searching links me to this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/recovery-official-twrp-gteslte-galaxy-t3419219
My concerns/problems are ....
1. Do I just pick the latest '.tar' file?
2. At no point does the guide actually say when to connect the device to the computer
3. I should be able to maintain my LTE connection after rooting, I assume?
4. I can't seem to get into "download mode", I got into "safe mode" somehow by mistake, but when following the suggestions here:
http://techbeasts.com/how-to-boot-samsung-galaxy-devices-in-download-recovery-mode/
To access "download mode", I get some life.... followed by an increasingly green circle. Get's to 66% with a flashing white circle, and then nothing happens.
5. Even if I could get into "download mode", it says to Hold [Volume Up] + [Home] buttons near the end of the flash, and keep holding them until you are in recovery. but Odin doesn't appear to be overly user-friendly as far as knowing when the end of the flash would be? Haven't got that far though, so mere speculation on my part.
I'm really lost at this point.... can anybody give me any pointers?
****EDIT*** So, I went ahead and tried again - turns out I was able to get it all done...... problem was the instructions didn't quite relate the my Tab E? Power+Vol Down+Home was needed to get into download mode, and Power+VolUp+Home was needed for Recovery.
Funny though, after confirming TWRP and following the reboot promps, device still didn't appear to be rooted. Tried again and "Root Checker" says it's not..... but NOBloat is not prompting me I'm not rooted, when previously it stated the device wasn't rooted? AND, I have SuperSU installed?
Easily done if you follow the rooting guide for the 6.0.1 ... anyway, here's how.
Download Odin (version 10.12.x) and then download TWRP into the same folder:
https://dl.twrp.me/gteslte/twrp-3.2.0-0-gteslte.img.tar.html
Now donwload Super User: https://download.chainfire.eu/1220/SuperSU/SR5-SuperSU-v2.82-SR5-20171001224502.zip?retrieve_file=1
Run Odin (preferred in Admin mode) and load : twrp-3.2.0-0-gteslte.img.tar into the AP.
Put your Tablet into Download mode (Vol Down + Home + Power and then Vol Up), connect to your PC and Hit Start on Odin.
Wait for it to fully reboot and Power it Off, now reboot into Recovery mode (Vol Up + Home + Power), once in TWRP, copy Super User file into the Download folder of your Tablet, select Install from TWRP and install Super User. Reboot and enjoy Root
Using updated Odin (3.13.1) to root Tab E SM-T377W
As this post is somewhat dated, would the most recent Odin version (3.13.1) be appropriate?
I have the same Tab E (SM-T377W) running 7.1.1.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Root is possible. On firmware version: T377WVLU2BQI6, I just flashed this
TWRP-3.2.3-0-gteslte.img.tar (PM if you need a link. I uploaded it on my drive)
Then flashed magisk through TWRP yesterday.
Couple of notes though. Once you fllash TWRP with Odin, even with auto reboot ticked off, the device WILL STILL reboot. Once this happens, if you're not holding pwr, vol+, & home buttons, the custom recovery will be replaced back to stock. And as always, ensure drivers installed and debugging and OEM unlock is on.

Usually when I flash, I found it's best to use which version of Odin was released at the time the device was. For instance, if I wanted to flash an S7, I'd probably use Odin 3.10. This is only AFTER I've tried my go to Odin version - Prince Comsey. I find it works 90% of the time though. This of course excludes any devices running stock Oreo or Pie. Where it's mandatory to have the latest version of Odin.

Which firmware version do you have on the tablet?? Like, is there a 3 or 2 prior to the B?? I think it's the forth from the end
For example: T377WVLU '2' BQI6 or do you have the 3rd Bootloader?

Firmware SM-T377W T377WVLU3BRG4 [7.1.1]
halp
I've been trying to use this thread and several others as a guide to root my galaxy tab E version sm-t377wVLU3BRG4 running android 7.1.1. I've been trying to root the tablet for 3 days including one click rooting applications both on and off pc.
I can't even get TWRP installed, I've tried using odin to flash it but when it reboots and I'm supposed hold volume up and home to boot into recovery mode it just keeps booting. I don't understand if I'm doing something wrong. Also half the guides I've read have had most of the files removed so I've just googled another guide
@Helium Iz Ninja
Probably your attempt flashing TWRP miserably failed for whatever reason.
BTW: How to install TWRP using ODIN is explained here.
If you have phone's Stock ROM at your fingertips, then re-flash this to bring back phone to its original state.
