Last night I tried to use the Gear Fit for the very reason I bought it... to track my heart rate and calories burned during exercise. This is where I found my first real frustration with the device. I don't run or cycle. I do walk and hike on occasion but not really for exercise, just for fun.
When I exercise I do cardio in my house. I have tried and tried to see if there is a way to track this on the fit, either with just choosing another exercise or by adding a custom exercise. Problem is, if you choose one of the preset choices, it will not track what you are doing (even through it tracks heart rate). It will tell you that you have gone 0 distance and burned 0 calories. I just happened to be wearing my Polar also, so at least I got my readings from that, but I would love to move to using the fit only.
Has anyone found a way to track cardio? If not, this has to be a major oversight on samsung's part. I can't be the only person that wants to track exercise this way.
I'm afraid the GF was designed to be paired to a phone. It acts as a remote for data and control.
I've been using sports trackers for a few years. Try Endomondo, it works seamlessly with your gear fit.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.endomondo.android
endomondo.com
It also supports bluetooth (polar) and Ant+ Heart Rate Monitors.
You can set the Gear fit to record your steps (pedometer) or walking/HR (Exercise>Walking) which it will record but you have a limited history detail and capacity. This needs to sync with Samsung S Health. I have removed S Health from my samsung phone as it is the worst piece of software I have come across.
Good luck
Thanks for the reply. I guess I forgot to mention that I have it paired with a Note 3. I'm just asking about tracking cardio only (HR & calories burned) without trying to choose another exercise and trying to make it work (it doesn't)
Hi
I had this same problem, if you go into the s health app on your mobile, go into more on the top right of your screen, then choose manage items from the list it will show all the trackers that you use, switch on the sports one & this will track your aerobic excercise, although it works through the wrist band you have to activate it from your mobile each time. Hopefully Samsung will get it added to the gear fit if we complain enough lol. Hope that was helpful.
@janet22 how do you get the gear fit to track sport once you've started the activity on the phone in s health?
u can either chose a different sport or sync it with s health
Hi, I have been using my stratos for a week now, and noticed it doesnt count stairs well and doesnt count me using a stroller when i take my kid to day care - its consistently failing on both these two scenarios but otherwise works well with step counting, running, and i was able to track my 1 pool session well so far.
Anyone else noticed these issues?
thanks.
I am interested in this topic as well. I was considering Stratos but saw a good offer on Garmin Vivoactive 3. Now I saw that the Vivoactive is counting only a few steps whlie using a stroller. To make things worse it is recalculating VO2max and resetting the step goal considering this wrong steps from stroller pushing. The yearks at Garmin do not allow to manually add or edit step count because steps are used in leaderboards. Now I am considering returning it and buying a Stratos. Just as sports watch not as an activity tracker.

Hi Sagivha
When walking with a stroller you have both hands maneuvering it.
It's the same when using the treadmill, I always let my hand swing when standing on it otherwise the steps are not counted well.
About taking stairs, I have the same problem and already pointed this out for several times.
Now and then there are one or two counts of taking stairs. I wonder if there a threshold as it is bij walking.
Counting steps takes place after 10 steps to avoid false readings.

I'm sorry rant ahead. But I've had enough.
I bought the Stratos, because I didn't really like my Mi Band 3 (constant connection problems and almost invisible screen in daylight). I wanted to buy the Bip, but I said, what the hell. Let's go big. Stratos also looks good (Bip does not). The transreflective always on display is also great. But here the good things end.
1. The watch is slooow. Sometimes it doesn't register a touch, and sometimes it registers a ghost touch. The menus are bad, the layout is bad, the navigation is bad (and slow). The watch is also way too thick.
2. The Amazfit app is abysmal. Once the acitivity is recorded, it cannot be edited in any way. Did you press "walking" when you started running by mistake (It can easily happen - see above)? Too bad. You cannot correct it. Amazfit can draw pretty GPS pictures and graphs, but that's about it. And it's so buggy, it's more or less unusable (see below). There is no internet page, like literally every other app has (Strava, Endomondo, Runkeeper), where you could edit the data. There is no homepage. There are no official help forums.
So, even if the watch and app were completely bug free, the whole package would still be, in best case, average. But they are not bug free. And that is an understatement of the century. I've seen buggy apps and gadgets before, but this one takes the cake.
3. When I got the watch, the battery life was a real rollercoaster. The watch could go form 100% to 0 in a few hours or in 5 days. Sometimes reboot or factory reset helped. And that is true for the watch as a whole. Three to four factory resets in a months is (was - it doesn't work anymore -see below) almost necessary for Stratos to work "normally".
4. Caller name on the watch started working with Amazfit app 3. It never worked before. So, this basic (and advertised) functionality started working almost a year after the watch was released.
5. So, you start to run/bicycle/whatever. You choose the appropriate workout, you wait for the GPS, you start, and.... nothing. You are riding a bicycle and the watch says your speed iz zero.
6. You are running, and suddenly you pace starts to drop like a stone. So, I run little below 5.00 min/km. Yesterday I was running, and suddenly I was at 11.00 min/km. Not in reality, just on the Stratos. I always run 6 km, but Stratos measured 4 km. A day before 5 km. I actually ran 6 km, as I know the way. Thank god for Strava, because when I got home and the Strava synced, the running length(and pace) was correct. But only in Strava. Amazfit app and the watch itself got the data wrong. No, I don't know, how that is possible.
7. So, I was bicycling downhill. Suddenly, my hearbeat goes to 160. 170. 180. Am I dying? I feel the chest. Everything is normal. The watch is just acting up again. A few days after that, I was bicycling uphill, usually my heartrate is somewhere around 130-140. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, my heartrate drops. 60. 50. 40. And I am paddling uphill in 35 degrees C! Am I Lance Armstrong? No, It's just the watch.
8. A few days ago heartrate and steps stopped syncing with the app. The watch is at 6000 steps and Continuous HR is on (and seems to work on the watch), but the app is at 0 steps and "no heart rate data. Syncing doesn't help. Rebooting the watch doesn't help. Factory reset doesn't help. Restarting the phone, reinstalling the watch, creating a new account doesn't help.
Let's end this. I paid 160 EUR for this POS. After many months on the market, even the basic functionality of the watch does not work. What does work now, might not work tomorrow, and what works, works badly.
Why are things like this? It's the age old truth: when you buy the product, you don't just buy plastic, steel and glass, you buy a service. You buy programmers, that will get your product running long after you bought it. And that's why Amazfit products just seem cheap. Because you just bought the plastic. Nothing else.
You got a broken watch, claim warranty.
I would also add there might be a problem with your smartphone bluetooth as well. I used Mi Band 1, 2, 3 and now 4. I also had 2 smartwatches and now Stratos. I also changed 2 smartphones and I never ever had connection problems with Mi Band on any version of it. Mi Band for me is by far the most stable bluetooth connection I've ever used on any bluetooth device and I have over dozen various bluetooth devices. Stable connection, along with battery life is why I'm still loyal to Mi Band. I had various situations where I couldn't connect to plain bluetooth speaker, or sometimes even Stratos disconnects and in each case Mi Band connection is the only one that would still be stable. But that is just my personal experience as it's impossible to account for all the different hardware out there.
Agree with you. I have an Verge, which is, till the moment, a money waste.
Software is the problem, let's see if Xiaomi do something.

No, it's Huami's.
Thank you all for replies!
I don't think the watch is broken (in a sense, that warranty should be claimed) and I'll tell you why.
I may have been a little misunderstood in my first post (English is not my first language). The watch doesn't act up all the time. But frequently enough, that it cannot be relied upon. I don't need a watch that works 70 % of the time (which this one does). So, let me add a few things to my points in my previous post:
5. That happened twice (see number 5 in my first post). Rebooting the watch helped. And let me stress again, that it would happen a lot more often, if I didn't reboot or factory reset the watch every time it starts to act up (3-4 times per month).
6. If that was a hardware error (se number 6 in my first post), GPS data would be wrong (this happened only during my last two runs!). But the GPS data that the watch recorded during the run was correct. If it wasn't, Strava would be wrong, too. Activity (run) was measured (interpreted?) incorrectly by the watch and Amazfit app. Strava got the same (raw?) data and it gave correct results (kilometers, pace). If the watch was faulty, the GPS data would be faulty, too. But the hardware, it seems, is fine. Just the software is bad.
7. HR monitoring is just bad on this watch. I don't think I'm the only one that noticed that.
8. Steps and HR data syncing with the app currently works. It started to work the next day. But I noticed something strange. When syncing wasn't working, the Amazfit app said for steps and HR "08/17 19:52" (something like that, I don't remember the exact time). But it was only 11 o'clock! So, the app was claiming, that the last sync with the watch was in the future. Probably that's why it wasn't syncing. And that is not a harware error, it's the software.
So, I don't think the watch is faulty, it's just the software that's bad. That was my point all along. Right now, the watch is working fine. It was working fine yesterday and the day before that, when I was bicycling. But that is not enough. I want a watch that works all the time.
Amazfit stratos 3.0: poor watch
The watch is unreliable, sunset and sunrize notifications come and go without reason. Very disappointing.
You could use my app for sunrise and sunset times.

A lot of reviews but all seems to be biased favoring buy. None of them are speaking about any issues or problems. Is the watch that really good?
2 weeks i have GTR2.Battery 14 days, normal use. Updated, playing music from the watch, speaking with the watch and Swimming. Really good stuff for a 170 usd. Change strap for metal bracelet. Looks amazing!

How do you transfer mp3 files to the watch. Mine keeps failing
Used since 2 days and steps counter seem totally wrong in daily tracking. Before go to sleep my Fitbit One has 1300 steps and GTR2 310 steps. Fitbit One is always right steps count because it is in the pocket and count only when the leg move. In exercice mode GTR2 has right steps. It is like GTR2 start to count steps anly after 40 (or more) continuous steps
At this time Fitbit One 6136 steps vs GTR2 3302 steps, totally wrong and unusable
GTR Watchfaces from "Notify for Amazfit" do not load, Fail each time.
the steps counting is better, if you do perform a reset on the GTR2/GTS2.. (after the last fw update)
watchfaces from 1st generation do not work on GTS2/GTR2 !!!
and there are no custom watchfaces yet, seems to be the apps for modding are still missing.
battery life of my GTS2 is about 9-10 days ... my GTS1 got 19-24 days

Tried factory reset, nothing changed. After 40min in my kitchen, my Fitbit One count 306 steps (and with the One it count only when the leg move) and the GTR2 counted 62 steps. So still totally unusable as daily tracker.
Really incredible that Amazfit can stay with a new (recent) watch wich can not do the basic with counting right steps ???? I can use my GTR Lite and the steps are correct, no much difference with my Fitbit One.
yeah it is a bit annoying, the GTS1 was so much better.
I dont know what they did @amazfit.... it seems to be the GTR2 / GTS2 are beta
devices for maybe the mini-Version that will be released soon

The algorithm for steps counting is trying to measure actual walking steps not just random movements which is why it's best checked in a walking activity. I got my GTR 2 a couple of weeks ago and so far I'm happy with the step counter.

That's weird, maybe you have a faulty one. I have GTR 2 and my wife GTS 2 and step counting is good on both (around 1200 steps per kilometer during activity) and even around the house it accumulates as expected. Try to feedback to Huami in Zepp app and see what they say.
Great Watch but very limited watchfaces. GTR watch faces do not work.

Firmware update for GTR2 yesterday
In change log :
- setup for wrist watch
- optimize accuracy of steps counting
at this time :
- Fitbit One : 3767 steps
- GTR2 : 3897
so no faulty unit, just faulty Amazfit developers

Well I have a gts 2 and I've been a bit disappointed with it so far. No Alexa connection (to follow so amazfit have told me) and the on board voice control is only part working.
I can start playing a song via voice command but cannot then say play next song or pause playing.
Contacted amazfit about the problem and they said oh yeah we know about that and we're working on it!!
Ever get the feeling that you bought something a bit too soon
Hi all,
I'm having problems with the heart rate monitor, while I'm resting it's more or les accurate, but when I'm doing some exercise it's useless, having a differences somtimes up to 50 bpm lower than the real heart rate, I tried a factory reset but is still the same.
Does any of you have a similar problem? I have just sent a feedback on the app, let's see
It's a great watch but I'm thinking on returning it...
Does anybody get voice reminders when doing a run for example? There's a setting during the run for voice volume, and I have it set to maximum, but there's no voice to say 1 mile and the time etc. Is my unit faulty? Music works OK.
Maybe it works only with earphones, try it.

The watch has speakers so it shouldn't be necessary to have headphones connected. Music plays nicely through the watch speaker.
Hi there! I'm pretty sure there's no fix for this, but I want to give it a try.
I used to pool swim with my Amazfit GTS and it recorded quite well the activity.
It's now some time that the swimming pool measurements are totally wrong. Like half of the distance, but not even precise.
I tried:
- change multiple times the pool distance parameter
- reset, restart the watch
- calibrate the compass
- try a previous stock firmware, then rollback to the last one
No changes... Any further ideas?
Thanks!

Hi jumpertrekker, I came across your question because I have the same problem. I've been using my Amazfit GTS as a swimming counter for 3 months. Despite during the first 2 months it worked well, in the last one the counter kept counting less than half of the distance. I was wondering if you had found out something about how to fix this issue.
Thanks!!
Same here. After over a year with a GTS well functioning, actually my watch shows about half the strokes, and half the distance (of course half the laps too).
Actually I know it's not a matter of lane length. The very strange thing is happened 5 minutes ago, I'm looking for a solution, and I try to "swim" in my bedroom (moving arms in the air) and it shows the RIGHT LENGTH (for me is 34 strokes = 25 meters) without the need of "hit" the border. I try three sets of 34 strokes each, the first I "hit the border", other I don't (simply I stop "swimming in the air"), but the watch counted regular three "laps".Does it make any sense?
I'll try this afetrnoon in the pool water...
EDIT: After some tests:
1) No matter if you hit the pool's border. It doesn't count the lap
2) In the water the counting of the strokes is wrong, this affects the meters and then the numbers of laps
3) Swimming with a MI band 3 on the right and the Amazfit on the left. Mi Band counted right, Amazfit counted half strokes (and half meters, and half laps)
