Hi, I have a orange network locked xperia ray st18i locked bootloader. I downloaded pc companion and did a software update and all went well. The phone booted up fine after the update until I shut it down and since then I have been unable to get passed the SE screen. It just hangs there. I am able to enter flash mode by pressing the down button and plugging the usb in. Tried phone repair option and still no jog.
Today I tried to unlock the bootloader using the pin touching menthod but that didnt work either. Said something like fatal error....
I need to unlock the bootloader to try a alternative rom to see if that works or revert back to the stock orange rom it came with but im cannot find this anywhere. I am a learner so any advice would be helpful. CAn anyone suggest a rom for the ray that can be installed using flash method WITHOUT unlocked bootloader? I am a **** for doing the uprgrade via sony website but I didnt think this would happen. should have left it as it was.
Thanks for reading.
Take your battery out and try reflashing again using SEUS.
Thread moved to Xperia Ray Q&A.
Yes I have tried that many times already and it finishes the update correctly but still hangs on the SE logo when turned on. I tried again just to see if anything has changed. When I connected the phone whilst pressing the down vol button it recognised it and said your phone already has the latest software but I re installed anyway. No change in result though.
Sony have asked to send the phone to repair and they will reply with a quote for fixing it. Has anyone used this service before and how much can i expect to pay for a software install? Repair office is in Ashford, kent.
thanks
Read my guide and try flashing a stock ftf file, if that fails theres a few other things you could try.

It's not as hard as you may think
Use this to create the ftf, it's step by step. If you can't/don't want to do it I can't help you because I have no orange firmware

HAD YOU READ THE FIRST PART OF MY GUIDE YOU WOULD ALREADY KNOW. Had you even read the stickys in the General section you would have found one.
Right so I created the .ftf file from the three update files. Ive downloaded x10 flash tool. I connect the phone and flashtools registers that a phone is connected then start the flash but soon after the phone just gets disconnected.
any idea's?

Download the latest flashtool (I guess it's 0.9.x) and install it. Go to the drivers folder and install all the drivers for all the phones and modes. Now you launch flashtool, but don't connect the phone! Click on the flash -> flashmode -> select the ftf and don't exclude anything (you have the ability on the right site).
Now click OK and the screen to connect the phone in flashmode appears. Shut down the phone, wait 20 seconds, hold volume down and while holding volume down connect the phone to PC.
Wait until the flashing process has finished and hope it'll start!

Thanks for guiding me and yes it finally flashed BUT the phone still hangs on the SE logo when booted up. I read somewhere on here another member had the same issue and it turned out to be the bandwidth???
What should I try now?
I bought the phone over the mexican equivalent of ebay, it came with 4.0.2.A.0.58 firmware which is android 2.4.3, once i connected to wifi the phone prompted me with an OTA update to 4.0.2.A.0.62, i accepted it and when it finished the download and rebooted it never came on, i tried removing the battery, holding the button for a long time but nothing worked, after some reading i downloaded the SEUS tool, it detected the phone fine and downloaded a 230mb file which i assume was the latest FW, it said that the installation was sucessful and that i should turn on my phone, again it didn't turn on, it vibrates but the screen never comes on, after giving up on SEUS i read about flashtools, i downloaded the previous firmware that i had which was 4.0.2.A.0.58, the one that was working fine before the OTA, file name is
SK17i_4.0.2.A.0.58_GLOBAL.tft
I start flashtools and select the firmware, phone is detected fine but the flashing gets stuck at
Processing system.sin
Checking Header
Flashing data
i left it running for 30 mins and it didn't move from there, the person that sold it to me says the phone is new and says that it is my fault that the phone doesn't work anymore because according to him he asked in an email not to update the phone or the warranty was void with him, i live in mexico so there's not a sony center i can go for help, i really want to fix the phone, was pretty excited about getting it and now it wont turn on
what can i do next?

Well there must be a problem with the phone already.
Or else why would the seller say "not to upgrade"?
Flashtool was the only option that i would have recommended.
But you say it didnt work.
Are you sure you put the phone in flash mode?
---------- Post added at 09:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:21 AM ----------
And by the way, it takes time for the phone to turn on after an update.
Leave it for a while and see if it opens or not.

Have you asked the person from whom you bought the phone whether the bootloader of the phone is locked or unlocked?
I ask this because the people with unlocked bootloader are advised not to accept ota updates as it will brick their devices.

6. Turning the "brick" into a smartphone
If you had unlocked bootloader and did OTA(Over the Air) update, then you probably ended up with a dead phone, aka brick. Don't worry, it is not completely bricked, still can be saved!
Download UnbrickingXperia2011.zip file from this post below.
Unpack the .zip file and place the .ftf file in Flashtool\firmwares folder.
Open Flashtool.
Get your phone to flashmode, make sure it is turned off, press down Volume DOWN button and connect USB cable.
In Flashtool, click the lightning button, pick Flashmode and choose the Xperia_2011_FreeXperia_ALL.ftf file.
Let Flashtool finish.
Install stock firmware and kernel to your phone.
Remove USB cable from your phone and start your phone.
Try not to brick it again, less problems for you.

most likely just the April security update
US Generic has update too.
I tried to flash the new firmware using flashtool. It gave errors and now the phone has been softbricked. I don't know what happened. Flashtool doesn't recognises the phone now and asks to install drivers for the device. I installed the drivers from sony's website but the issue persists.
Please help.

You need to press the "Vol -" on your phone before plugging it on the USB. Make sure you DIDN'T update the Flashtool to last version. You have to use the version 0.9.19.8 and before you flash, select the buffer size to 128K. I bricked my phone once and I could recover it.
I hope this revives your phone. Good luck!

Mine is rooted and update via OTA fail. Tried PC companion and updated successfully. As expected, root lost. Android security update is for Feb only. Cant tell any difference from the previous firmware.. softkey doesnt change either, annoying flicker is still there before playing a video if u had adjusted the colour manually .. Not sure if its a worthy "update".... going to try root again via kingroot.

I had to take it to sony service center, they didn't asked me many questions. I told them I was trying to update it using pc companion and it just went dead. They fixed the phone in 5 days and returned it. The funny thing is that I had unlocked its bootloader a long time ago so it should've been out of warranty, also, the IMEI numbers have changed and the drm keys and functions have been restored. The firmware that you tried to install, is that your "native"?! Is it for XQ-BC62? If yes then why are you trying to update with flashing instead of normal update or xperia companion?!
Also is it for the same country/region as the original? I had the same error when by mistake I downloaded a UK version instead of EEA.

99% of all failures I have had when using Newflasher have been caused from poor USB connection. I now have a very specific USB cable that I only use when flashing files to Sony devices. I also close nearly all background programs and disconnect any non essential USB devices.
If you all use newlfasher type all N when it ask for Y or N except for keep userdata thats an Y, thats it, never had an issue with Newflasher on my Xperia 1 iii.

My Xperia 1 iii have same issue, also it keep showing "Your device is corrupt it cant be trusted and will not boot Your device will be powered off in 5 second"
I've tried all method to put it to recovery mode but failed.
Any one could help?
For my XQ-BC62, I ended up getting the device is corrupt issue after flashing the rom via fastboot instead of via fastbootd. (it's confusing bc you have to use fastboot to unlock the bootloader, not fastbootd). To fix it, Xperia companion software told me to use Emma, so I downloaded that and was able to restore stock firmware to the device.
Hi all, I recently received a replacement 1 III from Sony/sbe and this phone is unable to use its built in updater or use the Xperia companion upgrade or software repair. It does flash via newflasher so fortunately I was able to update it but it still will not repair. Sony wants it back to fix it but I'd rather not send it off because it took them >6 weeks to ship me a replacement the first time. Attached is the error message that pops up on Xperia companion shortly after it reboots into flash mode. Any suggestions?
Use xperifirm and update with newflasher.

Just double checked and the bootloader is still locked. I got this phone fresh from Sony after a warranty replacement.
Be very careful. SBE left the phone bootlooping and it has disabled itself. Their next step is that they will claim your warranty is completely voided because you altered the firmware.
It's not only incorrect, but illegal. It's a mess to escalate and resolve.

It's not bootlooping, I'm typing on it right now. The issue is it won't update on its own and that the companion app is useless. SBE definitely broke something when they "tested" it before sending it to me.
Sony has agreed to fix it for me but also pulled the it's out of warranty card because my original purchase was from eBay, even though it was brand new in a sealed box.
I don't want to send it off for something this simple, I just got it back after SBE took 6 weeks to send me this one. If it just needs a flash I can handle that in short order, I just need to know where to look.
After the fiasco this has been this might be my first and last Sony phone.
I actually have the same problem with my 1 III softbank edition. Unable to use its built in updater or the Xperia companion upgrade. Struggle with newflasher everytime and always lost all my data after update by newflasher... Any solution yet?
I had my Xperia 1iii repaired recently (only took half a week), got the whole motherboard replaced due to a faulty camera and noticed my Wife's Xperia 5iii had the Android 13 update today, but unfortunately my device hasn't come up with one yet. Update status says "Your device already has the latest available system update" but there is definitely an Android 13 for the XQ-BC52 model. Tried Sony Companion PC and even that says software is up to date! Before my device needed the repair, both Xperia 1iii and 5iii phones get the updates rolling at the same time. Very strange issue!

Tried Sony Companion PC and even that says software is up to date! Before my device needed the repair, both Xperia 1iii and 5iii phones get the updates rolling at the same time. Very strange issue!

Use xperifirm and download the latest A13 and flash it with newflasher and you are good to go. Why so hard if you can keep it simple mate.
Thanks! I guess that's going to be my only option from now on! Whoever repaired it probably used xperifirm and newflasher themselves for quickness with the latest A12, so it wasn't the native stock ROM!

I do the same and my phone got bootloops like previous times, even I follow all the guides in our forum. Now I need to repair and clear all of my data again... So I think the built-in update function is more simple than use newflasher, it's just it didn't working...
I have the exact same problem and sony wants the device back. It took them over two months to repair the device when the fingerprint reader and microphone were not functional and now they want it back. I have a good feeling they're just gonna update it and not fix the problem. If I were to guess... They told they replaced the motherboard and because of that the motherboard probably no serial number on it and thats why it has trouble with OTA updates and the recovery.

My oppo x3 pro (out of warranty lol) 2.4 Google rating. My battery faulty . They state my phone wasn't in warranty falsely . Then it misuse then show pictures of a physically damaged phone( I took pictures lol) mine was immaculate! then state it the usb ribbon cable , then state parts coming from China & then it's oppo fault. When the parts are freely available (genuine & authorised) I rather my grandchildren done the repair
