I have problem about my Tytn (Hermes 200) that a connector (for a screen flex cable) on my motherboard is damaged. Is it possible to fix it -for example to change that connector with a new one (because I have another Tytn with usb port broken but that connector is ok)? Does anyone know how to do so? I really need help...

Motherboard - start serching on ebay or othet web-auction.
If you want to rapier it just send it to service, if you asking probably you don`t have skills to do it.

I once asked about a similar port on the back of my old VN250 dumbphone over on the SparkFun IRC channel at freenode, I recall them mentioning something about it being there so manufacturers could easily write an image to a large number of devices. Is that true? If so/not could this be used to facilitate hacking the device?
I might be able to hack up a connector if I knew what kind of jack that was.

I am almost certain that this is a "u.fl" interface. If you look on a Wireless NIC you will see the same connector. This connector is for a wireless antenna. You could try connecting an antenna to It. I have one and will tell you the results.
Its for connecting an external antenna, many phones have this somewhere but its usually hard to find and easy to damage if you mess around with it.

My 12yo son flashed an uncompatible image onto his SG-SII GT-i9100, which quite effectively turned it into a brick. It responds to none of the startup keycombos.
It is utterly unimpressed with the 301Kohm USB jig, that I learned about in another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746879 - Thanks a lot for the great information!).
It doesn't even show that a charger is connected (however I can measure a charging voltage, and the battery does get charged).
From what I've gathered, jtag-flashing is my only option. A riff box is a really nice and userfriendly device, that could help me just fine, but it's about 200 bucks, and I'm (hopefully) going to use it only once.
But I DO have a ($30) Bus Pirate (http://dangerousprototypes.com/docs/Bus_Pirate) lying around in my lab and some nice electronic tools (stereo microscope, cool soldering stations, etc.), so I am game to do some serious hacking and upon success, even documenting/sharing my adventure here.
I am a seasoned software developer and I do smaller electronics projects as a hobby.

- Since I am not a ninja in this area, I would like some pointers to where I can find a binary worthy of jtag flashing onto the device (I am guessing that I can use the stock kernel (fx. using the tool suggested here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110160)
- I know quite little of jtag. Is there anywhere I can read about the binary padding/enveloping of the binary image I need to flash? Just a pointer would be really nice.
- Have anyone else done something similar? How did you go about it? Where can I learn how you did?

Im in the same board as you, hard bricked/dead I9100, JTAG is my only option... Looking for information about this as well...
Look here, Google search, these guys & ask local mobile repair shops (you might find someone who does JTAG's close to you).
Unless you know what you're doing, forking out for the equipment to do it yourself will more than likely end with you being the owner of a 116 gram plastic paperweight (the phone) and a several hundred dollar box you'll never use again (the RIFF box). Do the smart thing & pay someone else a fraction of the cost to do it for you with their gear.

i got a buspirate too 3.5b and it helped me unbrick many devices and i got myself a smd work station and exactly well almost exact setup.and my knowledge is limited in electronics. my friend comes over to my place to do the work, smd and all other stuffs. did you unbrick it with a buspirate? or you use other tools.
time to ressurect this thread.

Hi all, after a couple of tinkering, I'm in need of the following parts for my KGL4 head unit:
KGL-7202RN KB-V00.2013-12-24 (SD slot with AUX)
KGL-7202 RN KB-V00.2013-12-24 (GPS slot)

I've tried contacting my seller but was advised I have to contact KGL directly for these parts. I tried contacting them over at their Ali**** account but have yet to get a response. With a lot of people modding their units here, does anyone have a reliable contact to purchase replacement parts from? I'm hoping this thread can be a reference point to others who are modding their units to help them get the contacts easily when they (hopefully not) make a mistake in modding their units as I did. That way the risks wouldn't be as much when modding as parts can be easily had as compared to how it is now.

Recently a stupid idea crossed my mind and I want it to stop, so I decided to ask the experts. The idea is:
Is there any way to write a kernel unit to use the front camera connector as a connector for a modified second screen in nexus 5?
Explaining better. Is it possible to create some kind of adapter for the input of a new Nexus 5 screen to make the connector compatible with the front camera's internal connector, making it a communication channel? And later write a kernel drive to communicate with the screen? This way the nexus would have 2 screens.
