With quite few exclusive features and a slew of upgraded abilities, which feature are y'all the most excited about?
Richard Yu spoke briefly about it having the best reception of any phone out there during the unveiling, and as I work in a very large brick building, I am excited to see if I get better LTE speed at work.
In display fingerprint scanner for me, I know there are other chinese manufacturers that implemented this solution before but they weren't anywhere close to a true flagships
this is so damn cool! https://www.instagram.com/p/BpDiJ56BR00/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=bd03ou1tc2y4
Hey guys, for me the 3d scan feature is the absolutely best feature of the last few years. I was waiting years for it. Can't wait to get my device to play around. Is anyone able to test if 3d obj export is possible out of the box?
Have a look to what I'm talking about "Huawei Mate 20 pro 3D scanning"
https://youtu.be/Lo61GM_2BpY
It would be cool if someone could post some 3d scanned objects to have a look if it is worth to 3d print such files
Thx in advance!

I really hope this feature works well and doesn't leave you disappointed.
From what I've heard the animoji rip off sucked on P20 pro but I hope it also improves with the 3d scanning on mate 20 pro.
A lot of reviewers seem to be extremely excited because of the reverse wireless charging gimmick (or they have been paid to highlight it?) but for example in 30 minutes it only charges 3% of an iPhone and consumes 10% of the 20 Pro (so 11 hours to charge 33% the iPhone and discharging 20 pro from 100% to dead?) , this of course is expected if you know how wireless charging work but a lot were making it seem as if it was very fast and efficient.

I read on an article somewhere phones will not ship with this feature enabled and it will come with an update in November.
If this application would work with the Sensor it would be an alternative to the original.

Be so nice and tell me if it works
Thx in advance!

I am most excited about having a great camera again. Miss my pixel 2XL camera. The S9+ isn't as good as reviews say it is. Blurs faces for some reason.
That and the amazing battery and new processor.

S9+ Camera is meh. The bokeh affect is quite bad compared to the P20 pro I had. And Touchwiz is by far the worst UI IMHO. I prefer even EMUI over it.

Yup, tried to find this feature for 10 minutes. It's not on the phone at the moment.
I already have the phone, and the best feature is the battery.

Ah ... I can't wait to receive mine on Friday / Saturday
I have it. I'm disappointed for now with the battery compared to p20 pro
It was the 3d scanning and the AI video modes that appealed to me (gimmicky though they may be). Sadly neither are present on the phone at the present time! That said having used it for a couple of days now I find the phone really smooth to use, the battery life is good and the camera is excellent so will probably hang onto it and wait for the missing features to be added in by firmware updates.
I'm torn between the Mate 20 Pro and the Mate 20X.
Both have same front camera which appears to be top notch (no pun intended!) and superior performance.
I'm fascinated by the AR capabilities of the Pro. Especially that one can actually make a 3D representation of an object that can be animated and incorporated into a photo or video.
I also really like the large screen on the 20X and that it's performance is optomized for entertainment related use with very good sound reproduction.
Who knows. I might end up getting both or neither if their capabilities were oversold.
So was wondering why would folk prefer one over the other.
Thanks!

If you're really that undecided, I'd suggest to first buy the 20x. I'm guessing that giagantic display will appeal to very few people. It seems nice in theory, but I think it will pretty difficult to manage in practice.
Once you'll realise that the 20x is not for you, you'll return it and get the 20 pro instead and be happy with it.
I wouldn't put as deciding factors the 3d function. It's something you'll use a few times at the beginning and never touch again.
If you really do play that many games on your phone, enough to utilize the cooling of the 20x, I'd suggest to get a Switch and save some cash. But that's just a personal preferance, since I don't get mobile gaming.

Thanks for your suggestion. I am worried about the state of development of the AR features. Could see it being rather buggy. Apparently, the software is not on current release but will appear in update. But I would definately use it as I have an interest in this.
Not sure yet but I would probably be happy with the screen size on Mate 20 X. I bought the First Galaxy Note, and Mi Mix when they came out and many folks initially said they were too big. But I was very hapoy with larger screen. So without trying it I don't know. The other thing is that I don't really want the Mate 20 X for gaming as I do very little of that. I'm more interested in it's sound systen as I Iike to play and record music.
Anyways, right now I'm leaning towards the 20X. But maybe I'm missing something about the Mate 20 Pro that would sway me more towards that.
The only thing the Huawei Mate 20 series has going for it is the X version with the larger screen and battery. If you are only interested in the Pro, you are better off with the Oneplus One 6T which is a far more polished and developed product. You can listen to the hype all you want but in reality there is not that much difference between the two.

That's wierd. I thought the 20X has the same camera as the Pro. For example they both have 40 mega pixel rear camera. Maybe there are other differences?

Never even considered the Oneplus One 6T. I'll have to check it out. Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 seems nice too. I thinks Xiaomi does a nice job with its user interface.
EDIT: OMG! Oneplus 6T live event is today! That's good timing!
The X and P r o have same cameras.

Hi All
I bought a P20 Pro around October last year hoping I could make use of the 40MP camera for my latest hobby, microscope photography.
I really like Open Camera which works really well for the kind of thing I like to do. I've been very active on the Huawei forum at https://uk.community.huawei.com/ but have kind of given up trying to make the P20 Pro work in the way I want.
What I really wanted was 40MP RAW for 3rd Party apps and I've banged on for months now but got absolutely nowhere. During that time, I think I've got a bit of a feel for Huawei as a company.
If you have a suggestion, they say nice things like "hopefully it will be included in a future release". But there is no further feedback about any issue. I get the feel that what they want to do is innovate a new phone every 6 months but do no support.
If you check out the customer service reviews at TrustPilot:
https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.huawei.com
You can see their rating is only 1 star with users saying they left 1 star 'cos you can leave 0 stars!
A few months ago they stopped offering bootloader unlock to "protect us". Well, don't you just love it when someone takes something away from you and tells you it's for your own good? Reminds me of being a child!
Do you know what OS I use on my computer? Well, any one I fancy! It's my hardware!
The above is all a pity because the hardware is excellent, but the software included not much so. For example, jpegs are over sharpened and there's no option to adjust this feature or turn it off.
The phone only allows RAW for it's own stock app. There's no feature in the stock app to save anywhere apart from Internal memory. I want to use the camera software on my LCD monitor, but through HDMI, the stock camera app doesn't rotate, so the image on the LCD is always portrait! I can fix this with Open Camera but there's no support for RAW which I need for heavy post processing.
This all might sound quite negative but I've enjoyed participating in the Forum and the nice administrators sent me a Joby tripod to review (which I kept) and a 10,000mah power bank to say thanks. The forum admins are very nice, but the one thing that does stick in my craw a little bit is to keep being chivvied along saying an update would be soon, but after a few months of hearing the same thing, you know it ain't never going to happen.
If they told me 3 months ago they have no intention of fixing the issues, I would have sold the P20 Pro and got something else, so a bit of a waste of time.
But any road up..... I spotted the Mi9 with a luvverly 48MP camera and started to read the specs and ask questions on this forum. It sounded quite good and I was in Spain last week so I bought one.
I'm still learning, but am astounded that the phone is so cheap and in many ways, better than any Huawei phone, even the P30 Pro particularly with benchmarks. The battery in the P20 Pro is 4000mah and the Mi9 only 3300mah so which is better? Well, according to gsmarena, the Mi9 lasts longer as the Huawei Kirin chipset runs so hot. Maybe the P20 Pro is better if you fancy a fried egg?
But the real game changer for me is, of course the ability to unlock the bootloader and then the availability of ROMs. I'm still learning, but Xiaomi seem to like feedback and are offering weekly dev builds. In the 4 months I've owned the P20 Pro, there have been a couple of security updates and a Pie update, but none of the features anyone has asked for. My latest update was the Feb. 1st security update which I got in March. Now it's almost April...
By contrast, Xiaomi release the source code of their ROMs on day 1 so developers love them! If you check out the activity on the P20 Pro XDA forum, it's much lower than the Mi9.
So as I say, it's all a bit new for me, but I have high hopes of getting a phone that does exactly what I want. Somewhere between the developers and Xiaomi lies the features I'm looking for.
All in all, a good move for me. I'll likely be putting my P20 Pro on eBay soon. Unlocked an rooted lol.
Sorry to drivel on.....
Cheers
Steve
The lack of activity on the P20 forum is more than obvious, nobody at XDA likes Huawei for what they did, and probably never will.
Yes it's a bit of a ghost town!
It did make me think that Huawei simply wanted to clear the developers out of their market but even the hardware support for ordinary users under warranty is appalling with customers being told their phone has water damage (on an IP67 rated phone!) and the customers saying it had never been near water. Phones coming back still broken and on and on.
I think despite their reputation for innovation, the lack of support will kill them in the future.
Well, roll on Wednesday for unlocky flashy flashy!
Keep Smilin'
Steve
Haha, Steve. You seem to be the cheerful one, I hope your happiness and cheerfulness stay with you. Just don't join any telegram groups and you'll be fine.
Yes better than yesterday lol
Why shouldn't I join a telegram group?
Let me start by saying that I am not attacking his character or calling him clueless in general, but he is obviously amateur to when it comes to using Huawei's phones.
I always thought the results he gets from his P30 Pro are way off when compared to the results other reviewers get from their phones, or from the ones I get from my P30 Pro. They're always overly saturated with tons of contrast. And I never understood the reason until I watched his OP 7 Pro vs S10+ vs P30 Pro camera comparison. And as someone who had the S10+ before this phone, and with my wife still owning her S10+, I know that 8/10 times, the S10 will give you the more saturated picture, which isn't the case with Mrwhosetheboss. Then I finally found out why is this the case with his phone, as it turned out that he is using the Smooth Colors option because he thinks, and I believe based on the name of the mode, it generates less saturation while using this mode. He mentioned this twice in his review, so it's obvious he uses this mode all the time, thus why the P30 Pro in this test lost miserably to the S10 and OP 7 Pro, as the P30 Pro pictures were coming out extremely cartoonish with crushed details in the shadows as if you're using a vignette filter all over your pictures.
I believe that while Huawei are taking these so called professional reviewers on cruise trips all over Europe, they also should educate them on how to use their phones so that they won't spread misinformation to the masses without them realizing that they're doing that.
I apologize for the longass rant, and for my average English.

It's a double edged sword. People who purchase a certain phone (usually because they are interested in it) can also often be huge fanboys of a brand/product, saying crap to validate their purchase, ie. "this $800 phone I just purchased is great, otherwise I'd look like a total idiot!"
That and the fact that they usually don't have the option to compare with so many phones since they have to pay for them.
But there are youtubers where you can easily spot the fact that it's a paid review in some way. Money weighs more than integrity for most people.
Of course

The best thing to do before buying any phone, is watch few reviews from the YouTubers you trust, then head to reddit and XDA to read more from those who bought the device and actually used it.
He always gives positive critics on new products and then after some months stop support his opinion because he don't paid any more. Remember this, when mate 30 pro will launch he would say how incredible camera it has(even if it will have same camera as p30 pro)

I doubt he even updated his firmware. Most reviewers didn't hence why their videos are extra reddish.
Ultimately i guess, waiting a month or two for real reviews on xda or reddit would be the best.
But hye, most of us can't wait , get it on day 1 and regret about it later  Im quite happy with my p30 pro since updates are quite frequent and most of the color corrections are fixed.

I agree. The S10+ was the first flagship phone I have ever sold less than one month after owning it, and that was because I knew no matter what Samsung does, their lowlight photography won't improve drastically with software updates.
The P30 Pro was also a bit frustrating when I first got it, but from my experience with the P20 Pro, I knew Huawei was going to address the issues and more, and I am extremely satisfied with all the improvements Huawei has brought with their updates.

Would be fair if you rename or make any corrections to your own thread about TOF sensor. With latest updates it does work and hopefully is going to be improved in the future.

While I love my P30 Pro, I'm not going to be biased towards Huawei and give them a pass on something that is obviously not working, or at least not doing anything they promised us it will.
As you can read from the responses on that thread, the vast majority of those who tested my experiment of covering the tof sensor, are still reporting that either way, they came with the same results whether it's the camera app or the AR Measure app.
I'm on .153, and I tested everything, from portrait shots to aperture mode, to night shots, and also low light scenarios, and still, there is ZERO difference between the pictures I get when the tof is covered or uncovered.

Try covering it when using thining /re shaping during video?
I think this goes for a lot of those 'celebrity reviewers' on Youtube, most of them are clueless and to be honest quite stupid. They simply review the unit to make money, if what they say and do is wrong seems to be of no importance. Personally i never watch those videos anymore, they have become more of a joke than something to take seriously.
/ Magnus
The P30 Pro's camera capabilities have come a long way if you factor in the improvements from .153 (and now .162 supposedly).
If some of these YT can ensure they're running the latest available firmware, it'll definitely help paint a clearer and more accurate picture but I understand this isn't always possible because of the timings of the video.
Coming from .124, I definitely noticed an improvement but not convinced if all these reviewers are also on it.
yes he is..you can see his latest review for op7p vs n10p vs p30p. seems obvious he is doing for the sake of money instead of real passion
My P30 pro has almost the same issue. Brown skin tones are applied to a heavy contrast effect making them look unnatural (not on smooth color)
This to an extent of making me want to sell the damn thing. I'm assuming it has to do with RYYB sensor. My kid ends up looking like decorated chocolate while the other one (who is on the fairer side) always comes out looking far better and natural.
But then again, Samsung sucks at snapping subjects unless they're completely still, which is next to impossible with kids.
My other gripe is not being able to switch to HDR with just a click instead of having to swim my way through the menu.
I'm hoping software fix is around the corner.
So Mr. whosetheboss comparison isn't all that wrong...his skin tone will ALWAYS be oversaturated, and I believe this is to do with the sensor.

Why u two rely only on him? Check more vids linus ranting Huawei all time because he is an a***ole because everything from china is s**t for him..
Best is to test device by self
he isnt boss, he is mrwhosethef*ck
-He Doesnt use Huawei HDR mode.
-He Doesnt know that you can use HDR with the telephoto lens while zooming (this guy really annoyed me with that "better dynamic range in the photo while zooming in the note 10")
-He avoid to point out that P30 pro can use nightmode in all 3 lenses.
-He praise the galaxy and say crap like "personal taste" when talking about the over the top vibrancy colors on the note 10, but tries to throw shade to P30 pro colors even if the photo is better.
-He complains about the 3x portrait in the P30 pro but praise that samsung finally used the 2x in portraits
-He avoid talking about the SuperMacro mode in the P30 pro and once again dont use HDR. (what an awful macro test by the way)
-I dont even think his phone is up to date.
I dont want to rant but i think sometimes i want a review that doesnt look like a advertisement (no matter the brand) this guy and mrwhostheboss , sometimes do some low level reviews and comparisons, they just wanna milk the views the first few days until the next phone comes out.
He has done a lot of work with Samsung so it's not surprising really..
Don't trust the opinion of any Youtube 'reviewer' that constantly gets sent free stuff from the big brands. They are nothing more than paid advertisements. For example, I know for a fact that UnboxTherapy gets paid to attend launch events and is also paid to unbox products on his channel. He attended a launch event for Honor in London a few years back and had his hotel, flights and expenses all paid for and received a suitcase full of devices to give away.
It sounds like the next best thing even if it is not, this is the way to get views ATM the Note 10 is the hot topic for Youtube views even if people don't think that is correct this is how they make money just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I saw his last comparison video with p30 pro and note 10 plus. The p30 pro results in that video was just horrible... HORRIBLE.
And something start to look very fishy here...
That is why for the moment I TRUST mainly 2 YouTubers - MrMobile (Michael Fisher. I follow him since pocketnow) and SomeGadgetGuy (Juan Bagnell - knowing him as well from his time at pocketnow). Michael Fisher is ALWAYS realistic and Juan Bagnell is painfully honest . I'm not doing any advertising here. Just really enjoy watching their reviews.
Leave it man. It's not worth watching reviews. Reviews always make it look like there is a big difference between 2 products. In reality there is not. It's really hard to tell difference in reality. I will be soon unsubscribing to all major youtubers because all are same and the result is always expected nowadays. It's not that they are bad but predictable.

I think most of these 'reviewers' are just shills for the manufacturers. On the grand scale of things I really don't see much difference between the Samsung's and the P30 Pro. Personal preference on screen dpi, camera ability and the fact that the Samsung has 801.11ax at this present moment is hardly a selling point (although he made it sound like it is future proofed and MUST be better). Most people will only have the phone for 2-3 years before upgrading so that is a moot point in 2019. Oh, notice how he didn't mention the 50x zoom ability on the P30P either. Yes it is digital, but hell it's the only phone I know that has that ability!
Honestly, even with all the hoo-haa surrounding Huawei at the moment, I've just got myself the P30 Pro (I'm in the UK). Why?
Because the camera is awesome. Because the screen is awesome (I came from an Honor 9 with IPS LCD!). Because the sound on headphones is amazing! The colour of the phone looks like unicorn puke, but it's 'different'. I have no problem with EMUI (coming from an Honor 9!) Have you watched some HDR footage from Youtube or Netflix yet on your P30P? Just wow! No headphone port but hey, most people use BT headsets now anyway!
Don't get me wrong, it (P30P) is not without it's faults but I'm yet to see a perfect phone for everyone!
As you can see from my phone history below I had a OnePlus One when they were a thing. They weren't the best at the time but they were 'different' (they came with CM installed ffs, until it all went pear shaped. And even then they came out with their own OS called Oxygen which I hear is pretty good! Which on the grand scale of things bodes well for Huawei).
My 2p worth!

I know man. I used to watch a lot of phone reviews and honestly it doesn't matter much now. Every phone is great in some way or other. I had people argue with me online a lot on why p30 pro is not a good phone, even though they never held it in their hands.

I've been watching Michael Fisher forever...since pocket now as well. He is the only one I trust. But even his opinions don't sway what I want. I have to try everything for myself to make a valid opinion.
Opinions should be ALWAYS and ONLY based on personal experience. Reviewers (if they are realistic) should only guide you to certain point...but not creating strong opinion in your mind for products you didn't try yourself.
