Hello. I dropped my lilac Xperia 1 III on the ground and it smacked something pointy and fractured the glass all over. This was with the phone in a case. I contacted Sony's authorized repair agency in the US (SBE), and they quoted me $280 to do the repair. I'm ok paying this but after watching a teardown video on YouTube and having some experience repairing phones in the past, I feel I can do this fix if I can get a new back and adhesive. eBay has the adhesive. They also have some sellers selling backs for the XQ-BC72 and XQ-BC52 models of the phone but not the XQ-BC62. On the phone with SBE they were adamant about them only having parts for the XQ-BC62 model and they stated the backs are different. I'm not sure the accuracy of this but figured I'd check here if anyone has repaired their own. Is there a good spot to buy genuine replacement parts for this phone? If not, I'll send it away to SBE. Thanks in advance!
Just guessing - From pictures, it looks like the backs a bit different between the regional variants. The BC62 has low frequency Band 71 support so it might need different cutouts in the thermal spreader.
The BC62 can't use Band 71 unless it's rooted so maybe another back is fine.

Hi I'm looking for the same part, wonder where to find this in Malaysia
get the part number from that website and search on ebay
well, you could just walk into your local motorola service centre and ask for the kevlar backing and that shiny strip of plastic for the camera, I asked and they said that the kevlar back would be about $25 sgd, they replaced the camera thing for me for free =D
Does anybody have experience either buying a replacement shell for a Lumia series phone from ebay or alternately directly from Nokia?
If a 3rd party replacement how was the quality? Same finish and feel as the original?
Does Nokia even supply spare parts like this?
The reason I ask is pretty simple; I want a cyan Lumia 920 and i live in Australia. I'm not willing to compromise on this decision.
If I have to go so far as to buy an AT&T 920 + an international variant and swap the guts I will. Obviously reselling the AT&T one.
Taking it too far for a colour variant? Maybe. Do I care? No.
Any experience with 800/900 devices would be much appreciated.

I swapped the shells of my Lumia 800 quite a few times, from black to cyan to white. Here's a picture:

If Nokia has kept the basic design, then it's pretty damn easy, all you have to do is unscrew the two screws at the bottom, open the SIM tray, and press against the LCD panel from inside the SIM tray outwards (with a screwdriver) so it pops out. From there it's just taking out the rest of the components with screws.
Many thanks for the input Skydiver.
My concern is not so much with the dis-assembly procedure, Plenty of guides on youtube and I'm sure somebody will do a 920 teardown before Telstra releases the phone.
My question is where did you purchase these alternate shells from and what was the quality of said shells?
Thanks again.
Are there any news on where to get an original Nokia cyan Backcover and sim tray for the Lumia 920?

I wasn't aware that you could swap the 920s' cover yourself. Not sure if you will be able to source the cover for DIY.

It is a bit more involved than that, esp if the replacement shell doesn't have the antennas, although it certainly is doable. If the shell has all the needed parts in it, then it will be nearly as simple as ShotSkydiver described - drop out the sim tray, using a T5 remove the two base screws, flex the case to get it off, then disconnect the ribbon cable for the USB socket.
Here is a fantastic video that demonstrates the entire process with great detail.

This place has them for the 900 and such but not the 920 yet. I keep checking. I have also never purchased anything from them so I do not know how reliable they are but they do carry a lot of cool parts for many devices.

A small update for those interested in doing Lumia 920 frankenbuilds.
I've been contacting spare parts shops (and nokia) regarding OEM Lumia 920 polycarbonate shells; Nokia said no, Several UK online shops said 'maybe in the future' and finally just one appears to actually stock them.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400351666215
So far it only seems to be in the Grey colour (which is surprisingly attractive). I have contacted the seller asking if he will be stocking these in other colours, specifically cyan.
I also asked if the housing comes with the antennas/Wireless charging coil/NFC/Camera housing as the picture seems to imply this.
Update: Seller responded
We have all the colours on order from Nokia and they are due
in. The Wireless pad is not built in with the battery cover. You get
everything you see in the photo

Good news everybody. Seems like we won't have to fiddle about removing all those antennas.
I hope 'all the colours' actually means that and not 'all the EU colours'
body shell from dummy phone
Any possibilities to use a dummy phone's body shell on a working unit??
Dropped my s3 and cracked the screen at the bottom. Its just the glass bit, touch and LCD seem fine so the digitiser is ok.
Does anyone on here know anyone in the north east of England who is able to just replace the screen or recommend a repair by post service.
Been quoted prices of over 150 quid which seems very expensive as there is nothing wrong with digitiser.
I know I can buy the parts for about a tenner but I'm useless with things like this so would make it worse

Any good mobile repair shop should be able to just change the glass. Most will repalce the sealed unit of glass / Digitiset / AMOLED panel though. Just keep contacting mobile phone repair centres until you find one who will do it.
Know someone in North London I've used twice, £50 + postage and I was pleased with result.
Look up everymobile (IIRC) on ebay, London NW2.
If that's not right PM me and I'll find their name.

So......I Was thinking of getting my x201 treated with Liquipel nanocoating. I emailed the company out in Santa Anna, Ca. waiting to hear back from them with an estimate. Now since the casing is supposed to be "water resistant" should I disassemble the watch first and send it into them in parts? I'm guessing this will void my warranty but then again so will just about doing anything to my TS will void omate's warranty. Anyone here tried this on their electronic devices?

I don't know how the process works, but the TS casing is nowhere near water resistant. So yes, probably disassemble it to get better penetration of the coating. I wonder if you will have issues with the antenna connection and other parts that are nearly sealed but not quite. Maybe the coating can protect the gaps in the seal.
OK so I got a response from Liquipel. I'll post it below. So it appears they will treat the watch but you have to sign off on a waver because they've not tested the process on the TS......"Thank you for your response! We can treat your smartwatch for you, but we will require that you sign off on the attached waiver since we have not tested your specific device. We will require that you disassemble the device prior to sending it to us and we will send it back to you to be reassembled. Please also note that the coating may also have a slight effect on the look of the silicone band. If you would like to move forward with the treatment, please feel free to place an order through our website by selecting one of the headphone devices as the price will be the same at $30.00. If you have any questions regarding the ordering process, please feel free to contact us via email or by phone at 1.855.478.4735".
Sounds interesting, if you're happy to take the risk on dis-assembling. I'd still not treat it as waterproof, but this might save you against accidents.
if you go for it be sure to let us know how it goes
Or you can order some of this stuff and do it yourself
http://www.nanostate.co.uk/flash-flood-to-waterproof-smartphones-and-tablets-5ml-p-3.php
Looking at it $30 does seem like good value but not sure if that includes shipping, you might be able to use the same bottle of flashflood on several devices though...
However liquipel might do a much better job then diy
Actually the ipod video they did makes me think, open up my TS and dunk the whole watch into the stuff

Just having it on the screen might be interesting for when you have wet hands and don't want to glitch the touch screen...
Hey there, I hope this is the right place to post this, and if not, I apologize.
The glass in one corner of my S7 Plus tablet is cracked and I am looking to get it fixed, depending on cost. The touchscreen still seems to be unaffected by the broken glass, so I did not think I would need to replace the LCD screen, just the glass.
I contacted a local phone repair place near me to see if I bought a glass panel from Amazon and brought it to them with my tablet if they could do the replacement. They said that it would need to be the glass and LCD screen because they are fused together. The cost of the repair work would be around $130. That did not seem too high to me, but I have never been in this position before, so I have nothing to compare it to.
I have looked online for the cost to get the glass and LCD from Samsung (genuine part would keep the warranty intact from what I have read) and I am only finding pricing for Samsung Australia. That price was around $325 (if I did the conversion right), so I would be looking at over $450 (not counting shipping for the glass and LCD) at minimum.
I am not comfortable trying to replace the glass and LCD myself, so I know my options may be limited. My concern is that for $450 I could instead buy another nice Android tablet (or a Windows one that I can install Linux onto, which I kind of want to do anyways). Is anyone aware of any other replacement options I might be able to try or are worth investigating? This was the one time I did not get the extended warranty from Amazon that would have covered this damage...
Any advice, help, or ideas are greatly appreciated!
Rev.M.
You want a OEM part not a CCP knockoff; the display quality may be inferior or have interface issues.
If it's an LCD display a used OEM one should work fine. Those can likely be found for cheap.
Or simply use as is.
Watch a tear down vid. I'm don't think they're fused. Most are not... although I maybe mistaken.

So that was my first thought, but the repair shop said they were fused and when I searched YouTube for repair videos a couple mentioned needed to heat the glass (broken one not the new one) to remove it and then gently remove residue or something. I am not confident in being able to do the repair myself (hands shake too much and really bad carpal tunnel) and am worried I would break it in the process.

Do some more research. If the are available used on ebay, it's not that hard!
Probably a heat gun properly used will do the job fine.
Lots of repair shops around and online; find a less greedy one. Or a knowledgeable tech at church etc willing to help.
Do Not get isopropyl or any solvents near the liquid crystal display!!!
It will poison it. The sides of the panel are not sealed.
Thanks for the advice. I will do some more research and see what I can find. Hopefully, I can figure out something that doesn't cost as much, but will still work well. I am still kicking myself for not putting it in a protective case and getting the extended warranty from Amazon that would have covered this.

I don't think it will be as bad as you think if you get the right person to repair it.
Just be careful with it for now. Make sure all your critical data is redundantly backed up.
I case everything... it's the only reason my devices weren't destroyed long ago.
