Hi
my brand new S23Ultra wint 512GB has a serious issue. I'm transferring my documents/files/music from the PC on it, approx 80GB, but after a short, random time, the transfer suddenly stops with no warning or error message. Files are of any size and type, when I start the transfer it stops after a couple of minutes, but when I retry, it breaks the transfer always earlier.
I tried different cables, with different files, small ones or large ones, but the story is the same. This is incredible frustrating and substantially prevents me to use the phone if I can not have there my files.
Any suggestions?
Thank you so much for any help
I have one of these on my keychain. invaluable! Nekteck USB Type C OTG Micro SD...
Do you have a USB drive that you could use as an intermediary for the transfer to determine if the problem lies with the PC or the phone?
I did not install a new driver, I'm using the one that worked perfectly with the old S10+. Any pointer to new drivers?
Tnx

After modifying and diddling around with /etc/usb_modeswitch/1bbb_f000 I lost the ability to mount my external hdd through the 3g slot. I have completely reformatted and reinstalled 3.2.79 through the official aos file but no cigar. Some people say usb has never worked for them but mine has worked since I started on 3.2.69. I cannot downgrade with this file however. What should I do? This is making me go crazy.
That shouldn't have affectted the mounting as that switches the archos datakey to modem mode. However if that Is the case I think the lowest that you can goto is 3.2.79.
With regards to mounting. I always make sure I have the 3G key enabled in settings and a reboot sometimes helps.
Hope that helps

Shooooooot well there's two possible solutions. Either I get that cable and it might let me mount through the microusb or archos might fix it in the ics update (unlikely). I've tried switching 3g on and off and rebooting but its no good. If one of the devs on here can pin down what is limiting the 3g stick maybe they could find a tweak and add it in a new rom.
That said if you've always had mounting ability then even with a newer rom it should re-enable it always has for me and I re-set my device quiet often.
You mentioned you had screwed the permissions on your 1bbb_f000 file. The ones I have is --rw-r--r-- (which is chmod 0644) with a owner and group of root.
Post a logcat and dmesg output after you've inserted your Usb Drive and then someone might be able to help.
I'd also recommend this app from the market for checking the state of your usb devices. It's nothing to do with me and "props" to the developers as It's coming in very useful.
Okay I was able to get a couple screenshots from the usb program, and my permissions from rom toolbox. I got adb back on my computer since I figure it will come in handy anyway and I was able to dump logcat and dmesg logs.
Just checked a USB stick on 3.2.80 - it does work as it did. Thus the s/w version is not the problem. If you completely reformatted the device, your settings should not survive, too. Look for other vulnerable point in the chain, the problem often appears not where you look for it but in the most unexpected place.
-- Try a flash stick - does it work? If yes, then usb-storage driver is ok.
-- Is your HDD self-powered or powered only from the same USB port? Try using a more powerful source, if possible. Or haven't you noticed any unstabilities using it with other hosts, e.g. low-power netbooks? Try as many ports and hosts as you can. HDD is a mechanical unit, it is subject to wearout, and with time it consumes more power to spin on its old bearings. Finally it stops working even from a PC, though it is still possible to take out the HDD itself and connect in to SATA/IDE and directly to PC power source - but it will consume more than 500mA standard for USB ports. That is what could happen right in these days when you were using it - it reached some critical degree and does not start any longer.
You may also try different cables - sometimes their grade (connectors, electrical resistance) may be critical in this boundary situation.
Nevertheless (to public Knowledge Base : previous s/w versions are still available at Archos website. There are no direct links but you can easily figure them out - just put the correct number into the last catalog name. E.g.:
Code:
http://update.archos.com/9/gen9/gen9_3.2.69/firmware_archos_it4.aos
At least, for the nearest few hours, until Archos people read this and fix this bug )

Flashsticks unfortunately also do not work. I'm using a small hdd that is powered through USB but has worked flawlessly before. When I try to use the old fw file I thing I get error -122 saying this fw is too old for your hw revision. The reason I figured 3.2.69 would be a good fw to downgrade to is because they first introduced USB mounting and cinema codes. I figured throughout the upgrades the USB mounting at least stayed intact until now. This whole thing might have been started through the usb_modeswitch command.
I can mount jumpdrives now but no HDD. I could do this before, what did they change? It seems like there is not as much voltage to the back USB as before. Any root app that could adjust things accordingly?
I fully intend on rooting and loading a good ROM on this but I;m heading to Mexico and want to put some flicks for the trip on here. That was the whole reason for getting this tablet.
Is there any way to avoid using the crappy Windows Media Player to transfer files across??? Takes for ever and it wants to transcode everything for crying out loud. Pain in the ass!!!!
Dragging and dropping doesn't seem to work, just sits there and errors out. Can't even transfer MP3 files over using Windows Explorer. If it can't be done then why the hell show the drive in My Computer!!!!
Was so excited and then so disappointed!
Sure it worked on mine. Have you got an sd card in it? Perhaps use a card reader and put it on that way.

I have the Turbo 250GB version with ICS on it.
Plugged into the WIN7 system at work and nothing gets transfered, just sits there and then errors out.
Come to think of it, I updated it to ICS by pasting the Archos ROM onto the system. Now that it's on there I can't copy files there anymore!?!?!
I have tried several computer to transfer files to my 80 G9 250gb model. What a pain in the but. WMP works sometimes but it is slow. The camera mode worked for a while then stopped. Tech support said to reflash it. I did then it didn't work at all.. I tried wireless but that was to slow but did work. I don't have there little proprietary usb cable and there store was out of them so i just plugged my 1 tb passport drive into the full size usb port on the back and used it. Worked great. Nice transfer speeds compared to what I had been getting.
On another note the hard drive on the archos had a problem waking up after the tablet was not used for a while. For the first 3 days the tablet would freeze with the disc icon showing and the hard drive would never spin up. I would have to hard reset it to make it work. The last two days it has been working fine. I have IC 4.0.3 since I got it and no firmware updates to explain why the drive works now but it does.

SOLVED!!!!!!
FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!
I had immediately flashed ICS onto the tablet but they (Archos) in their infinite wisdom, failed to include a wipe of the data partition (Harddrive) of all data when flashing the device with the new image.
I performed a full reset of the tablet which formatted the harddrive. Once it restarted everything was hunkydory!
It is rather slow though transfering though USB. I have noticed that plugging in a flash drive to the host USB and transferring through there went slightly faster so that might be an option for some.
Another idea I had was to install an FTP server and transfer files that way.
I've tried via hardwire usb and swiftp but no luck. Usb get's me the furthest but then stalls about 1/2 way through while swiftp cuts our almost immediately.
I'm trying to transfer about 10 gb of files from a Windows 7 pc but don't know what to do next to get this to work.
Any ideas or suggestions? I'm currently transfering the files to a thumbdrive (no issue) then I'll attempt the same thing with my laptop/Ubuntu rig to see if that works but I'm stymied here.
What are the files, vidyas? If so, then you should think about getting a micro sd. I find that is the most convenient. Other than that, you can try asus webstorage.

Not vidyas, ebooks, actually. Any idea why the connection is so useless though? If a micro sd is more stable then I could pick one up but I'm wondering what's up with it as is? Didn't really want to do the webstorage thing so much but I'll check it out too.
I just transferred 17gb of data with no issues.
I only have issues transfering data via wifi. All copy attempts to transfer a 2gb+ filevia network cancel immediatly. No problems via usb so far.
Well I'm thinking the issue may be with the contents of the file I've been trying to upload. I uploaded a 5gb video file this morning very quickly with no issue whatsoever.

How are yall getting MTP to work so quickly it takes forever for me to upload anything from my pc (usb 3.0 ports or 2.0 ports) via MTP i tried transferring 8gb of music the other day came back after an hour and still no where near completion, i know once we get Mass storage hacked into the kernels itll go alot faster but there has to be a better way right now.
(micro sd atm seeems to be the fastest way (transferred 8gb music in under 15 minutes)

So I picked up a micro sd today and problem is solved. Just to add to this, I easily and quickly uploaded a 5gb video file this morning without issue. So I'm still not sure why I can't transfer the original successfully.

I hv transfer large files also, no problem.
No issues with file transfer via usb or wifi. I did notice though, that if you use ES File Explorer, it does not complete the transfer. Some of the file explorer apps don't work with large files very well over wifi with ICS. I just tried some of the highly rated ones until I found one that I liked. Frequently transfer large files to and from my TFP with no issues. Just pulled a 10Gb+ BDrip of avatar onto it to take on the road yesterday. Copy took several hours but completed with no issues.
Hi
Sorry if there has already been a post like this, my sgs3 seems to work well with usb otg with mem sticks and different input devices, but when i try to connect any External Hard Drive over 2tb, my phone freezes and crashes, any reasons why???
There might be an problem with the HDD not getting enough power or it might be a problem with the file system. But to be honest, the worst case should be the phone does not recognizing the HDD or telling you that it's corrupted. A crash is definitely out of the ordinary.
It is Externally powered so i doubt it it the power, but my usb powerd 100gig hdd works fine, but thanks for reply
how did you get a 100gig hard drive to work. i cant get my hdd to work with it. only the light comes on but the phone doesnt find anything
Use a Y-usb connector, 2 usb's in one end and a micro-usb on the other. Plug one usb in to usb charger that came with the phone, plug the other usb into tho otg addaptor, and finally the micro-usb into the hdd, and bang it should work.

i have the same problem. i have two different 1Tb drives (one western digital one Hitachi) both formatted as Fat32 and both make the phone crash and need a full reboot. maybe i need to try reformatting the drives.
i emailed samsung asking them exactly what formats/size/specs are required of a hard drive to be supported by an s3 via otg. obviously their reply was not very useful. they told me it doesnt work... which i already knew and had already told them in my email. I replied asking for more specifics but so far I have been ignored. I even offered to buy a samsung hard drive if they could tell me it would work.

I had the same issue with my WD 500gig 2.5 HDD. After some research you have to either 1) the HDD in Fat32 or exFAT or 2) when you are rooted use one of the apps that mount NTFS partitions (e.g. I am using Paragon NTFS&HFS+). At least that brought my HDD to live, before just got the empty flashdrive found, filesystem unknown message, but I also read in different other threats that people have issues with other HDDs.
Hi there. Please help me with V10 problem, that it doesn't see usb cable, I cannot put to the sdhc onto phone data from pc. There is no information on the phone about any usb cable connection to it, phone only charges. This is one problem. Second is that I did manufacture reset on V10 because the phone had problems with playing mp3. There was info that it cannot play mp3. I have as well old samsung note first version and on it there is no problem with same mp3 files. I t did check memory card and with it is all ok. What do you think ?
Hello! Try going into device manager, find your device, click update driver, and then select browse my computer for driver software, and select MTP Android. This one worked for me!
ok i did checked
I did check and all is up to date, my LG service man said that it may be damaged electronics inside, because after hard reset still nothing... I did changed cables and no connection to pc
