Did you try : press and hold initial screen, then settings/ home screen layout

Save all your Apps on the home screen default page (as shortcuts)?
With Nova, you can create up to 20 x 20 grid (home) page - therefore potentially have 400 Apps (possibly more if enable 'overlapping' in options) displayed on your main home-page.........

How to move icons / applications to home screen?

I installed several applications (Viber, Skype etc.) and their icons (or these applications) were placed on "second" screen. I tried several ways and was unable to move any icon / application to my home screen. The phone displays "can't move" and the icon is automatically returned to "second" screen. It seems the home screen layout is somehow locked but I there is not any "home screen" menu in settings to unlock it. My MIUI version is MIUI Global 8.1 Stable 8.1.4.0 (MHOMIDI), Android is 6.0.1 MMB29M. Can somebody please advise whether it is, in general, possible to move icons / applications to the home screen and, if so, how to do that.
I didn't try but I think you should made different folder and place them in the folder ?

Thanks onukomer. While trying various options I got a message "no more room on this home screen". So, I removed two default applications from the home screen and was then able to move two my applications from the second to the home screen. However I was able to move only such applications which have "add shortcuts to home screen" in their settings, for instance WhatsApp. But Viber does not have "add shortcuts to home screen" YES / NO in its permissions menu. Why Viber and several other of my applications do not allow switch that "shortcuts to home screen" permission ON / OFF? They even do not have that in their settings... Why? Any ideas?
Friend, i think that's apps not have any other shortcut like whatsapps "whatsapp video shortcut" all is mine thinking. Did you try to use a different launcher? Or do you use any weather or clock widget? That's occupies too much area of the home screen
Yes, you are absolutely right - my problem was that there was no enough space on my home screen, most probably due to the clock. Once I started to free up the space by removing unnecessary icons I was able to move icons from my second to the home screen without any problems. Thank you very much for your assistance

multi windows options not showing on PIE (S9+)

Multi windows options not showing on PIE (S9+). After tapping the spacer icon the options are not showing (see screenshots). Any suggestions?
The multi windows options are explained here: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00079048/
Yes I notice it. U have to do it the other way... Not sure why they remove it
They changed it a bit..
When your in recent apps there is a symbol that appears at the top of the app. Pressing that will show a menu, one of the options is "open in split screen view".
This is how you now access the feature. I attached a screen shot of the settings app showing the respective symbol. Yellow arrow points to the symbol you want to press (symbol will vary pending on the app).

Thanks for this. I was slightly confused at first, it might be easier for people to understand to say that the app's icon appears at the top of the app in the recents screen, and tapping that icon gives you the options for the app, like split screen, pop-up view etc ?
I want to creat a 'icon pair on the home screen' that option is missing from the new menu. Thats my real question. Sorry about asking it in two steps
You can creat an icon pair in the edge screen but it will not appear on the home screen. Any ideas?

I tried it and I couldn't get it to work either, though I haven't used the feature before so I never created an app pair on my home screen. It maybe something they changed and now is (or with one UI maybe only ever was) available from the edge panel.
Update - Checking the users manual (for our phone with Android Pie) indicates the only way to natively create an app pair now is via the Edge Panel.

There is an apk called split-screen creator in the play store that allows you to create shortcuts that can be placed on the home screen.

Question Always open app in side-by-side when unfolding...

Anyone know if it's possible to always open the app (assuming the user has an app open) in side-by-side mode when unfolding?
Presumably this would need to be done with Tasker...
for that I use "Split Screen Launcher" in the play store BY paprikanotfound
*note sometimes it might be glitchy if one app was already open. but its a good enough way.
Actually you can do this natively by launching the apps in split-screen, then taking the splitter and saving to the home screen.
What I want though is for the app that your currently using in fold mode - when you unfold it automatically is on the left side of the screen and the home-screen shows on the right ready for you to launch a second app...
in that case you might be able to do it by using a new profile
choose State > Display Orientation > Landscape
then create a task for it search for split screen toggle and voila
*note this require my xml file

unfortunately using custom launcher breaks the default split screen shortcuts at least on my device.

Question Force Full screen for apps and games?

My previous Sony had an option in the Display/Settings for running apps and games to run in full screen.
There is no such option on the Xperia 1 IV. I have several apps and games that are having black bars and not full screen.
What methods are there of forcing apps and games to run full screen???
Immersive mode is broken since Android 11. The only options require root.

It's a shame, I remember with my old Sony Xperia 1 Mark II, there was an option under "display" & then "display apps in full screen, apps that did not display full screen had the option to use full screen as normal.
Also there was an option" double tap to wake" which also appears to be missing in the Xperia IV.

Settings -> Display -> Lock screen preferences -> Tap to show lock screen. See the descriptive text under the option. Doesn't this do that?

You are correct, this option is for the "double tap to wake" option, it's just worded differently than the predecessor, thanks for correcting me.

That is a good idea. But the shortcuts it creates from applications are not in sync with the main application.
I'd suggest looking at an app called shortcut maker. It has all the solutions to your shortcuts problem.

Give us a hint on how to create a shortcut on the home screen to access the mobile network mode.
Download the app..look for the shortcut that you need and the app creates it to your home screen...I have it on my phone...really good stuff.

That's not a hint.
In Shortcut Maker, as in Activity Launcher, there is no shortcut to mobile network mode.
Both apps only find what Shortcutter Quick Settings creates.

Assuming you have shortcut maker running, go to intents link, search for network...choose network operator settings...and then create shortcut...voila

Unfortunately, but it does not open the network selection list itself, only a place in the android settings where you can open the list.
In my solution the view is like this:

There just isn't a way my friend. Not to that specific part of the menu. That thread of the settings doesn't have its own activity.
The mother activity is
com.android.settings.Settings$WirelessSettingsActivity
And this is the closest you can get to that particular setting.
What I usually do is...using Modes and Routines....on a second home page....I add One manual routine for each mobile network connection type.
It isn't ideal....but it does work.

Here is how I do it.
Made a second page on your home screen.
This is optional.
Go to Modes And Routines.
Tap the "+" icon in the top right.
Tap the "+" under "If"
Tap "Start manually"
Tap the "+" under Then.
Tap "Connections"
Tap "Network mode"
A menu will pop up. Tap one. EG "2G only"
Now...under "When routine ends"
Tap "Reverse actions"
Toggle the top "On" toggle off.
(This is very important...because this makes the whole routin a switch a opposed to a toggle)
Tap "Save"
At the top tap "Network Mode" and rename it to what mode you chose for this switch.
Give it an icon...if you wish.
Now...depending on your launcher...you'll be asked to place a widget. Place it in your home screen.
Now...repeat...but swapping 2g to 3g....and so on.

Hang on! Are we talking about the same app. This is the app that I'm referring to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rk.android.app.shortcutmaker. This app takes you to the main network selection window..there you can choose the mode...This saves at least 2-3 prior clicks...

I know my way is long winded...but you do it once...and as long as you cancel the reverse action of each routine....you end up with a button you can tap to swap it to the network type you wish.
If you leave the reverse action...you end up with lots of routines "on" and the switching doesn't work.

Here is a video of it in action.....I sat her and set that up...just to show you how it works...but I like the way it works so much...
That I kept it...and moved my rice and BBQ timer routines to the new screen.
