New beta i-mate rom 1.72.00 - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

There is a beta rom on the club i-mate ftp site. It looks like it allows anonymous ftp so go get it if you feel adventurous. I have only looked at it briefly but one thing I did notice is that cleartype is still fooked.
ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/support/RUU120_172126_i-mate_WWE_R11400.exe
ce version 1.72.00
extended rom version 1.72.126
radio version 1.14.00

I wont be installing BETA version anymore... Had fun with the T-Mobile one... ;-)
Could you please check if this rom changes the DEVICE ID to an unknown device like the T-Mobile beta rom did...

What passwords can I use with Rom Editor ?

When you use er2003edit you have to use these passwords:
NK.nbf = 0x20040304
ms_.nbf = 0x20040305
radio_.nbf = 0x20040306
Dont forget when you open a rom file you have to unselect AUTO DETECT ROM.
So when you open the nk.nbf file make sure you selected OS ROM.
And for ms_.nbf you selected EXTENDED ROM
And for radio_.nbf you selected RADIO ROM

Also you can download it on our XDA FTP server.
I downloaded the rom and uploaded to our server.

Well, my device is working flawlessly now. So il stick to this rom until there is some significant changes. Like a release

Bad Cleartype. argh!
in a few day i will give my impressions.

I don't think it's beta anymore as it's listed on the Device Support page.
http://www.clubimate.com/index.asp?PageAction=DEVICE_PPC_UPD

Anyone have a list of changes?

Can you post the final version. I have just installed the "Beta" one, looks very good, stable with all the features listed as improvements. The extende ROM looks a bit thin compared to T-mobiles Beta. I hope it has bee pumped up in the final release.

I'm about to go out having finished the flash(es) sucessfully, I'll try to post later if noone else has.
NOTE: After the original flash my imate was as normal, but after the part 2 flash (even more updated extended rom image my bootup image said "Test Version only" (or similar) at first boot, but after customisations had installed, it seems to be normal. Wierd!

Tried to upload, but when I previewed the post it removed the file from the FTP site. I'll try again l8r, sorry.

As I said before there is the BETA that is on the first of this thread and the offical from the clubimate.com website. I just flashed mine and there is no beta screen anywhere in the official release

There is a "not for resale" message on the boot screen the first time (AND ONLY THE FIRST TIME) after installing RUU172800WWE_CDL_SKU1.exe, which is the english Extended ROM only image, not the RUU172126WWE_imate.exe file which contains all three, but a lower version of the Ext. ROM.
You install the ...SKU1.EXE file over the top of the Ext. ROM in the full image if you read the instructions on clubimate.
Hope this clarifies my meaning.

Hallo drj, can you upload your version please, unless you have a non-distribution agreement with i-mate! The BETA version looks very promising, ClearType very presentable on my device. I'd, like many others here, appcreciate it if the final release were made available.

Looks to be available to everyone now.

Separate EXT ROM upgrade here:
http://www.clubimate.com/Support/RUU172800WWE_CDL_SKU1.exe
Is Cleartype still bad?

TMobile 1.72 VS iMate 1.72 and ClearType
Some people, ilvanni, have mentioned that the iMate 1.72 has the bad looking ClearType font... Does anyone know if the TMobile 1.72 has bad ClearType as well??

It says nothing about downloading this file on the official download page, there is no link for this anywhere. THe only way to download this is if you login to the ftp site which is not in the instructions. Can you post your versions of camera, mms etc. I think you just installed a beta over the official which is included in the offical release.

Some interesting things on the T-Mobile 1.60 update software

I tried the T-Mobile 1.60 rom on my O2 xda2.
It works perfectly with my xda2.
However, I found some interest thing on the new rom upgrade process
1. It seems XDA2 (or HTC Himalaya) use one single program for RAIDO / Extended Rom / OS Rom update. It seems Radio upgrade failure may no longer case device failure, because the RADIO upgrade process is same as OS upgrade process, and not required to copy the whole software into the RAM to upgrade.
2. Sinces some of us (and my XDA2) report that the exteneded rom is READ ONLY, but the upgrade program can update the extended rom. That means the Exteneded rom is not REALLY read only, but somewhere locked it. More funny is , it is seems the Main OS rom is not controlling the exteneded rom is locked or not, because after I updated the extended rom, it is still locked.
3. If O2 XDA2 can use T-Mobile MDA2 update, it seems the upgrade software no longer check the header of the device (At lease this version won't). I think we can use it to change device's language. However I don't know how to dump the rom in .nbf format, is that possible to convert the nb1 format to nbf format?
Thanks.
Hi killercheung...
where are you find the 1.60 rom ?
and the radio what version is ?
Can you put it in my ftp pls ?
it's always on

Thanks in advance

killercheung, thanks for that... I'm still deciding whether to apply the new rom to my UK XDA II.... is the language of the rom netherlands? or can I have it all in english as it is with the normal O2 rom?
Do we lose anything from the o2 rom/extended rom ?
I'm wondering if O2 do bring an upgrade out if we'll be able to still use it if we've tried this t-mobile 1.60 rom.... hmmmmm
hmmm decisions decisions... do you think its much better than the current o2 rom?
Now that I have moved to the 1.60 rom, I must say there's ONE thing I DO miss ....
My O2 BUBBLES ARE GONE FROM MY ASIAN O2.
(I obviously knew this could happen, but thought I'd made a backup of my extended ROM (I DID, but I accidentally tossed it a few days ago) . Who would be so kind as to send me a copy of the O2.cab file from the extended rom, so that I can put the bubbles back into my dialer ...)

Hi Killercheung,
You've missed out something ... the EXE file can be unzipped (using Winrar) ... you will then see the same upgrade.exe files, nbf files (3 of them) ... you can then deleted the ms_.nbf so that only the CORE ROM and RADIO is updated, and keep all O2 EXTENDED_ROM content untouch.
You can also use the same method to upgrade to Chinese ...

Good news about the T-Mobile ROM. I don't know what they have fixed/patched, but my O2 XDA II ROM never bothered to disconnect the GPRS connection after having spent some time online, not after surfing, not after checking e-mail. Mind you the T-moblile ROM doesn't either, except ....... when checking e-mail, which in my eyes is quite important.
So now I can go back to have my XDA check my e-mail once per hour, knowing that it will disconnect automatically.
(And Satria, thanks for sending me my bubbles

Hi,
Just one question. Did any of you that make the update testet with the bluetooth GPS?
If yes, It works? or you still have to install TOWA´s patch?

For NBF, you can use XDAtools to capture the Chinese ROM, I did once with the English ROM and the file size is exactly the same as the one in 1.60 update. So there should have no missing bytes in the saved file.
For the EXTENDED_ROM, no idea how to save in NBF format ..
I have installed the update but TomTom doesnt see the serial ports 4/5.
@axbl
Hi, What do you think about the update? It´s mutch better than before?
You say "TomTom doesnt see the serial ports 4/5."
Have you installd Towa solution?

yikes...... did that happen on the old rom as well or did gprs stay connected on the original rom?
I hate the way gprs disconnects on devices.. it's supposed to be always on, and I'd really prefer if it stayed on during suspend etc so that MSN could stay connected, notifying me when I got a message....
Email checking likewise, I'd prefer gprs remained always connected and it'd check email in the background whether off or on, notifying me when it got a new mail.
I can't check the behaviour of my xda II since Im on "roaming" at the moment in another country so no gprs
but can anyone say for sure which way the old vs new rom work in this regard?

O2 v1.72.187 apps

On sourceO2 it says that you can download the latest O2 ROM. Now, I know this link isn't up and running yet, but it does give some interesting info.
The bit I'm interested in is the new applications that come with a new XDA2. It says on here you can download them, but then asks for a username/password.
Anyone have a SourceO2 account and could pull these off for us?
Thanks!
Thanks for the heads-up, doh, but when I click the link to continue... (in bold below)

Extract the 1.72.187 ROM image
I was wondering has anyone try to extract the ms_.nbf in the 1.72.187 update from sourceO2 website? I have tried to extract it with xda2nbftool and er2003edit (password: 0x20040305) but failed. If anyone got it, please let me know how to do it. Thank you for all suggestions and advices.
Where did you get the 1.72.197 update from? SourceO2 are still linking to the 1.60.50 update at my-xda.com.
Sorry for the confusion. I don't have the 1.72.187 ROM. I messed up by my own "folder system" . The one that I thought it is the 1.72.187, well actually, is some kind of customization ROM and I named it as 1.72.187. Sorry for all confusions I have created!

What won't install? Where does your quoted "the ROM is updated" message come from?
The three new apps won't install.
The installer runs on the PC,
then on the XDA there is the same error each time.
Setup Error - Unable to install application, Please update your device ROM to the required version before trying again.
I've upgraded to v172187,
restored by backup,
synchronised
and everything works fine.
Except this.
It could be that the restore overwrote the ROM version in the registry. Check your device information to see what version it reports. If it is incorrect, change it by amending the registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\3rdversion\MSYSTEM to the correct value then try the installs again.

English Cingular 8525 ROM update (AKU2.6): v1.31 radio 1.13

Here is another new ROM from the still unreleased Cingular 8525: HTC Hermes (HERM100) branded from U.S. Operator Cingular.
ROM Version: 1.31.502.1
ROM Date: 08/30/06
Radio: 1.13.00.00
Protocol: 32.49.7018.00H
OS build: 14989.2.6.0 (AKU 2.6)
As always, download link on the wiki upgrading page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
If you have questions be sure to read the Hermes wiki first, specially the Upgrading FAQs.
Notes on this ROM:
* See the thread on the previous Cingular ROM (v1.30) for upgrading issues, such as enabling video calls, band selection tab, MMS, ExtROM customizations, etc...
Enjoy
WARNING: This ROM has bootloader version 1.06 where only RUU updates specifying the same CID as your device has will be permitted to run. You will need to DOWNGRADE to a ROM matching your CID with bootloader 1.04 to be able to bypass the vendorID check again.
UPDATE: New ROM v1.34
I think you're releasing this one just to terrorize everyone that has just jumped through hoops over the past few days with the last ROM...
Firstly, Thank you.
Second. Is a hard reset necessary if you're already on the cingular rom?
yes... you have to flash it again, so it will be in default settings as after a hard reset.
the OS version is incorrect on the wiki! on wiki, it shows OS version 14955.2.3.0, i just flashed to the latest cingular RON, it showing OS version 14989.2.6.0
ooopps... copy paste problems
Thanks for the correction, and yes, this is an AKU 2.6 ROM
sorry for jumping the gun. i already fixed it on wiki. os version and protocol version been updated..
aku 2.6 .... damn!
... so many roms... so little time...
My imagination or are contact ringtones missing from this build? Were present in the i-mate ROM. Pof didn't give me enough time to check out the 1st Cingular ROM ;-)
Cheers
I'm going for this one I think. If HTC releases their TyTN specific ROM update tomorrow, you'll have me and the deity Murphy to thank.....
edits as the upgrade progresses:
08:21 AM CDT
Upgrade start time. First impression... boy is this ever slow. I guess they're not kidding when they say "Remember, the operation will take about 25 minutes". This is significantly slower than my 8125 flash process was.
08:30 AM CDT
22% complete. Let's see, a little math shows a 45 minute flash time if the same rate progresses. I've turned off my screen saver and am closing all unused apps on my desktop. Fortunately, the battery on my TyTN was fully charged before I started...
08:35 AM CDT
25% complete. 25 minutes is looking more like an hour at this rate...
08:42 AM CDT
Flash rate just jumped up I'm now at 61% complete.... Patience is the buzzword to remember when flashing TyTNs it would seem.
08:44AM CDT
Flash complete. 23 minutes elapsed time. The warning is correct! I just heard the Initial setup chime on my TyTN
Now its off to extrom customization. I've pre-loaded the most current TyTN Extrom on my sd card so I'll be cancelling out of Cingular's default startup and loading this instead...
08:47AM CDT
Nice little Cingular splash screen with a flaming 3G ball of fire on it...
anyone using this rom yet? What do you think
As Pof points out at the beginning of this thread, the AKU2.6 version of the Cingular ROM inherits the same troublesome limitatations as this one AKU2.3:
* Extended-ROM is locked from writing. You can read, but not write;
* Video camera must be added 'manually' using alternative extended ROM (e.g., HTC 1.06)
* Button 5 (press and hold) functions have been locked to PTT (push-to-talk is not working in this ROM version)
There are no existing work-arounds to:
- unlocking the extended ROM, so you have 10mb less program storage space with this ROM;
- map button five (PTT is hard-coded).
Following pof's earlier post instructing how to manually install the HTC ROM, you will end up with the HTC "Green" dialer and CommManager.
CommManager can be replaced with the blue one (search threads for download). Dialer can be replaced with several different dialers (see wiki).
Cheers

In other HTC devices the upgrade image was decrypted by the upgrade software and sent unencrypted to the device. With the Hermes, HTC has changed this and the upgrade image is sent encrypted to the device. Now the Hermes has to take the encrypted data sent by the upgrade utility and decrypt it before actually flashing it. That's why it takes more time.

New Atom Rom on O2 site

Original post by SupaStar of Mtekk forum:
New on the O2 website, same ROM, new Radio Stack. There also appears to be a change to the Extended ROM.
WAS:
ROM: 20060426B1WWE
Radio: R060428N_MN1ARC_RS00049
ExtROM: EX0018
NOW:
ROM: 20060426B1WWE
Radio: R060822N_MN1ARC_RS00052
ExtROM: EX0023
Here's the link: http://www.seeo2.com/user/XdaAtom/template/XdaAtom_ROMUpgrade_Oct2006_WWE.vm
The only info provided by O2 is "This System Software Upgrade corrects location update issue in GSM radio firmware that may lead to inability to place outgoing calls."
I somehow failed to update this rom using my atom's login id, it says my atom doesn't need the update... well, radio part, may be, but there is also a change in Ext-Rom, I really want to know what the change is all about.
thanx , hope the battery prob is fixed
same here.says i dont need it.what gives?
any changelog?
bug fix?
If you have any other version than English Version than the upgrade is not for you. Else if you still want to check it out the option to RESET the phone ROM is always there CAMERA+RESET button and then connect to the USB and setup the new ROM.
At a glance, it looks that the GSM functionality under 900MHz has been improved.
I have a "genuine" English version Atom, no vail, still say i don't need it when i try to download the rom from o2 site
i can't downlad & got the same message too, anyone success download from O2 site, pls share with us, very itching to know the change. thanks.
I'm not sure. I initially was faced with the same problem. Here is how I go around it. Copy the url for the updated rom first. Do not go to the link yet. Instead go into their main seeo2 site. Login as usual in the o2 connect. Once you are logged into your account. Then paste the url. Now you should be able to download the file.

Thanks, I think this is very helpfull.
Great! Always usefull when you need to restore your device
Has anyone tested if any of these ROMs flash properly.. for me it would be the Dutchversion then... But I can not test right now can not have my phone broken down. Once Kaizer is out I am going to buy that one and then I could test, but would be nice to know if these dumped ROMs work
Unfortunately I do not know, I haven't even tested the UK version as I am not sure if it will work, however I did update the RUU.
Shame we cannot emulate the firmware install!
The T-Mob UK dumped ROM isn't quite right - the w'n'w home page doesn't work properly.
Minor thing but, one of the first things I tested
I dumped my friends ROM the other day. I'm currently working on building it and testing it - will let you know when it's done
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Hmmm...humble pie - lovely
Well, after flashing the ROM i dumped the other day, I had exactly the same thing with IE.
It took me about 3 seconds to realise it must be because the extROM had been flashed by one of the WM6 ROMs I had been using in the past.
As it turns out, this is the case so I can confirm that if you have the same issue, download the extROM dumo from the wiki (from this page) and delete the current contents of your extROM and copy the downloaded one back to it. Hard reset, and voila - everything back the way T-Mobile shipped (apart from Radio ROM, IPL\SPL etc...) but WTH ;-)

Trapper,
I assume you mean how can you put the correct Extended ROM onto your device? If I understand this correctly, the ROMs mentioned in Jygar's first post are the original main ROM but the Extended ROM is in fact from a Windows Mobile 6 ROM (I do not believe that flashing a ROM will affect the Extended ROM - the problem is that the re-flashed (downgraded) WM5 ROM is starting the Extended ROM installation after the basic OS install (as normal) but that Extended ROM is still a WM6 one.
The page that is linked to includes many Extended ROMs from many countries and devices - one of them an original T-Mobile ROM (here) and if you were to unlock/unhide and mount your Extended ROM you would be able to delete the incorrect (WM6) ones and then paste in these original Extended ROM files.
The Extended ROM files are executed during a hard reset after the OS has been installed - details of how this works are within this forum. I am not sure that you need to do a hard reset but it all depends on whether you stopped the device completing a normal (complete) install. After a hard reset the device will start to execute the Extended ROM files/.cabs and if you stop that with a soft reset as soon as it starts then the device will re-boot with a basic WM build (with no service provider fixes/updates/customisations/settings)
If this is all explaining what you already know then sorry but your question posted is rather open... Hope this helps
ExtROM.nb attached Just put it into an NBH and flash
@tony.wheeler - What was the original radio version of your Vario II? I'm in the process of creating a complete upgrade to restore UK MDA Vario II's to their 'out of the box' state with the original ROMs (IPL, SPL, MainSplash, SubSplash, OS, Radio ExtROM)
Phil
eek, think it was 1.03?
[edit]Have done a search it appears it is 1.05!
only problem is this is HTC_BOOT 0106 and most ppl are now patched to 0108 so I would have thought we cannot downgrade our radio rom.
TBH 1.43 is the best radio rom out and i cannot say a bad word against it. I have only eva updated my radio rom and since the radio update have not had a problem with the origional t-mob os.
Hehe, yeah i found out it was 1.05 as well. Oh well, I'll use 1.07 in my NBH. I now have a complete ROM backup (IPL, SPL, GSM, OS, MainSplash, SubSplash, ExtROM) to revert back to should anything ever happen which means I would need to claim on the warranty.
Phil

I keep loosing connection with the 1.50 that came with the WM6 test ROM, and also falling down to GSM even though I'm in a good 3G reception area.
Didn't seem to notice these problems before. I was running Radio 1.48 onto of the old radio.

Any chance of you posting this backup ROM? There are many of us who would be very keen to have this as a safety net for when we have to return our Vario 2s under warranty.

I too am running with Radio 1.50, after a short-lived update to WM6. I have had no problems at all with 2g or 3g, steady as a rock.
