switch GPRS off after use - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 ROM Development

I've got another question for the masses, I've search around and cant seem to find any reference to it.
Is there any way to switch GPRS off after use?
for example I use SPB Weather, which connects to update its weather report via GPRS, it logs on fine, retrieves the laters weather report, but GPRS stays on.
As it is I'm having to go into Comms Manager and turning off the Data Connection, which is a bit repetative, any solutions?

GBS-Tweak does it
I use a small program, made by Georg Graz, which works fine (WM5 and 6). You can choose how long GPRS will stay on after use.

In most ROM's there is a disconnect option in bubble. That appears when you tap on the G icon in the title bar. An other method is to keep the red hang-up phone button pressed for a second or five. GPRS will disconnect then.

great guys thanks

thats odd, when I try and install the cab, it tells me sucessful install but there's no GBS-Tweak.cpl file in my windows directory,I believe thats what gets installed. nothing in my programs or settings after a soft boot. cant chuck me your GBS-Tweak.cpl file over could you?

not to worry I ripped the cab and changed the file name of the largest file then moved it into my windows directory. that worked

Phew!
I almost started to worry.
Glad to read it works

GPRS Connection (Always online)

Was anyone able to resolve this problem with the new xda II rom? i dont want it to disconnect.
Regards
Only solution so far is to not upgrade to the new ROM.
I've followed this path.
Who wants to reconnect GPRS every time they turn their XDA II back on?
Certainly not I.

With Spb GPRS Monitor you can do not only GPRS Connections switch off
ROM upgrade is the best solution
Dear all,
I got to know that to end the GPRS is to hold the END Talk button for about 2-3 second and it will switch off the GPRS. The icon will change and if you check by clicking the icon it will tell you that GPRS is off.
Regards,
Kueh.
I've got the ROM update from T-Mobile:
version 1.60.00WWE
radio: 1.06.01
ExtROM: 1.60.06
But I customized the ExtROM since I don't have a Read-only ExtROM. Removed most of the T-Mobile specific customizations and GPRS does stay connected after going into suspend mode. In fact, there is also a Disconnect button for GPRS and pressing the End Call button once will disconnect GPRS. I don't have to hold it down for a few seconds anymore.
However, I do have the problem where File Explorer will show the spinning circle "busy" icon non-stop after certain file management activities.

I think you may have trouble with SD slot / SD card.
Upgrade with de official Imate rom. It works and gprs doesnt disconnect after power off
OK,
In order to use the 1.60 ROM and have always on GPRS, you need to delete the TMD_AP_NL.sa.CAB file from the extended ROM and then hard reset again. I have deleted all of the TMD*.CAB files as I assumed they were T-Mobile specific and not needed for running my I-Mate (even on T-Mobile) and my GPRS connection is now always on. This particular CAB file is also responsible for the GPRS connection time indicator, which I no longer have, I guess it would show a long time.

GPRS keeps connecting

That's the big deal... once I connect it once it keeps connecting back until I soft reset... It doesn't matter if I press disconnect on the bubble... It will just dial back again in a few seconds.
Anyone has a clue on what it might be? any setting I might change?
I'm using Transformer 1.0

Some program is reconnecting beause it needs internetconnection. A common reason is that you choose an emailaccount to check your mail at intervals. In that case, if you change that email setting to check manually, it only connects when you ask for it.
Perhaps in your case you activated an other program (f.i. the Wheather tab of Home plugin?) that uses an internet connection. But you should search the solution in that direction. Good Luck!

I haven't used msn Live for a while now, but I can remember that I encountered the same reconnecting issue when I tried it some time ago. I also found out a way to change setting to make it stop. The only thing is.... I can't remember and I don't have it installed at the moment. But I think you have answered your own question.
No doubt about it that this issue is decribed in at least one of the many threads. Try the search option, I'm sure it will be succesfull!
solved it by installing a new msn live version. looks like it was a bug...

O2 Atom upgrade to wm6 but wifi problem

Hi All,
I upgraded my O2 Atom to ATOMWM607WWE4PP. Everything is running fine
and this is really a good ROM. My Atom is working fast and lot of good features
of wm6 I am enjoying.
The only problem I have noticed about wifi. I am trying to enable this through
wifi manager but after trying 10 sec it could not make it on.
Any suggestion how to fix this ..

fix wifi via registry
first and foremost let me caution you in changing the registry, it could crash your system.
HKLM\System\State\Hardware
edit or create a dword Wifi. i think the value for "off" state is "1"
if you are a risk taker, try changing it to 3, 5 or 8. mine is set to 3, the wifi is on, if set to 8, it is connected. i hope this helps.
btw, after i was able to turn the wifi "on" via registry, i am able to turn on/off(toggle) wifi via wireless manager already. i don't turn on/off wifi via registry anymore. i only use the registry to see/verify the values. good luck and let us know how it turns out. thanks.
When I test the WIFI, I got "GetAdapterInfo() Failed".

dude, this could not be fix via registry, definitely. try to do self diagnotics(specifically the "WLAN Module Test" but i'm not sure) to see if the adapter/device is still functioning. your last resort would be to do hard reset or reflash. good luck bro...

you need a registry application. there a couple these around. i'm using the one that is build in dotfred taskmgr. its free try to google it for the latest version. good luck and oh btw, when you are at it already. the HKLM stand for "HKEY_Local_Machine". good luck...

hi makan07, i'll try my best to explain, once you are able or successful in turning the wifi on, you should be able to use wireless manager to turn the wifi on and off, you should not be depending on the registry anymore, once you get the wifi on. if you can't turn it off just like you mentioned then i think there is a problem already here, i'm sorry to say but you have to do a hard reset or a reflashing of your OS.
with regards to the searching, try the wifi utility interface/configuration/UI(user interface) found in your settings(connections group of applications). start>settings>connections, there should be a wifi utility icon there, then go to the "Site Survey" try to hit that then re-scan button. this should do the trick, if not, here is the last option but let me warn you first that messing with registry, as I have mentioned, could mess up your system; if you're a risk taker then try changing the registry value to 8 or 5 and see if the icon change to searching. just keep on trying to experiment on the registry values and see if somehthing works out. good luck...

it's good to hear that your wifi could be connected already, at the least. kindly share how you were able to connect it, other might have or encounter in the future the same problem. what value in the registry is needed for the wifi to be connected?
with regards to turning it off. i guess we are out of luck but have you tried other means other than the registry, like turning it off on the wifi settings program group, i mentioned before :
"...(connections group of applications). start>settings>connections, there should be a wifi utility icon there, then go to the "Site Survey" try to hit that then re-scan button..."
there is a menu that also turns the wifi on and off in this area. and other wifi applications.
lastly, i could send you a registry file that you can run directly by clicking/selecting/running or double clicking it, if you have a registry application like resco installed. the said file will update your wifi registry. let me know if your interested.

Hi,
Thanks for your help, I tried to change the registery for 3, It show that wifi

wifi working without sim card
Friends,
I have noticed one thing - When I took out the sim card from my mobile.
It is perfectly working with wifi - I can on it or off it and using internet without
problem.
When I put sim card in, it does not work despite of setting the registry key.
I have tried 2 or 3 different and face the same issue with it.
Then I upgraded the latest ROM from kumara last_final .. 6.1 and same issue.
Does that mean there is some problem with ROM ??

have u try to use original ROM for atom life?
Re:
I have not tried, Do you think this would resolve this problem ...
I am not aware if It works properly on O2 xda Atom ?
Hi Floks,
Can anyone please have a look and suggest something ..
Regards,
Js
Same problem with a brand new Atom Life. When I first used it, I didn't yet insert the SIM and the wifi was working great. But when I inserted the SIM, it couldn't connect to wifi. Moreover, it didn't show the first tab in the ``Wi-Fi'' control panel, labeled ``Wireless'' (the one where the list of available SSIDs and those with saved settings appears).
Changing the registry key doesn't work for me, maybe it is because our wifi network doesn't broadcast SSID and is WPA2-protected with pre-shared key...
Anyway, the only fix that works for me, is to reboot the device repeatedly until the wifi loads correctly. Most of the times it loads on the second try, mut sometimes it takes some 8 or 10 reboots... When it loads well at the boot time,
I even tried to look into the list of device drivers and services, none of them seemed relevant to wifi.
To sum up, I can't seem to find any handy solution to this problem and I'm becoming really desperate for it... Hope I won't have to turn it off very often so I don't have to reboot it like an idiot...

No 3G with cooked ROMs?

Hi Guys.
So I was finally able to get a cooked ROM on my Fuze using an older XP machine that I had. But now, after trying both ROMeOS and DCS, I'm not getting any 3G signal. What i do get at times is the hsdpa signal, but i don't actually receive it; none of the data services are working (internet, weather, youtube, etc.). Could someone please tell me how to get 3G on my Fuze?
EDIT: It seems like I am getting the HSDPA signal at times but its very tempermental
anyone have a solution?

In start>settings>phone>band do you have the auto in both drop menus on??
also try start>settings>connections>advanced network> in the HSDPA try to see which option is used. try to use 'enable HSDPA Only' or even disable it completely and see what happens.
had the same issue and this seemed to fix it.
Advanced Config Tool>menu>more settings>Comm manager - Add 3g to comms manager.
Open comms manager and switch 3g off > soft reset > switch 3g on > soft reset
Good luck
thanks ill try that out when i get a chance. what rom were you using?
EDIT: nvm saw it in your sig
did you run the network config wizard after flashing the rom?
it prompts (or detects) your country and operator and configures most things for you.
if it's not part of your cooked rom, look for it as a .cab
yea i ran the config but it still doesnt connect to 3g. I'm trying the suggested solution now
still not working....
I still cant run apps like cellular video and the youtube app. Youtube just wont load the vids, and CV gives me a message that says it's only supported to 3G phones. I really hope theres a solution to this since I really love ROMeOS but I want apps like youtube and CV
haha i give up. I officially ***king hate this. I feel like I spent 300 bucks on a phone that is perfectly engineered and has crap software on it. Im so agitated i can't even think straight. I'm really close to just getting rid of this phone and i dont even know.
Well... felt good to tell someone.
I am having the same problems. I am using an ATT Fuze and I flashed ROMeOS last night and now I cant to connect to the internet or use the youtube app via HSDPa/HSUPA, 3G, or Edge. I can use these applications if I turn on Wi Fi, but if I use cellular internet I get a big red sign that says "ERROR" and then followed by "the remote server refuses to perform the request. This address is not available". It also shows an H on the top bar if anyone was wondering. Any fix for this or just try a different ROM?
Update: I tried a new ROM and same thing. Does anyone have a solution? I am sure us two aren't the only ones with this problem!
I am getting pretty desperate, can anyone help?
same problem here, my area supports hsdpa but with a speedtest i have between 24 and 36kbit

go to start>settings>Connections>Advanced network>GPRS "make sure CHAP authenticaion is selected. that is what ATT network uses. then go to Start>Settings>Connections>Connections> select manage existing connections and then go to the proxy tab. make sure your remove both check marks and you should be good to go.
Wow, thank you HackMimic that worked! I tried everything I could think of and was about to go back to stock ROM just to use 3G, but now I can continue using flashed ROMS. To the original poster of this thread try the above and it should work as I had the exact same symptoms you described and now I am cruising along on HSDPA! Once again thanks HackMimic!
no problem. i had the same issue back in the day when the connection setup app first cam out i noticed that it always seem to set the GPRS Settings to PAP instead of CHAP which is needed for MMS and the net over here in america. also noticed issues with proxy selected. glad i could help.
Yea I tried HackMimic's fix but not directly from you . I was reading on how to configure skyfire and they said to do that, and what ended up happening is all of the sudden the youtube app worked and so did everything else. Regardless, thanks for the solution. I'm a little more amazed everyday by the wealth of knowledge on this forum

[CAB] [WM6.5, WM6.5.x] [HTC] Wi-Fi On Demand for Custom/Official Roms

After finding, that most of Custom Roms or new Manila 2.5 stock roms for many devices don`t have that feature enabled (e.x. Diamond2, HD2 or TP2), I did some research and came out with this little cab.
Cab attached will enable Wi-fi On Demand or "Turn on Wi-Fi automatically" in Comm Manager in Custom Roms (based on official wm 6.5 or wm6.5.x from htc) and new Stock Roms (wm6.5 or wm6.5.x)
Wi-Fi On Demand is a "service", that when needed will allow phone to activate and connect to Wlan first and use it instead of connecting to GPRS/3G straight away. In case when no defined/known Wi-Fi is found, then phone will connect to GPRS/3G. There`s no need to deactivate Wi-Fi connection, it will turn off after a while when device is suspended.
WARNING: Those are needed to be present in rom:
- HTC Application Service 1.14.1.0 or newer,
- Comm Manager 2.9.11.0 or newer.
This cab has no files inside, will take no space in memory. When asked, install in Device Memory and Soft-Reset after installing.
Feel free to try it, leave a feedback if its working for you, just remember it needs above service and Comm Manager.
UPDATE: Sometimes after manual soft-reset this service is deactivated, then just simply go to CommManager to activate. After normal Power Off/Power On cycle this service stays activated.
WARNING: Windows Live Hotmail/Messenger may activate Wi-Fi AND 3G/GPRS and will use 3G/GPRS connection. This is a quirk of Windows Live, not this service.
To avoid that, use excelent Dial-Up Enabler/Disabler for example.
UPDATE: There are some users reporting that on some custom roms this "service" is not working as expected. I`m unable to provide support in this situation. Contact your rom maker about the issue.
nice one mate.. will try it

HTC Application Service 1.14.1.0 or later has this functionality, but many times its not activated by cooks, so this cab simply fixes that. Services needed should be in the rom before you can use it, or it will simply not work.

Thanx Man!!!
You are the man and this now takes WM6.5.5 to the next level in my book! this was the missing feature that i missed the most from 6.5 to 6.5.5......
Looks like this precious tweak works only once in my ROM. I guess it's because of the service missing, is there something I can do?

Same problem in my Touch2 (Mega)...
Trying to explain better:
After a softreset if I start a program that needs Internet connection, the wifi starts automatically, so it's all OK. After a minute I don't need internet connection more, so I close wifi conn manually from che comm manager. After another minute I start a program that need Internet connection, but this time the wifi DOES NOT start automatically.
If I look in the comm manager (after the installation af this cab) I see that the wifi button text is changed, displaying "auto start wifi" (translated by me, my rom is in italian), but if I tap on it, wifi start immediately, not only if a program require connection...

So this service is working perfectly for you. Pay attention to bold text, if you close wifi connection manually in CommManager, not only you are closing wifi connection but switching off this service too, thats why it won`t start anymore. Simply DON`T close wifi connection manually!! It will close itself when device is suspended, then after you start another app which needs connection IT WILL connect to wifi.
When switched on manually it will always start wifi radio, its doing that by design.
Hope that helps.

It will work for every new device from htc based on wm.
If you have newer device with HTC Application Service 1.14.1.0 it will work fine (Diamond1, Diamond2, TP2, HD2, Touch2 confirmed)

Thanks for the reply!
Ok, now I understand: I have to revert to default the mod in the registry to not stop the wifi in standby
Hi glaucos! You got PM! Watch out..keeping wifi always on will drain your battery pretty fast and besides...it wouldn be a "on demand" behavior..
doesn´t work for me. i´m on valkyries 6.2 235007 rom on my touch pro 2. after softreset, there is no option at the commmanager.

I`m not familiar with this rom. Make sure you have HTC Application Service 1.14.1.0 or newer and CommManager 2.9.x.x or newer, then it should work.
I have HTCApplication_1_14_1_0 and CommManager_2_9_T_1 (which are present in the newest rom for Diamond2, with Manila 2.5) in my rom based on wm 6.5.x 23533 and this is working perfectly.
Just flashed the new stock ROM WM6.5 with Sence 2.5, and my Wi-Fi is always turning ON when I use the phone. With Sence 2.1 it only turns on when it was needed. In the CommManager, there is a new option: Turn Wi-Fi OFF (and it's ON by default). I guess the Wi-Fi will go auto off but is always ON. I download the app, and see if it will solve my issue, then I'll feedback. Hope it works in my ROM.
