Blackberry troubles - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo ROM Development

Hi
I am using AP 3.0 Dual rom, as c0rnholio posted. Made changes in the aku version as he described, except for me only works the bbconnect 4.0.0.97 (the .92 doesn't work)
I can syncron correctly internet accounts, but not enterprise server. I see in about of blackberry client that the information of the BES version is empty.
Everything works fine in the connection with my pc and the BB desktop configures and creates the blackberry account, but cannot send or receive mails. And no sync tasks, contacts, agenda and notes.
Has anybody an idea about where could be my trouble? I was thinking in a limitation of my BES for non bb devices, but I don't see any trouble in the connection with the remote bes server through the vpn from the bb desktop. It generates encryptation keys correctly.
My mail is lotus notes 7.x
thanks.

I don't know what to tell you.
What I do know isI seriously thought someone doped my Guinness when I saw 'Blackberry Troubles' in the Athena forum. Those are....I don't know two different galaxies. You're lucky you didn't do some serious damage posting that here. YOu could have..... well, nevermind, i'M a bit tipsy. Maybe you could have named it somethign different.
P.S. Doesn't my avatar make you thirsy?

I agree with you, times is dangerous to be open but we are a community: each time they move we will go over it...
Going back to my problem I think is a limitation or the policy of the BES Server: if the pin is from a device non in policy will not accept or a problem of security level managed by bb on pda, lower than in bberry devices. In resume, looks no solution.

If you had a previous Blackberry device and now you are changing to an athena with BB connect on it all you need to do is ask the BES administrator to regenerate your account. Then the new PIN will be admited by the BES.
That is what I did although I'm using X7500 with WM5 original ROM and BB Connect 2.x but should be true for your case too.

transfering files to a friends pc

If you want to give a friend a file off my XDA, what is the easiest way to do it, do you have to install active sync, it`s a bit of a pain keeping the active sync cd in your pocket, just on the off chance that you want to transfere a file..if you know what i mean.....top site
Infrared...
yeah that works well, but most desktop pc`s dont have and infa-red port, so then i`d have to carry one of those around, its a shame you cant just use the direct cable connection on windows
Well in fact you could, but I don't know how to set it up... and you would need a Null modem driver on the Windows box... not worth trying
well.......ir thingie or a cable.....I don't want to carry around either one of them.
You can always let your friend build the ir thingie.....
http://www.infraredport.de/index.html shows you how to. I did that and it works smoooooooooothly for just a few euro's. It's a German site but has english pages.
Have you considered sending an email? I have heard rumours that the XDA is able to do that
Robert
send a file on gprs, i`m not made of money you know
hehehehe

Newbie, Bluetooth GPS and other Questions

Is it a bad thing, I ordered the HTC TYTN from my Service Provider and I don't even have it yet and I am looking for tweaks, hacks and accessories.
I found this forum from Howard Forums. The Wiki for my phone (on this site) helped me tremendously. So thank you to all the contributors of that.
Well my first order of business will be getting Streets and Trips Mobil running on it and for that I am going to need a GPS. From what I gather reading other threads a wired GPS is a bad idea if not futile. So Bluetooth it is. I did a quick Ebay search for a few models I saw mentioned here, and came up with some very wide ranges in prices. I am leery of buying a "cheap" one from Ebay as I have made that mistake before thinking I am getting a great deal only to find out what I bought was flaky at best and junk at worst. So I am looking for some feedback from other people running Bluetooth GPS units on there Hermes type phones.
Ok next question,
Rom, Burnt, Fried, Baked, Cooked, I think they are coming to make me away he ha ha, to the funny farm........ (you have to be older (30-40) to get the joke.
Windows Media 6 sounds awesome, however I don't really want to brick my phone on my first tweak. What is the safest way to update from WM5 to WM6. I am on Rogers AT&T in Canada and would like to maintain most if not all of the features that will come with the phone. From what I understand the Rogers Branded phones have some "unique" registry settings that could be altered when you update to WM6. I am willing to loose them if I have to, in order to update, however if there is a way to keep them I would really prefer it. Specifically the new Named Caller ID. (displays the name of people calling you even if you don't already have them in your phone book)
What should my first tweaks be, are there any really good "to die for" apps out there......
My first love in life is (my wife) however for this topic lets just say cars and driving, hence why I want streets and trips.
My second love is computers and modding. I am also into movies and video's, so big storage will be a must. I want to be able to bring along a couple gig of music and video's with me.
I hope I have not driven anyone away with so many questions. If you can answer even one of my questions that would be helpful, if you can answer them all YOU ARE A GOD.
Thanks in Advance for listening to a newbie post.
first off.. welcome to the forums.. believe me when i tell you youll have tons of fun on new your toy..
secondly, i think you should take time knowing your new toy before you delve into tweaking or playing with it...
thirdly, read up and not until then and coupled with you being comfortable with your device should you consider starting messing with it..
HERE IS A GOOD START....
OF COURSE YOU SHOULD NOT MISS THIS ONE..
hope this helps you for a start and good luck.
oopss. . .forgot addressing your subject line.. (got engrossed reading the body of your post that i do not think mentioned anything about the subject line )
i would suggest you look into BT-818, its small, compact has long battery life (32 hrs. and 32 satellites) and the battery can be replaced by you. i know a lot of members here will recommend something smaller but for me i think being practical without sacrificing functionality is essential..
Thank You Bapski for the quick reply, I have spent the last 2hrs reading through those pages and I don't think I have even scratched the surface of it all. Finding the FTP site link is going to save me a lot of time searching for files.
I hear alot about Black Magic, and CID unlocking. I came across a thread about how to unlock the phone without having to really do much. I guess this is a pretty simple procedure?
Well I have lots more reading to do thanks again for the links. (And I thought I covered most of it in the Wiki)
Well the phone arrived today.
I gave it a charge for about 5hrs and have been kinda playing with it.
Edited because I figured out how to fix my contact issues.
Now next up is upgrading to WM6. I really want to do this upgrade before I spend hours learning and tweaking WM5 which sounds like it will be a waste of time. However I am terrified of bricking the phone. I have downloaded the CID Unlocker and although it sounds as easy as hell, I want to make sure that the unlocker won't kill my phone. What numbers should I get off the phone to verify all this.
Are there any version numbers off of the phone that would / should be added to a database for anyone else to compare with older phones. I skimmed over a database that listed some phones with problems and what phones had what installed. This is a Rogers Branded HTC TYTN phone.
I am not a complete Tech Moron, I just don't know anything about Phones. (I run an Apache Web Server as well as an FTP Server and a separate Media Server)
If anyone has suggestions or thoughts about the safest way to update the phone with the least amount of risk, I would be really interested in hearing about it. I am going to do the update at some point its just a matter of me being comfortable enough with the software to do the updates.
P.S. I found a local supplier for a Bluetooth GPS for $79 which I will be picking up next weekend. Not sure how your board posts URL's so here it is straight up. http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=23763&vpn=IBLUE737&manufacture=i-Blue

safest way is to change your bootloader if your going to flash... its pretty much simple if you have a stable computer and dont pull out your USB while your flashing.... if you dont have enought confidents yet, read more about your phone....
best safety precaution we do here is to install hard spl 2.10.. with this installed, it is said youd be able to avoid bricking (unbrick) your phone if something goes wrong.
safest and fool proof way is to read MRVANX GUIDES
follow all instructions to the letter and youll never go wrong.. i know thats how i did it.. just choose whatever ROM there is on the guides for a start and then once you get the hang of it, you can try other ROM's as you please..
Ok my first ever change to the phone, Hard SPL 2.10 v7 has now been installed on the phone. Followed the guids exactly and worked like a charm. I have not ran any "unlocking software" yet. I guess that is my next step and then loading the official HTC WM6 update.
Yee Haw, I am rocking out now.......
Ok I did the Bootload update.
Then followed the guides again
I updated the Radio and then updated to Fara's Super Clean WM6.
Dang I was all paranoid for nothing, most of this is just click through and go.
There was a few times the Phone asked me questions that were not listed on the guides, but I think I just said, Yes Allow every time it asked anything and all went well.
congratulations... good to hear everything worked out well...
congratulations.. good thing your upgrade went well...
I updated to radio ver 1.41 and am having issues with network connection. GPRS does not want to work and when I am connected to my home wireless router it is spotty at best. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. As well as the range seems to be drastically reduced.
Any suggestions?

try 1.50........
Thanks, I will try that.
if that dont work try 1.50.10/1.51
I installed Radio version 1.50 and everything is or at least seems to be working great. Lots of things that I am tweaking in WM6.
2 things,
When I had the Rogers WM5 installed I had a a type of Windows Messenger Installed locally that worked well, and now it is gone. Where Do I re-download that from. I have done some searching and only came up with a web based messenger for Mobil phones that loads in I.E.
Next question How do I do batch text messaging. On my old Motorola Razr I could simple compose a message open up my contacts and then go through and check off all the names I wanted to send it to and hit send and it would send to all the people. However in the TYTN I have to add each person separately.
Is there a way to send batch text message with the TYTN?
Ya know I think this thread has moved far enough off topic that it is time that I just start a new thread in diffrent section for all my "newbie questions"
I would like to offer a huge thanks to all that helped me out the past few days learning a new piece of tech. I am still going to have a lot of questions as time goes on. So you can keep your eyes out for me in other Hermes sections. If anyone ever has a car question drop me a PM.
For a Bluetooth GPS you seriously cant go wrong with this:
http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Blueto...9?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1188928696&sr=8-2
Garmin mobile 10.
Its small, very small.. easy to use. It uses garmins software on your phone. Its not very expensive. has at least a 22hour battery.
It checks traffic when planning routes.. it can tell you gas prices for nearby gass stations, you can check weather, tell it to avoid almost anything.. its just amazing.
Just to update this thread, I did finally buy a Bluetooth GPS. Final price was $61 including shipping. Its a JRT-29 the website, http://www.gpswindow.com/en/picture.asp?idtype=JRT28 kinda sucks, but the unit itself is really nice. About the size of an old slide out tray matchbox. 42ch and works perfect. Came with a car charger USB Cable and software to use it on a PC as well as a mobil phone. (did not need the software for my phone, just my PC)
Thanks again for everyones help.

Remote Vista

Sorry, I'm new with WM6. One feature that got me interested and buying the X7500 Advantage was for the remote desktop. I recall reading a thread about that and was able to download WM6 RDP-Finster. However, I wasn't able to get it to work till now. Please advise on an error message stating that my computer is not set up for remote desktop. Please help me out here as buying the advantage most features didn't come in as handy as I thought it would be. One would be, the Tomtom GPS, one free map, and how sad, I live in Canada, meaning, they don't offer the free map here. Anyways, back to the topic, please advise on how to get remote desktop (I'm currently using Vista Home Premium) to work on my Advantage.
You could also try using vnc. I have successfully vnc'ed into to computers from my AT&T 8525. Just search up vnc mobile.
And I think there is a free program called pocket streets or something. I don't know if it does gps, but you could give it a try.

I suspect your problem is nothing to do with the Athena or WM6 - it is to do with Vista Home Premium. If you are trying to connect from your Advantage to your Vista machine it won't work as Vista Home Premium does not allow incoming remote desktop (i.e. terminal server) connections - another example of MS cutting down its own software.
There is apparently a solution but I haven't tried it:http://www.unet.fi/fransblog/2007/08/30/enable-remote-desktop-connection-on-vista-home-premium/
Yup, just use VNC. Install it, set your password, open a hole in your firewall for the right port (or ports, if you enable both Java viewer and direct connection). Done.
As for the maps - just buy an aftermarket product. I couldn't stand relying on the data connection for map info since cell service can be spotty in my area, so I bought Delorme's mapping software. It comes with full North American maps. There are other options on the market, too.
I can't begin to explain how much better and more fluid this software is at remote desk top

looks like a really good pogram but mot want A free solution and abiet most vista pc's are preloaded with either home
basic or home premium that leaves you to a free solution like the vista premium hack mentioned above or VNC. also the aspect that the t-mobile wm6 official rom seemed to be missing RDP was a let down when realising that the original wm5 rom had it in there was quite dissapointing heheh

new reg key for tether tracking?

I have just updated to the new rom and noticed that the registry key we normally delete in order to prevent sprint from tracking tethering has changed.
The key name is the same (HKLM\comm\InternetSharing\Extension... However, rather than pointing to a Dll the key has a hex value.
Does anyone know if this is still a valid way to prevent tracking of tethering with Internet Sharing?
-Matt
I'm interested in this as well...once I figure out how to tether haha
Sure wish I had known about the tracking bfore I started using wmwifirouter.....
I am sure someone skilled will help with this inquiry.
I've read a lot of threads and I think I've only seen a couple of people who were charged. I think WMwifirouter might be pretty safe. The real problem is probably with the built in version. Hopefully we'll figure this one out to make sure.
I updated to DCD 3.0.0 last night and can no longer use WMWifiRouter. It worked in the previous versions but now every time I try it says the remote connection has been disconnected.
i customized sprint 3.5 yesterday for telus. The keys that we used to delete were still there. ( including the one tha point to rilphone.dll )
armstrom are you running stock sprint rom or something else?

What version of wifirouter are you using?
use a reg editor and search rilphone first entry that comes up will be a dll delete that. next search multinai and change value to 0 in that same internetsharing key you will also see two keys one is check profile and the other is something that obviously bad i cant remember cause i already deleted them all otherwise i would have given exact locations if anyone has problems i will reflash so that i can give exact paths. This is what i did because i had one long data session then the new rom would no longer let me tehter sprint had blocked me so it turned out rilphone and multi nai were culprit but checkprofile also allows phone to check if you have pam on your acount so safer to delete it dont want any red flags sorry for any typos was in hurry

my post above will fix that but one thing id if you were already disabled look right around the rilphone and multinai key and their will be addition key that says disable internet sharing change to 0 and then in the winmodem i beleive you have to change internet sharing to 1 cause these are added when you try to tether without reg hacks also only delete the one rilphone.dll in winmodem do not i repeat do not delete any others.
Let me get this straight, we're not allowed to post links to warez, but we can post directions to steal tethering???
Should we also prevent people from posting custom ROMs and kitchens or custom unlocking tools? A vast majority of the posts on this entire forum relate to modifying our phones to perform in a way other than the manufacturer/OEM intended. Do you think it's moral to load an unofficial WM6 rom on a phone that came with WM5? I can guarantee you that your provider probably would rather have you buy a new phone with WM6 than upgrade the old one you have. The posting of "warez" links is a much more cut and dry issue.

One causes a direct monetary loss to the provider, one does not. That should be a cut and dry enough to understand.
I don't want to take this too far off topic because the precident is clearly set as numerous posts have been made on this topic without so much as a peep from the moderators. However, I take exception to your last statement. Do you honestly think that the Windows Mobile OS is free? Any time you install a version of OS that did not ship with your phone or that was not provided through your phone manufacturer you are stealing that OS. Period.
Secondly... lets say sprint had chosen to cripple the recently unlocked GPS functionality such that only the sprint navigation software would work with it (for a fee). Lets also assume someone in this community had found a way to modify the GPS driver in such a way as to make it usable by any nav. software. Would you honestly NOT install such a modification because you're avoiding paying the provider for the inflated navigation "fee"?
Either way, I would rather keep this on topic and let the moderators do their job... If they see a problem with this post I will be more than happy to refrain from asking any further questions.

Being an IT admin, I am fully aware of licensing re: the OS and my responses are:
1) When I purchased the phone I purchased a license of WM6
2) When MS released WM 6.1 they offered it as an upgrade free of charge
Certain manipulation and reverse engineering does violate the license. Redistribution violates the license. But it still remains that I did at least pay for a copy of WM6 and while I may be crossing some line where the licensing is concerned, I have at least paid for it.
Sprint has not crippled the GPS functionality, so that argument is moot.

Honestly, this is just something I realized lately. All these forums have these strict rules about posting warez, etc...but they don't do anything about the theft of tethering (a pay service) from the carriers.
Manipulation and upgrading our OS does not directly cause the carrier to loose money in any way....(except for returns of bricked phones.)

simply because their is no copyright infringement of intellectual property simply a guide thats it and it is also arguable that we are paying for unlimited data and some phones tether out of the box now lastly someone who tethers on regular basis large amounts should only expect their provider to catch on and also they can limit our traffic with caps but to tell us what we can do is another thing but that just gets into a whole other argument.

what about commercial apps like PDANet which can tether on a sprint phone with no modifications at all, other than installing and using the app? if carriers felt this was a big monetary hit they would probably be suing over it
I kinda want to know the answer to the OPs question...
Internet sharing seems to work (with ICS) and I remember someone saying a while ago that tethering cant be detected by sprint on a mogul, period.
I am just curious to know how sprint would release a rom with ICS that works WITHOUT any mods or additional programs to tether undetected when you dont have a phone as modem plan.
I was trying out this method here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11146&highlight=Wireless+Modem+Mogul
But after finding out my gps wouldn't work I went back to the original settings.
stealing tether? what are you talking about? it's not like you're stealing bandwith, stealing it would be using data without paying for it. if i tether its because i know i have and pay for unlimited bandwidth.

Bluesnarfing

Does anyone know how to do it on the Droid?

Nope. Not yet.
I don't see why it matters to anyone why someone wants this.
I want this too. I don't have to explain to anyone as to why I want it. Because, it is absolutely none of your business. If you don't know how to implement it, then don't post.
Lol. This is a public forum. Of course you don't have to explain why you want something. Equally, if someone who could help doesn't want to, because they suspect you're up to no good, they don't have to justify their actions either, let alone help you. Blessed be.

Touché. I'll admit it. The main reason I want this is to mess with my friends. Nothing actually detrimental. Same reason I like sms bombers, and caller id fakers.
But still, this would be great to add on to my list
This would be so awesome..just from a security standpoint to be able to show and explain to friends and family to not there guards down when it comes to cyber theft and to turn off your radios when not in use
I never quite understand answers like this. This forum is for the exchange of information, not personal opinions. People that think their some kind of 'ethics police' need not be on this type of site. This site is for the exploration, hacking and development of our phones. Rooting & custom firmware is frowned upon by security researchers and manufacturers alike, but because your into it, it's morally correct?

Yep, one man's "not needed" is another man's necessity. This is no less needed than say someone thinking they need a ps3 controller (or wiimote) working with their phone, but no one really complains about that.
here's a very legitimate reason for you so if you know how PM me
Hi,
A friend of mine has an older mobile with a broken touchscreen - the phone no longer has a SIM or a RAM card and is in "Music Sync" mode when it connects to a PC via USB.
They are currently in a court case and need to get their old SMS's off the broken phone - all the "forensic" mobile software out there (from $500 up to $5000!!!) require that the phone is in PC-Suite (or PC-Sync) mode. This can't be changed on the phone as the touchscreen doesn't work.
The only way to get to the SMS's is by Bluesnarfing, so if you know of a PC program or a WinMo 6.5 program that will let me access their phone PM me.
Thanks.
Why is there always that one person that offers no assistance, takes up bandwidth questioning your motives...
For those that don't know:
"Bluesnarfing is the theft of information from a wireless device through a Bluetooth connection, often between phones, desktops, laptops, and PDAs. This allows access to a calendar, contact list, emails and text messages. Bluesnarfing is much more serious in relation to Bluejacking, although both exploit others’ Bluetooth connections without their knowledge. Any device with its Bluetooth connection turned on and set to “discoverable” (able to be found by other Bluetooth devices in range) can be attacked. By turning off this feature you can be protected from the possibility of being Bluesnarfed. Since it is an invasion of privacy, Bluesnarfing is illegal in many countries."
