rooting x10a issue - XPERIA X10 Android Development

Ok rooted my phone yesterday and after step 2 i checked my firmware and says 020 not 023 do i need the firmware some place. I am using the lastest 023 rooting instructions

If you got 020 Firmware you cannot use the latest rooting guide because it does not contain a 020 update it only contains a 023 update.
So please check if you switched accidently in the wrong folder or smth
Regards

I can do the rooting no problem. The first step brings my phone 016 then second step to 020. I updated my phone a week ago to 020 so maybe a file somewhere that uses sony ericcson update software

Obviously, it's user error, since everybody can get 023 following the instruction and download the correct files.
delete the folder and download again to try.

[Q] Hero back from repair - Which root method to use?

Hi,
I recently received my phone back from HTC repair. It's an unbranded hero, the software on it is :
Firmware v : 2.1-update1
Baseband 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.11
Software : 3.32.405.1
It wants me to download the following OTA update: "system upgrade 3.32.405.2 (5.87mb)"
I had no problems rooting the phone the long way from 1.5 when I first got it, but after I sent it back to htc the first time (unresponsive lower touchscreen) I tried to use the oneclick root method unsuccessfuly (it said root successful but it said permission denied when I typed "su" etc), and then the phone became essentially bricked when I allowed it to dl the OTA update. I don't want to make the same mistake again!
Which root method would you guys recommend I use this time?
Many thanks!
1click root mate it works on all versions of the hero
You can also follow this guide to root it manually.
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/s...o-Root-The-2.1-RUU-or-OTA-Update-For-The-Hero
I think I'd prefer to do something other than the 1 click root after what happened last time!
The villain method says its for 2.1 ROM RUU - is this what they will have used at the repair centre? Does it tie in with the sotware version I posted in the OP? Or should I use an RUU and then follow the method to be sure?
I've been without my phone for 7 weeks now, just don't want to mess it up again! But equally I dont want to be stuck on an unrooted phone
I believe Unrevoked works very well for extremely easy Hero rooting? Not used it myself but heard good things.
Moved to Q&A as not development
Im in the same boat as you. when my phone was returned it was
Firmware v : 2.1-update1
Baseband 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.11
Software : 3.32.405.2
Looking to root now. Cant decide on a rom or a method. Any other suggestions?

This root method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726118) is the one I prefer (yes, I posted it, but it seems to be easiest method if you have ADB set up, or follow the guide to enable it)
Rooted as per pulser's guide, all is good
FYI iknorr I DID NOT install the OTA update I mentioned in my OP
Many many thanks to pulser, the rest of the villain guys for the roms, and to btdag for his guide on taming adb on windows 7
thanks for the suggestion & info...
Ill give it a go tommorrow i think. Ill post an update.

I used pulsers method dude and its been cool since. It might take 3-4 times to take so make sure your chosen Rom is on SD ready first.

[Q] Please Answer + Read ?

Hi How to update from Sony Ericsson Xperia X10i firmware 1.6 to the latest firmware when the procedures to do it r absolutely STUPID I mean has any 1 got a video that May help me to update to the latest firmware .
Thks in Advance .
The instructions are fine mate. I'm no developer by any means, but i'ved managed to make 3 updates following different instructions. Just follow them word for word and dont rush it.
I agree with above, the procedure is very simple and atm you cannot upgrade past 1.6
Hi, to upgrade your build (Settings > About Phone > Build Number) R2BA026 being the latest, just download SEUS and follow instructions and you will have the latest official build and then to root, download Universal AndRoot from the market, click on root and you are done....
To change from 1.6 to 2.1 you'll have to wait (hopefully) a few weeks...

[Q] Does anyone have a UK 2.1 rom?

I have a x10 mini pro locked to 02 (uk). I mistakenly thought I would be getting 2.1 so I went to update my phone. It took about 30 minutes and all I have is a load of bloatware / unrooted device running 1.6. I then rooted my phone again and gathered I must debrand the phone to update to 2.1. The problem is debrand is not working, as I think Sony patched this in the stuipid update I downloaded. As I can't debrand my phone now, how can I get 2.1? Does anyone have a 2.1 UK Rom that I could use to update? How would I do that? I don't really want to download nordic.
My current build is as follows:
when opening the build.prop file in notepad, it says:
ro.product.name=U20i_1237-8252
Also when flipping the back off the phone and taking the battery out the sticker reads:
SI 1238-0200

The list of all the codes can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826875
UK Generic for X10 mini pro is:
U20i WORLD-1-8 CDF1238-0199 1238-0204 Customized UK/Black
(the bold bit is the firmware code)
So, make a backup of your build.prop, and edit these lines:
Code:
ro.semc.version.cust=****-****
ro.product.name=XXXX_****-****
(where the *s are your current code)
to read
Code:
ro.semc.version.cust=1238-0199
ro.product.name=U20i_1238-0199
Hopefully that should work...
Thanks for your reply. I have make a copy of the build.prop and made the alterations in the code. The problem is how do I replace the build.prop? I tried following the instructions in the debrand tutorial and it said something like access denied - read only file (or somehting like that) I have a rooted phone so can't understand this?
It's ok I finally managed to overwrite the build.prop with root explorer. For some reason the command prompt method was not workin.
1. Root the x10 mini
2. Obtain the relevant build.prop file and copy to the sd card using windows or mac os x
3. install root explorer on the phone
4. open root explorer and copy the build.prop file on the sd card
5. Navigate to /system and you will see the existing build.prop file
6. Click paste and it will want to overwrite the current build.prop, click yes or overwrite
Thanks for the build prop info, as I edited my file and everything works! I now have 2.1. Thanks

This firmware code did not work for my X10 Mini Pro. SEUS downloaded back the v1.6 firmware for me.

I don't think the 2.1 update for the mini/pro has been released on the UK version yet.

it has, I have it. you need generic UK CDF in the build.prop to get it, see above. If you don't have those numbers, don't expect to get it anytime soon
I edited the build prop the the codes supplied and it worked perfectly. Just download this version and it should work.

[Q] Odin V4.28 check image files !!

I've been trying to downgrade the firmware on my Samsung Galaxy Europa to I5500XWJP9.
The reason is because I decided to get the latest update for my I5500 using Kies and after the latest firmware installed I was unable to root my phone using Universal Androot or z4root.
I followed the tutorial mentioned here showthread.php?t=781149, add http://forum.xda-developers.com/ to the beginning.
Downloaded the I5500XWJP9 Android 2.2 - 2011 January (Europe) Firmware from the same thread, got up to step 7 and then Odin displayed the message check image files !!
Does anyone know a fix because I desperately want to root my phone again.
