I just recently rooted my Verizon Galaxy S4 and swiftly installed Rom Manager. I have used ROM manager in the past before I owned an iPhone when the Moto Droids were popular. Upon installing I flashed the recovery over to CWM - However, when I reboot into recovery I still receive the default stock options. I even purchased the CWM Touch recovery to see if that would work, sadly it did not.
I am stuck as to what to do here, I have googled the problem and cannot seem to find a cure. I can not do anything with CWM - When I click backup current ROM it simply reboots into the stock recovery.
If anyone can help me with this issue I would be extremely appreciated

Did you remember to go to Rom Manager > Recovery Setup > Click ClockworkMod Recovery (Under INSTALL OR UPDATE RECOVERY) > Then click on the Samsung Galaxy S4 (Verizon).
Yes, since that is the only way to download and install the recovery that is what I did...
You might want to email the developer or get a mod to move this thread to the Q&A forum.

I was able to flash it with no issues.
Do you mind telling me exactly what you did (even rooting wise) - I used some compiled package that was on droid life I believe. It had all the tools compiled and was the closest thing to a one click without being one click. I think it even attempted to flash the recovery. However, that is how I rooted my device. I didn't flash another rom. Still on the stock rom.
I just rooted the device. Switched to SuperSU, restored all my programs via Titanium Backup. Then I flashed CWM.

I have read conflicting posts about this but is your bootloader unlocked? I read that the bootloader was unlocked before the phone was even released - Then I read somewhere else that the Verizon bootloader was super locked down and not cracked yet. Obviously, you would need some bootstrap or the bootloader unlocked before the device would even be able to use a custom ROM. Did you flash the phone to get root, or did you use all kinds of different tools to do so?

That's the same method I used but I didn't unlock the bootloader. I just did the root them installed the recovery from the Play Store.

Please read about loki in the development forum. The bootloader is not unlocked and unlock is not needed to flash roms or recoveries.

I will read about loki - maybe when I read about loki this will be explained, however I was always under the impression that in order to install custom ROMs you have to unlock the bootloader. I know that a bootloader or bootstrap is what tells your device what operating system to boot to and if it is locked this prevents you from loading a custom ROM. If I have this all wrong, would someone care to explain? You can use technical explanations as I will most likely be able to understand what you mean.

reading about loki clears this up. It's simply (yet sophisticatedly) tricks the aboot into thinking the rom passes the checksum that is physically embedded into the phone and proceeds to boot the custom rom. The boot loader itself is still locked, but is bypassed.
The only problem with this is they can release an update to patch the sequence in which the checksum is done so that it cannot be loaded over itself.
My problem still remains - Clockwork Manager is not working.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Am I supposed to install Loki? Because I never did that, I was under the impression that rom manager would do that.

Do a stock restore. Then root again. Start over.

I cleared the Clockwork Mod data and also uninstalled and reinstalled the app and now it is working Guess it was just a fluke!
Is there a way to dynamically load/use a custom recovery on an Andoid phone (generally, any phone) without actually having to overwrite the phone's stock recovery? For example, by booting to stock recovery, flashing a zip file that will start up CWM/TWRP so you can use it temporarily, but stock recovery is still there and when you reboot the phone it will still be there? Sort of like using a Linux live cd.
Because I figure someone will probably ask, I'm asking about this because I have a phone that I want to get into that is protected by a pattern lock. I haven't examined it yet, but I am strongly expecting:
- No root
- No custom recovery
- No ADB debugging enabled
I know I can bypass the pattern lock from CWM/TWRP (rm /data/system/gesture.key)...but I would prefer to not have to do an overwrite of the recovery partition if it can be avoided. And whether or not this ends up being needed for this phone, it will be good to know for future reference.

Only recoveries like that are along the lines of SafeStrap, but is device specific and you already have to be rooted and booted into the OS to install that one. So, for what you need, no.

Actually, after randomly stumbling across some articles tonight...it appears that you can. At least on some phones, some of the time, with "fastboot boot recovery.img."

Ah. I didn't think of that because usually you have to unlock the bootloader to do that, which on most phones also wipe them, void the warranty, and often leave some kind of marker that would be obvious. But it depends on the phone still. And it's not uncommon for those things to be disabled on updates too. Also, Samsungs don't have fastboot at all, so that wouldn't be an option for any of them.
My phone boot loader is unlocked .installed twrp but I want to use safestrap. I like custom rom but only for tweaking .. so I wanna still use stock rom for normal use.as far as I am read, the only way is safestrap but can't be installed on my samsung galaxy note 3. So is there anyway I can achieve this?? Please. Tell me if possible. I would appreciate it.or is there any other way for using multi rom (2nd rom on sd card or internal) ?? Model no. Sm-n900. Looks like you are out of luck. Doesn't seem like any developers have taken it upon themselves to get any dual or multi-boot options working. Only thing would be just do to nandroids to switch between. Not the best option, but better than no option.

I thought it is possible cuz even on locked bootloaders its possible. So why not on unlocked ones.if any developer, think of this try to make this it can be easily done. I think...
Sure, theorectically it's possible as there have been a handful of Samsung devices that can dual boot with the help of a custom kernel, but I couldn't find anything, here or otherwise. that they have for the N3.
So far my device is magisk rooted and unlocked, with a few run of the mill tweaks here and there. Is anyone aware of this device supporting custom recoveries after unlocking? I suspect TWRP might work with minimal modification if any, but I haven't yet tried to flash anything beyond magisk and figured I would ask for other people's experiences here before I attempt to do so.

Somebody help i also have a new phone samsung a11 and successfully rooted it with magisk unlocked bootloader and rom that i found on sammobile (same model same CSC) and i want to also know if its possible getting the TWRP on a magisk rooted device without having any trouble

Got any recomendations for getting shell access on a phone that doesn't boot normally? That's about the only use I have for twrp, its ability to be fastboot booted without an install.

That won't help on a system that has boot issues.
there was a custom recovery ( lineage recovery i think) that came with a custom rom. i was reading about the rom a few weeks back(forget where), but the developer would not release the recovery separately.
so really there is no reason why TWRP or some other custom recovery could not be developed.
but with the lack of roms on XDA and limited custom roms elsewhere, i feel that the pixel 6 will have very very little support.

Only thing I ever really used it for was a nandroid
I have a question that is probably really stupid. Twrp and other custom recoveries allow installing custom roms, staticos and the like are out. How do they do it without a custom recovery?

You push it as a zip file on fastboot. They're is dotos, deep, statixos, grapheneos, protons, crdroid etc for device
So basically bypassing the recovery altogether.
twrp lets you flash your device without needing a pc.
not to mention backup , on device formatting. amoung very many other useful tools

The feature I miss most is adb and having access to the decrypted file system. Decryption was always a problem for twrp; I used to unset my phone unlock method to get around that.

I miss having the ability to do a complegte image of your phone. Comes in handy when you get stuck in a boot loop and have to do a factory reset. Is there any other program that can do a full backup like TWRP?
I really do not see the need for a backup of andoid on the Pixel 6.
Backup your data.
There are several ways now days to restore the Pixel 6 with Android 12 and above.
adb and fastboot are your friends.
Kernel manager apps have a flash tool built into them.

none of the ways you mention are possible with only a pixel6 and nothing else.
i cant tell you how many time when i was away for vacation or on a trip where i have flashed a rom on my S7. even a few times when some new software borked my phone and i could boot to recovery and RECOVER my device.
you can go to the custom kernel posts here and look at how many people have soft bricked their phone in April with a bad kernel. with a TWRP recovery they could have flashed a backup and never left their chair.
how can anyone say that more tools to fix things is in anyway a bad thing.
