[Q] Confirmation Of SD Card Before Purchase - 7 Mozart General

I am torn between the HD7 and the Mozart for my WP7 device and a big factor is the ability to upgrade storage.
I know the HD7 has a card slot within the phone now thanks to some xda users testing over the last few days but I think I would prefer the Mozart if I was able to do the same.
Has anyone been able to confirm the presence of the slot if they have a device? Either visually or by booting into bootloader mode which I think would tell you the manufacturer of any installed card?
I'm more than happy taking on the disassembly as long as I know for sure there is a card in there when I take out a new contract.
Thanks!

There probably is one in there somewhere but given the construction of the Mozart is would be very difficult to get at. I don't know how to get the Mozart into bootloader mode otherwise I would check that for you. The closest I got was a screen which seemed to be some form of recovery mode asking me to connect to a computer.

Yeah the body is a bit daunting but I'm sure it can be done.
From memory bootloader mode is done by pressing power & volume down while the phone is connected to a PC - would be hugely appreciated if you could give it a shot.
Thanks

Just tried that and got:
SD SANDISK 7580MB Class0

So there IS an 8GB Sandisk card in there.
Awesome, thanks for doing that mate - greatly appreciated!

I don't get why they didn't just charge us £20 more and give us 16GB

I really hope somebody figures out a way to get at the card : /

It won't be me unfortunately, after trying out both devices on a Sharepoint/Exchange setup the HD7's screen won out for me in the end.

Waoo, so we could change our sd card?
And put 16gb class 6?
Because, if this is a class 0 sd card...I understand why loading game take so much time on the Mozart... Why the hell did the put a class 0?
I hope to be able to swap it soon!

My htc mozart (tmobile germany) has 16gb

Is there really such a thing as class 0, or could that just mean unknown?
The omnia 7 uses normal flash memory and it also shows up as class 0.

Class 0 is used to refer to unrated cards, which could mean below class 1 or just unknown.

It's true!
In fact, class 0 just means we don't know what it is...
However, I hope we will be able to swap this 8go card...soon!!

yes me too, but for the moment I can't find how do disassembly my mozart to find if I can change sd card.

I can see it being next to impossible. The aluminium unibody encases the entire front and continues around the major part of the back. I highly doubt you will just be able to "slip" it off.

Mozart has an SD Card and is upgradeable
I upgraded my Mozart today to a 16GB card I had lying around. Not too complicated but involves a fair bit of dismantling and going through a void sticker.
I posted an "how to" article here on my blog.
Cheers
Andy

my rough guess is that might be many problems:
- broken SD card slot
- broken SD card (in that case rather not possible)
- badly managed flash to XDA (which might be the reason so's selling it over eBay)
- many other things
to eliminate most items listed above you might consider:
- trying few other SD cards
- formatting them as FAT16 elsewhere prior to putting into SD slot of XDA
- if a/m do not any good .... try flashing the unit again with newer ROM available from http://www.yorch.net/
- if that does not help .... consider checking whether SD card slot is not broken (which I do not know how) - and then possibly return to the seller from eBay
hope that helps - regards - monika

Hello!
Since the last weekend I have a MDA too...
Speaking in the terms of xda-developers it is quite virgin...
But I have the same problem:
I just tried to use a sd (128MB) and a mm (256MB) card.
The sd card makes my device reseting all the time and the other tells me about a not known device... I have to enter a name.
But it won't recognize the chips...
Why? Could it be, that they are formatted by a pocket pc with WM2003? Mine is still using the original 2002.
Thanx for help, because I want to use the cardslot and I have to buy a card, so I want to be sure which or if it is a defect of the slot to let it be repaired...
Greetz,
Marcel
my sdcard would not behave the sdcard reader refused to format it
then i used

I fully agree with the above comment that softwinter soft would do the job, although I used to have problems with my previous Lexar SD card ... softwiner soft tested the card and everything seemed to be fine although it was not ... strange :?

fake or dodgy micro sd?

Hello,
I bought a 2GB Sandisk microSD today from a shop.
Upon inserting it into my hermes, it got stuck: the normal 'spring' action didn't work, and the more I pushed, the more the card slipped into the sd slot until it wouldn't go any further ...
I had to use a pin to slowly pry it out from the slot. Fortunately I got it out.
So did I get a dodgy / fake card?
I did notice that on the dummy microSD card that came with hermes, the front tip (the end that goes into the slot first) is narrower on both left and right side of the card than the back. While on the card I got today, only the left side is narrower; the right side is a straight flush line ... which smells fishy.
Should I return this? The shop keeper keeps saying it's the real thing ...
thanks
It'll loosen up. Mine did that too (on two different devices) for the first few times. BUT, SanDisk doesn't work in Hermes, so, take it back because of that. You need a JAPAN made MicroSD Card... There's a thread on this.

Same here, I have a 2GB SanDisk Micro for over 6mths now, fully utilised and works flawlessly. A lot of ppl bought same card from same place I did, and I haven't heard complaints.
And fits perfectly in my TyTN, from day one.
I'll be the third to say that I have never heard of nor have I ever had problems using my 2gb Sandisk in my Hermes.. Legolas, what are you smoking?
And if you could please provide a link to that thread, I would appreciate acquiring its knowledge.
I have 2 sandisk 2 gig both brought about 4 months apart from seperate suppliers both work fine.
SD Card problems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294324
Odd that you aren't seeing it.. On my two 8525, I can get the cards to disappear almost on demand.
It looks like mostly a Cingular ROM issue in that thread. Maybe that's why I don't have same problem, I've had my original TyTN ROM until I flashed to WM6 XDA Live 1.0, with which works fine too (not in a hurry to change to xda live 2.0, 1.0 so far works good for me).
I haven't had a single disappearance of my card and/or loss of a file since I bought the phone in Sept last year.
Yes, sandisk cards work fine. The issue with cards disappearing is a rom issue which will eventually be resolved. If you are using a stable rom you won't have a problem.
I've never had to force a card in the slot though!
problem "fixed"
Hi everyone,
Thanks for the replies.
FYI, I've "fixed" the insertion problem now: it seems that I need to be a little careful when inserting the card into the slot, and keep it a little more to the left and down.
The first time I inserted it, I pushed it in a little higher into the slot, which caused it to get stuck. So the problem doesn't occur now, though it does make me wonder why the slot was made with such loose tolerances (I'd expected the card to either go in or not; and if it does go in, the slot should be such that the card goes in without any need for the user to be 'careful').
And the Sandisk 2GB card reads / writes fine in my hermes. I'm using the latest 3.5 ROM from HTC.
cheers.
Changed from SanDisk to Kingston 2GB card. And the device works without any freezes. I guess the Hermes DOES have issues with the SanDisk cards. Only my opinion..
had some corrupt files on my 2gb storage card so i copied off the good stuff then reformated as fat32 alloc unit 512. copied files back on but now TomTom runs like a dog.
have i used the right settings for reformatting?
any other suggestions?

What rom? BL? Radio? etc..? What do you have on the card? Do you experience any issues where the phone goes to sleep and never wakes up until you soft-reset? Do you *ever* need to remove and re-insert the card?
Please, when you're posting information that you want to share with others, be DESCRIPTIVE! We'll never figure stuff out if all you contribute is, "Mine works".

Will the 3125 read a 2gb Microsd card?

just want to be sure it supports 2gb cards before i buy one
yes it supports up to 2GB
In case you're wondering what brands are known to work good in 3125 - I have a SanDisk 2GB in mine that works fine...
Just bought a couple more the other day from a vendor on Amazon.com - 2GB seem to be pretty cheap now. I went for the SanDisk packages that include a SD and mini-SD adapter with each micro-SD card - hardly any more expensive than getting just the micro by itself (and keeps your options open in the future)...
(no, I don't work for SanDisk...

do u solve that ?
any ideas ?
i face that with 1 gb and 2 gb and 256 micro Sd cards . i donot know what is the problem ..
please help us guys ..
I had issues in the past where the contact between the phone and card seemed to be a bit flaky. I have since put a small folded piece of paper (just a couple of layers thick) between the SIM card and the SD card to push it down in order to get a better connection. I have not had any problems since.
Hi Mag ,
Thank you So much for your useful post ,
ur solution is the Best , and it is a successful way to resolve that issue ,
i had created a topic here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420140

I have had that happen before, I think the SD card driver is crashing, once you reboot the phone it seems to work fine. This happened on an official cingular ROM. Never had a problem with Erofichs' ROMS

Just try adding a layer of tape (I used regular, transparent scotch tape) on top of the microSD card and trim it
Resolved the issue for me

AT&T Version -- SD Card not recognized?

I'm having a problem with my GS3 (US AT&T version) that I finally got my grubby paws on today. I bought the 32GB Samsung Class 10 metal MicroSD card for it from a legimate source, and verified its speed and function with H2testw.exe. It passed the tests, and both of my computers can see the card when plugged in through my card reader. It is already formatted as FAT32.
When I insert the card into my phone and turn it back on, and then go to storage in settings, it does not recognize the card. The option to mount the SD card is grayed out, and a reboot doesn't fix the problem.
Does anybody have any ideas on what could be going on?
Hopefully I didn't get a defective phone, since I already installed a Skinomi screen protector and would hate to buy a new one, and because the phones are pretty much out of stock everywhere around me.

It worked about the 10th time I tried it, after I hot swapped a couple of cards. Hopefully it was just a temporary bug, and not something thats going to bite me in the future.

[Q] Can't format micro SD card (write protected, parsing error)

I've tried pretty much everything so far. Suddenly, it doesn't allow any more writes. Any songs and files currently present work with no issues. Anything downloaded/pushed through adb is either corrupted (songs are out of sync, music is all fuzzy) or just won't open altogether (parsing error).
Deleting any file works, until the card is reset. After that, all the deleted files are restored. Any pushed files will also be deleted after a remount.
I'm trying chkdsk right now but I can't format it in any possible way, and the write protected switch on the SD card adapter is OFF.
SD card is sandisk ultra, class 10.
Any ideas what else to try? To format I've tried windows, guiformat and SDformatter.
SD card is 64GB, FAT32 and 32KB allocation size.
Also, anything copied from the SD card to windows works just fine.
In fact, the last recorded files are some photos, dated 13/4 (13 of april). I have no idea why it has suddenly stopped the write cycles.
If formatting through phone, it'll 'format it successfully', but instantly after it'll show that the same space is used as before, so no rewrite actually happened.
It's driving me insane now.

OK, @JJE, your post doesn't help at all. It would make a lot more sense if you took a few extra seconds to specify WHICH POST (like add the link) so we can get to the solution you're talking about.
@Choristav: I had the exact same problem, with the exact same MicroSD card, went through the same motions of attempted fixes and frustration. Ultimately, I had to just return the card under warranty (and that too, physically go to the location so I could see them destroy the card since it contained private data that just wouldn't go away!). I decided to exchange for 2 x 32GB cards instead for use on cameras/handicams.
I had another new MicroSD card of the same make which I used successfully thereafter for about 6 months, but the same problem has resurfaced! That just leads me to think that these Sandisk Ultra Class 10 Micro SDXC cards have a problem, at least while using on smartphones.
So in short, I hate to say this, but I think the card has gone defective so your solution may lie in just availing the warranty for it. Before I return my second card though, I will spend some time looking around, over the next couple of days, to see if I find a simpler solution (like if there's some way to successfully "unlock" and format the card) and if I find it, I will post the link to the solution. Cheers!
I had the same problem with my SanDisk card.. After being so frustrated, I bought a new sd card, this time from Samsung and it's working fine. Btw the SanDisk support is crap: they asked me if I know how to insert the card in my pc or how to open it and I was like.... Shut up ?

Yes, SanDisk support was asking me dumb questions too and sending me through some scripted routines, but my response cut them short and they approved the RMA... I said, "I've already tried all the suggested solutions, this is a well-known problem with this particular model, you should look up forums on the internet to make yourselves aware. aaand BTW, you guys may want to be smart and either recall this product, or hand out an advisory that this model shouldn't be used on smartphones, cuz given the large number of folks who have lost data and time with this product, you may be exposing yourselves to a class action lawsuit. Just sayin'..."
RMA approved. I insisted on replacement with 2 x 32GB cards.
