here's a link to sony's update utility:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...eserviceapplication/xperiax10mini?cc=gb&lc=en
procedure:
1. download and extract to you descktop the newest GUI flashtool
2. in your phone go to settings ->applications-> and check unknown sources
3. in settings ->applications-> development-> check usb debugging
4. in you extract flashtool folder that should be on your desktop you will see a flash.bat file, open it to start program.
5. click on root and follow the procedure to start z4root and allow it to root and restart your phone, do not manually restart you phone, z4root will automatically restart your phone for you.
6. once your phone is completly restarted and functional, colse the flash.bat program and re-open it from the extracted program.
7. click on customise and allow it to fully install the applications, it will tell you finished when done.
8. mount your phone's sd card to your pc
9. download the root explorer.apk file from the download link provided and save it on you desktop.
10.copy the root explorer file from your desktop to the root of your sd card (do not put it in any folder)
11. unmount phone to computer
12. you will see on your phone that you have a program called astro, open the program,
13.in astro, navigate to your sd card and install root explorer.apk
14. once installed, exit out of astro
15. mount you phone again to your pc and create a new folder on the root of your sd card called new build, and create another folder called old build.
16. download the two build.prop files supplied in my download link and save it to your pc's desktop.
17. now open the build folder on your desktop and you will see two files, one called build.prop.claro and another called build.prop.vivo.
18.delete the build.prop.vivo file.
19. right click and rename the build.prop.claro file to build.prop (delete the .claro part)
20.drag and drop that file to you new build folder you created on your sd card.
21.unmount your phone from you pc.
22. on your phone, open root eplorer
23. scroll down to SYSTEM
24. find the build.prop file and copy it
25. back out of the SYSTEM folder and scroll down to the SD CARD
26. paste the copied build.prop file to the old build folder you had created on your sd card (its basically a backup in case you ever mess up)
27. now in root explorer, go to you SD CARD and copy the build.prop file from your new build folder that you initially downloaded and renamed.
28. scroll back to SYSTEM and click on the r/w button on the top left of screen
29. then past and overwrite the file
30.now exit out of the program and restart you phone.
31. don't worry if you phone menu system looks kinda wonky or doesn't really work properly once your phone has restarted. just make sure its fully rebooted
32.download and install the sony ericsson update service program from the download link supplied.
33. accept the terms and follow the instructions... (it will ask you to put your phone in recover mode by turning off your phone and pressing the back button while plugging in your phone via usb) you can make this process quicker by simply already having your phone plugged in and simply pressing and holding the top power button+back button+home button until the green light remains on.
34. the program will tell you that there is new software available for your phone
35. install and enjoy 2.5
Extras step to making the experience even better!
i personally don't like the boot animation of the new 2.1 update and would rather not have the claro operator logo at the boot startup. the way to do that is:
root your phone again by following my instructions earlier, and install the root explorer.apk file again from your sd card. once your have root explorer installed and working navigate to SYSTEM and then to MEDIA. in media you will see a bootanimation.zip file, simply delete it.
Now for removing bloatware (operator specific applications):
to remove application that may be of annoyance, just go into root explorer again and navigate to SYSTEM and the to APP and dele and .apk files that are programs like ei: claro.apk... make sure you press the r/w button whenever you want to delete or overwrite something in SYSTEM. And be aware that if you don't know what your doing, you can brick your phone. SO BE CAREFUL!
And finally, as most would already know, this is all at your own risk. Sometimes its better to leave these types of hacks alone if you don't know what your doing.
I take no responsibility or credit for any of these hacks. thanks to all the members on XDA Developers for your support and help.

There are steps to make it simpler ... which is independent of the version they have in the cell (2.1 Uk or other ... 1.6) is achieved by having the American firm ... thus reduce it without diminishing the tutorial: alex0983
1. Planet app install
2. Find and install z4root
3. Permamente root install and follow instructions, the phone will reboot ...
4. In Planet app also find the Root Explorer and install ...
5. Connect the phone and copy the build.pro (Claro) to the SD and disconnect
6. Open root explorer and if I get a message to: super user ... allow him ....
7. mounted R / W. ... go the SD route where the build.prop copy and recopy this time from root explorer and find the path: / system and replace the phone ....
8. Turn off the phone ....
9. Connecting to Seus and select repair ...! and ready ... your phone now is American again! And firmware 2.1
10. To remove things Claro, just make the points 1,2,3,4! then the path / system / media to copy the boot loader found in the forum and in the path / system / app to delete the applications they say. clear (remember to mounted R / W)
I hope you find it useful! And that worked for me! Obviously, thanks to your tutorial alex0983 which also served me as a whole, but I found the quickest way!
Sorry for my bad english!

re:
hey no problem, i'm glad you found it useful. Sorry for the 35+ steps... I just wanted to make it easy to follow for people who had never done something like this before. Just trying to help ppl.

Actually the tutorial is very well prepared but no longer so necessary to the root from the phone! And for that we are in the community to help and facilitate the process to other users!

Kudos for you alex0983 and kloriahdez, thanks for your posts!!!

xrecovery problem with the X10 mini

after installing the Rom I ****ed something and now my phone displays, and not to go neshte new rum nor rekovarito place, and I write this -------- xrecovery can't open / tmp / recovery.log
and now the phone is not usable, people help you have a chance to fix
pls help
Not a big problem to be honest.
Can you turn your X10 Mini on\off? (Since you need to turn it off for using the official updatetool.)
If you do, just download the Sony Ericsson Update Service for the X10 Mini.
You can find it on SE's official site under downloads.
Then just update your cellphone's FW to 2.1 again.
If you cant turn it off, you can let it drain and then do it.
OR you can remove the back cover on the phone, then remove the rubber cover over the powercord, then remove the powercord gently with a little pin to turn off the phone.
Then plug it in again and do the update-progress.
Hope it helped you in any way.
I have myself done this many times due to failed CFW install.
Edit:
As for installing xrecovery..
That isnt hard either to be quite honest.
First you root your phone and reboot it.
Install Root Explorer from the Market after root + reboot.
Get the xrecovery files over to the memorycard.
Use Dropbox if you cant use the memorycard on your computer.
Then open Root Explorer and go to the system folder and click "Mount R/W",
find the three files (xrecovery files) on your memorycard and move it to the
correct location (system/bin ? .. make sure you read up on where it is. it says where in the xrecovery thread here on xda-developers, because Im not 100% sure its in the bin folder.)
Reboot and you should have xrecovery when you boot and spam the "back" button!
Once upon a time you had to CHMOD the three files after you moved them to the correct folder (to 755), but the last time I checked xrecovery I didnt have to.
Just make sure you read the walkthrough on the official xrecovery thread. It all is there.

[Tutorial]How To Root and Unroot Samsung Galaxy Ace official Gingerbread 2.3 updgrade

If you’ve upgraded your Ace’s firmware to the official gingerbread update you might know that SuperOneClick rooting method doesn’t work anymore. Luckily there is another method involving installing a zip file from recovery which I’m going to explain now. This method is actually better since you don’t have to connect the ace to a computer. You can root and unroot on the fly. So in this tutorial I’ll be showing you how to root AND unroot you Samsung galaxy ace!
Caution: In my experience nothing has ever gone wrong with rooting. There is always that slight chance something can mess up. Use caution and only do this if you want to. I am not responsible if anything happens (but I really don’t think anything will happen if you do everything right) Also rooting voids your warranty but don’t worry, unrooting should give it back like nothing ever happened.!!
Download the two zip files I’ve attached below
How to Root the Galaxy Ace 2.3
1. Copy the Root.zip file (download below) into your sd card. You can even put it in a folder if you want.
2. Turn your phone off
3. Boot your phone into recovery mode. To do that, hold HOME+POWER buttons. When the screen turns on and you see the Samsung logo, let go of POWER but keep holding HOME. After the Galaxy Ace logo shows up and disappears, you should enter recovery mode. You can let go of HOME now.
4. Now in recovery mode, you can scroll up and down using the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons and select using the HOME button.
5. Scroll to the second option “apply update from sdcard” and press HOME to select.
6. Scroll to the Root.zip file and select it (if you put it in a folder, find and open that folder and then select Root.zip
7. After it’s done installing, select “reboot system now” and wait for the phone to reboot
8. To check if your phone is rooted, go to you app drawer and look for an app called superuser with an icon of a pirate android with cross bones. If you see it, your phone is rooted.
Congrats! You’ve officially rooted you galaxy ace!!
Now what if you want to go back to unrooted for some reason , or just for the heck of it?? It’s easy. Very similar to rooting
How to Un-root the Ace 2.3:
1. Download unroot.zip (below) and put in sd card
2. Turn off the phone and boot into recovery (refer to step 3 above)
3. Install the unroot.zip (similar to step 5 and 6 above)
4. Restart phone (incase you’re THAT stupid, refer to step 7 above)
5. Look in the app drawer and if all went well, the superuser icon should no longer be there!!!
Note: I've tested the unroot.zip and it works for me. But just incase it still doesn't work you can use a root explorer and delete some files to unroot:-
-Open up market and download "ES File Explorer" (or if you have any other root explorer you can use that).
-Open ES files explorer, tap menu, go to settings, go to the "Root settings" section and enable "Root Explorer" and "Mount file system" (you have to be rooted to do this)
-go back and tap Favorites in the top left corner and select "/". Now go to system/app/ and find and delete "Superuser.apk". PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! dont delete anything other than the files I mention.
-go back to system/ and open the "xbin" folder and delete the following files and ONLY THESE FILES!!!:
1. busybox
2. sh
3. sqlite3
4. su
5. su-v1
6. su-v2
7. su-v3
-restart phone

Your ace is now un-rooted! It’s that simple. Hope I’ve helped! I’m not sure this method works for froyo, but there are plenty of tutorials for rooting froyo ace as well.
Note: the root and unroot zip files are not mine. Got them from some nice people on the internet and then renamed them!
I got the root.zip from http://androidforums.com/ace-all-things-root/328648-galaxy-ace-root-gingerbread-2-3-3-a.html ......... on this site the zip is originally named upd_1.zip
The unroot.zip is from here http://www.tutebox.com/3708/mobile/how-to-unroot-samsung-galaxy-ace-with-android-2-3-4-or-2-3-3/ ….. the zip was originally named update.zip

Well i wasn't able to find any posts on rooting and unrooting the 2.3 update. most people just show rooting and then i had to google around for unrooting. So i just thought i'd make one. Had nothing better to do this weekend.
Unrooting issue
I've tried the unrooting tutorial by hubix. However, as I tried using root checker ver 3.2 by Joey Krim, there was a conflict. During my first test (advance mode), the output says
"Root Access is not properly configured or was not granted.
Superuser.apk - com. noshufou. android. su - is NOT installed!
The application Superuser is recommended as it provides basic security and is available for free in the Android Market
Standard su binary location:
/system/bin/su: No such file or directory
Standard su binary location:
/system/xbin/su: No such file or directory
Alternate su binary location:
/sbin/su: Permission denied
SU binary not found in the system declared PATH"
Second time around and it displayed the same output. However, starting at the third trial and so on, the output says
"Congratulations! You have root access!
Superuser.apk - com. noshufou. android. su - is NOT installed!
The application Superuser is recommended as it provides basic security and is available for free in the Android Market
Standard su binary location:
/system/bin/su: No such file or directory
Standard su binary location:
/system/xbin/su: No such file or directory
Alternate su binary location:
/sbin/su: Permission denied
Root user id:
Root not properly returning its user id
Root group id:
Root not properly returning its group id"
It was weird though, I've got a feeling that something's wrong, either my unrooting process or the app itself. Any ideas?
new to flashing
hello,
-i recently upgraded my galaxy ace to gingerbread 2.3.5 will this (rooting tutorial) work with this firmware or should i revert it back to 2.3.4 so i could try rooting?
-i found out in samfirmware.com that they only have 2.3.4 updates, so does that mean my current firmware is no good?
Thank you very much. (1st post here).
unroot doesnt work for me
Rooted yay!
Thanks for the tutorial, i managed to root my Samsung Ace, the files with the bar-code was helpful too, not tried un-rooting yet so i cannot confirm this works
thanks!

[A] Huawei MediaPad Root

=======================NOTICE=================================
All your current settings and apps will be gone after flashing a ROOT rom, only the content within Internal SD will be kept, so backup somewhere first.
If you must keep your current apps and settings.. read post #12
==============================================================
You need a Linux environment to do the following... (read #2 if you know windows only)
1. First of All, download the latest ROM from Huawei official site..
http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/technicaIndex.do?method=gotoProductSupport&productId=3779&tb=0
2. Unzip it, you'll have a folder "dload"
3. Extract the file" system.img.ext4" from the Update.zip
4. Copy the "system.img.ext4" into your Linux Environment..
5. mount the image file like these...
#mkdir /mnt/tmp
#mount -o loop system.img.ext4 /mnt/tmp
6. put the "superuser" binary into the path /mnt/tmp/xbin
#cp su /mnt/tmp/xbin
7. Assgin the correct permission to the su binary
#chmod 6755 /mnt/tmp/xbin/su
8. Unmount the path and copy the system.img.ext4 into the original Update.zip
#umount /mnt/tmp
9. Put the "dload" folder into the root directory of a Micro-SD
10. Power Up your mediapad, when it vibrates, press and hold Volume Down until you see the Android icon, and it will try to flash the new ROM.
11. After everything is done, Look for Super User from Market, you'll see.
Huawei MediaPad Root, skipping Linux Steps..
The whole thread is here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19931693

==============================================================
1. Download the latest ROM from Huawei official site..
http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwid...ctId=3779&tb=0
2. Download a "system.img.ext4" file which already contain the su binary
OLD: http://www.multiupload.com/0WPLQILCGH (114.73MB) (from ROM dated 26 Nov 2011)
NEW: http://www.multiupload.com/OV7QJ27TGT (118.26MB) (from ROM dated 9 JAN 2012 )
!!! ALL I did to these files was putting the su binary, nothing else I have modify.
!!! If you still feel unsafe, just follow how I did in post #1 by yourself
3. Replace the "system.img.ext4" file in update.zip from Huawei with the one you downloaded in step 2.
4. Copy the "dload" folder into the root directionary of the micro-SD
the folder should contain "unlmt.cfg" and "update.zip"
5. Power off your mediapad, insert the micro-SD then Power ON again.
6. Follow the screen, when it finish.. remove the micro-SD
7. Look for the SuperUser app from android market, DONE.
You have the latest ROM with root now.
====================
Alternate TRICKY METHOD:
====================
Flashing only the "system.img.ext4" into your mediapad directly via fastboot would kept your current DATA and Apps untouched.
NOT recommended for production, as Huawei updates things other than the system, so flashing only the "system.img.ext4" may lose those updates !
BUT this method could give you a chance to make a backup via titanium before flashing the new ROM completely.

With root access, do you know if it causes any problems to uninstall some bloatware (i.e, blockbuster app, Lets Golf 2, Blio, Qello, etc)?
Also, are there any ROMs available for the Springboard/mediapad?
some tips:
1) some distribution of linux may have "read-only filesystem" problem when cp su to mounted system.img.ext4. try it on older linux kernel distribution.
fedora16,ubuntu 11,mint 12.. have this problem.but fedora13,mint 10 is ok.

Flash the system.img.ext4 into your mediapad directly via fastboot
to activate the fastboot mode of mediapad..
1. Connect your mediapad to your Computer with USB cable
2. Power up the mediapad with Volume Up button press and hold until your computer sense it and install the correct driver for it.
3. Direct flash your mediapad like this..
fastboot flash system.img.ext4
then, reboot your mediapad..
you'll have your current user apps un-touched, while you have the latest system. enjoy~!

Hui, thank you very much for this. I think there's something missing in the command. Is it "fastboot flash system system.img.ext4"?

MediaPad root and keeping APPs and Settings
TRICKY METHOD to keep current Apps and Settings.
For important data, please copy it out of your mediapad before continues...
==========
How it works
==========
Flashing only the "system.img.ext4" would update your system path
and keeping your current apps and settings untouch.
Backup your apps and settings after you gain root access.
Flash again the whole root ROM after the backup.
Restore all stuffs after the 2nd Flash.
============
Steps to Follow
============
1a. Download a "system.img.ext4" file which already contain the su binary
OLD: http://www.multiupload.com/0WPLQILCGH (114.73MB) (from ROM dated 26 Nov 2011)
NEW: http://www.multiupload.com/OV7QJ27TGT (118.26MB) (from ROM dated 9 JAN 2012 )
OR
1b. Make your own "system.img.ext4" file like post #1 mentioned.
2. Activate fastboot mode of mediapad by
Power OFF, and connect your mediapad to your Computer with USB cable.
2. Power ON the mediapad with Volume Up button pressed and hold until your computer sense it. (install the correct driver..)
3. Put all fastboot files(attached below as zip) and the "system.img.ext4" in the same folder.
4. Open up a DOS promp, go to the path you have those files and type...
fastboot flash system system.img.ext4
5. Check your mediapad, when it done reboot your mediapad..
6. Install SuperUser app from market, install Titanium Backup.
7. Make full backup in titanium, all those backup files will be kept in Internal SD, which it will not be touched when flashing the 2nd time.
8. Download the latest ROM from Huawei official site..
http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/technicaIndex.do?method=gotoProductSupport&productId=3779&tb=0
9. Replace the "system.img.ext4" file in update.zip from Huawei with the one you downloaded/made in step 1.
10. Copy the "dload" folder into the root directionary of the micro-SD
the folder should contain "unlmt.cfg" and "update.zip"
11. Power off your mediapad, insert the micro-SD then Power ON again.
12. Follow the screen, when it finish.. remove the micro-SD
13. Look for the SuperUser app and Titanium backup from android market again.
14. RESTORE everything from the Titanium backup
(!! make sure you have selected "RESTORE", not BACKUP, it's easy to mix up!!)
15. You have now the complete updated and rooted system together with your previous apps and settings.
I would appreciate you're patient enough to go through all these steps..
if you like this post, please click THANK YOU
although I still don't know what's the use for that thanks meter..
After checking the time stamp and file size of all files inside the ROM dated 21 JAN 2012
I confirm the ROM dated 21 JAN 2012 is identical to the ROM dated 9 JAN 2012
If you have already flashed the 9 JAN 2012, you're already using the latest version.

Does anyone know why Ubuntu 11 mounts the system.img.ext4 in a strange form of rw ? I've been over this again and again. I've run up Linux Mint 10 on usb and mounted it successfully but it makes no sense that Ubuntu does the same. There must be something odd with the newer linux kernel causing this problem but nobody seems to know why. It seems crazy to have to run up an old OS just to mess about with an ext4 filesystem.
Any ideas ????
Does it support *loop device* ???

How can i root my prestigio PMP5080B Android Pad on gingerbread 2.3.1

Help!!
i been surfing the internet trying to find a way of how i can root my device. so far ive had on luck. i have tried gingerbreak but i don't think this has even worked. does anyone have any ideas of how you could root this particular device. if you have any suggestions or know how you can, i would be very grateful.
HOWTO - root PMP5080B
There is a way to root the tablet.
But it it does not root the runnning version, it roots the update image.
So if don't have the most actual firmware try this:
(maybe you can flash the firmware even it is not newer, but i don't know how)
Todo (Windows PC necessary):
At first load the latest firmware and unzip it:
h t t p : / / w w w .prestigio.com/info/product/downloads?NODE_ID=61101103718510974&ITEM=110706112617507776
Download the Wendal tool:
h t t p s :/ / docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B8h...RjZjFmODdiZTQ1
Then follow this steps:
1. Unzip the Wendal tool, you get a folder named "RK29xxImagetools_v2.1".
2. copy the update.img from Prestigio firmware download in the "RK29xxImagetools_v2.1" folder and rename the file to "wendal.img"
3. start "Runme.bat"
4. press "1", you get the message that you have to rename your file. Since you have already done this before proceed. The batch file starts, make sure you dont see any errors.
5. press "2" followed by "Enter". The rootet image will be created automatically
6. end the programm with "3"
7. in the "RK29xxImagetools_v2.1" you will find a file named "wendal-new.img", copy it to your SD card and rename it to "update.img".
8. put your SD card in your tablet, you will get a message to update your firmware
9. the tablet reboots, flashes the new firmware
10. be happy with your root access
Still having problems.
i have done what you said for me to do but when i rename the firmware to "wendal.img" and run it for some reason it keeps saying i haven't put the firmware in the folder when i have. do you know what how you can sort this out.
cheers
Did you unzip the firmware download?
Tried, tested & confirmed working
Just like to note that the software used will give you a warning about placing the update.img in the correct folder and renaming it even when it has already been done. You just have to press enter!
I have 5080B and i want to root it, but on ICS stock rom. Problem is, i cannot use wendal tools cause it can't add su and superuser.apk into /system ("no such directory") and even earlier i used to root gingerbread with these tools it is half-root - /system not rw, but superuser works
i saw update 2.0.2 from prestigio, pre-rooted, but i want to root this, newest version, 2.0.3
i have linux setup running and i tried mounting system.img but i can only add su, and nothing else cause there's no space...
also, how do i boot recovery from the device itself? i tried vol- and power key but there is an image of an 'destroyed' Android bot, no options there at all
Same problem - want root on Prestigio PMP 5080B
Just got a Prestigio PMP5080B running ICS 4 and want to root the tablet. I read from the preceding message that thhe method discussed here doesn't seem to work with it. Any ideas would be most welcomed here too.
By the way Hi!

Xposed/Note 3 on Jasmine Rom/Snapchat login fail workaround

As you all know if you have Jasmine Rom installed it comes preinstalled with xposed framework that can't be Uninstalled.
I have Note 3 SM-N900V but am unable to flash custom recovery due to my emmc not starting with 15. So Ihad to go about finding a different way of doing this. And this is the only way it has worked through many trial and errors and restarting phone from scratch. This is the only way that works that i have found. Anytime I have tried to I have bricked phone and it will not boot back up. tryed flashify , flashfire, flashing the uninstall zip and nothing would work For those of you having issues with this . Follow this workaround on how to get
Snapchat working again.
Go to es file explorer and navigate to
1. data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/ after opening xposedinstaller folder you will see a files folder take the whole files folder and move it to extsdcard or to pc.
2. Navigate to system/bin/app_process.xposed move app_process.xposed to same place you moved the file folder to.
3. Navigate to system/framework/ and move XposedBridge.jar to the same place as other files .
Restart phone and install snapchat and login.
Now you can move those files back to there original places. Then Restart phone again.
