Gingerbread Keyboard For Rooted Devices - Legend Themes and Apps

For all who might be interested to try... Following the instructions in this article will help you to install Gingerbread keyboard:
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/12/06/download-gingerbread-keyboard-for-rooted-devices/
Cheers

Confirm, it's working. It is better though to have the language set for English...if one would choose another language, it may have some missing characters. For example, I had also Romanian selected. When I switch to it, the first row displays only some of the numbers (the ones that are typed when you long press on the key). 1,2,4, 5 and 9 are shown (if I remember exactly) the rest of them being inaccessible. If you switch to English, everything looks just fine.
Keyboard seems (and looks) better than the standard Froyo keyboard (and this is how it's advertised too), has some new functionality, but I still prefer Better Keyboard. For those using English layout and don't have Better Keyboard installed, this Gingerbread ported keyboard will be a better option than the standard one (and best thing...it's free)

it works but that's about it.
The dictionary doesn't know some of the basic words even though it supports dutch. :s
And I don't think its made for hdpi, it looks pretty small.

I'm using a HTC mt4g (rooted and s-off), installed this and have only English selected, yet as soon as I touch a key it FC for 'android.process.inputmethod.latin
Also, my phone has the same resolution as the legend (480x800) and the keyboard seems to be sized correctly.
Anyone else with this FC issue?

The Legend is 480*320, not 800*480.
When I tried, the installation failed because it couldn't verify the zip file.

Ah gotcha. I'm just using the xda app and thought the legend was the incredible..
It seems like a lot of people are having issues with this keyboard currently

I got it to work by downloading the keyboard zip made by fabulous. Google it. If you have a problem with the keys being to small, you need to download the LCD Density app, set it to 240 and restart, then set it back to the default of 160 and restart.
They keyboard should be fine after that. I've been using it for a while and prefer it to Swype, HTC, and Android 2.2.
One last note. Restarting the phone may cause the keyboard to revert to a small state so be prepared to do the LCD fix again.

This did not work for me, when i change the density to 240 the phone reboots.
Then it says density is 160, so the denisty won't change!
Can someone help me?

[Theme] DroidX Keyboard - Dark

Didn't see this anywhere on the streak forum so here's a link. This is the awesome droidx multitouch keyboard (my favourite by miles) and a certain zach.xtr has changed the colours to dark with green highlight. Recomend for anyone still hunting for a replacement for the useless Dell keyboard on 2.1
Download .apk here [Original Thread]
EDIT: Anyone running the Froyo beta here is the same keyboard and skin for 2.2, this is a .zip so you can push it, flash it or install the .apk

It actually works
I installed the white one, it does vibrate on keypress, but so little its hardly noticeable. It seems like thats a bug on the streak. Does the vibration on this one work better?
Can you just install this or do you have to do something special?
I ask, because on my streak it wouldn´t install. Might be because it´s not rooted yet or because I have the white one installed.
best keyboard by far
Please could someone post clear instructions how to install this onto the Streak.
I've renamed the package "LatinIME.apk" and copied it across to the SD card via USB but I don't understand what to do next.
This is an awesome keyboard. Love the multitouch and the size of it. Thanks for the link!

I had installed it but not enabled it in settings, and then was wondering why I couldn't choose it as an input method.
This keyboard is so much better than the regular 2.1 keyboard!

it doesnt look as polished as other keyboards but i really could give a crap. the functionality is beyond fantastic.

Should be standard little mic next to space bar, it doesnt always appear only in normal text input areas. If you don't have it check that its installed or possibly reinstall the keyboard?
I personally like some feedback, but very subtle. Would be cool if someone managed to add the level of haptic feedback as an option in the settings.
HOLEE CRAP this keyboard is amazing... Thanks for sharing!
I'm wondering if anyone has tried porting the stock 1.6 keyboard.
I love the numpad and would hate to have to change to different keyboard as I'm used to using it now.

I can't access keyboard debug menu on my tablet so I figured I would try ICS keyboard and well...that didnt go well so I thought...why not the gingerbread keyboard? And poof! It works perfectly minus voiceinput*because I cant get into debug menu* so, time for instructions?
First, you need to put the APK on your SDcard:
Download link: here
Next you need to push to your SDcard either through adb or just using USB mass storage.
Afterwards copy to system/app/ using a file manager *ES file manager or Root explorer is recommended. Root Explorer for those of you who use paid apps or ES for those of you who want a free alternative. I used Root explorer.
Here is the VERY important part, mod the permissions to the following:
Code:
Read, Write
Read
Read
Finally, just reboot and you will have it.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Code:
You can redownload the stock APK from [URL="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15069134/LatinIMEbackup.apk"]here[/URL]
and follow the rest of the guide starting after you download. It's the same universally. Also note that not all keyboard apps work well in system which is why I did it with the stock gingerbread app. Ice cream sandwich keyboards aren't too /system friendly.
it works well. I hope we can get the ICS keyboard up and running. Their is just a small visual issue with background behind the keys being white not black like in your screen shots.
I'd be happy if I could get Swiftkey Tablet up and running, but I'll give this a shot. I found the menu where you can change the colors of the default keyboard, but some other ones have added functionality that I'd like to have.

How are you even getting the microphone to show on the keyboard? I can't find the setting for it anywhere and mine doesn't show in either portrait or landscape?
Mine only shows the comma key in that location.
You need to hold down the comma key on the gingerbread keyboard and go into settings.
Oh, and you need to have voice search installed.

After rooting my NT I installed a thumb keyboard, it did not work. Recently I followed your instructions and installed the gingerbread keyboard.
Holding down the comma key and going into the settings I was given an option of picking the thumb keyboard and was able to pick the options I want to use with the thumb keyboard. It's working great so far.
A very nice surprise.

[Q] Most recent JB software update killed keyboard

Hooray! my personalized ringtones work! but now my color scheme is different, and my keyboard doesnt work... is this right? I tried restarting it etc, this is what it looks like when I pull up the keyboard to text, type in a search etc;
I also noticed they took away 'all pictures' in my photo album, so Im having a hard time finding new screenshots.
Is it just me, or does every update seem to hide or take away useful functions; its almost as if these updates are released without any testing...

yes, not rooted, keyboard is scrambled in landscape and portrait, this happened as soon as they update was finished; the keyboard was fine for about 2 uses and then it scrambled. I tried power cycling it, and so far, the only keyboard that i can see is the typical phone keyboard.
ill try just downloading a new KB and hope that works....
and it does! awesome, this will do for now... and this keyboard sounds like a typewriter lol

Same thing here. I was bored and used the calibrate tool while waiting for CM10 to download. Immediately after I opened the keyboard in another application and it looked just like the OPs screenshot. Rotating device to landscape and back fixed it. Didn't go much further because after a few minutes I went back to CM10.

Full emoji support

****You can use this keyboard wherever you input words****
This does require root!!! I take no responsibility for this or what happens to your device. I STRONGLY recommend a nandroid before testing any of this. You assume the risks for trying this. Also I am not 100% sure if this works for other android devices, but I do believe it does, if you want to try it and let us know then go for it.
I don't take credit for any of this. I just found it and wished to share with the community.
So far everyone I have texted has recieved my emoji. IPhone people get them seeing as its built in. Android people you text have to have it enabled on their device in order to see it (the receiver). Unless your on CM10.1.
Now onto what I did to get it working.
(On CyanogenMod 10.2 or AOSP this app does change anything)
First I got the app from this link. Followed the instructions for the apk.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29281110&postcount=1
(NOTE: THE EMOJI WILL ONLY SHOW UP IN BLACK AND WHITE ON YOUR DEVICE - the sender. The reciever will see it however they have it configured on the receivers end)
Once the app is installed I went into the app and hit the apply button. The app requires root privileges. Also the phone reboots itself after its done.
Once fully rebooted. I rebooted into my recovery(I am using clockworkmod touch) and flashed in the recovery the zip file from the following link:http://d-h.st/dHv
Which can found from this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2056558
I did wipe cache partition and dalvik cache just in case. And after flashed zip, I rebooted and had the following.

To pull up the emoji keyboard what you need to do is swipe down from the notification bar at the top and change your input method. Once changed you can select your emoji and then go back to stock keyboard and continue typing away.
Hopefully it works for others. I will try to help where I can but I am no expert nor do any kind of development. Best of luck to all interested.
Attached here is the most recent keyboard of iWnn IME which I myself pulled from my Nexus 7(2013). Has a different look behind it. Attached is an image of it also so you can get an understanding of what it looks like.

I noticed if you try to delete emojis from the IME using SwiftKey it causes text in the input box to disappear and doesn't actually remove them. Going back to the emoji keyboard and deleting them there takes care of this. This isn't a problem with the stock keyboard.
Also, emoji enabler messes up the Japanese dictionary.
So....I would really like to build on this.
Some ideas I have are try to figure out how I can change over to color emoji as opposed to just black and white.
Additionally I would like to maybe remap a button on the HTC sense keyboard that would automatically bring up the emoji keyboard. Whether it be a long press or something different. Kind of like the button to change between languages.
My problem is that I don't much on editing files or any kind of development. Any direction would be helpful.

Is it totally changing the system fonts? Bcoz i am playing lords and knights and i am not able to see emoji characters. I am able to write but can not see any of them.
No need to flash anything. Just root your phone, download the link which author gave you about font enabling, then use it. Reboot your phone, works fine with htc one x, venomx 3.6.1
Or just use kii keyboard. Full ios6 emoji support
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
True but this was an option for those that would want to stick to sense ROMs and HTC stock input method for there typing purposes.
Plus with this method you do have iOS 6 emoji support.
The rest if my family is on the iPhone and they all receive my emoji and I see them no problem just black and white as indicated in the OP

No. Instead, everything gets smaller, when you decrease the LCD density. To make things larger, increase it.
Usually we use this trick to make better use of the screen. More content and less interface area.
Try increasing the font size, or play with the accessibility settings. Maybe this can help you.

Those things certainly help. I wish you could modify the invert option. Triple tap to zoom is good. Just need a little more than the standard large or extra large font.

You need reboot 2 times to verify if an app became incompatible. On 260 Botanicula, Bright weather and Angry Bird HD were blocked.
But if you don't use anything that is blocked, be happy! Like me, with the Nexus 5 on 261 (1 pixel before going into the world of phablets). ?
