Turning on Vibrant with now power button? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, Few question . My Vibrant, power button ... Broke . Long story short, there is no button anymore to power on the phone . It works fine, If i plug in the phone via usb the display shows the battery . But idk how to turn the phone on !
Im going to get a replacement, but i have a lot of data saved in the internal memory, and i was wondering is there anyway i can extract the data?

uhh use a pin or something and push inside the powerbutton place... it might turn on and then usb and take everything out.
try that?

Tried that! didnt work .. I dont know what to do ): i got pictures on there i really want :\

I know that when I take apart my phone and want to turn thepower on without the button being there, I have to push and hold right in the center of the little button press. You have to get it just right or it wont make a connection. Is the plastic button gone or is the actual electronics inside all messed up? Maybe you can open it up and try to press the button if all else fails.

2 button into download.
Vol UP Vol Down, Plug in USB.
Once it's in download mode, run:
adb reboot
there you go.

Contact coasterman927 via PM. He lost his power button doing the hardware GPS fix (impatiently in his car) and has to purchase 5 sets to get them.

I know this might be a stupid question, but did you download Android SDK. I think you need those files first before you use ADB then go into 3rd party apps and download the drivers if it does not install automatically. Most likely you'll have to force start the driver download. Mind you I have never done this before. I'm just trying to help.

I don't think he wants download mode, that is for odin.
He wants recovery mode. Hold both volume buttons and plug in the USB. It should power on in recovery mode. Then just select reboot from the menu to boot normal.

it just puts me in downloader modee

You may have to replace the microswitch button. How are you with a soldering iron?
Without seeing it I can not be sure, but I think you would need something very similar to these:

How about jumping the power contacts? I don't have any schematics to see which ones they are though.

Flash a radio or kernel with Odin, it'll reboot the phone after.

[Q] Power Button Stopped Working

Any thoughts?
The ONLY area it seems to work is to power up the device.
I cannot do the following by pressing it or holding it...
1.) Wake device up
2.) Pull up the shutdown menu
3.) Hold down to power off device
...and most importantly...
4.) cannot select options in CWM (but if I hold volume and power it'll get me into CWM)
Any idea how to flash it back to stock? I have a jig if that helps. Thanks.
Currently the only way I can wake the phone is to plug into a charger.
This had happened to me like 3 times. What I did in order to get back to work, was opening the phone and blast some air with those cans of compressed air use for computers.

"Go to youtube and search how to dissemble, there are couple of video that shows a step by step process of dissembly. Now the only problem is that there isnt a specific video locating the lock button and you will have to find that yourself. So after you dissemble your phone, locate the lock and use CRC QD Electronic Cleaner I read that is the most reliable and decent one out of all sprays and all you need to do is spray around the button area, and push the lock button 20-30 times and repeat the process a couple of times. After that you should let it dry for a couple of min and then put your phone back together and it should work fine!."
This worked for me. I found it in the captivate forums. Been going 1 month strong after the cleaning!

okay I'll check that out. How about the USB port? I need a solid connection to the computer. If that's the case I can jig it, place it in download mode, and re-install my ROM and get out of the boot loop I have the phone is in. The power button then is irrelevant because I'm sure I can set the phone to wake with the volume keys thus eliminating the need for the power button. That's the other issue (and more important issue). Otherwise, I have a paper weight.

If you fix the power button and you can get into CWM (like your first post says) then you should have no problem. The power button is probably shorted out (like mine was) and you cannot use it for selection.

This what I mostly get the first attempt.
Anybody a hint how to avoid that Volume opens?
It's very difficult to press exactly the same time both buttons. When I get this done, no Volume opens, but it's hard.
The time window seems to be 1/1000 ms or less.
Thank

Can anyone help here?
Is there a trick?
Or is it just buggy on CM 10.2.1?
Are u sure that its a vol down + power? As I remember everywhere I had the phone it was HOME + power buttons pressed together.

Yes!!! This prefere I too, if possible, but not possible with PopUps, they disappear when I push the POWER Button. There only way with this combination POWER+VOL-DOWN exactly at same time.
I even have a little Tasker Task for taking a screenshot (with /system/bin/screencap), more comfortable than POWER-Menu, but this neither works on PopUps.
Hmm, I acturally tried that vol down + power and it really works. Tried doing it 5-6 times a row and worked every time. No volume changing at all. I didnt even know there's such a shortcut, thanks guys. But unfortunately I'm not on CM now, but Slimkat (omni based I think), so maybe they fixed something there? What about trying external screenshot app which allows to shake device or set own shortcut? Have you tried that?
I guess this is a bug in CM10.2, have to live with it, there is more annoying things in live
I noticed that if I first press Volume (down) and then (max about 0.5 sec later) power button, this works much better. Normally no worries then, screenshot reliable done.
Thank you. This way I can take screen shots from notifications panel, lock screen and power menu.

Now I uninstalled the Xposed module "Xposed additions" which was the culprit for these irregularities and now it is vice versa, first power button (hold) and then Volume down.
Works.
I found "Xposed additions" as culprit because after an update of this module the screenshot didn't work at all.
I had used this module to set the Volume button as Camera button, which messed up something I guess.
No button will work.Try to use motion on and then swipe your palm.OR try to use application of screen shots from playstore.
Hit thanks?

Xperia Z Ultra Power Button Remap

Hi, I am a complete noob here.
My Sony Xperia Z Ultra is not able to turn off due to hardware issue. The power button is always pressed. Whenever I choose to off the phone, it turns on but also turns on itself. There is time during my work that I need to have my phone off totally (not even silent mode). Repairing costs me the price of a new phone.
I want to remove volume up button function and call for power function when "volume up" button is pressed. I searched and found great remap button apps. But all of them revert back to the original setting when I off my device.
I tried rooting my device using "Root Android without PC" and "KingRoot". I verified the root status of my device using "Root Checker". But I don't dare to move a step further to install Xposed Framework because I don't know how and the risk is real high that I can't take.
What can I go about in this case?
Sorry if I ask, but isn't it enough to put it in airplane mode? The phone is as good as off that way...
And hey, if you have to repair it, you're beyond the risk part already, although I don't know if there are apps allowing you to remap (or ignore) physical buttons...
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
Are you sure that the power button is pressed at all time?
How do you access the power menu to turn the phone off if the power button is pressed at all time?
How do you wake the phone when its booted to system?
How do you turn off the screen when booted to system?
How do you keep your phone on if the power button is pressed at all time? If I keep it pressed from when the phone is on my device turns off in a few seconds. And it remains in a constant bootloop from booting to system then turning off again.
There is the emergency switch inside the sim slot. Red button. It will kill the device.
Or you can press and hold the powerbutton+vol up. Does the same thing as above.
IF you are 100% sure that the powerbutton is pressed at all time.
You can take the phone apart and remove the flex cable. IF it is as you say. The button is "pressed" at all time.
There is two scenarios.
a) The push button is pressing down on the switch for some reason.
b) The switch is stuck in nc = being pressed/closed circuit.
Both scenarios are caused by either two reasons.
a) The power button was put on too much force. Either by slow continuous force. Or a quick force explained as perhaps the phone was dropped and the button took the hit.
b) The switch has been exposed to water or a liquid that conducts electricity. If this happened there can be numerous reasons why the switch is stuck in nc.

A short press on volume up button triggers both volume function and power menu. In normal case, the power menu is triggered only after longer press (2 seconds, maybe) on the power button. Very long press on power button doesn't restart my phone in bootloop, I tried when it's working fine.
I use "Soft Lock Screen" and "DSTO" (proximity sensor) to lock and wake my phone. Volume up can wake the screen too.
I tried power+VolumeUp (only volume up for my case), red button beside sim slot, factory reset... Nothing works to save the power button.
Both scenario are possible for me.
a) There are times the proximity sensor does not work during a call, I long pressed the power button to wake my phone. But tapping and flicking near the power button does not help, so I suppose not this reason?
b) I wash my phone. Although the water check sticker is still white, I suspect water leaks in near the power button itself. If this is the case, the only solution is changing the whole mother board/flex cable? Can I put into dry box (or rice) for days to dry it?

Then perhaps water has also reached other parts.
TAKE NOTE. This is not an easy fix. This change requires deep skills to replace. And proper equipment.
I would give u three options
1. send it for repair
2. give it to a friend who has skills to fix (if you know any)
3. let it be as is...
Well I wash my phone on a regular basis, but my buttons all work as of now...
With Root, you could install GMD Gesture, I use it to pinch the screen with three fingers to make it go to sleep.
You can potentially use it to assign any action or any button to whatever gesture you want to do.

Problem controlling Bluetooth volume [solved]

Hey evbody, Im back with Note 8 (from the 7 & LGV20) and have a wierd issue. At work I have a Bluetooth speaker, syncs up fine, nice & loud. For some reason I cant control the volume direct from the phone. The slider moves like normal and its either full blast (or so it seems) or off. Its like the ramping ability of volume is gone. Did something change with Samsung while I was away? My LG and other Sammys worked fine. Say for instance Im playing music and a few profanity laced tracks come up, I could lower volume by simply pressing vol down hard button, without waking phone up. Now Its unresponsive and When waking phone up,it shows me slider is almost at minimum yet Lil Wayne is still blastin. Moving slider more goes to zero which kills all audio.
Any ideas? Is there a Bluetooth profile or something I missed?
Does the volume slider show the name of the device as you're changing the volume?

Yes, It shows up as Sound Kick 2. I misspoke early stating button was unresponsive while phone screen is off. It actually does work but behavior is still the same. ie. Holding volume down wont do any ramping until volume hits minimum/zero which mutes all sound.

Sorry, beats me....perhaps unpair and re-pair....the only other thing i can think that may be doing it is in the volume panel when you click vol button and if you press the arrow to the right to reveal all the volumes....have you enabled the option to 'use volume keys for media' i DON'T have that enabled....perhaps if you do try disabling it and see if that works.
Best of luck getting this issue resolved. If i can think of anything else i will chime back in.

Interestingly enough i just tried with my jbl pulse and what i noticed is that when i press volume keys on note it actually turns the speaker volume down (as if i were pressing actual speaker volume button)
Whereas with my note 7 and EVERY other phone the two volumes where independent....i could have phone on full volume and speaker at 15% etc....so interesting find......gonna try enabling that toggle i mentioned earlier and see if that switches back to old method.....must be part of the new bluetooth protocol.
Ok think i got it for you!
That toggle did nothing but what you want to do is on the bluetooth page press the three dots in the right upper corner, select media volume sync and disable that setting. Hopefully solved.... i learned something new today !

Im thinking youre on the right track of a new BT protocol or something to that effect, your view on how your Note 7 behaved is exactly how mine behaved on various devices. My phone sits closer to me where as my BT speaker is hard to reach. I usually kept the BT speaker volume at max and used phone volume buttons as my control. Hopefully I can do a little testing in the a.m.. I actually skipped my internal playlist today and streamed iHeart due to it.
I see your potential fix and will give it a full swing at work tomorrow, actually anxious. I'm a person who needs music to be productive. Thank you for digging around for a solution.

Fingers crossed.
Disabling that made it work in 'legacy' mode for me (independently)
Also try toggling the developer options setting "Disable absolute volume"

Ok think i got it for you!
That toggle did nothing but what you want to do is on the bluetooth page press the three dots in the right upper corner, select media volume sync and disable that setting. Hopefully solved.... i learned something new today !View attachment 4290577

This did it!!!! Works absolutely perfect. Thank you a million times. Im not sure what the purpose of the default setting was but it will not be missed.

Awesome. ur welcome!
I turned off the default setting -- in order to use dual output -- and now I am NOT able to turn it back on again. Other people have the same problem. Any solutions??
Can't turn it back on.

Thanks for this; just got a S9+ and my volume bar was 'bouncing' every time I changed an app with my Bluetooth headphones connected. Disabled the 'volume sync' and it works like normal.

Thank you so much. Still helping in 2019.
Just to add a little something that really expands how the volume is used, download from the Play Store Sound Assistant and Precise Volume. Sound Assistant is a very light program that allows you to control the sound of every app on your phone and has an EQ included.
Like if you play games on your phone and don't want the game(s) to be heard, you can turn them each all the way down while still keeping your ringer, media, notifications, etc the same. Or you can modify those individually as well.
Check it out.
Solution to this in 2020 is under disable absolute volume under developer setting. You must toggle Bluetooth off and back on and also turn Bluetooth speaker off and back on. Now you can control the volume of some older speaker with your phone.

Question Surface Duo is Screenshot working after android 12 update?

Hi all, after the android 12 update, I am now unable to take screenshots on my surface duo 2. I used to press the power button and volume down together, now that's no longer working. Anyone else have this issue also?
Still works on my SD2.

Mine isn't working either. It only works after turning off the device but it becomes disabled with the time. Did you find any solution?

Hi, I still haven't found a solution, I'm thinking of resetting my phone back to factory settings, then doing the 12 update again. I'll let you know if that's fixed it.
No problem here.

well, I found the issue with the screenshot not working.
If you change the gestures settings on your duo to the three button gestures and then slide down from the top to bring down your quick actions and notifications. That will disable your screenshot (power plus volume down) and quick mute (power plus volume up) functionality.
Even after switching the gestures back to swipe actions and restating the phone screenshots wont work.
The only way to enable screenshots again is to switch back to swipe gestures, then hard reset the phone. Power plus volume down for about 20 to 30 seconds until the phone turns off.
Then press and hold the power button until the phone turns back on.
This is clearly a bug. I prefer having the old 3 button gestures control system but now I cant use it, if I want to have a working screenshot button.
Disappointed, but I'm glad I figured it out.
This issue is still persistent after a factory reset.

I know this is late but MS still has not fixed this issue, but I pointed to point something out, you do not need to do a hard reset, changing to the swipe gesture and then a normal restart also works. Also if you like the 3 buttons as i do as a alternative you can thwe square which brings up the open apps dialog box and you can take a screenshot of the app in the center, not he same thing but thought I'd mention it.
I don't have this bug on my SD2; I try to do the same process you describe and still keep three buttons control
Just an FYI, there was an update that came through this morning that seems to have fixed the screenshot keys in 3 button mode. Figured I would let everyone know that has had this issue such as I. There was no specific detail about the update other than operating improvements.

Interesting, I have still been running into this problem when in 3 button mode. It will work for a little while and then suddenly stop working again until I restart the phone.

Actually I have been busy as of late, but there was another update that happened 3 weeks ago and the screenshot is now NON-Functional for me in either option, so its broken completely, where before if I changed it to swipe gesture it would work, now nothing works.

It still works (consistently) for me in gesture mode, but not surprised to hear thats not the same for everyone. Every day its a new "quirk"
