[Q] After flash to TNTlite 4.4, no longer can connect PC to gTab - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

With apologies to Roebeet, who provided a response to an earlier inquiry about this - - but I couldn't interpret what to do - I am posting here to see if anyone who has flashed to TNTlite 4.4 has had a problem with connecting their PC to the gTab and being able to then see the sdcard drive and contents. When I connect now, the tab shows a "USB Connected" and then a USB Debugging Connected" message, but nothing can be seen on the PC, except, a removable disk (F and when that is hilighted the message "please insert a disk into drive F" shows up.
Any advice, reference to a thread that addresses this, or other guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Pinckneyite,
This is a new one to me and I read the forums pretty thoroughly.
Since the drivers that communicate to the PC are built in, the only
suggestion I can think of is to re-flash the ROM and see if it comes
up.
If not, then I would re-flash back to stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
and see if it works there. Along the way, you may need
to load CWM (ClockWorkMod) in case you need to clear/wipe, etc.
Do some loading and testing the let us know what you find out.

It doesn't automatically mount on your PC. You have to pull down the notifications menu and select "USB Connected." That will give you a dialog that will allow you to "Activate" USB file transfer.

Ahhh. That worked. Guess I hadn't even looked there. Thanks!

You have no idea how long I spent trying to figure that out when I had that problem... ;-)

Well maybe, then, you know what the "USB debugging" option on that notifications menu means? I see it there as an option to turn it off or on. Leaving it on seems to do nothing to handling file transfers, etc. What is it for? Thanks.

USB Debugging is a development tool. It's not necessary for average daily functions but a few apps out there require it. It won't hurt to just leave it on.

TNT (Lite) is different thatn AOSP based mods, that's correct - you just have to click on the "!" icon.

[GUIDE] How to setup QPST

I know I may get **** for this but I haven't found a thread that really delves into how to setup QPST from top to bottom. So I decided I'd make one.
HOW TO SETUP QPST FOR USE WITH YOUR PHONE
You can use QPST to do an array of things, most commonly on XDA though it is for Changing the Carrier Banner of your phone and tweaking the speaker of the phone to make it louder
The whole process should take under 10 Minutes.
disclaimer: I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone.
Make sure your phone is plugged in, has debugging ON for the whole tutorial.
1. Temp Root yourself using whichever method you prefer ( I use this one)
2. Get your MSL using MSL Reader from the Market (free) OR Call Sprint to get your MSL OR Get your MSL using CDMA Workshop (which I will not go into as It is a different subject and not as easy as the aforementioned)
3. Get QPST and install it from here
Put your phone in diagnostic mode by punching in ##3424# in the dialer through out the whole rest tutorial, if it goes out of diag mode, just put it back into it by going to Dailer and punching in ##3423#
4. Download HTC Diag Drivers Both 32and 64 are in the zip
5. Install the QPST Drivers for your system (32bit or 64bit)
- A. Go into Device manager (from control panel)
- B. Find HTC Diag or HTC Diag Modem (along those lines)
- C. Right Click it and select update driver
- D. Select Browse computer for driver software
- E. Browse to the folder containing the drivers your downloaded in step 4 and then select the folder for your Windows version (32/64, if you don't know go to my computer and select properties)
- F. Click Next, it will install your drivers
6. Once your drivers are installed your device should be recognized and read as HTC Diagnostic Interface, followed by the port it is located on. For me it was COM5.
7. Open "QPST Configuration" by Start>All Proggrams>QPST>QPST Configuration
- A. Select "Add New Port"
- B. Input whatever port your phone is connected to (eg. "COM5" as mine was, without the quotes) in both the port, and label boxes.
- C. DESELECT The "Show Serial and USB/QC Diagnostic Ports only"
- D. Click OK
8. You should see the new added port and its state as ENABLED, if it is there, continue
9. Close the QPST Configuration windows now and now you can use your phone with QPST.
VIDEO GUIDE (CREDITS: DISTURB3D1 / WWJOSHDEW)
To change the banner of your phone: (CREDS TO SLAYER69, ORIG THREAD)
1. open up Service Programming via Start>All Programs>QPST>Service Programming
2. You should see your phone and the port its connected to (make sure your phone is in diagnostic mode ##3424# )
3. Click ok, now you should see a window with many tabs
4. At the bottom of the window you should see a button called "Read From Phone" Click it.
5. Input your MSL now in the box that shows up. Click OK
6. Now all of your phones settings are in the program.
7. Now navigate to the "Display" Tab, You should see a Box next to the word Banner. This is where you will enter what you want your banner to be. (Don't use any special characters)
8. Once you have done that, click "Write to Phone", located next to the Read from phone button at the bottom of the window.
9. Your phone should reboot, and your changes will have been made and can be viewed in the lockscreen, or in the pull down bar.
To increase the volume of your phone: (CREDS TO T3PROJECT, ORIG THREAD)
1. open up Service Programming via Start>All Programs>QPST>Service Programming
7. Now Navigate to the "Sounds" tab, from here you can edit the loudness of your phone, I set mine to all 3s, although some have set theirs to 4. 1 is the quietest and 4 is the loudest. Your choice of what you want to input here.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BLOWN SPEAKERS
8. Once you've selected the options you want click "Write to Phone", located next to the Read from phone button at the bottom of the window.
9. Your phone should reboot, and your changes will have been made.
ENJOY.

Heh, been using QPST since about 2005 and my old Samsung sph-a900.
It's easy.
Just be sure you load ALL the drivers for the phone (there are 3 or 4 depending on 32 or 64 bit).
You'll have to force feed them since they are not signed.
That means you'll probably have to load one at a time.

Yeah, it's easy for us, but many others consider anything beyond point and click or 1 click type things hard, so this is for them and the many newbies coming into the forum
Am i the only one having trouble with QPST finding my phone?
I've got the HTC Diag drivers installed successfully (Win7 x64).
The COM port in device manager is showing COM3.
I have my MRL and ive tried to go in View Mode and Edit Mode after typing ##(MRL)#
I added COM3 and it is showing as a USB link (which is correct).
But QPST is still saying No Phone.

I think you mean MSL, and you're doing it wrong.
you go into diag mode by pressing ##3424#, it is the same for all phones. After that go to Start>QPST>QPST Configuration, then click ADD PORT in the bottom left hand corner, for the port put "COM3" (without quotes) as the Port and Port Label, and make sure the Checkbox under it is UNCHECKED, I repeat UNCHECKED. Then click ok. Now you can close that windows and open Service Programming from Start>QPST>Service Programming
Make sure your phone is plugged in, debugging ON, and in DIAG mode (##3424#). From there you can continue on with my TUT above.

Do you have the MSL? If you're rooted just get the MSL reader from the market. If not call Sprint and they should give it to you.
It would help if you could tell me where exactly you get stuck and if any errors show and what are they (Screen Shots Help)

What exactly does it say? Are you able to get to the load from disc screen to browse for the files? Make sure you select the WHOLE folder when selecting the drivers, not just a single INF file, that way all the things in the folder get loaded.

Paranoid android vs mass storage problem

Hi there,
I am new here and realize I first have to search the forum for the problem i encounter , I did that, could not find the exact problem.
One mentioned slow copying but it was resolved after someone advised him to use a 2.0 usb port.
But that's not the issue in my case
I installed latest paranoid android rom as the second rom in the dualboot option from siyah kernel.
I followed all the instructions to install it correctly.
When i connect phone to pc to copy file the pc hangs, that means, the program which is doing the copying hangs, (both total commander as well as windows file explorer) have to close it with task manager, then when I browse the phone I see the file i tried to copy is present with the original size, but its corrupted, its only size being reserved for the file.
It is not an usb port problem, because when i boot the phone to my first rom (simplistic disaster) i can copy files to the phone, and its fast.
anyone have this problem or know a solution i would be be grateful, because I like the rom, but if I cannot copy files to it it goes down the trunk.
yours sincerely
Ronald
Put out your microsd and connect it directly to pc, works fine? If not it's card issue. Format could help in this case.

Thanks for your response, I did not try that before allthough im pretty sure its not the solution, because if it were the case i would have the same problem with the other rom booted.
But to not make a fool out of myself i tried it anyway s, and like i anticipated: no problems with the sdcard, the problem also occurs when i copy to the internal sd card, so its most likely some combination of the paranoid android rom with other issues .
Hard to say anything wise... I would try to find answer in rom specific thread. Hope you will solve it. Good luck!

The 10 post rule is there to (hopefully) prevent people from posting random threads in development fora. Doesn't seem to help much though.
Hello
First, excuse for my english. I'm french, and like you know, we are the worst of the world in foreign language (thanks google Trad).
Two, thanks to this ROM, she's great, the best Rom i test since i've my SGII.
So, I'm here because i've a problem (surprised?). When i copy my music Folder (4,5Go), I've a first error message who tell that a sing have a wrong format (MP3). It's not really a problem, because I can ignore it and let the copy continue. But after that, I've a second error message for another file. This time, the message tell me that the phone not respond (sorry, I try to translate Win7, in french: "le périphérique ne répond plus") and i have to stop all the copy or ignore this file. If I ignore, I've the same problem for the following files, and all my folders are empty.
This problem appear with or not the debug mode.
Can you help me? Sorry if the question have been already ask, i've search all this afternoon (I live in Reunion Island, actually it's 5:00pm) and i don't find any answer.
Thanks a lot.

The problem you're having is normal at least for now, and I've experienced it many times.
These are my observations and how I've solved the issue in different occasions:
Observations:
- this issue occur randomly
- it's more common if your computer has been hibernated too many times without rebooting
- it's also common if an app on your phone is also trying to access your storage simultaneously.
Solutions:
- stop the copying process, and reconnect your device to the pc.
- reboot your Pc
- copy your files via Wi-Fi using apps - reboot to recovery, connect your phone to your Pc and mount your device as usb (under mount option in recovery) and copy your files.
Note:
-The solutions listed above are not dependent on each other, and one of them will sure get the job done till mass storage mode is fixed in the Rom.

Hello,
I try to connect my Gs this morning like you tell me. But it doesn't work.
Firts, i boot my PC after a good night. I re-boot my phone and after that i connect it to my PC.
The same error appear at the begining of the copy.
So, i try to mount my USB storage (i've no Wify to my job so i can't test this solution). The PC detect my phone (it was in the peripheral equipment, but the SD doesn't appear in the explorer.
I'll try to change the kernel, i would like to flash Siyah. If i'm lucky, maybe it will work. Which siyah's version is compatible with PARANOID. I maybe understand there a problem the beta6.

SO i read now its a common problem with the rom , i did not find that information yet, I now using the cynogenmod 9 from july because i was hoping to solve the mass storgage issue and guess what, the same problem, so now i know its not paranoid android related but a cynogen mod issue.
I actually have a new problem since i have a new adsl modem, cyanogen mod does not have a wps option to connect to a wifi router, the modem i have wont connect with any android device the regulary way by typing the wep password wich worked fine with other devices like ps3,TV and a laptop, we have 3 android devices (2x s2 and 1x 10.1 tablet) and all only can connect with the wps option wich unfortunally is missing in cyanogen mod
But I dont see this as a rom problem, only as a missing feature.

[Q]How to enable USB Storage on JellyBAM 3.0.0

I'am using JellyBam for quiet a while, and cant use the USB storage option other way then through the recovery.
At first I thought its a bug, but i'ts now the 3.0.0 STABLE version, and still when I plug the phone to my PC, the USB Storage option doesn't pop up.
Am I doing it wrong or something, or is it really impossible to mount USB storage through this rom?
What u already tried?
Did u activate "USB debugging" in settings>dev?
Did u flash another kernel?
What the main thread of JellyBam says, did u already ask there?

Hi Vad88,
As Hannibal226 said, you should be posting this in the main Jelly Bam thread here.
Here, many doubts will be posted mainly on the technical issues not on specific to some Custom ROMs.
BTW, here is the solution for your question.
Goto--> Settings--->Storage-->Menu(press this on your phone),
then a popup shows up saying, "USB computer Connection", select that, in that link, you'll get some options.
There you need to tick on "Mass Storage".
That's it, you are done. now whenever you connect your mobile to computer, a notification shows up, USB storage as we used to see in Stock ROM. From there you can drive yourself for connecting the mobile to system & explore the phone storage contents.
Regards,
Hereticnine.
hereticnine I LOVE YOU
really I will have your children
I cant ask in the main JellyBam tread because its in the development forum which I cant write in, because I have less then 10 posts, I searched there and couldn't find anything.
Thanks hereticnine, I followed your instructions and it works!
Appreciate the responses! :good:

Cant copy big files via USB

hey guys, i have a pretty big problem with my OnePlus3.
whenever i copy a lot of files (like mp3s) or very big files (movies) via usb from phone to pc or from pc to phone i basically always get an error somewhen during the copy process.
if it are a lot of small files most of them get copied and i just have to try the missing ones again. but bigger files are nearly impossible to copy due to this stupid error.
the error occurs on differnt points of the copy progress bar so its not always the same. i guess if i would try it 100 times i might have luck somewhen and be able to copy a big file.
i really dont know what to do about this...
i am running Freedom OS 1.7 (Android M), but already had this problem on privious versions and stock (OxygenOS). so its nor ROM related i guess. also i havent found any similar problem in OP3 section. no idea whats wrong :/
pc is win10, usb driver installed ofc.
if you need to know something else just ask.
please help me obi wan...eeh, xda. you are my last hope.
I have two options
First: Try transferring files wirelessly using shareit, xender etc....
Second: Go to mobile info and click on build number five to ten times
Then you will get a toast saying congrats you are a developer
Now Go to developer options in setting and enable usb debugging
Then try transferring the files again
Hope this solves your problem

Question OTG and data not working on my 10t

i have the factory unlocked 10t no mods. The OTG will detect a flash drive and ID it but refuses to read or write to it, even when given the permission to do so.
It shows up in settings/storage but the only thing i can do with it is to eject it. No file manager will access it to read or write. If i try to create a file or folder it gives a generic error. I t-shot with OP and sent them Logs and got nothing back from them. The ONLY setting for OTG is OTG Connection which switches it off after 10 minutes. Doesn't seem to effect it at all. There are 2 settings in Developer Mode Default USB Config and Select USB Config. no combo of settings has gotten me a working OTG.
Has anyone gotten this to work or have any suggestions plz?
Thanks in advance!
