[Q] BELL Atrix specific help.... - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey all! great forum... former se x10 mini user... getting my atrix today!
my main question is: i want to install greyblur after rooting but there are always warnings about not installing it on the BELL version... yet i see, via their signatures, that many bell users have it installed... the guide for greyblur does not have specific instructions for bell, just has big warning in red saying not to install it on bell!
so how do i get it working?? what do i need? i'm pretty handy with android, so no need to have crazy detailed help...
thanks everyone! looking forward to learning more and more about this great device!!

See the thread called "SBF/root/deodex 2.1.1 SBF" or something along those lines (in this forum). In order to get greyblur/GingerBlur working on a bell phone you have to flash an international SBF file. Right now the most current is 2.1.1, a generic SBF (leaked from France). Just be warned that flashing this will void your warranty. However, it hasn't caused any issues itself and wont CAUSE anything on your device to fail at all, if you get into trouble its most likely just bad luck with hardware and if you REALLY need to return your phone there is a general way to make it seem like you've gone back to stock, that you can do with the help of forum members here if needed.
Not trying to scare you off, I've done this myself. I'm just making sure you understand the risks. Hope this post helps you understand what you're getting into and where to go for further info.
Also, this should be in Q&A section, not dev.

not scared at all! thanks for the PERFECT response!

Moved to proper forum.

ok, i'm going through the steps but for some reason the x64 drivers won't install (yes i have 64-bit windows.). says this:
"The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation."
i assumed they weren't required.
nothing happens when i run rds before plugging in phone. when i reboot the phone, i see the rds protocol message, i run rds on my pc, plug in the phone and nothing happens....
thoughts?

I know nothing about windows sorry bruvva
I do know that once you are running a p rom pretty much everything becomes compatible

well the drivers do need to be installed, you can find the necessary drivers in an executable package here although i can't tell you whether admin restrictions will block that too. might be easiest to find a PC where you can do stuff as an admin depending on your current system's configs.
once drivers are installed your PC will recognize device when in RSD mode.

I would assume that the login on your comp is not set as an administrator. You have to be logged on as an administrator to modify system files or drivers in windows.
You could also try right clicking the usb driver installation exe and choose "run as administrator".

Hey
Regarding the Win 64 driver, I had the same issue, until I realised the link given in the thread about 2.1.1/Greyblur for the driver lead to a corrupted file (~ 500 kb) even using a download manager. I downloaded them from elsewhere (Motorola Website) and the error message disappeared without having anything else to do.
Hope that helps!
Guillaume

Actually got the whole thing going a while back... sorry for not checking back!
I am officially enamoured by this phone......... the start of a beautiful and complex relationship ...
And yeah, I suspected that it had something to do with corrupt file... tried a few diff sites but all seemed the same... eventually tried a diff usb port and it worked...

x10a device ID

Hey guys so instead of flooding the root thread i thought id ask it here,
Having tried the "USB\Vid_0fce&Pid_adde\" in regedit and not finging anything i tried
looking for it under USB massive storage detailed section i have found what i think is a device ID...well the only difference is it doesnt end in _adde, it ends in _e12e in fact it looks like
USB\VID_0FCE&PID_E12E\CB511GSXQM
i have repaired my device using seus and still the same thing...could that be my device ID? its i believe 4 digits shorter than the one in the DeviceID.txt which has me confused a little. Im using winxp and not win7 which i think might be the reason for the _adde part but let me know what you guys think.
thanks

1.Download Sony Ericsson's official update tool,
2. Install and Open the update tool,
3. Turn off X10, and hold "return" buttom, and connect the usb cable
4. wait for update tool to recognize and check your X10.
5. then go back to regedit to find it.
In another word, let SE official update tools recognize your phone first.

Possible exlpoit in x10 USB flash driver. (DEVS ONLY) PLEASE READ.

Find a way to get flash mode to stay active longer, Gives you more time to work and experiment"
The point of basing it on on the newer driver is that there may be something in them that will give us access to Fastboot"
Hopefully use that to get to the boot loader.
:--
I noticed today that there is a bug in the x10 flash driver that forcefully ejects the device from flash mode after a delay if it does not get initialized.
I am looking for someone that can make that driver stop ejecting the device.

Please.. as i said DEVELOPERS ONLY.
PLEASE DON'T spam.
I'm not talking about the flash tool.
i don't think it has anything to do with the driver, as much as the phone's flashmode behavior itself.
ie the computer recognises the device device differently whether its in regular usb mode, debugging, mounted, flashmode, etc.
i think what it's experiencing is flashmode turns off if there's a delay, and changes usb mode. the computer sees the change as "device A" no longer there and "device B" now there. the computer will see the different usb modes as separate devices since there will be separate ID's for the mode.
if there was a way to keep the phone in flashmode, this would fix the problem. but there's no way of doing that without changing and reflashing fastboot/bootloader.
Then perhaps a driver that acts more like the drivers for the newer phones.
I think.. Fast boot could easily be accessed this way.
And all we need is for it to load that driver and to test using this command.
fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version
This is all speculation.. but call it a lucky hunch.
If i am wrong then the mods may delete this thread and XDA may ridicule me.
If anyone does manage to do this.
The credit is all yours.
No.. now i am sure the X10's driver may be buggy.
Hold the flash button and insert your charging lead using the wall charger.
You will notice it stays in flash mode for much longer.
I may be wrong.. but test it.
that's because the data signal sent doesn't receive an answer at all.
in simple as possible terms:
when plugged into a computer, it sends the signal that it's flashmode, computer resonds "ok", device signals back "instruct", if the computer responds, it flashes, if there's no response in the defined time, the phone reboots out of flashmode.
i doubt that this could be used as an exploit, else we would have been able to fake SEUS or PCC into flashing a custom bootloader.
but don't get me wrong, if you or any devs know of a way to exploit it, by all means go to it!

Not to throw a spanner in the works BUT! Just so you know the driver you have installed is designed for the later Xperia Phones like the play etc perhaps if you removed the driver deleted the software that goes with it then re-installed the CORRECT driver then you would have less of a "Buggy" driver as you put it! Sorry for the put down but dont wanna get you carried away!
Edit: also some more research it indicates the its the android generic open driver inf

[Q] Can't aquire Root?

Okay guys, never let me down before, lets see if you can keep a perfect score
This is not my first time rooting, i've rooted at least 3 phones thus far, and I am trying to root my Samsung Fascinate. I've tried z4root, Superoneclick and adb. None of them took. I believe it may be something with my drivers, but before I get into specifics, let me give you my information:
~~~~PHONE~~~~
Hardware version: I500.04
Model SCH-I500
Firmware: 2.2.2
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: SCH-I500.ED05
~~~~COMPUTER~~~~
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3.
Ok so now that's out there, what am I doing wrong? when I tried z4root 1.3.0, it got the point where it said "acquiring root shell, then the phone vibrated 3 times and the app closed. Super one click, the prompt got stuck on "waiting for phone" ADB, the device won't even show up in the list of devices. I can't seem to find the right drivers anywhere.
It may be important to note that I am using my data cable from my optimus v, and when I plug it in, the micro-usb dongle doesn't go all the way into the port on the fascinate. However, the fascinate gives me the notification that usb mode can be activate and that debugging is on, etc.
I made sure that mock locations, and usb debugging were both on.
Any help?

Ive always used ADB and pushed over the files and such.
However are you going to flash another rom? If so just Odin recovery, flash the rom and be done with it.
I have to have root for that right? My drivers aren't working, is there a way to flash it with out a computer

agreed! If you want a different rom, alot of the steps in that link I posted a not needed. Just odin the proper recovery for the rom you intend on flashing. boot into recovery and wipe data, cache, dalvik, then install rom.zip from sd card. reboot and the phone should be rooted.

Downloaded everything in the link, installed drivers, I'm on my friends laptop now, still xp. I got to the step where I have to find CWM3 Voodoo in Odin, and the instructions say that one of the boxes should have turned yellow, but it didn't. I went on ahead and clicked the pda button, but it just said success 0/failure 0. What do I do? Do I have to have vista?
That means odin is not recognizing the phone. Im not sure if odin works with xp or vista... I only use 7 these days. Actually if my memory serves right, odin dont work with xp, don't quote me tho. You could try heimdall but I have no experience with it.
Still can't squire root.I've factory rest 3 times now and still nothing. Can no one help?

as stated in the op, I explicitly said I am using windows xp, media center 2002, service pack 3 to be specific. So your telling me I'm S.O.L.?
first, get a real cable
then, go to official samsung website and install the correct fascinate drivers
download and open odin v3 1.30 (I have xp and it works)
plug in phone in download mode, wait for odin box to turn yellow
pick file in pda
and press start
then just go into cwm via 3 fingers and flash rom

I'm not saying that you shouldn't be doing this but I think you need to slow down and read some more before trying. While this phone is pretty dang hard to brick without physical damage, lacking basic knowledge can put you down got a while if something goes wrong.
A good place to start is the qa stickies. Again I'm not saying don't, just maybe give it another day or two. Really sucks rushing in soft bricking and having to learn after with no phone in the mean time.

Not trying too be an ass or anything but 1.) This is my 5th or 6th time rooting. I have more than basic knowledge. 2.) This is a spare phone I picked up dirt cheap for development. 3.) I checked every place possible trying to find out why my drivers weren't working including q&a.
That aside, I'm trying it on my friends laptop with vista. Wish me luck.

[Q] Windows 7 will not pick up SGSII in USB Debugging Mode (Will not root as well)

I just bought my new Galaxy SII for a penny. Great deal, and spectacular phone. Happens to be my first android phone as well (been waiting for one for years). The only problem i am having is when I put the phone in USB debugging the computer won't pick it up in explorer. If I enable USB mode I can copy files, but I cannot root (Trying the Xperia X10 Easy Rooting Toolkit, spits out crap about "cannot find the path specified", no matter what I do). Kies also seems to not work with the phone... I have tried both my Self Built Windows 7 HP 64 Bit Desktop and Windows 7 HP 32 Bit netbook and both have the same problem. Windows Devices and Printers reads the device but says that the driver has not been installed, when in fact it has...
Any and all help to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Haha thanks, got it working. Rooted and everything, sorta excited-kid in a candy store .
OK. So if you couldn't tell, I'm a complete newb with android, wanted it for forever, but circumstances didn't allow me to until now, and now I feel a little over my head. Sooo:
1.) Could you (or someone) maybe post links to some threads or sites that would be good to ease me into the world of android?
2.) With my Samsung Galaxy SII, if I am installing ROM's and taking them off, and installing new ones, what are the chances of bricking my device?
3.) Since I rooted it, I went over to CyanogenMod and downloaded the ZIP to the latest stable ROM. I then dropped it into my SD card, and went into a app I downloaded called ROM Manager. When I went to install from SD card, and it rebooted, it gave me an error and popped back out, seemed like I did it wrong. So how do I install ROM's (CM7 in particular).
4.) How would I go about removing that ROM after its been installed and im tired of it ?
I hate feeling like a newb, and would be very thankful for any help people would be willing to give to get me started!
Ok, two more questions .
1.) Is there a good app to backup my current apps before doing a wipe(I have a ton of them...)?
2.) I read that ROM's cannot include google apps, so how would I get them on? Would I download the APK and then sideload them?
Thanks again!
The ROMs that I downloaded were all in ZIP folders and I couldn't figure out what I should link to odin as ZIP folders aren't compatable to flash . And then my phone wont reboot into recovery or download mode (can't remember which one I need to be in for Odin). I tried with debugging on and off and it just boots right back into android. This is very frustrating, as I know I must be doing something wrong...
Thanks for all your help

Wow you need to slow before you do something stupid. Take the time to read and just as important, if not more important, take the time to search the internet for your questions.
Learning what steps needed to do something to your phone is not the goal. Learning what you are doing and why, should be the goal, and learning how to do each step is a sidepoint that you learn as a by-product.
Most important thing to learn why and how to check for is to make sure what you're flashing does not contain bootloaders. If you mess with bootloaders and the smallest thing goes wrong, you end up owning an extremely expensive paper weight, i.e. a brick.
In general flashing what the majority flash here on xda is safe. But that's not a guarantee as any garbage can be uploaded. So read the entire thread. Some are long. If you can't be bothered to read the longer ones, at the minimum use the search tool to look for particular words to your question. Search before you post. It will be evident by what you ask that you've spent the time researching, and will attract a higher level of help.
I'm not trying to be mean or come down on you. You're already starting to do what's right by asking when you're not sure.
A NOTE TO YOU AND EVERY NOOB ON XDA:
One of the biggest reasons people's questions receive no response for a day or more, is because their question could be easily solved by using the search tool in xda or one google search.
In the wise words of tom cruise, "Help me, help you. Help me, help you!"
And yeah, he can fly.

Yea. I goofed and I flashed an international ROM onto it. I was able to find a unrooted stack tar to flash. I plan to do a lot of reading before I do this again . If anyone has any ideas on where to start that would be great.
And no problem, I understand as I am a heavy user of tomshardware forums. It frustrates me when people ask for advice a two second search would pull up.
Again thanks everyone! XDA is awesome!

[Q] Need help to root my phone

Hi,
I am trying to root my phone and have not had any success. I am on a Mac, but I set up a Windows 7 virtual machine and I am following the instructions on the article "How to Root Samsung Galaxy Note and Install CWM Recovery"
Whenever I run the runme.bat file and hit any key, it does something and then closes out so I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I made sure that the USB Debugging option is on, and I read somewhere that I need to set it to Charge Only mode but I am not sure how to do that. Does anyone know how to fix this?

There is no RunMe.bat (that I know of) for any rooting method of the AT&T Galaxy Note, so it sounds like you following directions for the International Note. Good thing it didn't do anything, or it likely would have bricked your phone.
I would suggest you research and read a bit more so you are more comfortable with the process. This video is a very good step-by-step video:

Thank you very much.
I follow those steps, boot the phone into downloading mode, and then connect it to my computer. When I do this, on my virtual machine running Windows 7 this is what it says in the device manager:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
Is there a fix to this or should I just use a friends PC?
Did you download the drivers from Samsung and install them in Win7?

Not sure if that's the issue or not - but it's worth asking.
