If you have installed CWM (which you really should as this is your pathway to all the modding and custom roms).
Then you can flash via CWM this tiny root package.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159572

would you please help me installing CWM?

All you gotta do is download it off the market and let it install.

Do not install the one off the market, it can't wipe data properly, doesn't support external SD card and might have other bugs.
Use the lastest CWM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138541
Which would be : latest: recovery-en-goapk-0625-2034.zip
Use instructions from here, they are very straightforward:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600
The instructions you need start with "INSTALL CWM RECOVERY:"

installing CWM needs root?!
step 3:
3) Use *Root Explorer* or some other file explorer app to navigate to: /system/etc. Look and see if there is a file there named "install_recovery.sh" If it is there, then delete it. If it is not, then you are ok to proceed to the next step
i want CWM to rooting my phone!

For now, you can just navigate to that folder and check if "install_recovery.sh" is there. If it's not there, then you don't need to do this step.

The Root explorer app bypasses non rooted phones. Don't worry I thought the same thing you did. Just buy the app. Its worth it anyways.

Omnius Root Method

1. Download one of the decrypted Roms in this forum mainly the RB001 for X10i.
http://hotfile.com/dl/47479718/71300...1_DEK.rar.html In particluar.
2. Extract the zip file and then the two zip files within the folder contained into the phone and ROM folder.
3. Replace all sin files contained within the root step 1 folder EXCLUDING SYSTEM.SIN and LOADER.SIN. put in the preset.TA file. (NOTE To use the R2 Baseband Copy and overwrite files into phone folder from Step 1 and then Step 3 of ROOT! and then follow Step 4 below)
4. Re-zip PHONE Folder.
5. Copy SYSTEM.SIN into the ROM folder and replace the system_S1-SW-LIVE-AC12-0001-S1-PARTITION-WITH-SPARE.sin and rename the file to that name (Or Equivalent).
6. Re-zip ROM Folder.
7. Open Omnius and Follow Instructions.
(Omnius is quite simple just download the zip file extract the program and then load it up, once open choose the device X10 and then press the flash tab, choose the phone zip file for first drop down and the choose the rom zip file for the second drop down press ok and follow Omnius instructions on screen.)
8. Compete Step 2 and then 4 of Root to complete

Good job man... I guess this avoids all the DeviceID finding business
So, what about step 3 in Bin4ry's tutorial? can it be done by Omnius as well?
Is this exclusive to X10i? What happens with timescape/mediascape? Anyway to keep both of them as some people are reporting to have?

To be honest i only have X10i so i couldn't say if it works or not on X10a or developer boards, Timescape is fine and Mediascape works well so far.

Yes as the root interacts with the firmware not the hardware. as far as i a aware though future solutions are imminent.
Can one use the R2BA020 and still achive root?
by missing out step 3 you are leaving your x10 on the slower older baseband
What is the situation of the phone? is every thing still there? TS and MS?

[Q] Rooting Help

I'm trying to install CWM for the first time using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948722
And when I get to this part:
7: When your phone boots..
- Enable USB file copying from the drop-down menu
- Copy the update.zip file from the CWM zip to the root of your SD card (the shared drive of your phone)
I can't go any further because there's no zip file attached to the post, even though the post states there is.
Can someone point me in the right direction of where I can find the update.zip file to flash in samsung recovery? Thanks.
Just to add some additional info, when I tried to do it straight from ROM Manager I get a signature verification failed error, and the install is aborted.
You can't do it by a zip, you have to download superuser.zip to your SD card, then Odin in cwr. Boot into certain, install superuser.zip make sure signature verification is off. Good to go. If you need the files go to fascinate general, my post, unbrick your fascinate, its towards the bottom in an edit.

[HOW TO]Install Gapps on CM7 for Gen8

This is just a short howto to bring Gapps on Cyanogenmod 7 for Archos Gen8 devices:
First you need two things:
-download a root file explorer like Astro or ES Filemanager or Rootexplorer(costs a few bucks but its still worth! you only can copy a apk of it if you purchased and installed rootexplorer in stock archos firmware. copy the apk in stock firmware from /system/app to sdcard, so you can install it in the bootet CM7)
-download gapps for CM7: http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip
Second you must extract your gapps.....signed.zip to sdcard.
Now make a reboot and boot CM7!!!
The following steps will not work in stock Archos firmware!!
Take your root file explorer and mark all apps in the extracted folder /sdcard/gapps-gb-20110613-signed/system/app and copy all apks to /system/app.
Now close file manager and reboot your device.
Once your device reboots it should take you to the start up wizard.
Open market and enjoy your CM7 on your device!!!
If this helps or if you can improve this how to you are welcome!!
Sorry for my bad english, i read it better than write it correctly

in stock firmware archos i didnt get asked for super user permission....
Because you don't have root in Stock.
Just edited my first post to boot (after extracting all zips) to CM7.
Hope its clearer now.

[Q] new to android (help)

hi im new to android phones
last week i got galaxy s2
now i found some great apps byt when i downloaded them i didnt found .apk app
instead i found few folders and files and i dont know how to instal them
should i root my galaxy?
Form where did you download them.. try using market app or download from apktop.com or android-market.co .. Also do you have System/app/ and META-INF folders in a zip file. If so you will have to install it in recovery by using install zip from sdcard option..

what app are you referring to?
if its a flash zip you need a custom recovery such as CWM or Amon Ra
there is no specific app ( i downloaded many app that was non an .apk)
yes its a flash zip
cmw comes after rooting?
thanks for your patience but im new to the world of android
So, flash cwm recovery and try to install from there.. if you flash cwm recovery you can even backup and restore your rom...
you need to root first before you can install a custom recovery.
usually system apps get install via flash zip. you sure the apk is not zipped up? sometimes you need to in zip to get the apk.
thank you all for your replies
the apps im talking about like app monster or other app that need a root
is there a safe way to root the galaxy s2 without changing the rom or the kernel
ie. i just want to be able to flash zip files ( cracked app)
and stay on my rom and kernel
and will i be able to receive apdates for the kies???
TO root s2 please visit this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
Sometime there will be .apk file directly inside zip file (this is done to reduce size of app) you should not try to install them from recovery only install zip file from recovery having sytem and Meta-inf folder inside the zip file.
Yes you will be able to receive updates via kies unless you don't flash a custom kernel...
thank you all
Hi! I just got my first Android Phone.
The HTC Inspire.
I've been told I could speed up this phone but I'm also curious to know what else I could do with it?
I used to have an iPhone and I would just change the theme and stuff...
So, I suppose my question(s) is/are;
1. How can I speed up my phone?
2. What can I do with my phone?
3. Is there a site where I can browse custom themes for my phone?
4. how do I add custom ringtones/ringback
thanks for taking the time for reading this.

To speed up your phone try v6 supercharger. Search xda forum and you will get there ..
You can do a lot of things with your phone like rooting it to make changes to system as well a ls access hidden system files and also to install app like app monster, titanium backup that are very handy ..
Not only this you can even flash/install custom Rom/kernel that are much better and optimized than stock one provided by HTC..
For more details Google root your phone model and custom kernels for your phone model ..
To get themes and more info foe your phone try to find your phone sub forum in xda forum or just Google .. to set custom ringtones you can select set as ringtone on your music player it copy ogg file to /system/media/audio (for which you need to root and use root explorer or similar app) and then go to settings.and choose your copies file..

What is App Monster? "flash/install custom Rom/kernel" ??
I'll try and find my phone in the sub-fourms
App Monster is an application that lets you manage your installed applications. For example you can backup apps and batch restore them.

Canadian ICS Rooting

There are a few posts regarding rooting Canadian ICS Note. It seems there is a script in the OTA ICS upgrade that re-installs stock recovery (3e) after flashing CWM using ODIN.
Note: The offending script only exists in the OTA ICS upgrade, and not in update from Kies or samfirmware ROM.
If you don't have the offending script, then after Step 7, just reboot into recovery, install superuser ZIP from CWM, reboot, and you're done.
I'm summarizing the steps needed to flash CWM and root Canadian ICS Note:
1) Download Odin, CWM tar, and superuser zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763896 Post # 3)
2) Install Odin
3) Copy superuser zip file to Phone
4) Start Odin and browse for the CWM tar file in the PDA section
5) Put the phone into download mode (VOLUME DOWN + POWER, then VOLUME UP)
6) Connect Phone to PC
7) Flash CWM with Odin
8) As the phone is rebooting, take out the battery. This is done to avoid the script install-recovery.sh from reinstalling stock recovery
9) Put battery back and boot into recovery (VOLUME UP + VOLUME DOWN + POWER, Release POWER after first vibration)
10) Install superuser ZIP from CWM, you are now rooted
11) Reboot phone
12) Install root explorer or ES File explorer and enable root operations and /system mount on them.
13) Find /etc/install-recovery.sh and rename it to install-recovery.sh.bkp
14) Repeat steps 4 to 7
15) Reboot. You should now have CWM and Root.
Thanks to SKyRocKeting727 and aleks07.
This could not have come at a better time...I was just sitting down at my computer to try this...Wish me luck
Success won't come from luck but it will from reading every step twice at least before any clicks or taps.
Thanks so much! Worked like a charm! Just finished nandroid backup of stock Bell rom with SU.
Getting ready to Try Flapjaxx UCLF6 rom.:good:
This thread should be stickied...
worked! thanks a lot
With ES File Explorer, I get "Sorry, operation failed" attempting to rename install-recovery.sh. I installed Terminal Emulator, and tried a simple
Code:
su
mv /etc/install-recovery.sh /etc/install-recovery.sh.bkp
to which I get "Read only file system"
I checked back in SuperUser, and ES Explorer (and Terminal) have root allowed; es file explorer has Root Explorer enabled in settings.
Ideas?
Edit: I realise the OP lists "install_recovery.sh", but I have no such file, just "install-recovery.sh". The contents are exactly what you'd think, though, conditional test to restore the recovery image.
Second Edit: I am an idiot. I missed "Mount /, /system as writable". Carry on, nothing to see here
THANKS MAN!!!!! it worked!
I've been trying for days to figure this out.
It appears I didn't have to do steps 12 - 15? My phone appears to be rooted and CWM is installed.:good:

You'll find, though, that after you reboot into Android, CWM will be gone. You'll still have root though. To find the file in ES File Explorer, you'll need to go into ES's settings and enable:
Up to root
Root Explorer
/, /system write able
Then you just click up until you get to /, then click Etc, and install-recovery.sh will be in there.

You are with Bell, I am with Rogers, and my friend is with Telus, and we all had to do the renaming of the script. I'm not really sure why some have to do it and some don't. Also, not sure why AT&T Notes don't have to do it.
