On Odin, you need to make sure you have Re-Partition selected. It is under the device name on the left hand side. Also, make sure you have a pit.
http://www.mediafire.com/?31u1g1ef05jvebd
Also, make sure you are putting the ED04 file in the PDA section and not phone section.
Here is a more in depth guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14731827&postcount=1
If you need any more help don't be afraid to ask.

Just create a file (file name is disable-lagfix) under /sdcard/Voodoo.
You can use root explorer to create that file.
And then reboot.
Or in CWM recovery, use toggle option (disable voodoo for next time boot).

i think omj is going to change his op on af...ill copy that over when he does
When I get in Odin and select CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5, it fails.
I did not touch any settings in Odin, just clicked PDA and selected that file.
Edit: Redownloaded that file and got it to work. I am now having an issue when applying update.zip... it starts but then comes up with an exclamation point inside of a triangle and the little Android guy... phone reboots fine.
Did you get this solved? Check out the thread at AF I had the same problem

ok so i havent been able to find a full answer..but does this leave the device in DI01 or 05 or 09?
just by looking at the files it seems as if it goes from 05 to 09 but once in about phone>build number it reads : DI01
so im just looking for a little clarification here..just rooted my Facinate minutes ago so im still stuck in the whole mindset of the Incredible.
I tried this. Have EA28. Not sure how. Didn't install. Saw install screen on phone last night and hit cancel.
Anyway, Ran Odin, CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5, reboot, blue text, apply sdcard:update.zip, switched to red text, install zip from sd card, choose zip from sd card, su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip, choose zip from sd card, DJ05_DL09_kernel.zip (plain kernel due to dl09), ran titanium backup, could not acquire root priv.
Startup screen has sound, but not animation anymore. Installed superuser and it shows titanium backup under "allow". When I run TB, I get the error screen and below in another small screen says, "Titanium Backup has been granted superuser permissions". But can't get anywhere to backup apps. Says Root Access: Failed.
ideas?
Another thing that confused me was the red cwm says voodoo lagfix recovery v2.5.1.x. I thought you weren't supposed to use any voodoo for DL30? Not that I've made it that far due to titanium backup issue, but....
Can anyone confirm whether or not this to sure does or doesn't work with ea28? My wife updated he phone and now she wants it rooted.
Edit this does work for EA28. Everything went smoothly. Thanks nitsuj.

EA28 going to DL09?
Hello..
I am just getting around to rooting my fascinate now. I have EA28. From the instructions, it appears you are going back to DL09. Is that correct? What is the significance of that? Should I care?
Thanks in advance!
This thread is old and should be deprecated. The directions still work, but you need to use the Odin package of ClockworkMod in this thread (it's the very first item linked) instead of the md5 file (DL05_DJ09) above.
However, if you're going custom the thing you should *really* do is Odin in one of the full-Froyo packages. This will include both root and recovery.

Thanks S44. My goal is to go froyo, but I need to be rooted first in order to do that.
I have been reading all the threads but many of them are very long. The DL30 thread is over 50 pages long.
So should I:
1) follow the instructions in this thread but use the new ClockworkMod then
2) update to froyo.
What is the most current thread for updating to froyo on the fascinate while after I am rooted?
Appreciate it.

Actually, no you don't. Download mode is magic. You *do* need to be rooted to back up apps with Titanium, if you want to do that. In that case, follow the directions above (with the new recovery). Then back up your user apps + app data.
Whether or not you do this, you should move to Froyo with a full-Odin package. Download the ROM you want (either Nameless, Super Clean, or whatever) in zip form to your SD card. Follow the directions here (under "Most Thorough Method of Fixing Every Problem You Might Have") using the first two files here and the recovery I mentioned in my previous post. Yes, this is sort of overkill, but better to avoid stuff like corrupted dbdata from the beginning and not have to fix it later.
You might want to wait a day or so because it looks like jt is finally fixing up Clockwork.
EDIT: I read almost all of the 52 pages of the DL30 thread to realize that DL30 is out of date . I guess Its going to be EB01 or Superclean. Do you know if Superclean has the audio out via USB working for the docks?
I have some questions in regards to picking ROMs:
I am a little confused in where to find the latest versions. For example in the "most thorough me..." thread, there is a link to super clean version form 3/30/2011 yet wiki has super clean from last year. Where can I look at all the ROMs and descriptions?
Which froyo ROM would you recommend? I love Google's stock froyo, but I also want to use the fascinate's USB audio out on the car and desktop dock. I also would like to wifi tether.
Thanks again!
This post had a link to download ODIN but it was removed. Could you please provide that link again. It also had a link to "Samsung Drivers", don't I need that too?
I am going to take a shot at following the ""Most Thorough Method..." steps tomorrow morning and install superclean on my Facinate. Quick Q: In step one, it simply says to ODIN EB01. I can just do this without being rooted?
Also, you said jt is fixing up clockwork. What do you mean by this, what exactly does not work?
I know these are noob questions, but I am just starting out with this.
Thanks
Driver links are here. Odin is here.
Yes, download mode lets you Odin in complete firmware packages without root.
Most people are using Super Clean, so that has the most support (and themes), but there are some odd issues floating around with it. My guess is that a lot of those issues have to do with not cleaning up in the super-thorough way I'm suggesting, and with the permissions bug after flashing a theme (below). There's also navendrob's EC10-based "Nameless" ROM, and ahmgsk's DL30-based "TrulyFascinating" ROM. Nameless is good but he's about to drop a version 4 with a lot of fixes, so you might wait a day or so for that. TrulyFascinating seemed to be pretty good (heavily stability-tested), but he hasn't updated it in a while (busy with more recent Epic leaks, I guess). You might try running it with one of the state-of-the-art EC10 Voodoo kernels.
There are a couple of Clockwork bugs, but the one causing the most current problems is that the old one couldn't fix permissions properly. This causes issues after making a change to the /system after the initial ROM flash, generally when you flash a theme on top of it. The new one I linked above *can* fix permissions, but still requires you to manually mount /dbdata beforehand (actually, go to the "mounts and storage" submenu and make sure /system /dbdata and /data are all mounted -- that is, the option referring to them says "unmount", which will happen when they're mounted -- before you go to the "advanced" submenu and run the fix permissions script). The new new one coming soon will just fix it without a problem, and do other stuff too.
Once again thanks. I have everything I need....or so I thought.
I restored my phone to factory, loaded the drivers, fired up ODIN and added the PDA and PIT. I hit start.... nothing happens. "All threads complete, succeed 0 / failed 0"
Looks like I am missing something. Do I need to somehow tell ODIN where the phone is? I don't see a way to do that.
PS in step 4 its states "ODIN the CWM Recovery package ROM from this post". Does CWM bin file go into PDA or phone in ODIN?
I one again apologize for my noobiness.
The Clockwork step comes after you do the full package and boot with that.
Make sure you have Odin open *before* you connect the phone in download mode.

[Q] 3e Recovery - temp root fail

Needing some help with 3eRecovery. I understand every thread I've read on how to do these things, but it doesn't work the way everyone says. Explanation below.
____________________________________________
I'm definitely rooted... have superuser and test with Terminal Emulator. su works fine. Even tested root with Titanium Backup. It works.
Trying to install 3e recovery, to get CWM3, to get KA6+voodoo kernel. 3e recovery installer fails root check every time.
From what I've read, if you're already permanently rooted, the modified 3e recovery installer would stop checking for temporary root. This is clearly not the case here. I've even tried running SuperOneClick to shell-root the device, which it succeeds at, but this does not change any results from the 3e recovery installer.
I have even used Odin3 to start from scratch on the machine, taking it all one step at a time, back from the original Eclair ROM+KRNL, Kies upgrade to KA6, SuperOneClick.
oh, and yes, I've tried installing the KA6 stock+voodoo kernel through Odin. Odin says it succeeds, the phone reboots, but there is no difference. I've installed the Voodoo Control app, but it shows that there's no Ext4 conversion. Am I doing something wrong? Is my phone doing something weird?
I really wanna get rid of the rfs system. absolutely hating it. There are two images attached proving root and showing results of 3eRecovery
I'm obviously studying the XDA Vibrant Bible, but here's some other links I'm using:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480
Did you try reboooting into recovery to see if you have it properly installed?
definitely have... plus it fails at the temp root check, would it do that if the 3eRecovery were installed properly? I'd think it'd fail later.
and yes, I've tried installing CWM3 through Rom Manager a couple of times after attempting the 3eRecovery, and the "install package" choice repeats and repeats and repeats, I never see the CWM Recovery.
Is it telling you there's no more room in /system? Remove a bloat app like Slacker Radio to free up some space if you haven't already. Good luck!
Sent from my rough sketch of a Vibrant on a brick.
no... I saw that message once a while back, before I restored to original krnl and rom, the jfd one I think. but since I did that and started from scratch, this is the first problem I've run into.
Q: if I use the 512 pit file with the KA6+voodoo krnl tar found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480) in Odin v.1.7, shouldn't that accomplish the same thing as cracking the recovery and using CWM to load up the zip version? when I try to use the Odin version, nothing changes? is that what you mean when you ask if my /system is full?
I'll remove some apps (i use Slacker) like Ads to Home, T-Mobile TV, etc. I'll let you know if Odin works any better. but I don't anticipate anything changing.
She issue here. CWM won't install, even after a supposed 3e flash.

Repartition choice in Odin
For others suffering this and other seemingly unfathomable problems with a Galaxy S phone... reset phone to official/full/original ROM+KRNL (JFD in my case) and use the re-partition choice in Odin. after I did that, I rerooted with SuperOneClick, installed a Terminal Emulator, and manually removed some of the bloatware that came with it.
Don't know which one of these fixed it, but the 3eRecovery installer worked after that... I downloaded the ROM Manager again, did the CWM that is included with that, had to click "reinstall packages" twice, but then it worked.
Thanks for the tip Droidificator. Don't know for sure if it's it, but I'm sure it didn't hurt.

lol... great irony in all of this is that Kies updated my phone to KB5 instead of KA6, so now I'm looking at using OCLF for the ext2 tools for now.
any advice on where to go from here to have the most efficiency out of this phone from the KB5?
make sure that a current version of busybox is installed. i had an issue with this when i ODIN'd back to stock and re-rooted. good luck with everything!

After rushing in, ODIN is not helping me to recover =(

Hi I'm a new member,
I rooted my fascinate easily enough. Then searching and learning about ROMs and Kernels I decided to do use ODIN CWM Recovery to 'backup' or whatever most forums tell you to before installing a new ROM. Point is my phone is stuck in manual boot mode and I cannot undo it.
I have tried multiple times using ODIN plus the four stock files
Stock-i500-VZW-Kernel.tar.md5
Stock-i500-VZW-pit.pit
Stock-i500-VZW-Recovery.tar.md5
Stock-i500-VZW-System.tar.md5
(I always would try to implement them in order pit/system, pit/kernel, pit/recovery)
Unfortunately after the first one (pit/system) ODIN says the process fails, I go ahead with the other two and they both amount to nothing happening. My phone does not reset or do anything for this matter and I am forced to shut down ODIN and unplug my phone (upon which it dies with no battery).
Then I put back in the battery and Im back to before in manual boot mode with
Reboot system Now
Apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory rset
wipe cache partition
Btw wiped data and wiped cache and it didn't help me =(.
Please someone help me, I really don't want this new phone to be dead... Thanks in advance
Oh and when I press "apply sdcard:update.zip" I receive
E:Can't mount \dev\block\vold\179:9
(No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted.
I really don't care at all about keeping the phone rooted or not or whatever. I just want to be able to make calls again!
So it looks like you're stuck in blue recovery ... sounds like something that Odining a stock package should fix.
Here is a nice thread for getting back to stock (it's a sticky in the general section). The packages include system, recovery, kernel, and radio in a single file (I've actually never odin'd four separate files to get back to stock, or even ever flashed a system-only file), though no pit file.
So open up odin with your phone in download mode (with the battery out, otherwise there's a small chance of odin stalling at the end), and use:
- either the DI01 all-in-one, EB01 all-in-one, or this DL09 package in PDA
- the pit file in PIT (the link says DI01/EB01 but it also works with DL09)
- check "re-partition" if it isn't already checked
- run odin and hopefully in five minutes your phone will work again If for some reason it doesn't, that thread has instructions for using heimdall, although I've never had to resort to it.
So try this and see if it works! (For which package to use, I'd suggest trying DL09 first (since you'll need it to get to the official froyo build) and DI01 if that fails. If you're wondering whether DL09+pit actually works, I've used it to get out of a "stuck in blue recovery after odining stuff" situation myself so yes, it works.)
Thank you for the response! It's encouraging to hear any support and I think yours is promising.
So unfortunately I tried D101 and no go. Turns out this was before I realized this was for 2.1 and I'd prefer 2.2 for the upgrades. Although would you suggest 2.1 for the purpose of rooting/ROMing/Kerneling in the future? I ask because I'm slowly gaining confidence that after fixing this I might be willing to try this again...
Odin (1.7 -> I decided at your poster friend's advice to upgrade from 1.3) worked well said 'pass' and everything. Unfortunately when booting my phone it went straight to the boot screen as always.
Meanwhile I'm downloading the EB01 and your suggested DL09 to test those two.
Hopefully one of those will work but if not, I guess I'll try that heimdall technique the poster suggested in the other forum. Hopefully not tho b/c it looks a bit more complicated.
I'll let ya know if one of these others works.
Yes it worked!! Thank you so much! I would buy you a round at the ale house if I could!
After running EB01 it worked (with the pit file going all the way back to factory settings). So I'm not sure what this means - maybe since it was after upgrading to 2.2 that my phone bugged out, it could only be restored to the 2.2 state which is EB01?? Idk, thanks anways.
Oh ya for the future if I try do this again - would you suggest I stay away from ROM Manager for backing up, which I believe is what started this problem in the first place? It seemed like ODIN did a fine job of managing my OS. Any thoughts? Thankss!!

Definately stay away from rom manager cwm if you have the voodoo lagfix enabled, but since all the new fascinate roms are edify scripted, flashing through cwm in rom manager would be ok.

[Q] Clockwork recovery won't boot.

I gained root access through superoneclick gingerbreak. It gave me the superuser app and i downloaded rom manager but whenever i try to get to clockwork recovery mode it keeps going to samsung recovery. No matter how many times I hit re-install packages it goes back to the samsung recovery. What did I do wrong? Should I have gained root another way? Should I try to flash back to 2.1? first off dont use gingerbreak. Just odin back to stock and then root by installing the update package twice and after twice ur recovery should turn blue to green.

no modded 3e recovery..so it will keep going to Stock recovery. You need to do what movie said or flash a voodoo kernel or flash a modded 3e recovery.
Interestingly enough I have the same problem, 100% rooted, super user access no issue, busy box installed, root manager installed.
I upgraded the 2.1 to 2.2 from the kies mini software.
I have been doing a ton of reading and would like to start flashing roms, etc etc.
Through titanium backup, I have un-installed a large mount of apps and have not suffered any problems as of yet, but would like to try some custom roms.
My question is, since I uninstalled alot of things, only apps that are bloatware, and since I can't get my clockwork recovery console to take affect, do I have to follow post #2?
Is this link the right one taken out of the link from post #2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
Is this the final and correct link, since I do not store data on my phone, and all contacts are on my sim card, and really haven't done any customizations to anything really, can I just odin back and not back anything up? All I use my phone for is calls, txt's and internet, I don't bookmark anything, I don't save txts and call logs mean nothing to me?
I assume I will have to re-root my phone again and do the same procedures, etc etc.
Also as a side note, I am a minimalist type of person, that's why I use linux at home, no windows of any kind (I'll do this procedure at work). Any roms out there that can handle my needs of simply calls, txt'ing and internet without all the other stuff? I don't use GPS, I don't facebook or social network, I don't play games on my phone. I do need however, the use of the camera and video recorder.
Thanks.
I would just follow my advice and odin back to stock its really easy and safe to do. Well if the only apps u have left are bloatware and u dont save anything else i guess u wont need to back anything up before odin. Well the thing its alot easier to root 2.1 then 2.2.
Once ur at 2.1 just do the root process of installing update package twice and after twice ur recovery will turn from blue to green.
follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9375927
the eclair guide
heres the steps for download mode just in case:
power off phone
pull out battery
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
So, is this the right link from the guide you posted, it's amazing, I read so many things today that It's easy to get a little well, brain farty, ya know.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
Also, I have the kies mini drivers installed, that's how I updated from 2.1 to 2.2 so I assume those will work fine?
BTW, this is the coolest community, props to all involved!!!

Yep, that seems to be the consensus, thank you
Guys,
A huge thanks, odin'd back to 2.1, rooted, removed the bloatware I didn't want, gonna make a nandroid back, then proceed on to bionix.
I can understand how first time users can get nervous but once done, the process really is not that hard, just takes patience and making sure everything is prep'd before doing so.
I hope I can now help others if you guys don't beat me to it first
My only question is this: when I create my nandroid backup, where does it go and do I need to save it somewhere just in case like a usb key or something along those lines or does it reside on the phone. Only asking cause I have not yet done this step
U can always make a extra backup and store them on ur ext sd
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Okay, so I assume the backup, made from rom manager "backup current rom" gets stored to the internal memory on the phone?
Any special settings or it just does it's thing, should be smaller than normal as I removed quite a bit of junk and stuff.
i did what you said and i still cant get into clockwork recovery screen! i went back to stock rom, reinstalled packages twice and i still have samsung recovery. i know i have root because i get the super user asking me to give clockwork root access!
So I assume you odin'd back to 2.1, rooted have installed titanimum backup and busy box, rom manager, tapped the flash clockworkmod recovery, then "reboot in recovery" choose update. I rebooted via the rom manager menu, not via the phone itself. I had to update twice immediately, didn't reboot and do it again. I saw it installing and it kinda hung, then used the volume down to update again, and was completed.
Also after installing titanium there was an update for super user, which I also installed as well. Did you do this? Not sure if it has any bearing but thought it was worth mentioning.
It worked seamlessly for me, I had to update twice, then purple turned to green and all is well.
Can you post your steps you took to get back to 2.1, how you rooted, etc etc?
It's kinda fresh in my mind as I only did it about 2 hours ago.
my screw up after i flashed clockwork and rebooted i didnt apply package. all is good now. thx for all the info!
Anytime, I found the process to be quite interesting and taught me alot and also removed my fear of installing new roms and such.
Make sure to create your backup through rom manager. When you do, it will reboot into clockwordrecovery and show you the progress, didn't take that long for mine but I removed alot of nonesense from 2.1. This will be your emergency fall back, you might know this already but just making sure, as I am quite a noob at this point ROFL!
Enjoy
ps - I still can't decide on a new rom, I'm so fussy about stuff, ugh.

prepping for custom roms

hi,
im trying to flash a custom rom onto my vibrant.
but i've got a question regarding the phone starting stage.
i got the phone from craigslist and it seems the phone is slightly modded:
-it's got a "overstock" logo when you first start up the phone.
-when i boot the phone using the pressing of two volume keys and power button, i get "clockworkmod recovery v2.5.1.3- voodoo lagfix" in red color.
What i want to ask is do I have to get rid of these mods first before i flash custom roms to prevent future problems? If so, how do i get rid of these mods?
if i dont have to get rid of these mods first, do i just follow this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
also, i can flash custom roms without rooting right?
thanks
the phone is already rooted for you, to verify you should see the superuser app in your app drawer. Its a skulled android head. You can install any custom rom that already had voodoo enabled without disabling it. If you like you can disable it by going to the voodoo option and disabling it on the next boot. I wouldn't worry about it because most of these current roms have voodoo. What rom were you planning to flash?
hi thanks for the reply.
but i don't think my phone was rooted cuz there was no superuser logo.
so i did root it using the superoneclick method.
however, im in trouble now cause i accidentally formatted the internal sd thinking that'd disable the voodoo lagfix. (the guy i bought it from said he applied the lag fix- i wanted to disable it cause i'm trying to flash the team whiskey 1.3.1 and the site guideline said it'd brick my phone unelss i disable the lagfix- stupid i know)
But i did the phone backup using the rom manager and i restored, but my pics are still not there?
am i screwed here or can i recover somehow the pics from my phone using the backup file?
thanks!

hi thanks for the reply.
but i don't think my phone was rooted cuz there was no superuser logo.
so i did root it using the superoneclick method.
