android 2.3.4 for the hero can't exist...))) You have to have a custom ROM so you can get this version....maybe you got updated to 2.1 update 1...
To get root @ hero you can do this via universal androot...it's a app that can make root after you install it from the sd card...just open it and select to root it, and after that you will see an icon that has the name Superuser
Stefan
btw if you say that you have android 2.3.4...can i u take a picture so i can see

1) Don't make new threads all the time, there was just created a new thread about this -.-
2) You don't have an HTC Hero G2 touch, you have an HTC G2, and I think that is the phone known as Desire Z. Does your phone have a hardware slider keyboard like i think it has? If so your in the totally wrong forum...

Ok sorry guys. Only posted it two times cause no one replied but thank you very much for ur help guys.

I don't know the answer about OTA updates after rooting, but to be honest, I'd be surprised if another OTA update ever happens for the Hero.

Oh ok n also I was readi thru my phone n it shows that what he's doin is instalin a costum rom n wouldn't do erase everythin on my phone?
Yes, installing a custom ROM would erase everything on your phone (although he also instructs you on how to do a nandroid backup of your previous setup). However, if all you want to do is root the phone you can do that without having to do any of the other stuff. Just download, install, and run Universal Androot as instructed in that thread, and you should have root without doing any other changes to the phone or your data.
Unfortunately rooting the T-Mobile G2 Touch isn't as simple as rooting a standard Hero GSM, T-Mobile made it quite difficult. I would suggest following this thread or using this tool
And if you don't install a custom rom or a rooted stock rom, your recovery will be overwritten, and you'll lose root on the first reboot.
The unrooted stock rom overwrites the recovery when rebooted.
Correct me if I'm wrong

Good point, I think you right in which case you will need to install a rooted stock ROM at the very least, which would mean wiping all your data
Sorry, I didn't know the G2 required a different rooting method.
Anyways, on my standard unlocked Hero I did not loose root when rebooting on the stock ROM, although as you said it did overwrite my recovery. I do not know if this is the case on the G2.

T-Mobile did some pretty nasty stuff security-wise compared to the standard GSM Hero so rooting is a bit different. As for what happens on reboot I can't comment, but I would recommend using a custom ROM anyway, something like [email protected]'s MCR is great for someone who just wants it working like stock but with better performance. You should be able to add something like FlyKernel to it for the overclock.

Agreed. Once you go custom, you won't go back.
Guys, I think he's actually talking about T-Mobile G2 as in http://www.gsmarena.com/t_mobile_g2-3518.php, and not T-Mobile G2 Touch (HTC Hero). Notice the system specs in the first post

Please, switch to G2 forum from now on, as this thread is offtopic in this one.
sucessful tmobile G2 temp root using VISIONary r14 this morning!
I tried ROOT on my new tmobile G2 (GSM) I bought last week. I tried Universal Androot AND z4root and neither worked to get even temp root.
This morning, I used VISIONary r14 and sucessfully gained su root and disabled a few of the branding and blotware apps on MY phone! I still haven't been able to uninstall them completely, but at least they aren't starting automatically on boot. Here's the link that worked:
android.modaco.com/content/software/320350/19-nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/
these branded apps are WAY annoying! I'm not good with outfits like facebook and twitter having access to all my personal info and data, including fine GPS location!! and I can hardly believe tmobile imbedded these apps as they did. I'm still within my 14-day trial and may still return the phone because of this unless I can be sure I can get these apps OFF my back!

[Q] How to get OTA's after Rooting / Unrooting?

Hi Friends,
I rooted my device Desire HD and then, I unrooted it.
Its back as it was when I first bought it,
Ther problem is it is still not Updating, it's been 2 months since I unrooted it,
My android version is 2.2 froyo,
My software no: 1.32.405.6
My build no.: 1.23.405.6 CL278359
Baseband version is: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
The Question is how can I upgrade it to Gingerbread.......
Thanks.
First of all, just for the future; the title "How ????????" doesn't attract people. The title should be a proper title about the topic of the thread.
On topic: Are you running stock ROM? Have you tried to type in *#*#CHECKIN#*#* on your dialpad? (*#*#2432546#*#*). This will force the phone to check for updates.
Thank you again
Sorry for the Title.....
Well I typed the (*#*#2432546#*#*) on my dial pad and it said checkin succeeded...
but no update was done ..
What should i do next
Thanks in advance

Well you could Root it again, install a custom recovery and flash a Gingerbread ROM yourself?

Can I upgrade it to software version to: 1.84.661.1 Release Key.
So I can Upgrade it on air to gingerbread 2.43.661.1 Release Key

Look for ROMs that have [STOCK] in the thread title like this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059563
I'm not sure if that one does, but some will allow you to continue receiving OTA updates.
Be patient, look around the forums and do your research.
I am still a beginner with it
So should i root first then install the ruu gingerbread or i should just install it without rooting?

1. I recommend using a custom ROM, only because its faster and you get better performance.
2. Yes. If you are will to do it, I have an easy way how.
3. Most if not all ROMS are better than than stock.
4. Only if you downgrade software from 2.3 to 2.2 you will brick your phone. Correct me if I am wrong though on this one other xda members. I am willing to help, just let me know.

cm7 is the best unless you want webtop or fingerprint scanner

amazon..co.uk buy
Hello everyone i'm new to this forum and i would like to know what i should do with my atrix.
I bought it off of amazon.co.uk (i live in england) and i would like to know how to root it. (i run Gingerbread, by the way)I know you must be thinking oh what an idiot follow the tutorials, but i keep seeing AT&T everywhere so im wondering what's up with that, and why are some of the roms only compatible with AT&T. Oh, and i searched allready too.
Have you tried this? ... http://www.psouza4.com/Bionic/
At the top, it says "This method works on Motorola phones running Android OS 2.3.4 or earlier." There is no mention of AT&T.
Hope this helps
thanks! yeah i looked at that, but i still dont get the whole AT&T thing for ROM. As im in england i cant get AT&T but thanks anyway for that root method!
The AT&T thing is because there is an Atrix International and an Atrix 4G from AT&T. Its mostly same specs, barely 3g bands.

Hi I was thinking of buyinga atrix I just have a few questions if u can help me.
1.how well is the fingerprint recognition?
2.is there a official ginber bread or a custom working one with all features of the phone working.
3.is the internel memory different from provider to provider (I know the bloatware by providers use up a bit of the memory).
4.also is any features missing by any providers (I can remember tmobile sometimes would remove front facing cameras on certain devices).
5.I heard there is screen issues how true is this? Also are there any other issues.
Sorry for so many questions .
Thanks using htc sensation at the moment.

Official update

Hi,
I'm looking for a gingerbread rom to install on my friend's Optimus One. I myself have ZTE Blade and I have been installing custom roms and that sort of stuff for some time so I know how this work, but I'm looking for a stable, plain and unrooted rom for my friend's phone as he is not the most tech savvy guy out there. I found the official 2.3.3 update from LG but I've been reading that it's very buggy. What would you guys recommend?
Thanks in advance,
Arnar.

I think most if not all custom roms are rooted. If you're looking for something stable, IMO go for oxygen v1.1. Old baseband though.

One more thing... On ZTE Blade we have gen1 and 2 phones (same specs, different partition layout and radio if I understand correctly), certain roms will not work on gen1 phones and such. Does the optimus one have something equivalent to that? If i want to install Oxygen v1.1, like you suggested, is it as simple as rooting, installing custom recovery and flashing the rom?

By all means, yes!
But the O1 has 2 two basebands - v10xx and **** v20xx
If you wanna check which one you have go to -
settings>about phone
And there will be written the baseband version.
If its v10xx then you can proceed with the steps you've mentioned.
Read the sticky FAQ in this section for more details.

LG official gb has no bugs ,, the only problem is that it drains 1% battery every hour... whenever i wake up in the morning i notice that 6-8 % battery is drained... while cm7 roms drain only 2% per night btw if your friend is not techno freak then official gb is best as it has no bugs and you may flash franco.kernel for gb over official gb to give it more smoothness

[Q] HTC One X+ Stock Rom WITHOUT root

Hello,
I've just bought an fresh new HTC One X+ 64GB (last stock from HTC probably, it was very cheap , just 150€)
It bring the ROMv4.1.2 that I like very much
Somehow the phone gets updated via WI-fi to ROM v4.2.2
The reason why I post again this topic is because I've searched and searched to revert to v4.1.2 and always read the word Impossible!!!
The phone heats a lot, the battery lost capacity and I HATE HATE and HATE the ROM v4.2.2.
The question that I leave here to you guys, is really IMPOSSIBLE TO revert to Original ROMof my phone WITHOUT ROOT?
As the phone is quite new, I don't want to lose the warranty!
I've seen a lot of videos on youtube saying stock rom without root, but they use the fastboot, that it seam to be the ROOT!
I've rooted already my Samsung ACE2 and updated using Odin, but on HTC I'm quite newbie.
Can anyone help.
thanks in advance,

Hi,
Thanks for you reply
Just an additional info:
Today I've called to HTC Portugal, and received an very negative feedback.
Means that they are not able to downgrade to v4.1.2!!!!
This is annoying to me and unacceptable for me.
Why I can't get my phone back as I purchased?!!!!
I still on the way to press HTC Portugal, but seems to get some resistance.
I really like the word "impossible" in software matters!
HTC is giving me and different opinion now, at least in Portugal!
Can anyone inform if fastboot for HTC is the same has the so called ROOT?
Until now I've no certainty!
I've read posts saying "downgrade without ROOT" and using fastboot!!!
I'm afraid if using fastboot that lost the warranty!!!!

The thing is you cannot downgrade HBOOT ( the bootloader) and thus you cannot downgrade to 4.1.2
if you want to, install the android rev 8 HD rom, it is essentially sense 5 4.2.2, but i think you can set it to install without like root and xposed

Thanks for the direct answer
I was wondering that some how possible to downgrade!
Probably that's why HTC Portugal says they won't Downgrade! Not because they don't want to, but because is technically impossible!
Thanks
