[Q] Going from Comm Rom to TSM Resurrection? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Want to upgrade from Comm rom 2.1 with the voodoo kernel it came with, probably to the recent TSM Resurrection 1.0. Looks like there's another compatible voodoo kernel out, can I flash that first, and then the new rom? Or do I need to undo voodoo and go back to stock, starting from there? Not sure what radio I'm on, baseband says EB01.
Sorry if these questions suck, I haven't upgraded for months. Looking for opinions on best order of operations here is all! Thanks everyone.

Odin PWGB 2. 0 which is a complete tar package. Then flash tsm res in Cwm. Then you can choose your kernel and lag fix settings
TSM Resurrection 1.0,TKSGB10-18,XIX,ec09 radio.

This is a question. Questions go in the ......question and answer forum.
To answer your question, these are all bml roms. Assuming that you have an ec09 or later radio you should be able to flash it after wiping data unless the Op of the new rom says that it requires the gingerbread bootloaders.

Damn, figured I would do something wrong, maybe a mod can move this.
Thanks for the tips guys.

In case it helps anyone, this worked perfectly. I have so far kept the kernel that comes with PWGB2.0 to see how it is, but I miss the BLN tools and voodoo sound.

You don't necessarily need to disable voodoo if you go from a ROM with Voodoo 5.x enabled kernel to another ROM that utilizes Voodoo infused kernel. I've done it jumping from nero beta v3 with supercurio's jl4 kernel to nerov2+voodoo jl4 to nerov3+voodoo jl5. However, it is recommended to ODIN back to stock before jumping from ROM to ROM. It is also suggested to disable Voodoo just in case, I am just playing danger ranger

[RELEASE] EB01 rom, kernel, radio

Here it is folks, in its bloated, ugly, and nasty touchwiz self. Kernel is included in the package. Rooted and busybox, only.
How to install, coming from Eclair:
1. Boot phone to download mode, and flash modem via Odin. Use pda button.
http://www.mediafire.com/?1r7uk6gf8d6s76z
2. Boot to clockwork recovery, and wipe data/factory reset. Then install rom.

3. Before rebooting, also install the new clockwork package.

4. Boot up and enjoy...or hate. Your mileage may vary!

It's supposedly official.
Im running it now - if you go to software update it says its disabled on engineering builds. That would lead me to think it will be recompiled again, even if for no good reason.
Does anyone know if DL30 Themes work on the new build?
So if I'm on DL30 the leak all I need to do is flash the EB01modem.tar and flash EB01 in recovery to run this?

How might i flash the EB01 radio with Heimdall? I have tried. I am currently running the DJ05 radio with DL30 superclean 1.0
It was my understanding that a froyo update to the SGS line brings the necessary bootloader modification that is needed for our phone and heimdall to work together. DL30 is froyo... ostensibly that means we have the modified bootloader.
When i try to flash the EB01 radio with heimdall, i hit start, and it says it cannot find a compatible device. Can anyone shed any light on this?
If I'm on dl30 can I just flash the modem? I love my current setup

Voodoo Not Working In Bionix-V 1.3.1 TouchWiz Edition

I have 2 Samsung Vibrants( t-959 ), and I installed two versions of Bionix, and still, no voodoo! It says something about the kernel not supporting extended sound controls.
Additional Info -
Firmware: 2.2
Baseband: T959UVKB1
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: Bionix-v 1.3.1 By Team Whiskey
Please help... Thanks!
Just try flashing a different kernel instead of a different ROM. Try Overstock or Tiger's Blood and see if that makes a difference.
I didnt know you could flash just the kernel! Thats pretty cool... Now how do I do it without messing up? Is there a tutorial, or do you just go into recovery, and install the sip like you would a ROM?
Did you go into recovery and enable voodoo and enable it to change your file system?
There are plenty of guides, take a look in the Bible or simply google, "how to flash kernel, vibrant."
Yes.
Here is a link to the kernel I'm using.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967861
My phone can handle the 2.2 version, but I would start out with the 1.4.2 version and see how that treats you.
In case you don't know, flashing through red recovery is done by pushing your power button and selecting Recovery, not by using clockworkmod.

You have voodoo, just not voodoo sound or color. Bionix 1.3 uses stock kernels so like others have said you should flash a custom kernel like Overstock. You flash kernels the same way you flash ROMs
Thanks for all the replies! Just to make sure I got this right, I downloaded and put onto the phones SD card Overstock 1.4.2. Now all I have to do is boot to Red Screen recovery, select the zip, and intall... Is this correct, or am I missing a step? I already backed up the stock ROM.

Hence the reason I said to flash Overstock or Tiger's Blood. You can even use Kernel Flasher from the market.

Correct, my friend. Just let us know if you have any other issues.
Thanks again guys! Only problem is I dont see that the Kernel was updated. Oh well, at least everything on Voodoo now works, and some of my apps seem to have a few new features... Plus it is QUICK! I went from 12.86 to 14.74 on linpack!

If you followed the steps by dnoyeb, then you are correctly set up on a debloated/deodexed ED01 ROM. Your baseband is the modem/radio and would not have changed after you followed Adrynalyne's post to get to ED01 quickly. You flashed imnuts' ED03 ODIN package which would have given you the stock ED03 ROM and kernel, but not the ED03 modem so you were still at ED01 modem which is fine. Then you followed dneyob's steps to flash the ED01 Debloated/Deodexed ROM which would have changed you to the ED01 build from ED03 build. For all intents and purposes ED01 and ED03 are the same thing. ED03 simply added in a fix for those people who could not receive the ED01 OTA update. The verizon and android both flashing at the same time is just an overlapping boot animation that happened because as I recall you could not do a complete data wipe/factory reset for fear of losing the verizon network while you are in India. So other than that little quirk of the overlapping boot animations, you should be exactly where you wanted to end up - a debloated ED01 ROM and with imnuts' -100mv kernel you should see better battery life if your phone can handle the undervolting.
Congrats!
i guess i did exactly as you have outlined,
i am now gonna caliberate the battery and will revert tomorrow about the backup and stuff
love ya

when i first was learning how to root and flash, the thread for the evilfascination rom taught me everything i know. it does a great job in describing the steps to root and then flash the rom. i personally stuck with the evil fascination because its been so stable from the getgo and i love the overall theme of it. I kept getting peculiar bugs with comrom that i did not know enough yet to try and fix.
I suggest you go to the fascinate android development forum, and read the evil fascination thread.
I updated my post on the first page with links incase anyone else was looking at a quick rundown with links on how to get to a fully rooted / debinged / debloated type setup quickly.

either one is ok I believe, if you want a certain kernel grab the ComRom with no kernel and flash your own
tapatalked from my super VZ Fascinate powered by CM7
But, if you're going to stick with a stock kernel you will need this one. So that cwm recovery flash will actually stick. Flash kernel using odin, boot, power down, pull batt, flash cwm in odin, insert batt 3 finger to recovery, flash no kernel rom, boot.
good day.
thanks, not sure if I will use stock kernel yet.
Let's say you flashed the ROM that had the built-in kernel already, can you still flash another kernel like OTBs or do you need to flash the stand-alone/no kernel distribution first? Also, can the kernel in the all-in-one package be OC'd or UC'd?
Thanks!

There is a version of ComRom which comes with OTB 1.5. OTB 1.6 is latest vesion but in not packaged with ComRom.
Yes you can flash other kernels after flashing rom/kernel package but if the new kernel is not voodoo make sure you disable the lagfix first. Also, if you use a non voodoo kernel do not enable the lagfix from CWM unless you flash a voodoo kernel again.
Lastly, OTB allows for voltage and clock adjustments. PBJ kernels are underclocked but I dont believe they are adjustable

Chopper you seem to be very knowledgable and informed concerning our phone. I have one more question I hope you can answer for me. Are there any advantages to using a non voodoo kernel instead of voodoo kernel with lagfix disabled?
Thank you I appreciate your help. I know a decent amount from post about the general rules for flashing/odin/heimdall/adb/voodoo but most threads on forums do not go into enough detail for the reader to know their limits when experimenting.

LOL...I dont post very often so I am still learning forum etiquette. I am more of a sit back and absorb guy.
Someone may come by and add to this or offer their own view and tell me that I'm a douche. But Ext4 (voodoo) does come with a small hit to the battery but offering up faster read write speeds and the other changes that may have been added i.e. bln, sound, uv, oc. Now yes you can use a uv'd voodoo kernel with a "disable lagfix" file in place so that your file system with be rfs (extending battery) but marginally slowing some operations down. Since the new voodoo control plus allows for the sound module to be loaded on any kernel on the fly, I find myself at the moment running comm rom 2.1 with an old EB01 kernel in rfs. And I have been real pleased with my battery over the last 3 days since using the "vintage kernel" in rfs, plus also having voodoo sound is a plus. I really missed how the buttons used to light up with the screen, but ever since we've had mesmerize source kernels the buttons need to be touched to light them up when waking the device. You just need to find your own kernel/rom combo for your needs. But I have never been in any race to have the highest quad score, I just like my device to work with the best battery and stability.
good day.
