What happened to metamorph? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently was wondering why none of the themes for the thunderbolt are for metamotph? I understand that with all the different versions and ports of sense that it would require many versions, but we also have that already with the flashable zips. Just wondering because I do a lot of custom themeing, and I use some of the zips as a start, wether I straight flash them or recompile them, but like all themes I always find something that looks broken or just not right to me, or something I want to adjust. Metamorph gives you way more freedom, plus some of these themes would probably work with more roms than just the one build its supposed to work with.

The T-Mobile theme engine happened. Most themers went from MM zips to Theme APKs on the market. It's just easier to make one theme for all AOSP devices than tons of themes that are device specific, plus you can make money on your themes now too =)

That's very true for asop, but not sense.

As one that creates themes/mods, there just hasn't been any outcry for it at all.
We theme so many apk's.. would become unwielding.

True that. I guess still being kind of a newb at this i've just found metmorph the easiest way to do custom stuff without the use of a PC. But that makes sense when making full themes.

Can we get a stickied thread in either this forum or the themes and apps forum for ROM/THEME makers that can have access to MODs and Confirmed working apps?
As things are now starting to pick up with development, more and more mods and apps are coming out. The problem is, if you like one MOD, and you flash it, but like another MOD that customizes something else, that later mod often overwrites it.
It would be nice to have a list of all the MODs, Apps, themes, etc. Where the other users can go in there and develop a ROM or Theme and include each of the mods they wish.
Of course, pending approvals from the makers of the Mods and Apps.
Example: I really like the Remix Theme, but I prefer the Evo Font, but if I install the Evo font zip after I installed the remix theme, it removes that theme. Make sense?

a good idea.... but our moderator isn't too sticky happy...lol
the best thing to do right now is to join the samsung-fascinate irc channel.... most of the dev's and modder's are always on their and were more then happy to help people out.
so like a sticky with all the themes and Mods

[IDEA] Theme LOADER Program

I figure since we have so many themes, and installing/uninstalling can get to be a pain when testing them out, wouldn't it be nice to have a program that can load themes easily and switch them out, as long as the themes are downloaded to some directory?
I'm not sure if this is even possible, but it would definitely be cool
That's basically what MetaMorph does.

+1
but if not using metamorph, some themes might not work with some roms because of the framework differences, hence causing complications.
oops! i did not realize the metamorph program. it sounds like its necessary for themes.

2 options, use metamorph to theme or use flashable zips. I personally prefer zips, but to each their own. Options are always good. Thank you Android.

Ya, metamorph can be handy for something things, but it has quite a few issues too:
1. It only marginally increases compatibility accross platforms. There's still quite a few variables and it doesn't make any attempt to figure them out.
2. There's no uninstall option, so you're still in the same boat in that you need the themer to provide an "uninstall morph".
3. Metamorph can't handle a great number of things like new images, a great number of color changes, or realistically anything in my theme lol
4. Metamorph is a bit buggy, quite frankly, requiring several attempts sometimes getting a theme to apply.
I've been trying to apply the Black Glass Swype theme from another thread that I had previously applied when my phone was running Eclair. Now that I've upgraded (via Kies Mini) to Froyo, MetaMorph doesn't apply the theme anymore... I've tore open the files both on my phone (to be replaced) and in the morph... names and everything match up nicely, but it doesn't apply the changes after running Metamorph. Anyone know of any issues with Metamorph compatability with Froyo on our phones???

No, metamorph isn't nearly that complex. Basically all it does is unzip the target .apk, push the files it has into the corresponding folders in the apk, then zip it back up. If it's not working, something has most likely changed in the target .apk.

Trigger Morph & Theme Help...

Hey guys,
I was wondering is there a way to tell which morphs and themes, on the older trigger will work on trigger 2.9.+. Also could someone who is skilled in morphing, and themes, take a look at all the requests they are throwing at birgertime? This rom is solid and a performer. It's that some ppl want to tweek the looks for their own wicked taste. I sadly am not skilled enough to get the job done
Thank you for any help
given that trigger is still kb1 based the frameworks will also be based off the kb1 frameworks.
that said anything that worked on 2.8.x SHOULD work on 2.9.x+. i cant be 100% certain as i am not using trigger. but worst case scenario you get a bootloop in which case just push the framework-res.apk from 2.9.x to /system/framework using adb in CWM recovery
All of the metamorphs in trigger_addons work.
My thread (signature) has a lot of the themes that work.
Problems only arise when trying to use themes that include other (non -res files) framework essentials like android policy or services, because the ones on Trigger are unique do to all the modifications.
Furthermore, the framework-res on Trigger has a couple of resources for the extra lock screen that might not be there from other themes. I'm not sure what the result would be if you picked the starwars lock screen would be if you chose a theme that didn't have the framework for it (which most probably wouldn't)
If that made any sense
But yeah, people throwing all these requests at me for personal preferences is getting to be too much

The only personal preference you need to worry about is yours... it's worked pretty well so far. People will learn how to customize on their own.
Maybe post links in your OP to helpful links?

Thank you I agree that you should make it to your liking. I just seen all the request and it was driving me nuts and it's not my rom lol. So I figured maybe someone could get them from begging and bugging you lol.

[THEME] MattedBlues for CM7 (test)

I just made this for someone on DA and thought some other people might want it too. I just want to make sure it actually works, so if you guys could test it I'd really appreciate it. Backup before flashing just in case something goes horribly wrong, don't blame me if your phone explodes (highly unlikely) or if you get bootloops (somewhat likely) and don't have a backup to restore from, blah blah blah. Original thread is here for images and such, and I don't know if I'll be maintaining this. It's pretty simple between cm7 roms though so it shouldn't be too hard.
I WILL NOT PORT THIS TO ANY OTHER ROMS NOR BE MAKING IT INTO A THEME CHOOSER APK. ASK AND I WILL EAT YOU.
BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP
download
changelog post or something just in case
Hey Thnikk,
It's me (Weredawg from DA)
It worked perfectly (CM7 x99 kernel)
Thank you so much for the port (oh and I asked a dumb question on DA, figured it out and realized you didn't want people to ask for a theme apk...)

It's cool, from what I understand the creator didn't want it to be a theme chooser app because it left a lot of stuff unthemed. If it ever becomes one, it'll be by him so anyone interested in that can take it up with him.
I'm really happy that it worked though, thanks
thanks it works just fine
I really love this theme, but I would like to test the other themes via CM7's theme chooser. Only thing is Matted Blues (this theme) is not set up that way.
How exactly would I go about taking this zip and have it work with CM7's theme chooser? So I can easily switch themes on the fly without having to reflash this one.
I'll also ask my Android class tomorrow.
There are some really talented folks in there.
UPDATE: Checked the original thread and it looks like the creator is going to make a theme chooser port.

This theme still works with theme chooser, it just replaces the stock (named system) theme. Basically, if you were to get the stock GB theme back, you'd just have green and orange highlights everywhere instead of blue. It may just be personal preference, but I think the blue looks better than stock GB.
If you want (for JAMT, no?), I could make a new package that includes the lockscreen [here] for you. It would only take 2 seconds
I could also make a post explaining the really easy way to theme stuff if you'd like.
Oh no that's fine.
I've been using Widgetlocker for all my lockscreen needs and the last update finally got rid of the stock Sense clock
I liked unlocking the Sense way but didn't like that clock.
Only thing I want really is to get the flashable zip you made, and turn it into a theme for CM7's theme chooser. But in your original post you said you would eat us if asked :X
Oh but learning how to theme stuff would be cool to know.
Thanks.

Sorry for not replying, it's finals week and I've been busy. EXCUSES EXCUSES EXCUSES.
Theme chooser app is in development right now and the dev says it should be available this/next week. I'd post a link but I'm on my phone and lazy.
And those directions... as easy as the process is, it's kind of hard to type out. Would you mind if I explained it in a video instead?

Awesome guide http://teambamf.net/showthread.php/718-How-to-flash-a-ROM
Easiest way is to download stuff from market such as beautiful widgets and go launcher. With those two you can download themes and widget packs that are much easier for a new comer to understand than flashing a theme that may break your Rom.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button
I've read that but like for cool themes it says I for CM7 or for DasBamf and like whars the difference between a rom and a theme x(

Roms are the operating systems of the phone, so to speak. Themes make them look how you want. For example, changing all button presses to blue. You need to install a rom, as someone linked a few posts up. Then from there you will have to install the theme. If its a sense based rom and theme (similar to what your phone was stock), then the theme will be flashed through recovery. If it is an AOSP rom and theme (CM7, OMGB) then there is a theme changer included in the apps to easily change themes. I suggest you read the faq's on here and on the other sites to grasp how to flash roms before you tackle themes so you don't get yourself into too much trouble! Good luck.

haha... I have a feeling you confused him even more.
I find its impossible to explain what a ROM is to someone. Only way for them to understand is to see it and use it with their own eyes.

Well i tried. "A" for effort? haha
Here is a little write up on what a rom is for him if he's confused
http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/05/01/custom-roms-for-android-explained-and-why-you-want-them/
you have 2 options also.
1. find theme you want first then READ THE OP of that theme thread and flash the rom they say its for, then flash theme.
2. find a rom you like the best then find themes that are compatable.
either way your gonna need to get comfortable with flashing items. It may take you a few tries to get the set up that works best for you.
I had the same question... (yaay! noob searched before starting a thread!!) Thanks for the responses. And it DOES make sense to me, so original poster should have little/no difficulty doing either.
