Wanted - In-ear earphones - UK - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Christmas is on the horizon, and im interested in some premium earphones.
Can i have some good recomendations for the Galaxy S2?
All price ranges acceptable, they just have to be fantastic quality.
- preferrably available in UK
- MUST NOT need an adapter to work.
I just want to plug them in & get fantastic sound quality.

Yes, i was looking at dre beats series but was worried they were just overpriced hype with a name & endorsment.
Plus they say made for ipod all over them, was worried they will not work on our S2 without one of those adapters etc.

No to Beats by Dre.
If you are looking for some quality in ears, then you need to be looking at Westones, Senns, EarSonics, Etymotics, Ultimate Ears trifle fis. Those are just some brands you need to consider.
All vary on the type of music you listen to, the type of sound you prefer, i.e, cold, natural and such. Amount of bass you want. Etc.

I listen to alot of different things,
Trance, dance, rock & even sometimes pop.
There are sooo many different types & brands - its a hard choice.
Essential that they work on s2 without any adapter though.

Do you have a budget in mind?
Monster Turbine pro copper is supposed to be the the dogs b*****ks! but costs more than the whole dog
I am using denon 751 which i hate, cos it lacks noise cancelling and bass
My mate is a beats fan, but he had 3 sets of Dr Dre beats returned cos the cables are weak and snap easily
I have used some sennheisers before and was good.
My last one was Klipsch S4 and I loved them.. Bass and noise reduction was good in a reasonable price bracket. unfortunately I broke them (car door mistake) and Denon was in the sales, hence my mistake

Price isnt really a problem, but common sense is. Earphones shouldnt cost almost what i paid for my phone. LOL
A friend has just recommended me the cheap zagg smartbuds - but seriously, zagg audio? ... Sounds more like money wasted.
The ibeats are on £79.99 on amazon, whilst the tour version is £119.99 - other than the flat cable, is there much difference in sound?
(and again, ibeats even sounds like ipod - these gonna work on the Galaxy S2 without any adapter?)

apparently they are supposed to sound the same, I have tried the headphones , (not tried the ear phones tho) and they are LOOOOOOUD!
the flat cable is supposed to be anti tangle.
that was testing with it plugged into my S2 too

At the moment, im torn between the klipsch S4 & the dre ibeats.
Both are cheap, (which is a little worrying lol)
£39.99 vs £79.99
Ive noticed klipsch do a S4A model for android phones (more than double the price at £89.99), does that mean the S4 wont work on Android without an adapter?
Ive heard mixed reports, some say the klipsch S4's, although cheaper than dre's ibeats - offer better sound quality & comfort. Whereas the dre's are metal & have better style.
Damn this is confusing, ive been looking all day! lol

Personally is buy Bose IE2 headphones like did.
The answer call buttons works, skip tracks doesn't. But I use poweramp and use the multi pause function to do so.
The fit is second to none, and the sound is equal to that too.
Klispch (sp?) Are supposed to be good but the dre beats are just over priced crud in my honest opinion.

Yes they are now past their prime, hence lower price 2 years ago they were worth a lot more.
Other headphones have surpassed them now. Brainwavez m2 or m3, PFE 012s, etc etc better sounding.
It's a never ending cycle lol, the headphones market has tons of them now making it hard to choose without listening to them.
I suggest if you are going to use the phone as your main player than don't spend alot as the DAC sucks and you won't hear the best of the headphones.

Like you said, its hard to buy something like this without trying first & thats impossible :/
The last pair of premium earphones i bought were a pair of NuForce - cant remember the model, but i was mightly impressed, loudness, clarity & bass were supurb in its nice little copper design. (but i bought the Galaxy S1 i9000 and they didnt work properly - i cant find them now i want to try on my Galaxy S2 i9100 - im guessing these were one of those that needed an adapter)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

Ive ordered the Klipsch S4's
For just £21.99 i couldnt pass, not when many say they offer better sound quality than dre beats!
But its only early december, if they come & im not happy - i will purchase another more expensive pair.
... But £21.99 for premium earphones is a steal, i just had to!

Premium Headphones

What are some of the best premium headphones for the s2? I'm looking to spend between $100 - $200. I actually don't care if they are headphones or earbuds just as long as they fit in my pocket.

I am a headphone junky... (I couldn't possibly name all the ones I've ever had haha) but all I can say is beats are overpriced for what they are. If you want a truly good pair of headphones, get the ultrasone hfi 580's. The sound is absolutely amazing!! Has a lot of bass but is is very tight, and not muddy (like the beats are). Also there is no lack in the highs and midrange. Of all the headphones I have used, there is nothing that comes close in my opinion. They are about $140 so they also fall in your range.
I just got the Klipsch S4 Reference and they look and sound amazing!

150...FOR EAR BUDS??
I can't see that ever being worth it. I got some sennheiser cx200s (I think) recently on sale for 15 and they're awesome.
Klipsch, Sennheiser, Shure - all well respected high-end brands
Skullcandy is well below the price range you state but they offer good "bang for your buck", especially if you buy a set of Comply foam eartips for their earbuds.
Bose and Beats are massively overpriced crap.
Q&A or Accessories... Q&A or Accessories... where oh where do I throw this thread?
Moved to Accessories.
I am using Ultimate Ears 600 with my SGS 2, got for $78 from Amazon during Christmas sale. You can find it around $80 on amazon from time to time; however, you will probably want to buy 600vi, it has mic and controls and as much as I know everything but volume control works there. These are armature headphones and renewed superfi 5, so if you listen bass and not music, I would not recommend though. Klipsch S4 are also good from what I heard, but according to this and this theme, UI has better build quality quality, but S4i sounds better.... but I cannot personally comment how they differ. One thing, I am happy with UI 600.
Also just noticed that superfi 10 on sale again. This are one of the best IEM on the market. There is also vi version, with mic and so on, but I never saw it to go on sale, and you can buy replacement cable with mic for superfi 10 from logitech website anyway.
And yes, should agree about beats, as overpriced crap made and sold my same company who sells overpriced cables.
Don't get Beats.. They're overpriced useless things. Quality of sound and build is nothing compared to better companies such as Bose and Sennheiser. I'd suggest getting a pair of those. I have CX 400's and they're very good. Of course you can get higher-priced pairs. They really do make a difference in sound. For people who say otherwise, try a pair of 200 dollar headphones/earbuds and then try a pair of 10 dollar JVCs... It's night and day.

150 is nothing lol my throw around everyday ear buds are shure scl4's which were like $399 when I got them and my other pair is a pair of shure se 535's which are like $499 (I only use them on stage as in ear monitors and when I cant find my other ear buds and I'm in a rush) lately for my phone I've been using the Monster mobile jamz because it has the control talk mic and the sound quality is decent.
I would also like to add that it should have a mic as well.

To each his own i guess.. The earbuds sound awesome.. Deep bass and very very clear. For everyone that says they don't- well that's just stupid. They could be a little over priced but the sound quality is the best I've heard coming out of ANY earbuds. Even uses Monster cable.. (high-end stereo/speaker wire).. Depends who you are.. Someone like me is't gonna spend any less than $100 bucks anyway, regardless of what kind of headphones i get and when you get up in that price range (unless your spending $3/$400), your selection greatly gets narrowed down.. I landed on beats and they sound fweekin great..

Then you may not have heard Klipsch Image S4's. For $70-$80 they're pretty hard to beat in terms of earbuds. Tight bass, clear highs and mids, you'll be hearing sounds in your music you never
even knew was there
Regarding Monster cable use in Beats.......could be the reason why they are overpriced Monster cable being overpriced is another topic all together...lol
I have had a pair of Bose in ear headphones for a while and I love them. about 89$ so not to expensive. They don't have a mic but just for something that is nice in quality and isn't going to break the bank. Bose

Agreed 100 fold. Beats are for people who don't know anything about balanced sound and just want muddy thumping. They don't even have as much of a kick as they should for what they're going after.
I personally have Phonak Audeo PFEs. I bought them for use with an mp3 player and not a phone so I'm not sure how they'd work out there. I am one who with always tune my equalizer to get the sound I want, and the PFEs are great in that regard. They have a very balanced sound which lets me EQ to my hearts content without getting any sort of distortion. The low end is a bit lacking compared to other headphones I've had (like Hippo VBs and CX300s) but they have better mid and high range to compensate.

Best Headphones for EVO 3D

Well i was wondering what is the best headphones for a Evo 3D , the htc earphones broke with me after like 3months of use. And i was interested in buying the dr dre beats headphones, but read all the reviews and well everyone said their crappy. Im still interested in buying headphones so i can use them for multi purpose use , like for my evo and computer maybe something else. And well wanted to get peoples opinions or when i can find some great headphones with long durability .
I have the beats audio earbud and I think they are great for me. Just don't get the cheapest ones with the little cord.

beats are fine headphones, but be aware your paying for the name, similar quality headphones are available cheaper...
Also if you dont listen to hip hop, rap or RnB. Or dont like bass you would be an idiot to buy beats.
I love my seinheisser hd 203's
I'm a rock fan so good bass (not overwhelming like beats) , good midrange and great highs for those guitar solos, overall great headphones

If you are into in-hear headphones i suggest Sennheiser CX 300 II, sound quality and fidelity much better than Beats Tour (i have them both )
Using A Jays "one" they are made for android.. there's a cool app for buttons. They look awesome and most importantly they sound fantastic.

Sony XB40EX. Compared these with "beats", and the Sony's sound far better. The 13.5mm drivers make the beats sound pathetic.
I got the wooden in-ear headphones from skullcandy they r pretty sweet, in the $70.00 range, wood just sounds better...

Has anybody heard of the Zagg smartbuds? They are awesome, sound is great, extremely durable, and a one year warranty so if anything happens you get another pair immediately. For 50 bucks you can't beat that
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
I'd say either another for the Sennheiser CX 300 II's or a close second the Skullcandy Titan's. Skullcandy gets a bad wrap as they have been known to have crappier quality stuff compared to most but if you take care of them properly you can't deny the sound is great in these.
I find the Titan's work better with a ROM w/ Beat's Audio. The extra bass boost is definitely heard.
Both can be gotten for about 30-40$ average.
If you are looking for ear buds I would highly recommend the Klipsch Image S4. I have them and they sound amazing I found a cheap set on eBay for half of what the retail for!
For listening to music on the move, I like headphones like the basic ear headphones that rest in your ear but don't stick all the way into it, but it's hard to find good quality ones if I'm honest. So I was delighted to find out that I got headphones with my EVO 3D that are actually somewhat decent, and they're the ones I use.
I just
bought a pair of Soul by Ludacris SL99's yesterday...Don't let the name fool you, these are the best sounding earbuds I have ever heard. The mids and highs are all crisp and clear and the bass is powerful but not overwhelming..I listen to everything from country to rock to rap/RnB/hip hop..Everything sounds amazing.

Beats Audio

Is there any way to get beats audio to work on our phones.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
No, next time search
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
No, and there's no point to beatsoff audio. It's nothing but marketing hype with no real actual technical benefits. It's nothing but a stupid equalizer preset.
I now regard Beats as being even worse than Monster in terms of overhyping ripoff artists. Even Bose at least has SOME technical merit even though nearly all of their products are significantly overhyped and overpriced.
LOL this question always getting asked. I still love how just cause they got a artist to say that the headphones were good they are regarded for good sounding headphones. Beats headphones are poor quality overpriced headphones.
- From an owner of real headphones.
Lol.. they are def overpriced but do they sound like crap- no. Not at all. I haven't had a TON of headphones before but I've use Bose and skull candy and many cheap headphones, the Beats sound better than all of them. Of coarse that's my personal opinion.. but I consider myself someone that is a bit picky.. but non the less they sound good regardless of the what else is out there or the over marked price tag. And I thought monster cable was a quality stereo cable.. not cheap crap?!
Before everyone starts hating on my post I'm just making a point that the headphones are decent and they DO sound good- despite what all the haters say. After all, haters gonna hate that's the point
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
That's because those aren't good headphones (Bose...). Get a $40 pair of Sennheisers, problem solved.
Beats is just oversaturated bass. Headphones selling for $300 when it should be at most half of that.
Same as Monster. It's a marketing ploy.
Yup... Senns, Shures - go with a proper regarded brand, you'll get FAR more for your money.
Beats may sound better than the cheaper Skullcandies - but NOT enough to justify the delta in price.
My personal opinions:
Budget with good "bang for your buck" - Skullcandy Titans (or others with 11mm drivers) combined with Comply foam eartips
Beyond that, I'd say: Sennheiser, Shure, or for those with money to blow, Etymotics. Audio-Technica has a few decent items, I've been tempted by their active noise cancelling circumaurals for a while. Their microphones are the best budget ones I've used. (They're probably not the best out there - but the best in the sub-$100 camcorder stereo mic range until you go into standalone units like the Zoom H1/H2/H4n)
However, under no circumstances are Beats worth the exorbitant price.
Totally agree with that. They are way over priced.. but they do sound better than some other ear buds I've bought and paid $40/$50 for..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Senns seem the best for me but pricewise since I lose headphones ask the time skull candy are rather good for their price.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
Well, Bose is overpriced, but in terms of noise-cancellation, or at least as far as I've researched, they are on the most effective out there so they can price however they want. But yeah, Sennheiser and ATH dominates in terms of overall audio quality, build, comfort, etc. I guess excessive flight travellers might go with the Bose while others go with Sennheiser/ATH, and as for the Beats, you got to agree, some of them look really nice, so that can go to the richish flashy people, not necessarily looking to wear the ones with the best audio quality, but good nonetheless.

The point is that they are overpriced and there are options which are FAR cheaper and match or exceed them in performance, such as units from Sennheiser or Shure.

Very true....
Brother had 2 different pairs, the solo and solo hd. Both sounded decent, but for what they cost they should sound a lot better than "decent". They mostly increased the low end of the spectrum muddling out any treble.
My skullcandy skullcrushers are pretty nice...
Every single pair of beats headphones I've ever seen on display have been broken. They feel like they're made of terrible plastic, and they don't sound nearly as good as other cans in their price range. I'll also take IEMs over cans any day, but that's just me. Etymotics ftw

More bass up in this piece!!!

Love this phone, but I need more bass pumping from it!. God Smack, Se7endust, Rush, and yes fu**kers, ADELE!, sound like $h¿t without good bass. Deep punchy bass makes me happy. I've been using the paid version of Volume+ but that's as useful as a screen door on a submarine. If anhbidy knows of something better, please share. No pirated apps please. Only legit. If youre really serious about your bass, I recommend a portable amplifier. I picked up the Fiio E11 and it blows my mind every time.

I also agree with VinceG. If you really want some good sound, you should consider a portable Amp/DAC and some good headphones.
Are you sure it the bass that's making that music sound awful? But yea, power amp is really good. Also a good pair of over the ear headphones will help a lot.

If this APP would work..
I purchased these headphones when my old in ears died that I had used for over 2 years, and they came with a app that let you control the sound to your liking.
[link to headphones: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...adphones+and+Accessories-_-Klipsch-_-26779026 ]
[link to app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.outsidesource.klipschcontrol&hl=en ]
You might try the app with your current buds. It might be what your looking for. I would uninstall any apps that affect sound you have installed.
Is there really such a thing as deep bass from earbuds? Regular headphones with sizable drivers yes but earbuds?

Actually, yes.
I have a pair of Sennheiser HD600's which are over the ear 'studio' headphones, when I bought them, they were priced at $600 and were the second best set sold by Sennheiser (the best set went for $2500). Currently, the HD600 set is now the third best set, beat out by the HD610's.
All of that to say, I have a pair of Sennheiser earbuds that perform nearly as well as the HD600's (again, priced currently in the mid $550 range), but the earbuds are priced at I believe $450 retail (the ie80s).
If you have a tendency to loose earbuds however, the $450 set is a bad choice. Buy a cheap set and learn to keep control of them before you make that kind of investment.
You get what you pay for. Buy cheap, you get cheap. Sennheiser headphones (the higher end ones in particular) not only have the capability of putting out the bass, they are well balanced, not overly bass'y' just to be 'cool'. You get a very accurate sound reproduction out of them and I recommend them highly.
Earbuds do not put out the bass by them self, they use your ear canal as a bass reflex hole. You need to be careful when using earbuds for this very reason, they seal your ear canal and use the pressure created by the sealing to create some pretty impressive bass.

The IE-80s can have the amount of bass adjusted in each earpiece by using a small screwdriver and the headphone wire is replaceable. One last thing, you need to allow around 15-30 hours of usage time with these before you make a final decision to keep them. This means, use them for 15-30 hours because they begin to sound even better than when you first take them out of the box.
I recommend getting higher quality earbuds or headphones and use Poweramp.
I currently use Poweramp coupled with either the Astro A*stars (earbuds w/control), Beats Tour (earbuds w/controltalk) and Beats Solo (overear w/controltalk).
Best all around sound with the A*stars though, boomier eye cavity vibrating resonance with the Beats (both).
And yes if that's not enough and as someone else mentioned early... might wanna get an external amp DAC.

Did you miss the part where he mentioned Rush though? I give it a negative 5.

$40 iBeats by Dre (normally $200)

This was on eBay's special offer so I don't think they would be fakes but can someone confirm these?

Ebay is very very strict about selling counterfiets. I would say overall they're most likely real.
More than 10 available / 2,949 sold
Beats by Dr. Dre Monster iBeats Earbuds Headphones from HTC Rezound
These Dr. Dre iBeats Earbuds are priced to sell out quickly- so act now. A major telecommunication firm bundled these custom made ibeats with a major cell phone and we got a great deal on the excess.

Lol, HTC says they can't give you headphones anymore because they can't source them, and then Verizon sells them as excess to an eBay seller because they have too many. I guess the phone wasn't a resounding success.
Just a reZounding one )))
There just the beats from the rezound seems legit.
Are these even worth it? I've been skeptical about the whole Beats stuff, and if they're actually worth it or just a gimmick. I haven't gotten around to test them because... well I haven't found the opportunity to. I can PROBABLY test the overhead headphones, but I doubt I'll be able to find these for testing.
Can anyone with legitimate experience with headphones confirm if these In-ear ones are worth getting?
Coming from someone who has owned Solo HDs, Tours, Studios, and iBeats, I would say the in ear ones are not worth it, period, and that its better to invest in the over the ear, for two reasons.
One, I usually use in ear headphones for casual use, in the gym, anywhere where I just stuff them in my picket after using them. So I don't really take care of them at all, and the headphone plug is usually the thing that breaks. The plug on the Beats is nothing special, the actual speakers are. So with that in mind, I broke my Tours 3 months in twice, and now awaiting the warranty ones to come in so I can sell them new. I prefer $20 JVC Marshmellow headphones since again, I don't use in ears for anything special. And if they break, just go and buy another pair, nothing to freak out about. Great sound too, and very light.
Now for the on ear ones, Solo HDs and Studios, I've listened to plain Solos and for the extra $30, the quality is definitely noticeable. The Solos just are a bass house, while the Solo HDs are a lot more balanced and have better sound. The Studios are better, clearly, and offer real notice cancellation that actually works. The only downside, is the constant use of batteries. I hated that. I prefer my Solo HDs to the Studios mainly because of that. Now, if the cable on the Solos/Studios breaks, I can simply get another for $5-15, depending the the brand since its just a 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm, nothing proprietary or fancy.
In the end, using White Solo HDs and loving every second. Hope this helps.

iBeats sucks in my opinion. It's really bass heavy and both treble and bass are muddy. After a short period of time, they actually start to hurt the inside of your ear canals. They aren't worth $200 like eBay says, they're worth $99. But $40 is a good price for mediocre headphones. If you want to spend a little extra cash, I would recommend you get the klipsch s4i. I switched to them after using the iBeats for a year and I'm disappointed at what I've been missing this whole time. They're balanced, bass heavy when need be, and they don't hurt after prolonged periods of use. I love my klipsch s4i's. They're $99 as well.
I'm not trashing Beats btw, the big headphones from Dr. Dre are pretty good. Albeit a bit pricey.

If someone has a link for a good price on some s4i or similar iems I'd really appreciate that. Looking to upgrade from the "higher end" skullcandies. And in my experience those skullcandies blew the beats ear buds out of the water. Beats are truly a fashion accessory.

Can't comment on Klipsch (I despise the way they do speakers, so don't trust them with headphones), but here is what I think
