New Razr Maxx battery for standard Razr? - Motorola Droid RAZR

Since the recently announced Razr Maxx has the same hardware specs as the existing Razr, but with a larger battery & rear case, does this mean there could be potential to replace the battery/rear case on our existing Razr devices?
http://android.modaco.com/page/news/_/android/899mm-thin-and-a-3300mah-battery-meet-the-mot-r177

Mmm...good question. I'm not sure, but I am doubtful.

Face it, in terms of battery life, original Droid razr owners are screwed and used as testers to Moto oops moment . They simply use our money to great a slimmest phone title.

I'd love to upgrade mine. I'm getting around 10 hours of use before I'm looking for the charger. Hopefully the parts are interchangeable.

Droid Razr Maxx looks identical to the Droid Razr. I think it will be compatible with our Razr's. It should be.

Yea. Neither phone can replace battery. Iono. You are probably thinking the front and back shells will align and fit so that you may use the maxx battery on the regular razr. Too early to tell that. If battery is the the thing. Id rather spend 30 bucks on a battery pack that $300+ for the new razr.

Hear that! I got into the habit of charging my previous Android phone (Milestone XT701) overnight, while in my office and in my car. See no reason to change that with the RAZR! Also installed JuiceDefender Plus—which does help.
It's the price we pay!
Chuck in Taiwan

Just spent 20 minutes with the Maxx at CES today, and the phone is MUCH thicker than the RAZR.
Don't believe the hype. This is more a Droid X2 replacement than a RAZR. The faceplate is the same, but the back piece is completely different, and there's no way it would be a simple modification to get the battery to go into the OG RAZR.
I'll keep my OG RAZR just fine, based on the size of the Maxx. The battery life would be good, but I'm not going to be rushing out to get one.
On the other hand, I would give up the extra thickness for the keyboard on the Droid 4. That was definitely the nicer of the 2 devices.
I'm actually thinking I'll be moving over to that next month when it comes out. I miss my keyboard from my OG droid & D2G, and it's a bit shorter than the RAZR so it's more pocket friendly, even with the extra girth.

Yeah little bit thicker but cant be any worse than the Bionic in terms of Gerth... besides 3300MAH battery... i think they said 16 hours of web browsing, or stream 5 back to back full length movies... sounds hot to me.

I had my RAZR in one hand, and the MAXX in the other....it's strange, while they say it's only 2.8mm, that's more than you think, when it's the whole length of the phone.
Because the bezel outside the screen on the RAZR is bigger than the Bionic, the overall size of the phone really increases a lot, and you end up with a much less hand friendly and pocket friendly device.
Sorry, it's just hard to explain. I just didn't like the overall feel compared to the RAZR in terms of size. I would be willing to give up the size, for the RAZR's battery which I can get some good performance out of already.
Yeah, it would be nice to have that extra life, but you do pay for it in terms of pocket size & carrying it around. Not a trade off I personally am interested in making.

Personally, I am quite happy with the battery life I am getting with my Razr (I charge it on the nightstand while I am sleeping, and top it off in the office). It has much better battery life than any other Android phone that I have used in the past, and seems to be one of the best LTE durations out there. I prefer the form factor over the bigger battery, plus I think the MAXX battery specs may be marketing exagerations as all manufacturers tend to do.

Does anyone know the mAH capacity of the Verizon RAZR battery? Is it larger than the GSM version? I've read 1750 or 1780 mAH for one of them (which?) but my battery app is reporting either ~1950 or ~1530 mAH depending on how deeply I discharge.

It is something between minimum 1750mah, maximum 1780mah. That's what it means. XT910 and XT912 share the same battery. I don't mind having some extra thickness for the sake of 3300mah battery.

1780mah according to the spec sheets

The extra battery is the real deal, no question. The question is whether you can live the extra 1.8mm in thickness and weight. When compared to other phones it's still pretty thin though.

i like my RAZR, and find battery life to be so-so. If I had the choice to do it over again, I would get the MAXX. Don't hesitate.
I'd obviously choose the MAXX... They're exactly the same phone, except for the battery. I'm actually kinda pissed that they're promoting the MAXX as a new device, seeing as all it is is a response to those with battery life issues. I love my RAZR, but I kinda feel like all current owners should be entitled to the MAXX as a correction to a problem.

Why would you? Razr's thin and cool looking. Other than that, they are the same phone. What I want to know is what do you want? Have you played with a Rezound? Do you like it better? Then go swap them out. You only get 14 days, though, so don't waste time waiting on us to make your mind up.
yes i like the slimness of the razr but, i dont like the spots it has on the screen and i dont like blur to much either, i was use to sense and i like the rezound

Well if you don't like Blur and you like Sense then get the rezound.. Sounds like a no brainer to me
Both are nice phones. The Rezound feels like a tank!
If you don't mind the size increase, go for it!
Battery life might be worse as well.

Sounds like you already had in mind what you wanted, and just wanted us to reassure you
I had the rezound for 2 months, and the Maxx for 2 weeks.
The Rezound with the extended battery is ALOT heavier (to me) then the Razr Maxx, but im sure you know this.
The Rezound's screen is quite a bit sharper and nicer, but I'm sure you know this too
I find the Maxx to have a bit less lag. The Maxx's camera is a tad bit worse in lower light situations.
I wear semi loose clothes ie relaxed jeans, baggy khaki's etc. The fiancee is trying to get me into more form fitting stuff. What am I getting at ? Well in normal jeans (not baggy) the rezound left a hump in my pants, and when I held it in my hands I felt as if it was a brick after a while. To some they love how it feels, but to me, it got old quick.
The Razr Maxx is so much more up my alley. I've got used to the display and camera just fine. I don't miss the rezound at all. The Maxx has given me better call quality, and better reception / 4g. Mind you, this is just from my experience, and you experience may vary. I went through 3 Rezounds due to hardware issues, call problems, etc.
The Rezound got hotter quicker, and longer than the Maxx. I got over 50+ hours on the max, and half that on the rezound with roughly the same use (2750 mah vs 3300 mah on the max i believe).
Now if you have the normal Razr, and your plans is the Rezound with the standard battery, then you will gain a better camera, better screen, and i'd say a bit worse battery life.
Just my personal opinion. I was an HTC person for a few years, but after my Rezound problems, i'm a Motorola guy, for now.

You can find info on this everywhere. I owned the Beats Phone for 2 months. My extra input is that the Beats integration did not make much of a difference to me, I mainly use internet radio. I can talk into my phone with my Bose headphone s for a conversation and you could not with the rezound.have to us an inline mic. bluetooth navigation with the droid roadster always came on in the middle of the spoken sentance with thte rezound. the rezound never understood what I was saying while texting with speech, the motorola does. nobody have ever told me they cant understand me on the RAZR. always on the rezound. Earpiece much clearer on the Razr. the Razr actually charges in the car dock; rezound=not. bigger battery in the Maxx. I miss the rezound camera and emergency battery swap if needed. but I have not charged my battery on the RAZR for 24 hours and am at 70%. It may be the recent updates, but my experience with the RAZR MAXX has been much better thatn the two RAZRs i owned before the Rezound.

I keep seeing people make comments about spots on the razr's screen, and also crosshatching. I've been looking close and studying the screen on mine and it is just plain beautiful. I see no spots or pixelation, so I don't know, maybe they are not all the same or maybe I'm just not seeing it.
Coming from the Rezound to the Razr Maxx it's a whole lot better, the sound on Maxx is way better then the Beat's on the Rezound. I'm not much of a camera guy so i really don't mind it on the Maxx but my favorite of it all is the battery life and how thin my phone is without an extended battery in it.

There are "spots" on mine, but it's not that bad and the update has mostly fixed it.
I would go for the maxx.

HTC Rezound, or Motorola Droid Razr MAXX?

I'm ready to upgrade to a new phone, considering my Xperia Play is becoming more useless as the days go by. I just have a few questions about both phones. Watching videos is helping but I just can't decide.
-Although the Razr has a Super AMOLED display, would you say the Rezound's display is better because of the higher resolution (despite it being LCD)?
-Which Phone has the better reception. I live on the beach and have a hard time getting reception. I normally get 1-2 bars and no 3G. Also, which one has the better talk quality?
-Which is better, Motoblur or HTC Sense? Before my Xperia Play I had the Droid Eris (which sucked) but I did like Sense. To be honest, my favorite is just Stock Android.
-Even though the Rezound has a faster processor, which one runs the best? While this isn't necessary, it would be nice to know.
-My last question is the battery life. Now, it's clearly obvious that the MAXX wins in battery life. But I've heard that you can get an extended battery when you order the Rezound. Does the extended battery do the Rezound any justice, or is it not much of a change?
The reason why I ask these questions is because I have heard TOO MANY good things about both phones, and it's giving me a very difficult time. I know I posted this in the Rezound forums, but I hope I can get plenty of opinions and answers.
Thank You.
Can't speak to how the maxx performs. However, I absolutely love my Rezound. I have the extended battery and can get 10 hours of heavy use with a overclocking kernel and sense 4.0. No reboots or crashing. If I lightly use I can get 2 days on a single charge. I'm using the HTC extended battery. I tested the maxx screen side by side with the Rezound in the store and the Rezound wins hands down. Higher ppi and more realistic colors.
Hope this helps.

I agree 100%.
My son has a Maxx as all he cares about is battery life, but the screen totally sucks on it. I compared that & my Rezound side by side with a blueray rip & the Rezound wins hands down.
I use the extended battery also & it easily gets me thru a day of audio streaming etc.
I forgot to ask, which camera is better? And thanks for the replys so far everybody! While I don't need a long-lasting battery like in the MAXX, it would be nice because the Xperia Play's battery honestly sucks.
Rezound camera is da-bomb.
Especially if you flash one of those no-compression camera mods.
Focuses rediculously close and takes extremely large resolution pics.
I would say the Rezound is superior in every single way, except for the battery. Unfortunately, that except is a pretty big except.

Haha, I don't think I can afford that :/ But it's a nice thought.
Blur sucks, but easier to get rid of and less intrusive. That said the screen on the razt is garbage. I have not seen a better screen than rezound. Performance is awesome. Biggest regret is I doubt we'll ever get real aosp.
More serious answer:
I much prefer the look and feel of the Rezound over the RAZR, and I HATE pentile matrix displays. Boo on the RAZR, Rezound all the way!
If you are fine with getting the extended battery, get the rezound. I am an above average user and I have 30% battery after 14 hours off the charger. That means I safely make it through a full day.
I couldnt see needing more than that, so why not get the better device? That was my.thought.
Do your research on the razr display. Pentile is a step backwards in technology.

1st thing the speaker was to quite and crackled when turned up and when put on vibrate you couldnt even feel it thats two downers
next the screen was absolutely horrid it was fuzzy and to dark and i think my thunderbolt had a better picture
next motoblur was also junk you have to go 5 places to get somewhere when on sense you click and its there
So i decided to root and see if you could do any better which wasnt no big deal but somehow i locked it up and had to do a battery pull and omg that took me like two hours cause your not suppose to pull batteries on that model plus the bootloader is locked and you cant just upgrade and downgrade so easily like the rezound

Any difference in benchmarks is probably attributable to the difference in screen res.
I had the RAZR and rezound. I honestly like how thin the razr is, and it's a quick phone. Camera is decent, as is the battery. If you like stock Android, the ics leaks on the RAZR are pretty close to aosp. Both are great phones, rezound has a battery camera, that's the only thing better then the RAZR. But it's your preference.
ICS Rezound.
I ended up ordering the Rezound with the extended battery. It sounds like the quality of the Rezound is better than the Razr. To be honest, I like having a bulky phone. The thin ones (like the razr) feel very strange in my hand. Plus, the rezound comes with some Beats. I haven't had quality earbuds in a while .
Thanks for helping me decide guys! Although I will miss gaming on my Play, I have the 3DS and Vita anyway .
I don't think the Razr's screen is as bad as everyone says it is personally.

[Q] Razr Maxx or wait?

Currently have a Droid Charge.. hate the phone. Going to sell it and thinking about picking up a Razr Maxx used for around 430ish, sell the Charge for around 130ish net $300 out of pocket.
I am on Unlimited Data and never plan to get rid of it. Hows the Maxx? Lag at all?
Worst part about it? Camera any good?
well, in terms of construction quality, the Maxx is excellent. That kevlar cover is real eye candy.
The camera is great. We compared pictures on the phone and on computer, the Maxx vs. an old N8, and unless yo are very technical about photography, there's not a clear advantage on the 12MP of the Nokia.
Ice Cream Sandwich, need I say anything about that?
Battery life is great, I am sure there are many screenshots around for you to see.
Thanks.. just bought a supposedly mint condition on ebay with a supposedly clean esn. I know the Charge screen is a bit better.. but I just want the lag to stop.. drives me crazy.
Almost went back to an iPhone.. but no 4G on them yet, and anymore the 3.5" screen seems a bit small.
4.3" is the sweet spot.
Hope I am happy!!
Ha and that deal fell through.. time to continue on....
I bought mine two weeks ago off of Ebay for $411 shipped. It was literally mint. Took it down to Verizon store to swap out existing SIM for the micro SIM the RAZR needs, they popped it in, turned it on and everything has been flawless since. Coming from an LG Revolution, it's like going from a tricycle to a Porsche.
I had a charge and I love this phone. I feel no need to modify this phone, it is that good. Reception, GPS, speed, ics, battery life, it all kicks ass.
I wanted to wait for the HD version but am completely satisfied with this. Charge felt better ergonomically and had better sound quality through headphones.
This phone is so good you have to unlearn the worry of your old phone's shortcomings.
SHVR MAXX
Well on another deal, let's see if this one is legit. Should have this week, a bit more than I wanted to spend, but came with an OtterBox Commuter and 32Gb SD.. even though I already have like 3 of those..
I had a Galaxy Nexus and an Evo LTE before getting my Maxx, and I must say, this is really nice hardware. Once I rooted, and was able to get rid of all the Motorola crap (UI, kinda like Sense), it was golden! Honestly, I would say that you should try and pick one up.
Hope this deal works out for you
Thanks, 435 with the Otter Box and another 32Gb mem card, Used but supposedly pristine. As soon as I get it headed to Verizon store to get it activated. I have heard that even after it's on your account, someone can get the ESN deactivated by claiming it was lost/stolen? Anyone know about that?
I would think they would have to have access to your account to do that? Otherwise we could all sell a phone, then have then vzw deactivate it lol... I would talk to your local vzw about that one

Yeah, got it, and it is night and day different from the Charge. Although the screen isn't a + it is a bit higher res, so I don't notice the screen being much worse. The fact the launcher on my Charge would have to redraw after opening like two apps drove me mad. The Charge almost drove me away from Android and back to an iPhone, but I think I will stick with it for a bit.
Now to decide to keep my Charge as a toy for the kid, or to try and sell it with a few scuffs on the chrome.

The display will be better but the battery will not. The MAXX runs about 3200 mAh and the OG RAZR runs about 1700mAh (my numbers may be off but they're close). The Vanquish/Hd will have about 2600 mAh, better than the OG but the MAXX will still have the best battery.
I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I'm jumping from an htc incredible og to a new phone. My apologies. My biggest concern right now is putting together a pros and cons list of og razr (meaning not maxx) and galaxy nexus.
Oh and wondering if i should wait for the maxx hd to come to see the prices of the og maxx.

I moved from an OG Dinc as well. I actually had to fire it up and activate it for a day over the weekend...kinda missed it. If you can hold off, it may be worth it, but I don't think ti would be worth it if the current razr's were .01. Nicer screen? Yay, but meh. Higher res camera? Whatever. Cell camera sensors are so small that upping the mp count is nothing more than a marketing trick that takes up more space in your memory.
