...that's just the british keyboard layout lol.

Go into settings, select language and input, then double check everything is set correctly to your local language.
This issue occurs if you have the incorrect language setup, for instance in the UK if you set it to 'English (United States)" then you get the @ when you press shift 2 instead of getting a ".

Also make sure you actually select the ASUS keyboard as the current one.
If you select a different keyboard (like Thumbkeyboard or Swype) the virtual keylayout will reset to en_US.
See my thread here for a permanent fix for this issue.

i would really like to have the 1 button keyboard as my only soft keyboard for ALL applications. does anyone know a way to imply this?
thanks a lot.
Or modified keyboard
Or possibly modify the touch keyboard so that the full stop & comma are on the 1st page of symbols & the word select area is more finger friendly?
Try the keyboard TouchPal ...is free to use and is great for oane hand use of the phone. I write SMS with it even when driving...
here it is : http://www.cootek.com/
don't know if this helps and if it sets the keyboard to default, but if you press on the little "upper arrow" on the right side to the "20", you can change the kind of keyboard used by the application
I like to have this keyboard too...

Go to settings>locale and text>uncheck the "default input" checkbox (not sure about the exact label, but it's second to the top, my phone's language is lolspeak )
Be warned though, you will not be able to access "symbols" menu. When you press
the button under "enter", it'll just act the same as the alt button, the blue one. So, you can't enter an underscore and other symbols like $.

Yes, when in the described mode, press and keep pressing the letter that contains the special symbol.
For instance, if you need the symbol 'ö', press and keep pressing 'o', the rest will point itself out.

Then this seems like a bug. Maybe report this? Where?

Looking for the back slash? \

Hey, maybe this is common knowledge, but a quick search didn't get any hits. If you're looking for the back slash (\) on the keyboard, press the 123# key and then the Shift key. It will bring up a second keyboard with more symbols and stuff. Hope this helps. I needed a back slash to authenticate to a Windows network using my domain\username combination.

123# key, then the Shift Up.
Don't worry, this was a tricky one -- I had to look at my own device to figure that one out.
I thought it was just me! I added a different keyboard to my tab so that I could setup my exchange account! LOL

smart keyboard installation problem
How did you get Smart Keyboard to load? I have installed it; it comes up on settings/language & keyboard, but I can't get the box to check ( I get the warning message).
Does the PRO version (which I have) need to be validated on the gpad?
I am running a stock ROM v.3588

Book cover keyboard key mapping

I have the new keyboard book cover with my Tab s4. The input language is set to UK but keys like the pound sign and @ sign are not mapped to the appropriate keys. Is there a driver issue or am I missing something?
Thanks
I don't see that issue here, but I'm English US on my end. I did switch to UK English, and I see what you're saying that's odd. I kind of understand the pound (# vs £), but the @ issue seems super strange to me. Have you reached out to Samsung? There might need to be some kind of software update from their end.
For that matter, I hope they drop the "Shift+Space" for language selection. There's already a language key, so aside from it being pointless, it messes me up a lot when I don't let go of Shift fast enough after typing "I". I thought I was going crazy for a bit until I figured that out. lol
I assume the book cover is the original one from Samsung so in order to set up the proper layout check the settings "General management / Language and input/ language/ English (united kingdom)" that the language is English (United Kindgom). Also, go to the physical keyboard "General management / Language and input/ language/Physical Keyboard/ Samsung Keyboard (Uk)". That's the way I have it and works flawlessly. Let me know if that works.
I thought this thread was about actual key remapping. I'd love to remap that language key to something more useful, like getting to the home screen. I'd also like to remap the language shortcut, ctrl+space. And lastly, I keep hitting ] instead of backspace, and it's driving me nuts. Any idea if these keys are remappable?
This app might help, there's a free demo version.

Thanks for the reply!
I have been using this app the whole day and must say this app should be one of the must-have APKs to our watch, alongside with Amazmod and Greatfit.
Nice job!
As an improvement, It is possible to make the first letter in the sentence an auto caps? Also, the same applies to the first letter after a dot (.).
Unfortunate, I searched around and could not find a image of T9 Portuguese keyboard to show you ):
But I will try to explain the differences the best way I can with my limited english. Please let me know if I could not express myself clear enough. I will try best next time.
Here it goes:
The Brazilian Portuguese Keyboard uses almost the exactly same letters and symbols than in english keyboard. And in the same position too.
In addition, we have the following letters: Á, Ã, É, Ê, Í, Ó, Õ Ú, Ç
The biggest difference, as you can see, is that we use accents in the vowels in certain words. And we have the addition of Ç
For that fact, some T9 keyboard make the the "number 2" button as follows: "ABC", and when you long press the button, it show the alternate letter: Á, Ã, Ç.
The same goes for the button 3 (DEF), when you long press it, it show the alternate letter: É, Ê
When you long press Button 4 (GHI), it shows Í
When you long press Button 6 (MNO) it shows Ó Õ
When you long press Button 8 (TUV), it show Ú
That's abou it.
And, finally, some T9 Keyboards put all those alternate letter in the symbol category. In that case, they could be accessibly by swapping UP, just like you did with the symbol options.
So both option explained above would work great for our language.
Please let me know if I can help with more information.
Obrigado.
