[Q] [CM7] What are the differences between CPU Governors? - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

I wonder what are the differences between the cpu governor settings in Cyanogenmod 7 .
I'm currently using ondemand option, i'm good with it but i want to know what smartass or interactive etc. do. And why to choose the others except ondemand or poversaver. And which works better for ace.
And of course, which option do you use ?

[Q] overclocking faq - where?

Hi guys,
I've been looking fruitlessly for an FAQ where the following stuff is described:
- discussion of the different governors (smartass/smoothass/performance/...)
- discussion of the methods for overclocking (is NoFrills the only/preferred way to set overclocking, or are there better tools?)
thanks for pointing me in the right direction...

Hi Drythe,
I don't know if there's a FAQ around here for that. As far as OC apps are concerned I've only used SetCPU which is free for download at its XDA thread. I guess NoFrills does the same as SetCPU but I've never tried it out as I never needed to. If you're using CM7 and you have CM's submenu under settings you can even set there the min/max CPU frequencies, the governor and the set-on-boot option. That's the standard options. SetCPU also gives you the possibility of defining min/max/governor profiles for a number of different scenarios (battery percentage or temperature;screen on/off, etc.) As for a way of setting the OC, any one of them is enough and none will give you better OC per se, of course
Choose the one you like the most and use it, it won't make a difference on the OC.
About the governors, some of them are self-explanatory (conservative, powersave, performance,...), some of them may not be. You'd be better off googling for the specific governor you want to know about and reading some results about it.
If you have the time and compile that information into a new thread, the better.
Happy OCing!
Cheers!
And when you do, please post in relevant section (not dev )

Yes yes yes...
By the way, Smoothass appears to be a very elusive target. I'm using it but couldn't find any info
Smoothass is an improved smartass. The way it scales between the frequencies was changed but mantains the smartass original concept. From what I reckon, smoothass is the advisable one to use.
Cheers.
is smoothass an improved smartass like said above?

[Q] How to change CPU frequency on GPU lock?

I'm using siyah kernel and would like to know how to change the CPU frequency should be locked to when highest GPU step is used.
to all using siyah kernel anyone know how/where to tweak this? TIA

I believe you use extweaks from the market....
I'm using extweak right now, mind telling me what part of it to tweak/set/adjust?
also in the CPU > SCHED_MC options are (0,1,2) which is the best? did really understand the description
edit: If you're on siyah kernel what sched_mc did you set?

Open extweaks and then go to the GPU section and simply change the value
Info: stock siyah is 500 and stock samsung is 1200

So, what you really want is changing your GPU clock?
Answer: not working yet on Siyah because of a small code from samsung but should work on next siyah 1.3

Oh i see, cause i read some post before you can use some code to tweak gpu lock but never mind cause its not working.
One last thing in the CPU > SCHED_MC which option did you set? 0,1, or 2? Didn't really much understand the description below, which saves more battery?
Can not answer this one: never touch this setting...
Ok thanks.

Undervolt ? Why ? Do you want flickering backlight and reduced performance... However you can underclock it and decrease battery consumption...
Sent from my WT19i using xda app-developers app

you can undervolt easily with system tuner
or you can use my init.d script from my ROM (attached)
max CPU speed is set to 768MHz, default governor is interactivex, but you can change that to whatever speed and governor you like.
edit it with notepad++
can you tell me if its applicable in a stock kernel ICS

Stock cant be undervolted
what are the best values of voltage adjustments due to their frequency.
I already did some undervolts but I have a good drop in performance.
Kernel MESA 2.0 and Puress 3.1 ROM

Hm. I didn't experience a performance drop when UV-ing...
Kernels already have the most stable voltage tables. So if you want stability, don't change anything.
Try system tuner app, and play with the voltage settings. If you lower them too low, the phone will freeze immediately and you'll know what's the limit.

Good app for rooted users that want to mess with Kernel settings?

What is a good app to fine tune kernel settings such as min/max frequency, governors, etc.? Thanks!

Synapse, Trickster MOD, Kernel Tweaker, SetCPU, ROM Toolbox Pro (maybe Lite), CPU tuner. There's a bunch. Some are free, some are freemium, some are paid.

[Discussion] Best Settings in Spicy kernel by DyWN for best performance in Games?

I don't know much about CPU Governors, IO Schedulers, TCP etc.
Can any pro please explain these things?
Is there any better governor than Performance?
And what are other things? How do they affect the performance? I am a noob so please explain it as simple as you can
And if possible please give best settings for Games like injustice 2.
Thank you.
I am sure many others will also have these questions.
Thanks in Advance
Just change the cpu governor to interactive and change the cpu frequencies as u like this should be enough for you as u have just begun.. Later u your self will learn how to do it.. ? leave the rest settings as it is, for now at least.
