[ROM] [Miui] Gingerbread 2.4.6 (post 1)***ALPHA V4 MIUI 2.3.9 (post 2) - Nook Color Android Development

Well gang, here it is....Miui 2.4.6 for the Nook Color. First of all this update would not be possible without andmer's original port, and the help of Miui US (specifically lithium76 also known as 0xD34D, scott951, and gatormark08 also known as Mark Hoj). This update is based on the latest Cyanogen 2.3.7 Gingerbread base. Market has been fixed and will auto-update to version 3.4.4. Also included in this update is a modified launcher with customizable grid size (courtesy of lithium76. The modified launcher can be found as a standalone apk here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1460776. Please be sure to hit lithium76's thanks button.
Current Bugs:
USB mounting appears to not be working in this weeks build.
You can mount usb storage from recovery still
1X2 & 4X2 digital clock widgets causing force close of modified launcher

Adjust Widget Alignment Here:
1. Go to settings>personal>launcher and set the row spacing to 5.
2. Download the local.prop.zip (attached below)
3. Extract the local.prop file from the zip, then using any file explorer with root access (Root Explorer, E-Strongs, etc.) copy and paste the local.prop file into /data.
4. Reboot
What this does: Changes the lcd density locally (on device only). It will not change the lcd density as read by the market. By default I have the density set to 200, because that's how I like it. You may change that number to whatever you like (default for Nook Color is 160, Miui rom defaults at 240) using the text editor feature in your root file explorer. A reboot will be required for any changes you make to that number to take effect.
ENJOY

Miui 2.3.9 v4 Ice Cream Sandwich Alpha!!!!
Well, after 53 test builds and a whole lot of help from the community I am happy to offer up a V4 Miui build for alpha testing.
This would not be available now if not for the help of:
gatormark08 (MarkHoj)
scott951
lithium76 (|0xD34D|)
superkid
Samiam303
ajrty33
Everyone involved in the CM9 development
The entire Miui.us team
Thank you to all who've contributed, for many late nights in IRC chatrooms, reading dozens of logcats, pushing, pulling, and decompiling files and sharing your information with me.
This is a very usable ALPHA rom.
Known Issues:
USB mounting
Netflix
Contacts force close (Go Contacts from the market works)
Themes / Lockscreens are hit or miss

I use this rom for a week and my Bluetooth is working. I admit that connection is a bit bugy. Every time i have to unpaire the device before connect again after a while of bluetooth disuse. Is that what you ment? Or i am some kind god blessed?

The connection always has been and probably always will be buggy, because we don't have a proper bluetooth antenna. The device was never intended to be used as a tablet after all. I've actually not tested it myself. I was just relaying what has been reported to me (that it didn't work), and is entirely missing from the settings menu (which I did notice). Nice to hear that it actually does work pair & connect though. I will look into getting the bluetooth settings incorporated back into the settings menu.

I would love to run this but apparently my nook color won't boot into anything later than the last miui update before this one. Cm9 no go. Nothing. Boo... oh well thanks for putting in work. I'll see if I can't get it to boot sometime.

Glad to see this really great rom get its own thread instead of being hidden in the other thread. Any word on official miui.us hosting?

this is awesome, can you possibly put some work in on phiremod miui as well? i would be eternally grateful

Indeed.....Download links at roms.miui.us are current. No more $hitty file hosting

HockeyFamily737 - is there any possibility to make option to use status bar at the bottom?
I think there would be a wery big interest in this option for tablets such as Nook Color.
The only thing is killing me in MIUI is the virtual buttons of button savior i use.
If there would be an option to put status bar at the bottom the using of virtual buttons would be a lot better.
I think at lest it would be great!

Believe me when I tell you. I would love to have the status bar at the bottom and built in virtual buttons. Is it possible....yes, anything is possible. Will the Gingerbread rom see it....probably not, but we are hoping to eventually be able to incorporate it into v4.

It's not a perfect solution but I find zmooth to be very useful when running miui. I use the free version and the ability to swype the panel for left, home, and menu means I have to use button savior very little.

Thanks thanks thanks!
Does anyone else have problems with Google Maps? Nook freezes continuously when i use the maps...

REQUIREMENTS
CM6.1 for the HTC Legend
CM6.1-Gingertheme.v6.1.LEGEND.zip courtesy of Sympnotic - Download provided below.
LauncherPro (Recommended) OR Gingerbread Launcher
*** NOTE: Gingerbread Launcher 3D Free does not work on the Legend.
Icons (if using LauncherPro) courtesy of Benny879 @ the LauncherPro Forum - Download provided below.
Gingerbread Keyboard by Fabolous @ Droid Forums
LCDDensity
Livewallpaper from Gingerbread
*** NO METAMORPH REQUIRED!
STEPS
*** DO A BACKUP FIRST!!!
Flash CM6.1-Gingertheme.v6.1.LEGEND.zip
Select STOCK_Black theme in CM settings. (User interface --> Tweak Extras)
Flash the keyboard and select Android Keyboard in text input.
Open up LCDDensity and set to 240 then restart.
Open up LCDDensity again, set to 160 (default), and restart again (this is to fix the unusually small size of the new keyboard).
Use the icons to give the LauncherPro dock the Gingerbread look. DO NOT FLASH THE ICON ZIP FILE just extract it and customize through the LauncherPro menu. Alternatively, you can use the Gingerbread Launcher in the Market, but it does not have support for a 3D app drawer.
Set wallpaper to "Nexus" live wallpaper.
BUGS
Rebooting the phone will cause the keyboard to return to its small state again. You'll have to repeat steps 4 & 5 to correct it.
After flashing the theme from Sympnotic, the CM theme options may appear as a blank menu with one checked radio next to it. Check it again, leave the menu, go back, and STOCK_Black should be there.
After flashing CM6.1-Gingertheme.v6.1.LEGEND.zip I got stuck at the Cyanogenmod boot screen. I had to power it down then power it back up for it to properly boot. Everything was fine after.
"Add Call" button appears lower than the "End" and "Dialpad" buttons (See Post #5). Flash CM6.1-Gingertheme.v6.1.LEGEND.zip to fix. Thanks to Sympnotic.
MISSING FEATURES
New live wallpaper as seen on the Nexus S. Fake Nexus S live wallpaper added!
Official Nexus S live wallpaper.
Orange colour burst when reaching the end of a menu.
Sleep animation.

I'm just trying to learn this stuff too. Right now I'm relying on Sympnotic for the theme and I'm not sure if there are any plans for a transparent version. Maybe in the future if I can figure it out myself.
@jaStrom: Just want to ask you something. Did you sign framework-res.apk after you apply the theme? And did you zipaligne the modified apks?

No and no. I didn't create the required files mentioned in the first post. All I did was flash/install the required items, made sure everything worked, then posted exactly how I did it. I'm still in the process of learning about how to properly use the SDK, so I've been relying on more advanced users' work.
That doesn't mean that it isn't zipaligned or signed, I just don't know since I didn't make it. Why? Are you experiencing slower performance?

Hi, I did the theme, and no, i'm not signing or zipaligning it, I'm too lazy to do that as I'm always replacing things at the last moment before flashing and testing it, but I'm moving files from .zip to .zip to prevent issues concerning signing.
Properly recompiled (w/o errors) framework-res.apk using apktool (supposedly fake signed) gives me bootloops.
I'll grab the fake-sign java thing just in case and will find some infos about it.
Ps: jaStrom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869771

This is a work in progress. The goal of this project is to move it into a Theme.apk for the new "Theme Chooser"
Credits:
tnpapadakos (buy him a cappucino)
This is his hard work, and it's very good looking, I'm just trying to help minimize the zip size and get it moved to an apk for Tmobiles Theme Chooser
this is a good start in the right direction, dueces
Awesome, thanks!
*sigh* - DON'T
Seriously, guys... The themeing engine was added to CM7 precisely to avoid this kind of messing up with the ROM, so *don't* do this. Themes can now be built and distributed as APKs, you can even market the damned things...
This comes from an installable APK, for example:
xttp://dl.dropbox.com/u/10355648/mau5-land.png
Check the vendor/tmobile/themes/Cyanbread and Androidian stuff for examples.
Awesome I love it thanks
So this is a .apk or theme? Could you explain a bit more why you say this is a bad idea?

Had some issues, working now on #15. I edited the link in post #1 for the working full colorized build #14
I dig this, but am not keen on flashing something on top of nightlies that could jack with the ROM that's already a WIP.
Once you convert to a theme I'll definitely give it a whirl (not much liking the current 3 themes, but love the functionality & options it will bring).

It's a theme, installed as an APK. Messing up with ROMs to change layout has always been a problem, it's _very_ easy to mess up something, especially when those changes are done by simply repacking the resources (unzip, replace, re-zip). It's a fairly frequent source of support problems for developers, and it's just an ugly way of themeing a phone.
CM7 includes a themeing engine developed by T-Mobile, and the main reason for it is to prevent these problems (and it is _very_ powerful, allows you to change almost anything from layout to animations, not just graphics). If you're running a recent build of CM7 (or any of the many CM kangs) , open the "Theme Chooser" application and choose one of the 2 samples: they are a very small example of what can be done. Note that even the window transitions are changed. Then search the market for "greybeard", and have fun installing your first market theme

well, no, its not a theme yet
its actually a kanged version of cm7
THE ONLY THINGS THAT ARE CHANGED ARE:
images in framework, SystemUI, Settings, Bluetooth, Browser, Calculator, Calendar, Contacts, Deskclock, Email, FM, MMS, Music and Phone
no layouts or xml files are changed, only images
the images changed have the exact same names, they have only been colorized so that the menu icons and notification bar icons that were grey/black and white before are now colored...some others that were colored before (like battery for instance) were changed to blue or some other design that i preferred (i personally cant stand the signal bars/wifi indicators in gingerbread)
this was originally just something i was doing for myself for a few months starting in july, 2010, but after i finally shared it in october over at cmforum, it took off as people liked it
there is nothing else changed in the ROM itself, so flashing this overtop of your current version of cm7.*** doesnt "break" anything else
so really its as simple as having both versions available on sdcard and flashing one or the other
honestly, its much to do about nothing, its just a different look
if someone can tell me how to "theme" the framework, and all those apk's listed above without doing it this way, i'd be glad to do it, it would save me alot of work, but i like doing it anyway

While I could remove the bloatware software, any of its removal will depend on lidroid since we'll want to keep the image as close to the original as possible.
However, I will add in the home button haptic fix for our devices on his next update.

go into network settings and you will see option for gsm= 2g and wcdma= 3g
Does this support .mtz files for themes like miui.....or how does the theme manager work, anyone care to comment?

It does not support .MTZ files, at the moment. There is a possibility that lidroid will incorporate it for theme support, but only time will tell.
The theme manager works a lot like the MIUI theme manager. You choose the theme you like. Download it and once its done downloading you install it. You'll need to reboot in order to apply.
Odd... this seems stock, but I cant figure out what its doing with logs and contacts. Worst part is unless I'm doing something wrong... battery life is TERRIBLE. Used 80% battery in 12 hours (while sleeping) not even using the phone. In CWM I wiped and wiped data in storage and mounts as recommended. This is far worse that stock (the battery life), unnamed even with hub stuff installed resulted amazing battery life!

Battery life has been pretty awesome for me and some others from I see. Drained 80% battery in 12 hours while not in use? You might want to look for wakelock issues using BetterBatteryStats or something equivalent.

Thanks for the feed back! I love this rom as I wanted some of the factory apps that other roms consider bloat, even with unnamed I installed the hub stuff...
I will try that. I installed the rom at about 10pm added my hub accounts and thats it... went to bed around 11, at last glance I was @ 79% battery. Woke at 11am (long weekend) and the phone was completely dead. I will test further and report back.
Thank you for a great port!!!
Looks really nice. Might try this out as so far MIUI doesn't seem like my cup of tea and I'm in the mood to try something different!

[MOD] GeckoMod v1.0

here's my first attempt at a modification package. it's all pretty much been done before elsewhere, but it's not been bundled together by anyone else for the arc, so i figured i might as well put it up here in case anyone else is interested.
it contains the following modifications:
* added new option to allow 'never' on screen timeout values
* http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19878267
pvyParts' battery bar modification and control application, along with a tweak suggested in the thread to hide the battery icon from the status bar.

hadramos' control panel and brightness slider on status bar pull down

if anyone feels that i've not acknowledged their contributions in any way, it's entirely through my own ignorance, so just let me know and i'll be more than happy to credit you for your work on here.
and no, don't bother donating to me for this - give it to those above who've made it possible in the first place
the install file is available here:
http://www.box.com/s/d8yeiv5u1gcsu470noai
all files are zipaligned, too, for those who care about that sort of thing
there is an undo file available here:
http://www.box.com/s/xvgpvjtcpp19hi0n1d8d
the uninstall will revert to the stock framework/res/systemui/settings/android.policy files, so backup these files for your own sake before installing this mod. my working installation is arconium 7.1, so that's where my starting point was for these files. i've had some issues with the uninstaller from time to time, though, so let me know if it's not working for you and i'll see what i can do.
it's my first ever mod, so please let me know what you think, and if you have any more suggestions that you'd like to see included post 'em and i'll see what i can do.
equally, if anyone wants to see my working files, i tried to split out the mods into individual changes from the stock decompiled files as i found that easier to keep track of the changes. if they're any use to someone, just ask and i'll send you my working files.
Looks Cool! Awesome Work Dude
Nice mod bro btw interested in 2G/3G Toggle mod? Unfortunately my current mod is out of bandwidth till next month so if you want to port it by yourself you'll have to wait until 1st March.. or go to like-p's page on XMP themes and apps and he already ported the 2G/3G Toggle to XMP
any chance of getting back to kill app on its own without all the other stuff?
thanks

i don't see why not... do you need it as an installable zip, or are you more interested in the details of the changes so that you can hack around with it yourself? i'll see if i can get something sorted out for you on this score later on today either way.

2g/3g toggle mod could be a useful addition to this so thanks for the heads-up! i'll have a look and see if i can work out how to include it - i have to admit that the smali code is a complete pita to get my head around - such a shame apktool doesn't decompile into java instead as i've worked with that for over 12 years i don't suppose you know of a language primer for smali code at all?

Smali is essentially a java optimized for dalvik. It's easy to understand once you get used to it only that all the type is included in each object mentioned instead of one include directive on top of java file. another differences is that variable is assigned with a v (v1, v2, etc) and parameter is with p (p0 -> usually a replacement for 'this' inside object based function or just a first parameter in a static function, p1, p2, etc)

well, i've tried to keep the mods as separate as i can while i was doing them so that they could be combined. there's only a few that crossed over significantly, but the control panel mod was one of them. as it stands, i'm toying with the idea of trying to move it beneath the notifications as in landscape mode it takes up most of the available screen space, and the notifications aren't really visible. ideally, i'd do it more like miui, with the page of icons and a page for notifications, with the view defaulting to notifications if any are present. but that's just me - i really liked miui, but for some reason the touch-screen doesn't seem to respond properly on cm7/miui on the arc s. ah, well

sorry about that - i'll have another look at this later on today. might be as simple as me forgetting to put the correct jar file into the zip with a bit of luck :/

second attempt, then: try this instead just tried it on my phone, and seems to work fine for me this time. it still has the 'never' option on the display timeout in there too, as i'm a little pushed for time to pull all of those changes out, but there shouldn't be anything else left in there.
brilliant will give it another go, thank you

** Install Instructions **
Clean Wipe and Flash Talon 1.0.zip (Flash boot.img if you are S-On)
The first time the ROM boots after install, the boot animation will appear to freeze. Just give it a minute and it will finish booting to the home screen.
In the welcome wizard, uncheck the two settings that say "Backup my account to Google." If you have a backup app, Google backup is unnecessary and can confuse the ROM.
At the end of the setup wizard, it may appear to be frozen. Press the home button to open launcher.
By default, the ROM has the system theme. To get the ROM how it looks in the screenshot, first go to System Settings -> Themes and choose to apply your choice of Pitch Black (blue on black) or Jelly Black themes (white on black).
Press home to go back to the home screen and open the Nova Launcher settings. Look for the section that says Look and Feel -> Icon Set. Choose the Minimal icon set (which are black and white icons).
To get the AOKP wallpaper, long-press on the desktop, click Wallpapers then choose "Swag Papers" as the source. The wallpaper in the screenshot is the very first one in the gallery.
For some reason, the Camera icon isn't in the dock by default. All you have to do is open the app drawer, long-press the camera icon and then when the home screen shows up, drag it to the empty space on your dock.

I know lol. I just downloaded and came back to give thanks and the thread was gone.
To anyone who downloads, I just realized I forgot to tweak the MMS app to not split text messages over 160 characters. If you don't want split texts, just use the MMS.apk from one of Neo's roms. I will upload the one from Infection in a bit.
So good to see you back. Love your rom's. Thought you may have gotten a new phone and were gone for good. Thank you for the ROM.

No, a coworker accidentally knocked my 2 TB external hard drive off my desk and killed it. I tried to dev on another PC and ran out of hard drive space. You literally have to have a minimum of 50+ GB free just to work on one ROM.
Neo helped me find a working build setup. It's good to be back! And I plan on being with the Rezound probably at least through January, if not longer. Glad to be part of our little community.
And hope you like the ROM. It's not as fast as Neo's ROMs, but the CrossBreeder mod I baked in makes things pretty snappy.
I gotta say, this is awesome .

Yep running very smooth so far. I love AOKP. For those who still use openpdroid, it works fine, no issues.
As always Brenuga, amazing work. This is the fastest aokp rom I have used to date. I love aokp and am really happy we have you working on it. Great job. Gotta send you some money sir.
Google backup is unnecessary and can confuse the ROM so if I use google to back up should I not try this rom? Confuse like not run like it should.?

issue?
I have flashed this and the rom itself is great so far...but when I went to change the wallpaper to one of the photos from my phone it says "no external storage". I cant even use the camera, says the same. I can mount the phone to pc and see everything as I should and via card reader. Strange thing is I can flash things in recovery with the rom from the external sd...I don't get it. Gonna switch back to previous rom and see if it finds the external storage. Will post back.
