[Q] Sony tablet s custom Roms ? - Sony Tablet S

Will ther b Customs roms for the Sony tab s. ... In hw much tym will b available to us .. ?

first we will need custom recovery like CWM to flash the roms, and know if we can flash custom kernel to unlock the full potential of the beast.
Or there should be devs that make custom roms that we can flash trough pc but even than it is gonna take a while

Don't hold your breath
You may have rooted the sony but there is noone interested in making a custom rom cos there just isnt enough sonys s tablets out there.

Esp as ICS upgrade round the corner so why bother working on a HC ROM

All it takes is one dev that purchases a Sony tab and then begins to mess around with it. Look at what condi has done for our devise. I don't think were too far off for some new creations for our tablet.

Hurray for Condi

Installing ICS directly from Google

After reading all the postings about official ICS update from Sony, I just wonder whether it would be possible to just install ICS as a customized rom, the official Google version respectively. I mean, I could deal with losing all the Sony features. Did the same with my Arc S and it works properly.
I think we might need to be able to root the device first in order to do that

Yep, we'd definitely need at least root and probably a working Custom Recovery too. A modded kernel would make things easier too, all of which are quite a feat to accomplish. At the moment, until we get root, we'll just have to make do with whatever official updates we get.
If it was possible, screen should be calibrated too. Hardware buttons etc. Would NOT be possible, so sorry

Hardware buttons are not necessary in ICS, since just like HC there is a bar at the bottom of the screen that houses the multitasking, home, back and contextual menu buttons.
Would it be possible now? After the rooting? =)
Root is just the first step. Recoveries and ROMs are still in the distant future I would imagine, but root is great!

as unclespoon mentioned, the short answer is no.
Root allows developers and users more access to their system, but the Tablet would need a custom bootloader and recovery before we could get anywhere on this kind of thing, both of which are a very serious undertaking.

[Q] Sony tablet S Android 4.0.3 root

Could anybody let me know please, how to root the Sony tablet with the Android Versio 4.0.3?
Thanks
Klaus
Have a look at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515720
it can't be done at this stage on a device with ICS already installed. You need to preroot the ICS image on a rooted Honeycomb device before you flash it.

Thanks a lot for the answer. Is there any instruction how to preroot ?

Doesn't work
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA
4.0.3 Is unrootable for now maby the devs will find out how to root these kernels that came with the original update. Have a little hope guys
Still the good way
It doesn't work but it's still the good way to go : search the web and test / report anything found about rooting an ICS 4.0.3 device !
If many people do that, we will have a chance to discover something usefull.
Can't wait for ICS Sony Tablet S root!
You gotta love the Devs! That ADB All-In-One tool is amazing! It helped me to make my own copy of ICS to flash anytime in the future.... even if I screw-up my OS. It totally saved me from my temporarily bricked honeycomb Sony Tablet S. I'm happily waiting for their ICS official root tool.
root 4.0.3 ics
Are the devs close to rooting the sony tablet s ics(4.0.3). When do you thi k it will come out
Anyone hear any news on this? I know if they do make root for this version, I will never, ever do a stock update again. I soooooo miss my root!

Where can I donate at? I am willing to chip in if it helps speed up the process

Bring these back alive. Get them to a tempting amount for their efforts. AND hopefully everyone will pay this time
I hope we get root atleast, I screwed up tab and had to force update and got kernel 10 for my efforts lol.

Official Jelly Bean Rom for Xperia Ray ?

Hi everybody, does anyone knows if Sony has planned an update for our Xperia ray to Jelly Bean ?
Or if an update is currently under development ?
Thanks for your anwsers
these is no official jelly bean for xperia 2011 phones the only jelly bean rom is from cm10 and one more guy these both is also under dev...
Sent from my ST18i using xda app-developers app
Sony are 'reviewing' whether jellybean will work "effectively" on Xperia 2011 line, and based on their "research" they will publicly announce whether or not they will bring jellybean to our phones.

I disagree, I think Sony won't offer JB just for the user experience, instead they will avoid it to push the customers to buy new phones.
İf you have time, check and see ICS hardware discussion on official Sony forum:
Some of Sony's newer 2012 ICS phones has same or poor hardware compared to Ray yet they run ICS like a charm.
Im being positive
HAAAAAAX!!!
Just as I said before, Jelly Bean is great thanks to project butter. If they release it for Xperia 2011 line, the biggest problem would be SONY's policy of customizing JB with their own (heavily layered) UI and pushing unnecessary and bad bloatware that kills system performance. But the good part of this would be the release of official drivers, that means more posibilities for developers to cook fully working ROMs, even for locked bootloaders.
One way - CM10.......
We are counting on you!
Thanks for all your answers
But I can't test CM10 because my bootloader is locked :-/
Can I have CM10 with a locked bootloader (I have CWM and a rooted Xperia Ray) ?
Thanks you all, I love this forum

No you can't you need the kernel, and for the kernel, you need to unlock the bootloader, it's the only way. Btw, no jelly bean update at all, or at least that's what i've read, somewhere (can't remember..) because the 2011 line has only got 1 core processors, and it's not enough according to sony developers. Obviously that's stupid, as said before, it runs quite well in the nexus line, wich has similar specs. Take courage, and unlock your bootloader, that's my opinion, 'cause I'm sure that sony won't release Jb for our phones, and a custom rom will always be better anyways.
Best regards..!
Ok thanks, but before unlock my bootloader I will wait for a more stable Rom
And maybe I will try an ICS custom Rom to force me to unlock my bootloader

ooh, once you unlock and start trying slimmed down and alternative firmwares you won't go back.
One of our users called JJdoctor makes an excellent ICS firmware and FXP continue to work on CyanogenMod 10. This is shaping up to be an excellent JB firmware - already very stable and very fast.

Well as I recall they (SONY/GB) said on facebook that 2011 wouldn't get JB but then I saw on Xperia blog I think that it was demented e.g they are "investigating".
Personaly, I think they should end 2011 with Project Butter you know, end while your on top.
The HW should be ok and it's mostly performance optimazing from ICS

Thanks you all but I have a little problem, my phone is sim-locked, I didn't know that isn't possible to unlock the bootloader when a phone is simlocked and I don't want to pay it, I'm student and I don't have a lot of money =/
I woldn't ask for jb, I would be really happy with an ics rom, as smooth and stable as Gb.. And without the chunky camera app it has on ics, quality is way better back in gb.

Challenge to developers

This is an open challenge for all developers.
1) They cannot make a custom kernel in FTF format.
2) They cannot unlock the boot-loader in an unofficial way only through software.

You challenge devs?????
I have answers.
1. FTFs are actually from pc companion/sony dev website. They are signed by Sony and we can't modify it.
2. Well, the software is made that way that without an unlock key, you can't unlock the bootloader.
Anyone is free to add on to my answer.
If devs can't do it, why not you be the revolution for sony devices and create what you asked?

First FTF is just zip archive used by FlashTool,SIN files are signed by Sony with private key and they cant be modified.
Second Bootloader hashes IMEI with PUBLIC KEY,with is then bootloader unlock key.Thats why you need to enter IMEI on Sonys site.

1. It is way easier to copy a flashable .zip into a phone flash via cwm than to go through the hassle of installing flashtool & loads of drivers (which doesn't work on Windows 8, BTW) to flash a ftf.
2. I challenge you to break the encryption of your favourite credit card company's payment service. This is similar to breaking the encryption (128bit ??) that Sony has put into its bootloader signing mechanism.
EASY WAY TO GET ur workk

Well, just have a question
YOU CAN DO THAT?
Their something maybe now can't do, but no one promise it can't begin in the future, all about the time!
And I think this thread is useless cause your what challenge to the developers is just showing you didn't respect them with their hard work!
I apologize for anything I did cause I'm just showing my idea
This thread is useless !!
why challange DEVS ??
NO kind of sense this !
Complete agree bro @Pandemic
It's no-sense to challenge devs !
You were able to modify/create ftf on 2010 phones (something was unsigned I think)
Bootloader could be unlocked without key or being allowed to unlock on 2011 phones (by a hardware hack with some cables)

Well First of all I am extremely sorry for hurting all of you.
Secondly, The idea behind is that I bought Xperia SOLA from a giant store in my country. The box had written VodaFone over my SOLA packing. I asked the shopkeeper and he told me your Phone will be perfectly fine with local sim cards. I came home used SOLA for a couple of weeks and hell yeah, It was ****ing slow. I couldn't believe what I have bought. Then i went to XDA for a custom rom and guess what my bootloader is locked and cannot be unlocked the official way though all sims and network operators are working. Now I started searching for ROMS for LBL and coudn't find the one that fast and stable at the same time. Out of desperation, I challenged the great developers to atleast make a FTF custom kernel for me that is impossible for now. Accept my apologies every body.

Good you apologized mate!
Our devs work so damn hard each and every day just to make our phones work perfectly. Thats no way one can challenge them.
I dont know wether i should be talking about this or not because i am not a dev or anybody, but, You respect them and you get respected back! Thats the one thing i have learnt from XDA!
There is no need to challenge a dev, if they dont didnt do what you are asking is because its not possible or its very hard to do. The devs here work everyday to give us great releases, you shouldn`t make this kind of thread challenging theme, i think its useless.
But anyway, you can use custom roms, but not kernel. You can root your device and get some speed and battery. It takes time but thats why xda is here, everybody learn a lot here and use lots of stuff in config and so on. So read, learn and try...

Its not the issue with the ROM's..... its the device itself which has very low RAM.....
I know many other devices with 512 RAM working great but these NovaThor devices have some issues I guess.
Very True
I might be selling my SOLA if there is no announcement for KITKAT for it in coming few months.
This is downright ridiculous.
