[Q] Official Indian ICS 4.0.3 Package ??? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I found a link in which they said that they have Officail Indian ics update for samsung galaxy s2.
Here it is the link..
http://androidadvices.com/samsung-g...ps-update-official-indian-ics-403-firmware/2/
But i want to know one thing if i flash through odin is binary flash count increase or not becoz i dont waana void my warrenty??
I see at the officail center people also usse odin for flashing..
Please let me know this ??

Flashing stock rom using odin does'nt increase counter.
Be sure you have i9100 not the G one.
On personal note you better off flashing dxlp9. Found it much better than lpq/lp7

buddy if i root my cell than make a backup of efs folder than flash this ics rom. I think rooting will increase my binary count na??

YES as per the faqs .

If you are on 2.3.5, you can use super one click and zergrush to root with out counter going up.
Also mind you even if you are on counter, flashing ics will allow triangle away to do its trick.

Few Suggestions/Questions

Hello,
I've got S2 with Cognizant and Speedmod S2 Kernel. Everything works fine. I'll try to put it as "ordered" as possible.
Few doubts,
1) I'm a Rom Junkie(I came over from x10) and I don't have warranty, I see a lot of people got IMEI changed and even though they backed up "efs" partition, Nothing fixed (It's a hassle to take it to service center). Is there a proper way to safeguard "efs" partition (which contains IMEI) as per what i see on other thread.
2) I'm on a custom rom, How do I get back to official rom using KIES? Do I have to flash an official kernel or get back to official rom+kernel? How does this KIES thing work? I'm from India wondering if there is 2.3.5 update?
3) Why don't we have vodoo kernel just like GS-1? They were awesome.
4) if I flash the latest 2.3.5 will I loose the functionality to remove "yellow" triangle? Do I have to backup the bootloader or update the bootloader? Any clear info on this?
Thanks for all your help and responses, it would be appreciated.

My apologies buddy. If i knew the answers to your other two questions i would of answered in the order you wanted. apologies and i hope you get the info you want...
I dont have all the answers but ill tell you what i know
#1-Yes its a good idea to back-up your efs file. Not hard to do really.
The easiest ways would be:Full nandroid back-up,CWM(although conflicting reports of efs back-up in folders),copying efs folder to /data in phone and not internal-sd with root explorer(apparently internal sd looses permissions when copying). There is Hellcats KTool and apps like Nutrilaty also. Those to me being the easiest
#2-Kies needs to be installed to flash via odin as installing kies installs the drivers.Kies wont bring back a stock firmware, only Odin can do that and kies wont recognize your phone with a none official firmware. It can be used with an official firmware and a root kernel without problems though. If you have an official firmware in your phone and you plug it in to kies and there is a 2.3.5 update it will automatically advise you.
#3-that one i dont know.Sorry
#4-If you flash to 2.3.5 officialy or from another site you will be stuck with the yellow triangle as far as i am aware as it contains the new bootloader and can not be re-set with the jig.You can flash it here on XDA from this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
which contains the old bootloader. Its 2.3.5 XXK13 and lets you re-set the counter and get rid of the triangle.

Its the official Samsung update path you install it first .

[q] risks of de-branding and installing foreing firmwares

Hi. I'm looking for installing an official ICS 4.0.3 firmware, but the thing is that the update hasn't arrived for my country yet. The question is, is it save to de-brand my s2 and to install a firmware from the same company (Orange) but from other country? Has anyone done this before? Pardon me if it's a very simple question for a thread, but I'm new in this
no u can flash ics or any custum roms, but tht voids warranty...so incase u wana claim u got to reset the binary count and come to stock rom....if ur least worried abt all tht ur good to go.....but read threads on how to flash, bckup efs,,,etc
Yes it's safe and simple learn how to use Odin.
It's not de branding if you are flashing again the orange firmware.
If you hadn't rooted before use the NEW root method for ics to avoid the yellow triangle and counter thingy.

by flashing ICS from ODIN, you have already ICS bootloader, and as already instructed above use Triangle away....
follow the instructions of dev too
To clear up any misconception, ICS boot loaders are NOT required for Triangle Away to work. You just need to be on ICS. Member oinkylicious documented using the app with Gingerbread boot loaders just fine.
Thanks for the information, i was awaiting for clearing this doubt...
That T-away works regardles of the BL
Yup, I get the nice kick in the........ To get this info corrected lol.

[Q] brick bug

Hi .. i originally rooted my phone using " zirggles " ? it was something on you tube i found ! well it worked untill my s2 updated to 4.0.4 then i lost part of my root. i still have titanium back up ... but if i run root checker it says i don't have proper root. and some apps i cant download. i have checked and i do have an insane chip ! i want to root my phone properly again, but i know with this chip its risky. would it be ok to flash 4.0.3 firmware .. would this get rid of the brick bug ? if so is there somewhere i can download the firmware ? im curently on XXLQ6 or is there another way of rooting my phone properly again ? i have super user on the phone but it says outdated binary. please be understanding as i only joined yesterday and i am a total noob to this all

4.0.3 firmware is safe, the issue exists only in stock 4.0.4 ICS and if you are on 4.0.4 ICS don't perform any type of wipe, reset etc... Flash 4.0.3 firmware or lower version's like gingerbread or any custom rom with custom kernels, also custom kernels for 4.0.4 version's are safe theoretically but i still wont recommend it because I have seen people brick their phone from CWM, so the problem is with the kernel which has eMMc cap erase command, most custom kernels don't have it, but be warned an old Siyah kernel has it so use the newest one.
For the sake of safety i recommend that you flash 4.0.3 via Odin.

thanks a million

dwnld the tar file of siyah v4.1.5 (for galaxy S2) and flash the same using 'Odin', since its the best way ma8
Latest Siyah 5.0.1 should not be a problem as well. Using it for a week now.

Use the latest Siyah its pretty amazing, i consider Odin as the safest method, even though if you can obtain Siyah as a zip file you can do it via CWM which is also a pretty safe and easy method for noobs, if you downloaded a tar flash via Odin or Mobile Odin.

Flashing stock firmware via Odin

Hello everyone,
For unrooting purposes If I flash a stock firmware 4.0.3 via Odin then will the flash counter increase by one? I have reset it to zero using triangle away app already and my device is rooted and on stock with that super brick bug. Also that I can flash any of the stock firmware like LPQ as long as it is developed for I9100 right? Or there any sort of regional restriction?
Thanks in advance!
Sent from my GT-I9100
ask moderator to move your Question to Q&A section bro, here is development section
You can always reset your binary counter with triangle away or USB jig.
If you are on stock firmware, you are good, because it is samusng's original.
4.0.3 keeps the brick bug away.
Firmwares are separeted by branded & unbranded, they all work on any I9100 devices. Modems, on the other hand, my not work in your country / region. You'll have to flash another one in order to get your network to work.
I am trying to find the answer to the OP.
My S2 has just been replaced after a long struggle with the supplier & Samsung so I have decided not to ever do any custom ROM flashing again.
The above replies didn't really answer the simple question: Does flashing an official ROM like the new 4.1.2 JB with Odin increase the custom rom counter on the phone.
I know this can be reset but it was trying to do that before that bricked my phone and why it had to go back for service. I don't want to do that again but if I know the custom ROM counter will not go up I'm happy to flash official JB with Odin.
My phone is CYV (Cyprus) so likely to be one of the last places to get JB via OTA or Kies.
Thanks

Custom couter stay at zero, but bootloader will by unlocked and "smart" guys in samsung service will know about flash.
@grisoxxl: I did not quite get you. You mean to say that the bootloader once unlocked remains unlocked even If you flash a stock firmware?
And one more thing. When do I need to backup that efs folder? Know about HC ktool?
