Box Seal Broken & Smudges - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Like many pre-orders, I received mine on Thursday.
I was disappointed, however, that the seal has been broken and there were scuffles and smudges in the back near the camera.
Perhaps, mine was opened by US Customs to examine.
I'm wondering if there are many others out there who received their phones in similar condition.
Also, I couldn't find any headphones included. Is that right?

The serial number, hex and dec number on my box were different from the ones on my phone. I had all kinds of problems getting it activated until i pulled the back cover and saw different numbers. The tech support guy at sprint i was on the phone with said he has only seen that 1 or 2 times in the several years hes been there. Customs must have taken it out of the box and put it in another.

Yall are just the unlucky bastards.
1st guy... Probably did check Yours and the agent didn't give a crap.
2nd guy... Lol that is 100 percent the agent was a retard. My of broke it and put a different one in it.

The numbers being switched isn't customs. It was an error htc made. Check out some other threads or insidesprintnow.wordpress.com

Maybe the ups guy just wanted to play with your phone not many people have laid eyes on the thing

Maybe the phone that was originally taken out - was NOT but back in, but they kept the packaging/labeling and threw in another phone? Hence the mismatch numbers. Just a guess Would probably be easier to open a box with no label and just put that phone in the labeled box.

All the phones I have ever had come with headphones (and micro SD too). Odd.
It's a $500-$600 phone, and doesn't include headphones. That's quite perturbing.

My last 2 phones were the EVO, and the EVO 3D, neither of which came with headphones. The way I see it is the headphones that come with phones are usually pretty crappy and I'd rather have them spend that few cents on improving the build quality of the phone. They're most likely going to cut corners somewhere to pay for the headphones they include.

This EVO 3D is such a POS. I was watching The Green Hornet and one of the fight screens quite literally broke the glass ending the 3D experience.

It was a simple 3 foot drop face down on kitchen tile.
I have TEP so it is another $100 and I will have a replacement. The bummer of it is Asurion is out of stock so if I'm lucky I'll have it by week's end.
Update: if I play the movie backwards the phone repairs itself and vocalizes a demonic message!
Seriously I just an email from Asurion that my replacement phone is coming tomorrow.

From my understanding the phone being so new Sprint doesn't have any refurbished units or parts to swap. Therefore I had to use the insurance.
I feel your pain bro. Drowned mine over the weekend and Asurion told me the same thing, out of stock. Luckily they found one...or two I guess, and I'll have my replacement today. Get a hard case! I'm going to invest in some Ziplok baggies myself...

Did you check with a store? My wife had scratches on her evo 4g screen that we showed sprint....(this was like 8 months old) and we asked if there was anything that could be done......they said they couldn't repair it....a few weeks later a brand new evo showed up in the mail to replace hers. No insurance needed. I was surprised myself because we did not demand it or get upset, but it does say they the repair center is supposed to be able to fix damaged phones....might want to check just to make sure....You may still get charged....but its worth the shot.

Maybe next time I am already getting my replacement today and the $100 has been already paid.
Since this would be considered physical damage he took the correct step and contacted asurion. I highly doubt a sprint repair center would fix it.

Dust under the screen

Take it back. Why would you keep something with an obvious defect when they will exchange it with hardly an explanation? Walk in an tell them what's wrong and you'd like an exchange. They will do it.
It may very well be a dead pixel. Dead pixels are not all that rare. I'd say go to/call sprint and say you want a replacement. Who knows how long it will take for you tovget one though.
I would definitely bring it back....it does look like a dead pixel. I had the same problem with my old 2g iPhone and after a few months of use the dead pixel went straight across the screen overnight. Dont wait just tell them you are not satisfied and want a new one. At least you know too that you wont be getting a refurb this early in the game.

That's the only problem with 'take it back', you might have to wait a while. Its not that easy. Sprint stores still have preorders they need to fill as well (which they haven't done yet).
Agreed, swap that sucker out. Good luck on finding one though.. Hopefully the stock issues will get taken care of swiftly.
I had to return my OG evo within the first 30 days because it had the crack by the power button on the casing. Turns out, most of them eventually did this, but they replaced it and before they were giving out refurbs.

If you call them they will drop ship you one just as easily too...I'd call around and see if the stores have any in stock(not likely though)....If not just call and you'll get one shipped to ya for less hassle for going into the store and likely just as fast if they dont have any in stock right now at the store...

yes there is lots of issues but soon as you do a chat at sprint.com its solved in less then 10 minutes

SERO plan or something equivalent to that like the EPRP ones?....If so you'll have to get a very very nice customer service rep to do it for you b/c evidently your only supposed to order phones through sprint on those plans...ran into this last year with my 3D and the rep said 3rd party just doesn't have the ability to do it...b/c they are basically employee plans...

Ooh look at me, I've got my new phone. And it works great....... lucky.

I got told this as well for my proximity sensor problem. They told me they are not allowed to just ship another phone out... such bull****.
I have a similar spec of dust under the screen in mine. It's so small I barely notice it. Unless there are more serious issues with the device, i'm not going to lose sleep over it or bother returning it.
This spec is only noticeable on a white background. I'm not OCD enough to be bothered by this When viewing the phone in a bright environment (outside), you don't see it at all. Having a spec of dust under the screen protector is much more noticeable than this.

Today was supposedly the launch day but both Sprint and Best Buy said they haven't heard anything and both acted like I was an idiot when I asked about them

Nice that they are doing that, but does anyone actually use the silicon cases anymore? I though most would use TPU at minimum. Maybe just me, but silicon cases always collected tons of dust and stretched like crazy after 1 or times taking it off the phone.
That will work, gives me some protection for the holiday weekend since my other case won't get here until Wednesday next week. Definitely a classy move to do that without any prompting etc.

Hey, just thought I post this, sprint just sent me a complementary case to make up for the pre-order patent delay. That was nice of them.
What does the back of the case look like?
I've got one being delivered today as well, apparently. Too bad I've already got a Seidio case and don't like blue cases.
I checked ups using my account number plus zip code since its said too many shipments and its on the truck for today. Very nice of sprint even we know it costs them a buck to make etc but still nice of them.

Guess I spoke too soon. Looks like I have an extra package coming today as well. Kinda funny cause I just ordered a casefrom telesales that should be here today as well.
In any case it's a very nice gesture that sprint and htc are doing. Even if I didn't get anything from them I wouldn't be complaining as the phone was well worth the wait.

Beware lots of defects

i highly suggest being very carefull because many defects with this evo, my camera doesnt even zoom in and take pictures correctly.....this is insane. i will never give in again, samsung all the way baby
user error? mine works just dandy! recorded the whole Devils celebration over the rangers and too kstills at the same time. zoomed in and out perfectly.
That's tragic, you made the determination that there are lots of defects based on your experience with the phone you got. Seems kind of silly. I would say based on the number of phones shipped, and the few comments on defects I have read in ALL the forums I visit.
In all honesty, both Samsung smartphones I had were buggy. Not just defective, but permanently borked in one way or another. GPS that doesn't lock? Yep, I had one.
Don't swear off one company just because you got a lemon. Samsung has its lemons too. When life hands you lemons.. send it back for a good one

if it is only a camera issue.. can you live with it for a week or 2.. till they can get you another one?

i have no problems with my camera zooming in or out.. so what else you got?
only problem with my camera is that sometimes it over saturates the picture, but it also works out to my advantate, i take pictures when its getting dark and the grass looks nice and green as if it was a sunny day. Lovin it.

since when has SS become the benchmark for good quality phones? They had a plethora of issues when the S and S2 first released as far as I'm concerned. My cousin got his S2 in Jan/ Feb this yr and it is buggy as hell and by that time the phone had been out way too long.
But anyway my suggestion: return your phone and wait for the S3. I think you will never be able to be satisfied w the quality of HTC phones because you have already formed a conception about them. Even the buggiest Samsung phone will be better than an HTC good phone according you. Return it and get another phone. At the end of the day it's your money your experience you should get what makes you happy. And by doing that you are doing goods as well since there are less negativity going on around.

My wife's camera is busted also. So I am waiting either bestbuy to get more stock, or 30 days to pass and go to Sprint to have it switched out on insurance.
i think after this im done, im moving on to a different obsession.... this is the last straw, im done on xda, done caring anymore about smartphones, will try to get back into video games.......and comics.... this **** isnt worth it anymore

I have no issues with mine, get it replaced instead of opting for a plastic Samsung phone.

First u were jumping the HTC ship to Samsung because of one camera defect. Now jumping the smartphone ship altogether because u have to send it to a manufacturer who's willing to fix it for u even though u don't have the original receipt?

it was just the handset. i was moving the base when the handset fell from about 1-2 feet straight onto the screen.

lol i using my work phone for the time being.
back on my htc one as my personal.
so i filed a claim through assurant. ehh. not looking good. they dont have the lg g2 in the system. the rep was trying to give me the lg g2x. lol. i explained to him the lg g2 is a new phone that just was released. he said it wasnt showing up in the system. i was like its probably cuz the phone doesnt official, release until this wednesday.
i checked my claim today online to see whats up. (had to fax in a document also). they revived the document. so that was good. but the device being claimed was the lg g2x. i was like wtf. called them asap. talk to a rep. explained th phone situation. she made sure that they had to call me before processing the claim to make sure i get the phone that i am supposed to get. she said to call back in 3 days.
dont like this process. why offer insurance if they dont have anything. gonna talk to tmobile in a few days
2 weeks later with the insurance (huge headache i might add), i finally got a replacement yesterday. looked brand new in box. except the stickers were cut, so dunno.
