Tick sound - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So if I tap the top of my screen or shake my phone I hear some sort of "tick" sound. Anyone noticed this? Is this normal or?...

It's the loose power/wake button on the right hand side. This is common in Samsung phones.

I'm actually pretty convinced it's coming from higher (somewhere near the camera). Also if I hold the button still with my finger I still hear the sound. It's pretty obvious when you tap on the screen. When you tap on the top of the screen it kinda sounds clicky while on the bottom just "normal"

I just want to know whether this is normal or not.

Neither if you shake or tap your phone?..

I get this if I tap around the speaker and front camera. In fact I believe it might be the speaker...

Yeah could be..

Anyone else?

Damn you - hadn't noticed this and now it will bug me
I thought it might be the internal part of the headphone connector at first but more playing (and tapping) and I agree, I'm sure it's the front (earpiece) speaker cover bit.
Guess they are all like this, not something most people (me included) would notice until you try.

Yeah I just noticed it even though I already had mine for some time. It kinda bugged me. But knowing that it is normal makes me find it less irritating.

Shake it, what do you hear?

everyone shake your photon and let me know if u hear any internal rattles. im hearin on in mine, and i thought maybe it was the tab for the SIM but i pulled the cover off and held it and its not that.
anyone know where its coming from if yall have the same noise? its gonna drive me insane!
I think it has to do with the camera lens. The lens makes a noise too when you open the camera app.

ahh... i think you are onto something. when i open the camera app up, the noise gets less, it must be something with the zoom and such. guess ill be able to sleep. for a while there i thought the dang thing was falling apart in my hands
Mines the same also....clicky camera

That's the only thing I don't like about the Photon, and mainly because it inflames my OCD.

there has been threads on this before lol. its the lense cover inside the camera, its loose when its closed. soon as you turn the camera on it you hear the click when it opens and it gets locked snugly in place.

This! They all do it, nothing to be worried about really.

it's volume buttons or camera lenses.
Upon reading this, i gave my phone a thourough shake and found that i was hearing something rattle around in there. I switched on my camera - shook - and the rattle was still there. Listening closely, i heard it coming from the bottom of my phone, any ideas on what this is? Its not a big deal because i hardly shake my phone. i just want to make sure that it isn't going to be a problem in the long run.

i searched "noise in phone" and such, but now i see i needed to search "rattle"
question answered anyways, thats what the forums are for.
My camera button is loose and rattles. It does not bother me enough to take the phone back but I do wish it was in there solid like my friends photon.
I hear the rattle...not from the buttons thou..sounds like the camera lense
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I believe that rattle is from the shaky micro sd card if you have one. For some reason it doesn't make the noise when the battery is off. Or maybe it is the camera...but i highly doubt its the camera.
It is most likely the position sensor that lets the phone know it's orientation.
Folks, this has been covered. The camera lens cover hangs loose and when the camera starts it's pulled aside and fixed into place. Can be verified easily by starting the camera application or a flashlight application and noting that the rattle stops.

Possible broken speaker

Nooo i was in the bath and i always leave phone on tiled side with music on (back facing down as it sounds louder). I do it all the time, its not really near but i must have flicked some water over and its gone into the speaker and its gone really tinny. It also stops playing at random. I know this is probably a little futile but does anyone have any suggestions for how to dry it out (if possible) or if there is anything i can do to sort it out. Cheers

Do you mean the earpiece or the speaker? Try a hairdryer

Slow wifi while holding/touching phone

Anyone notice a significant slowdown when touching or holding the phone?
I go from 65Mb to 5mb. With 2Mb of actual speed.
Very annoying.

Is there a special way to hold it that is not obvious to me. I can guess that the antenna is the top left corner.

Thanks, from what I have experienced, this phone is almost as bad as the iPhone for this issue. Why would they put the bloody antenna in the bottom left.
I get the same, unless I'm in the same room as the router I have to hold the phone in my right hand and keep my fingers behind the phone and the WiFi becomes unusable if I hold it in my left hand

I have not experienced this before. What are you running? You can refer to the thread in my sig for the info you need to include to get the best results to your question.

I'm on Resurrection 3.0.6 with the newest Siyah. Have tried most kernels too.
I feel like this issue is worse in jb but I'm not sure. I am thinking to downgrade to ginger just to try.
But I agree with the above I max out around 1mbs when holding with my left hand.

Unidentified hole on device.

Hey.
I was wondering, on the top left corner of the phone there's a hole. What is that for?
I've been theorising that it might be kind of a ventilation hole for the CPU, but I'm not sure.

No, it's right above the volume buttons.

Quite near the top of the phone above the volume rocker that's to attach a lanyard to the phone
Haha i also noticed it sometime, then i googled it and found out its for keychains, or hello kittys if you know what i mean xD, its for straps. Not all models have it.

Ah. Then I have another question. What is a "lanyard"?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Its so you can attach something to your phone that you can wear round your neck or round your wrist or to attach a phone charm
Thanks for the info

Has anyone noticed the notification light on the back or the phone?

Wow, big surprise to me. I was sort of annoyed at the small size of the notification light on the side of the screen, but I just realized that they put one on the back of the phone, and its much larger. Cool!
Yep

Yep. Most of the time I'm using the phone for voice chat (phone call or VOIP usually), the phone is face down. It automatically switches to speaker when the phone is face down so all you need to do is either hit call or hit answer and place the phone on your coffee table while you work. Very convenient feature and you don't have to worry about missing notifications while it's face down because of the rear notification light. This also applies when you leave the room for a bit and return. I personally love the feature but from what I've heard, other people consider it a nuisance. To each his own I suppose.
I haven't really noticed it, seems kinda useless.
Too bad most of the cases cover it
