Has anyone successfully managed to cut a T-Mobile SIM down to micro size? My SIM seemed to be aligned quite unusually before I cut it - with the gold contact almost flush with one of the long edges - so I cut it so that the gold contacts were roughly centred between the long edges. I also cut off the same corner as the original SIM. Problem is the phone isn't recognising the SIM card

Go to a store and get a new sim. Then have them cut it.

its not hard to find, there is an image you can print out and cut out that fits the micro sim....and all you have to do is tape it to the mini sim and cut away the extra edges....instead of just trying to eyeball it.

I found the template on the net, printed it, but found that that SIM card was significantly larger than the printed template. Also, if I'd cut along the guide lines I would have needed to cut part of the gold contact (due to the odd alignment described above), which clearly wasn't a good idea.
Can I get a replacement SIM with the same number/account?

Yes. And they have a tool that will cut it.

yea sims are no big deal......they will give them to you if you go in and ask for them. well i know at&t will, i just tell them i was switching phones and i dropped it in the seat or some crap. but im sure they will just give you one.
yes i bought one of those things on ebay that look like a stapler and cut the sim card fine and it worked in my phone
Just use a clipper, u can buy one for about a fiver. Cutting isn't as easy but its not that hard. Just use a decent blade.

Anyone know of a dual sim kit that DOESN'T require cutting? I ask because i have 2 contract sims, one for work one for home.
I'm also still looking for that.....but I think it doesn't exist. I always have my two sims in my phone. One is well in its place ans the other one is in the cover. When I need to change, I switch the phone off and I change the card. It's the only way I found.
There is not enough space to put a Dual sim holder with no cut under the cover.
when i had an 8210 it had a dual sim that was 2mm thicker than a sim card the same one will fit but is not 3g compliant

Can you tell me where you buy it, or do you have some reference.
If you say it fits between the battery and the cover, it begin to be nice. 3G isn't so important for me

ok i managed a little test, so it works i used magicsim 23th -B. Stk menu, switching everything works but the problem is to fit it inside, under battery there is no place at all, and under cover its somehow fit but the cover is not as it supose to be. now im buyng 6 in 1 magic sim and im going to try that.
Thank you for your test, Pilknik11. The biggest challenge is to fit the dual sin under the cover of the phone.
Maybe with and extended batterry cover, it could fit near the camera lens. But it's a bit bulky.

So I went on a cross border journey today to purchase a Springboard on craigslist at an excellent price.
I was very tired when I got home but wanted to tinker with it a bit before bed. I grabbed a microSD I had lying around and inserted it... straight into the SIM slot :-(
I have been trying a few things but avoiding using anything metal because it might damage the SIM contacts. Part of the problem now is, the card got pushed past the metal SIM contacts, and now it won't fall out on its own because the contacts are in the way.
Any ideas on how to save the tablet without damaging the ability to use a SIM card? I don't mind if the SD card gets destroyed.

What did you exactly do with the needle?
What I'm afraid of us that even if I do manage to coax it out, it could force one of the SIM contacts to bend backwards and snap. Then I'd really be boned.
There's a mall sort of on my way home from work that's full of Asian cell repair/unlock shops. Maybe one of them can help. For the price I paid (only $140 for tablet + leather case!) I don't mind forking out a bit more to protect it.
Worst case if it breaks I could see if T-Mobile can be charmed into doing a swap or sending it for repairs. It's just a hell of a haul for me to get out there - each way is an hour of driving time plus 30-60 minutes lining up for the border.

I left it with a shop that repairs all sorts of obscure mobile devices - they said if they can get it out they'll charge $30. I figure that's better than ruining it myself!

The shop said they had to disassemble it to get the card out, but didn't have to break any warranty seals or such. I will just call this a $30 lesson in humility...

Serious fail here too.. I put an empty microsim converter in the slot and a SIM pin broke when I yanked it out. How did your repair go? Did they manage to open it up and get the SD card out?
I just removed the screws but couldn't get the back cover off
They had to do a minor disassembly but it went well.
If you broke a contact, you should probably get very expert help.

Same issue here. Micro card went down the slot, tried yanking it out and got overly aggressive and the SIM slot is pulled apart and the SIM connections are a mess I need a reliable shop that can take care of this issue for me. Any suggestions?

It really depends on where you live. I was at least smart enough to stop when I realized that getting any more aggressive would damage the SIM slot.
Nice snip. I guess I could just hot spot it from my ATT Galaxy Skyrocket, or use wifi. Yea I don't know what I was thinking to be honest.
But I would appreciate any information on this. If you know of a reliable source for the repair of these types of issues please let me know.

Easy fix.

Get a Bobby Pin
Flatten it.
Remove the the stub at the end
Slide in and pry out the MicroSD card.
Did this like twice.

Please don't encourage risky fixes. In my case, the card slid past the SIM contact, such that pulling it out would have bent and probably snapped the contact.

Again where do you live?
I went to a mainly Asian mall in the Vancouver area that has lots of obscure electronics shops where they know how to fix rare devices, and where I can soothe my technological anxieties with some nice bibimbap in a hot stone bowl. Is there an equivalent where you live?

Just did it
First post: come from a very old nokia phone, Thank you all for this splendid forum.
Was doing a lot of things at same time, copied modules to the sd card and pushed it in the sim slot.
I used a very small flat screwdriver and bent both sides of the cover of the simslot outwards, then you can lift it a little.
Turned around the media pad ,shaked it a little and voila the sd card came out, pushed and bent the sides back.
Pushed the three contacts back, on the second attempt the sim card was recognised, it has to stick out about three mm.
I think i broke the lock.

I had the same problem today... stuck a micro SD in the SIM slot.
It got pass the golden gates(the sim contacts). But I actually managed to get it out so...
The solution was actually simple,but maby I just got lucky ... I used a paper clip, bent it sorta like a hook and tried to get it behind the micro card when it was at the end of the sim slot. It moved nicely since it has a lot of room there. I was careful not to touch the sim contacts and it worked. My sim works, the micro sd works, all well...
wish I knew I could use a paper clip before I opened my phone xD
Fool Proof Extraction of mini SIM card from Springboard SIM Slot
Yes, I too push the small sized SIM all the way to the bottom of the slot.
Followed the directions of previous extraction: Bent an 1/16 " end on a paper clip.
This allowed me to move the small SIM in a slightly diagonal position as the bottom of the slot, allowing me to slip the hooked end under the chip.
With the screen facing you, the clip goes in on the left side which has the most side space away from the gold tangs
Now the question was how to get past the gold tangs that face the bottom of the SIM slot.
Cut an old credit card along the length to a width slightly less than the mini SIM width.
Insert the credit card (like a shoe horn) into the slot covering the tangs.
Pull gently on the paper clip and you will feel the small SIM bump the bottom of the credit card.
Slide both gently out so the SIM moves over the tangs as the credit card shoehorn moves out of the way.
Whew!

I had the same problem and found a solution. I had a regular sized SIM card that I trimmed to fit into the phone but I guess that unless you trim it to a perfect size then the battery cover won't fit.
I trimmed the SIM card to be flush with the top of the SIM slot - there should be a minimum or no extra plastic from the SIM card above the SIM port. Now my phone back cover seats perfectly.

In the UK, the sim cards supplied with the Xperia S from providers are really small i will take a photo and upload it in an edit just to give people an idea of how small they should be if they come across this issue they can trim it to the size of mine

Thanks - there are also guides for trimming up regular sized sims to micro sims like this website - do a google search and tons would come up (XDA won't let me post them since I'm a new member).
Does anyone else's phone constantly drop signal or randomly say you don't have a SIM card in? Is there anywhere I could gget a thicker SIM card or tray to solve this problem? This is my second unit and it has the same problem as the first one

This appears to be a relatively common issue.
What I did was just tape a small piece of paper onto the plastic side of my SIM card to give it a bit more thickness and push the connection a bit tighter, and I haven't had any problems since.
Just make sure you do not get any paper or tape jammed in your slot.

Try just one piece. That with the tape might be enough. You could try folding it, but again take care not to make it jammed/ too hard to get out.
I had the same issue. I simply placed a 2-3 pieces of tape on the back on the sim card, they dont need to cover the entire back on the sim card. I had this problem daily and since I put the tape on the back I haven't had any problems and its been about two months.

I was cheap (or maybe resourceful is a better word maybe? lol), and just cut one out myself. I "traced" my full-size SIM onto an old gift card with an exacto knife. Then I measured where the microSIM was supposed to fit on the full size SIM (lined up the contacts on the back), and "traced" the microSIM on the cutout of the full-SIM. Voila, home-made adapter .

you don't need adapter. just slide it in and be careful to position it correctly. I am running mine off micro sim with no adapter right now.
Can you post a pic of where its positioned at? I've tryed that and i can never get it

Yeah. Here you go. Had it like this since I got the phone in Nov 2011 with no problems. Just center the card on the 4 contacts below and then position it so that it is centered vertically under the cover.
So I take it that it is working now?

I just never wanted it to slip off the contacts accidentally, so I made an adapter to "hold" it in place lol.

Yeah, when I first got the phone I thought the Verizon sales rep was an idiot for giving me the wrong sim, but the store was closed, so I couldn't take it back so I just tried it and it worked. I was worried about it moving in there for a while, but even after all this time and stuff I've put this phone through, it has never moved.
