Nyko Android Gamepads coming this Fall - Transformer TF300T Accessories

There's the Playpad and the Playpad Pro (larger).
They are Nvidia certified so they'll work perfectly with Tegra Zone games. They also created an app to do keyboard mapping or touch emulation with the controller, so you can get it to work with most games once you create or download a profile from the apps catalog of published profiles.
They connect via Bluetooth and recharge via USB. The Playpad also comes with a case and a stand to set your tablet on while gaming. No pricing yet, but they said it will be under $50. Looks like a complete gamepad solution for Android.

I'm looking to pick up the smaller Playpad when it comes out. I really like the compact design.
Can see the controllers and the mapping application demonstrated here. It's a very cool app they made. Makes creating and getting profiles very easy.

I will definetly get one when it's released! Looks very cool and small, so easy to bring along

Is there any benefit to one of these vs. a PS3 gamepad? (for PS3 owners and not having to buy another gamepad device)
I've seen vids of people using the PS3 sixaxis gamepad for games and compatible emulators like turbo dosbox, and it looks like it works great.

I've been using a PS3 gamepad with my tablet and it works pretty well. I've been using the sixaxis app for touch emulation and the results are mostly positive on that front as well. That being said, I still plan to get one of these Nyko controllers. The biggest reason is that I want something more portable. The touch emulation software also looks superior compared to the sixaxis app I've been using. It looks easier to use and the fact that Nyko is going to maintain a database of profiles to download is very cool too.

I like the big one, i use a ps3 pad now, but i pefer the 360 layout on the big one

The smaller one looks nice. Though, I wish it would come with a clip so I can set my phone on it.

Looks great ! Can't wait for it to be released !

haven't used my tablet for gaming much but this could change my mind. looking forward to getting some emulators on my TF300T

wow,
when i posted the link above, i saw the product page said "this item will be released on october 2nd".
today is october 2nd, and it's already out of stock.
and there's a 5-star review too
not sure if i should buy this, or wait for other controllers, such as the powera moga
edit: just noticed the review was posted on october 1st, so i misremember the release date

When I asked them about an official release date :
Nyko Technologies : "We will have a formal announcement regarding the PlayPad release shortly. Stay tuned!"
Hope their "shortly" looks like mine

So they pulled on Asus?
Announced it months ago, never really had a true release date but it came out and sold out immediately and a "formal" announcement coming soon?
This means this is going to be the best freaking controller ever and beat the iControlpad 1+2, PS3 Dualshock, and all the controllers out there and coming out.
Seriously, this thing can map the keys using ANY game without root access or bt controller app. It looks extremely easy and I don't think you will have to map every game. Some games are native like Sonic, GTA, and some others that already have the controls. I really love how it looks like the wii classic controller. The extra colors are cool too. I think the pad will sell more than the one that looks like a full console controller. If only they can release it properly.
I checked the other day and amazon said 3-5 weeks. I checked today and it's out of stock again..
Gamestop says 10/11/12 for the black and white classic esque style. The full controller says 10/12/12
...I bet a day or the day of they will say out of stock. Really tempted to pre-order it right now. Has anyone pre-ordered from gamestop? I've thought about calling a gamestop or two and seeing if they know anything. Need me some dead trigger, max payne, and muffin knight. Yes muffin knight. I doubt this would work with onlive though. But I still have my onlive controller at least

If anyone still cares about this the PlayPad Controller (Pro) is available and in stock at gamestop in store and online.
The playpad (classic looking controller) was supposed to come out today but I called gamestop and they told me it is slated for release tomorrow. It's strange though, they told me if I ordered one it wouldn't be shipped until the end of the week.
Amazon, is a complete mystery and shows the normal controller as out of stock and shows the play pad pro for next year.
There is already a review on amazon and gamestop for the controller and the playground app. It sounds EXTREMELY promising but the touch controls are the only thing that aren't ready yet. So they can't be mapped with touch profiles like six axis. But the app is in beta and says coming soon. I believe you can map it to keys though.
So muffin knight should work epicly
I am contemplating if I should go buy the pro controller tonight or wait for the classic controller tomorrow. I'm glad that gamestop seems to at least have them in stock and not be low on them. Probably because barely anyone knows about them.
I'm just glad this product is starting to see the light of day.

I wish it had the clip like the MOGA... Does anyone know if it is recognized as a standard Bluetooth HID? The moga is not, so it needs a special driver, which has ruled it out for me. So I am hoping the playpad gets this right.

I CANT WAIT FOR THIS!!! hopefully will be available in Australia!

It does recognize as a standard Bluetooth HID. It has 3 modes too. HID mode for games that support it like GTA, tegra games like dead zone and games that naturally recognize any controller like sonic cd and emulators and roms. The other is mouse mode. I OWN at jetpack joyride now. Literally I am just having the cursor anywhere on the screen and just tap a button to make barry fly and dodge those lasers and damn missiles like a pro. I this can be useful in other games too. Also to select options and navigate the tablet.
The other is app mode which is used specifically for the playground app and the controls that are already set up. GTA for example. You don't need the app to use the controller though. But for some games that are already programmed it doesn't hurt. You can also map them via the keyboard but only keyboard mapping right now. They promised touch mapping later. It's beta. And you can map any app or game. But you can also use it for PC games. It worked for Sonic Generations but not quite for Alan Wake. Alan Wake doesn't really let you map controls though. It's PC though there's gotta be a work around.
Oh right there is also something for icade which no one cares about.
But what I love about the controller the most is the design, feel, mouse mode to navigate, and the fact that games that support HID are instantly recognized. Yeah, you can set it with six axis (which I have) but it feels nice sometimes to have things that just work. But for those that have six axis I don't see any real reason to get this. Unless they like it and want to support the company or just want something besides six axis.
I really wish this controller got more spotlight then the moga. The moga seems fail the way the app system looks and the controller is meh-ish looking. I also like the classic nes style looking nyko controllers. Oh and both nyko controllers are on sale at gamestop now. No more screwing around with release dates.

so who actually owns one of these things? is it worth buying or should i use the sixaxis app with my ps3 controller like i do with my phone?

Coolboarders - Not worth it
I just blew $6 on Coolboarders. I remembered playing Coolboarders 2 on the original PS, so thought this was a safe bet to try out the new PlayStation store. The graphics are kinda choppy, and the controls are really difficult. I'd hold off if you have your eye on Coolboarders, at least until the tablet works with a PS3 controller.
Its annoying because I have like 20 PSone games on my PS3 that I would have to repurchase to play on the tablet.
If anyone could rip /data/data/PACKAGE_NAME/libs/lib*.so for a PSN store game or get it out of the APK, PM me. I want to know how much the emulator has changed and if it would be more compatible with psxperia.
I downloaded WILD ARMS last night and played it for about 2 hours, I remember it being one of my favorite PS titles back in the day. Pretty fun, basic, linear RPG. Controlling the game with the on screen controller is very simple in this classic style rpg, but I could see how it could get more difficult on the faster-paced games since it's hard to keep a close eye on your thumbs while you're playing. That being said, animations were smooth and, although not improved much from the PS days - as expected - everything played perfectly. Would give 4.5/5 stars! I'll probably be downloading syphon filter and maybe midevil today!
yifanlu, if I knew how I might...
I watched a youtube video of someone playing Crash Bandicoot on the Sony Tablet S using a Logitech wired basic controller and every button worked, so I pulled mine out, plugged it in, and everything worked perfectly, I am excited. So I download a couple of games, start them up, and you know what? Not 1 of them worked with the controller perfectly (either the up down left right worked and the buttons didn't, or vice versa...). Yeah, I didn't expect for the Logitech controller to work, but after Crash Bandicoot, I was hopeful. Needless to say I don't like the button on screen style that Sony is insisting we use (until Playstation controllers are compatible).
I wonder when some good games are going to become available - I like RPG's so am anxious about FF7 (and all the FF titles, really), but there are many games I like on the PSX (Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal, Tony Hawk, Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, and on and on I could go...).

Word. I don't care how "livable" touch controls can be. No physical buttons = fail.
I know it's Sony, and everyone is trying to make bigger profits, but sometimes you got to give a little to get a lot. This is out right before Christmas season and by offering some nice incentives might make this more appealing to buyers (and existing owners - you know, word of mouth).
It'll never happen, but I wish they would make it like an emulator so we could have more options, although it would probably require root. Funny thing about root with this, I had the manager at the Sony store in the mall tell me that "it will not void the warranty if I was to root the Sony Tablet S." Granted there isn't a program to root it, yet, that I know of, but would like the extra versatility it offers.
So I ended up buying Hot Shots Golf, Destruction Derby, and Wild Arms - none of them worked with either of my (wired) controllers (I have 2, both Logitech, one with the joysticks and one without, both had the issues I mentioned in my previous post so I guess you could say they half worked...). The graphics weren't bad, maybe a little better than the original Playstation, but it's been so long since I played on one I couldn't say - I never played a psp.
I just checked out of curiosity and once you buy a game (now all are $5.99), it appears that you can download it at any time - in case you don't have the memory on your tablet, or need to delete a game to make more room.
I bought a Seagate GoFlex portable 500gb hard drive at Wal Mart on sale for $50 a while back yet I have Windows 7 and it was formatted to NTFS (with Windows 7 you can't format to FAT 32 which is needed to be compatible with the Sony Tablet S). I finally took the time to find a program to do so, so now I can store all my music and video's (too bad not emulator's and roms...) and have access to them on the go. What else might I be able to do with an external hard drive and this tablet?
Does anyone know when more games are going to be released on the Sony Store?
Did anyone tried with Xbox360 USB controller?
I'm using the Wiimote, works like a charm..
use Wiimote controller app from market and you should be able to play every game, even the Psx games. (i use the Wiimote when playing NES games trough Nes.emu)
i saw on youtube when using the Logitech wired game controller the played Crash Bandicoot with a Psx emulator, think it was called FPSe (google it)
Wfr Peter
Stay away from hot shot golf 2. Delay on swing and just not good. I remember when it came out for my ps. Loved it. This is the same game but the touch screen gives it a delay and it just Doesn't do it.

I refuse to buy games from the PS Store on this until they properly integrate it with purchases I have already made on my PSP/PS3 I am not paying again for the same game I have already bought previously.

what is the most portable gaming controller compatible with the prime?

Like the title says, I like to find a game pad that is portable enough to carry around.
I see the zeemote available from Amazon. Anyone has experience with this?
It only has one analog stick...is that a problem?
ps3 controller?
It's not out yet
http://steelseries.com/products/other/steelseries-ion-wireless-controller
Can't wait for this one
http://www.icontrolpad.com/order/
I would love one of these for portability but they are spendy. It would fit inside a case easily.
I have the zmote, and it works well. It is very small, which some people don't like.
The steelseries looks pretty sweet too bad it isn't out yet.
the zmote doesn't play all the game tho right? since it only has one analog stick?
Small is what i'm looking for so zmote look okay too.
Been using the PS3 controller which works great. But a bit bulky in my laptop case. Looking forward to other options.
The Gametel bluetooth controller looks pretty portable. It is intended to be used with Android and iOS phones (hence the phone clip) however since it is bluetooth it should also work fine with tablets. It is also pretty portable.
The only downside is that it seems to be pretty hard to find 'stateside.
http://gametel.se/
The gametel one like the zeemote only has one directional control or analog stick so I don't know about the game mileage i can get out of it...
That Gametel one is a rip off the iControlPad anyway. I recommend every check the ICP out; it's made by the same people who made the OpenPandora.
My icontrolpad is in the mail on its way here now. Ill let you know how it goes.

How is the Gametel controller a rip of the iControlPad?
It has a different button layout, it looks completely different and best of all it doesn't have "i" at the beginning of its name.
I've got the icontrolpad since almost a year now. Bought it right when it first came out, and i have to say its just soo worth it. It has the perfect d-pad, better than ps3/xbox even, in my opinion. Also the analog nubs are really nice to have, and its the perfect mix between portability and comfortably to use.
You can even emulate xperia play control input (except the analog pads) with an app called BluezIME and the best thing is that most emulators have native support. For example n64oid has full native analog support on the icp. Zelda OOT is just a blast this way.
Well i'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for something portable and has a wide compatibility range. That thing connects to anything. If you one day decide to go for something from Apple (shame on you ) it even works with ios.
Oh have i mentioned, if you use it with your phone its even able to charge it while you're playing. It has a pretty big battery inside.
Sure its a bit more expensive than other products, but the ICP is an indy product and its worth supporting the devs behind it. They are always in the forums giving all the support they can.
I use a PS3 controller through Bluetooth and it is a great fit for me. Its smaller than an xbox remote or the on live or gamestop controller.
I think I am just going to wait for this one:
http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/retro-gaming/ecea/
It seems to offer the same features as most of the other controllers, yet is the only one offered at a reasonable price.
Can any of these smaller keypad emulate what sixaxis app can do where you can create on screen layout? If you're not familiar with what I'm talking about, basically you can overlay a virtual dpad, buttons, anywhere on the screen so when you press dpad or specific button on the controller it will trigger the corresponding onscreen overlay. This makes the controller work for any games not just emulators.

anyway, just received it today, and let me tell ya, the iControlPad freakin ROCKS. played some 30 minutes of Super Mario World on Snesoid on my prime and it is AMAZING. and now im thinking about using emulators on my phone, it is THAT awesome. (i have a ds flashcart, thus portable emulators would only be redundant, but the ICP is so amazing i cant NOT use em now!)

This is a pointless thread. This is like me saying my Alienware M17x R3 laptop has amazing graphics and games are out of this world or heck my PS3 for that matter. I wouldnt buy a tablet for gaming I doubt many people do that being said I want a PS Vita but I am not interested in any of the current games I will wait for a 9-10 score out of 10 game.
lol, no sh*t sherlock... I enjoy watching my blurays more on my tv as well, sound is better on the surround set too.
Hey guys, I bought a dedicated gaming handheld that has like 22 buttons, and lol, it's better at gaming than the slab of glass I was using before.
Lol, I got a vita and a prime. Enjoy both for gaming and both serve their purposes. I love my prime for playing retro nes, snes & n64 games. Especially using the HDMI out. I love my prime!

Exactly. I got Vita at launch and even though I love it, it is cannot replace Prime. Both have their respective pros and cons in regards to gaming.
Lol..he getting flamed left n right. I'm sure the vita is probably better since it is a "Dedicated" gaming system. If i had to choose between one or the other, I'd pick the prime all day. Its a way better value and runs circles around the fits based on all the different things it can do and its features. Plus I haven't seen one vita game yet that looks better than Shadowgun THD or Riptide THD. Plus Sony PS games coming to android anyways. The vita has developers dedicated to only making games. I'm sure once time passes we will also have games that look as good or better than the vita. Specs are similar with the prime being alot more powerful in alot of aspects. Prime is best of both worlds. Plus ill take the larger better quality display of prime over a small 5 in. Anyday. Vita Is a great device. Even considering getting one. But as i think about it more, I can get games just as good on the prime. ANDROID apps n games will sell alot more than vita games. Meaning these games will reach more users or gamers. Alot of people ditching console systems now in favor of mobile gaming on IOS or android.

Yeah, the VITA screen is awesome. They have zero light bleed because of the screen technology. And everything on mine worked as advertised out of the box, even Wifi and GPS on my 3g Model.
It is a great piece of hardware, but it is a dedicated gaming device. The Transformer Prime wears quite a few more hats.

Nice. I'll add you as soon as I'm done adding music to my Vita.
UMvC3 is awesome on the Vita!! I can't believe I am playing it on a portable in all of it's glory. I just got time to sit down with Uncharted.........AMAZING! Wipeout 2048 is the best portable game graphics wise. The only problem I have is that everyone playing Vita online seem like Pro's...especially in UMvC3...lol.
I'll add you now, this badboy has insane multitasking capabilities. I hope Sony gets Kingdom Rush and Riptide on the Vita. Those are the only 2 games I miss. For gaming on the go, obviously the Vita owns. Sony is spending 50 million on the advertising campaign. I can't wait to get my TF700t w/dock to compliment the gap between my Vita and M18x.

Really?! Are you f*cking serious? Games look and play better on a dedicated game console than they do on a multipurpose tablet?
Thanks for the revelation!
BTW my Xbox 360 plays games so much better than the Prime, and the controller is so much easier to use than most clunky on-screen controls. You know, just FYI.
There are some people here with too much money and time
I love my Prime and Vita

Ditto. If not, could someone describe what the control schemes are like? If it doesn't have gamepad support I'm hoping I could emulate it with a touch profile in the Sixaxis app.

no gameoad support I believe. plus its not needed. the touch controls are great. anywhere you touch on left side of screen an on-screen analog stick will show. transparent. you use that to move. right side of screen you can use your finger to pan around the scene. or tap that side of screen to arm your weapon. then tap again to fire. its very simple and works great. I love that game. have it on my Ipad and now on my prime. still haven't bear it yet. game can get very hard and sure to scare you. best played with headphones on for the full fear and scare effects. plenty of times my woman heard me violating..lol it'll really make you jump..
I can't wait till Dark Meadows optimized for Tegra3 finally releases. they said Q2 in tegrazone.

That is the EXACT type of control scheme that works better on a gamepad. It works "well enough" on a touchscreen, but is by no means at all the better way of controlling. However, you did basically affirm that I will be able to use a touch profile with the game, so that makes me very excited!
Hi, a noob question here. Can i buy the game on my mobile's play store then download it free on my the tablet that I buy afterwards? Is it that i buy a game under an id then I can dl the game on any platform so long as I'm using the same id? Thanks for helping!

You can buy a game that is compatible with any device you currently own. Once you have bought it it can be downloaded to any other devices you own, or may own in the future.
Thanks dude!
I picked up Dead Space last night and played it some and it looks like it going to be Great game. Quick question is there a way to stop at a point in the game and Save it there to resume later? Or does the game have certain points in game play that it Saves itself?
Thanks

As you progress there are points where it'll save automatically. Another place where it saves is when you reach the limitless booth area to upgrade you Welsh n armour with nodes. Also the store to purchase new things at. You will see them if you haven't gotten that far yet.
Bought it since it was on sale, and while the controls are awesome, I really wish it was a port of Dead Space and not just a typical mobile game out of the franchise. I'm sure since Dead Space is a 7.5GB'ish download off Steam that it's sure as heck not gonna be as small a download as Dead Space Mobile, but hey, $10 more than the games usual price and I'd certainly have bought a reduced-graphics-quality port, and already own a copy of the PC version.
I also think the controls would be rather easier to use on my phone than my tablet :'(.

Anyone unable to download the additional files? It gets to between 10 and 20% and just crashes to homescreen.

Server probably slammed due to sale. I would just try again later at night or tomorrow.
it crashes to homescreen for me, too, when it tries to DL files. Gee, I wish EA could afford better servers /s
oh man, these $0.49 and $0.10 deals are killer for me. I buy way too many apps that I never play/use
Dead Space doesn't start on my prime, it crashes just after the EA logo during the loading screen. Anyone else got that issue?

Just received mine yesterday... great feel, responsive. Worked right out of the box unlike my nyko playpad pro, which was doa. only thing missing is mouse/controller switch. This controller is great

Can use two controllers for gaming?
Can you connect more than one controller and use simultaneously for gaming?
[
I know for beach buggy, snesx, and riptide gp you can run two player mode if you have two controllers
How is this controller compared the the nexus controller?
I bough gamepad from asus for 30 bucks from walmart.. Is this controller worth it? Please let me know so i will return and buy this one instead.. What about battery life?
Made offer for $10 on eBay and got one with free shipping. So far works great.
I just bought two, glad to see that it works right out of the box
thanks everyone.. got this on ebay for $10.. Works like charm
Do these still work with Marshmallow? I've seen several posts about 3rd party controllers not working on Android M.
Thanks. Have two Nexus Players just delivered to the house. Ordered two of these controllers for $20 shipped for use on the big TV.
I was wondering if you can play all different games using this controller or are you limited to the green throttle games? I saw a video somewhere saying that its limited compatibility with games. Any help will be much appreciated, if this controller works well I would love to scoop this thing up.
Can anyone comment on the input lag of these controllers? I purchased a few of the Gamestop Red Samurai controllers and they FEEL great, but they have a noticeable input lag that makes games that require precise timings (like any platformer on an emulator) nearly unplayable. I still use them to play RPG's etc, but I'm looking for something a little more reliable.
modern combat 5
Cant seem to get MC5 to work with Green Throttle remote. Am I missing something?
Thank you,
I just received my controller . everything seems to work except triggers. Any suggestions?
Edit: modified the .kl file and it works great in pretty much all games now!
That d pad looks terrible. Comments?

This thing works OK. Not very precise but good enough for my purpose.
As others asked - did anyone connect two and they get recognized as a pair for multi-player?
Thanks.
