Official, international ROM, latest version and unbranded - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I purchaed a Galaxy S3 on launch day in Australia and got an outright, full unlocked one.
Unfortunately it was still BRANDED though as the seller omitted that information
Does anyone know which is the best ROM I can flash to have a complete stock and uptodate version of the S3 OS?
Also, is it possible for the phone to still check OTA for updates with one of these ROMS or not?
The Optus ROM I have keeps trying to update a 22mb update and it's annoying because it actually refuses to flash
I keep getting a 22mb system update coming down over wifi which doesn't install.

Anyone know what to load on?

[Q] Help.. Verification failed with OTA update

Hi,
I finally managed to put a htc hero recovery rom on my HTC Hero (Orange/Mobistar branded). I did this because the latest Orange/Mobistar rom doesn't support the OTA updates.. I frankly don't know why my device is Orange/Mobistar branded, since there is nothing Orange/Mobistar about it, except for the packing box. And the vendor ensured me it was an official unlocked release. Only, the HTC website doesn't share the same idea when I put in my serial number.
I succeeded to upgrade my hero with the generic rom needed for the OTA updates and I finally got the OTA message to update my phone. But when I choose install and the device restarts, I receive the following error:
Code:
RA-hero-1.7.0.1
verifying update package
no signature (216 files)
verification failed
I searched google and this forum, but the only solution I found was to install the orange branded rom, which doesn't support OTA updates, nor android 2.
Anyone knows a solution?
Thanks!

Update issue

So my fiance and I both have a tb, we both checked for updates. However, his updated and mines said error, and it failed to update. Why?! I'm so tired of the reboot issue.

Seems you are completely stock, try rebooting and doing it again. If still not working you could download the OTA RUU and flash that. I believe the 3rd one from the bottom is the OTA you are looking for, someone correct me if I am wrong.

same thing but worse
I have my thunderbolt rooted but I don't have any rom's loaded. The update downloaded, but is now stuck in a off/on endless loop
anyway to stop it from trying to update? that way I could at least get my stuff backed up in titanium and wipe/load a rom?
It reboots to clockwork then says...
Finding update package....
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I reboot system then it just starts all over again

There are countless posts/threads around here warning not to try to update a rooted phone with stock/OTA files.
Get a SD card reader/adapter, pull your microSD card out of the phone, and delete the PG05IMG.zip from it using your PC.

[Q] Galaxy S4 firmware update aborted status 7

Hey Guys, apparently Samsung just pushed out a firmware update to all S4 KitKats and upon my attempt to install it, I receive the following error:

My phone info: (Sprint - rooted-Stock ROM)
Software: L720VPUFNAE
Hardware: L720.08
Model: SPH-L720
KitKat 4.2.2
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-481102
I did see a few post regarding status 7 but all for custom ROM install only.
Wanted to know if anyone heard of any fixes for this specific error.
I appreciate everyone's time.
Seems like you probably froze or deleted an app like Sprint Zone, I'm assuming. Either replace the apps moved/removed or skip the OTA which sucks anyway and manually install the firmware via Odin. This is the preferred method as it is cleaner and you won't need to worry about fixing errors in the system like missing apps. Here is the latest version:

Good call on the Sprint Zone. This was the first app I got rid of once i got the phone. Thanks for the quick respond. I will have to flash it and re-root it; no biggie.
I did notice that tar file is for these versions and I have L720VPUFNAE
L720VPUFNG2; L720SPTFNG2; L720VPUFNG2
Would be ok to flash it to this NG2 instead of AE?

[Q] System Update Failure Release Date 2-9-2015 MT2-L03

I have a Consumer Wireless Ascend Mate 2 4g phone running Android 4.3. The build is currently MT2-L03V100R001C421B132, and there is a system update available to MT2-L03V100R001C421B147. The download of the update completes successfully, but when it reboots to install the update I get the following messages:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Formatting /cache...
Installation aborted.
I have selected the option to wipe my cache partition and attempted the update again, but I get the same results.
Can someone help me troubleshoot this, please?
Thank you.
Problem Solved.
Silly me. It appears all I needed to do was enable Developer Mode and make sure the Dev Mode was set to active. I only did the first part and not the second.

If you have twrp installed can you make a backup after the update for us? Don't need the data backup just system, boot, etc. That would help a lot of people with the CC version. An updated factory image is rare for these.
I dont see either. Wierd

Need help with a soft bricked Nexus 9

I am helping a friend revive his tablet, and I thought I had this figured out, but cannot get it to work. I am trying to use ADB to sideload an OTA package to the tablet. When I run the sideload command, on the PC the progress just immediately stops at 0%. On the tablet, I see the following...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
verifying update package...
E: footer is wrong
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
The devices bootloader is locked, and since you cannot get to the operating system, there is no way to set the OEM unlock. I read somewhere that using the "Apply update from ADB" on the tablets recovery utility did not require the bootloader to be unlocked, but maybe that is not correct. I am pretty sure I have downloaded the correct OTA package for the tablet.
More info:
On the top of the tablets screen in the recovery menu it shows:
google/volantis/flounder
6.0.1/MOB30G/2723637
Apparently this happened while he was running an OTA update. Any help would be appreciated!!
Try following this step by step
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/ota
If it doesn't work try as many cords and computers as possible.
I would also try downloading the ota again. It could be a corrupt download.
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Thanks everybody. I ended up downloading the Nougat OTA since that was what he was trying to update it to when it crashed. worked like a charm!!
