Is it necessary to buy a case for SGS3? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it really necessary to buy a case for our phone?
It is really beautiful the way it is (Without case), but I don't want it to scratch or something like that. The Rearth Ringke Slim looks nice.
Thanks in advance.

Accident do happens.
There are many cases for you to choose. Some cases make your phone looks great too.

Do you want to look after your phone?
Also this is really better suited to the accessories thread

I have the white Rearth Ringke case and it looks awesome, almost like there is no case on it. Problem is it doesn't offer much protection so I now have an otterbox defender.

I just use a back "screen" protector.
If your the type of person that looks after their phone then no phone needs a case.

I wouldn't go without a case for the S3....... unlike the S2 which had the back plate cover and come around the corners of the glass, the S3 glass is technically unprotected. Drop it on a corner and you are more likely to crack the glass panel.

The exterior of the phone is quite handsome, at least the pebble blue is. But do you really want to drop 600 for another or less for a repair that might not really repair....

Case will not fully protect your phone but should at least minimize the damage in case of accident.
I would really recommend to get it.

you don't need to use the case to protect your phone, because the phone was tested again and agian before we bought it, such as water proof, anti-scrach test.
but if you really want to buy a case for your phone, i jus advice you to buy the case on some normal and very famous website, just in order to not be cheated, here is a good cell phone parts shop.
Finally, iu want to say that if your phone need case just depond on your mind.
Do hope my advices can help you.

Thank you all for your responses.
Unfortunately, in Colombia we don't have a lot of cases to chose from (yet?).
I can choose between an Otterbox Defender (Black case) and a Rearth Ringke Slim (White case). My phone is white.
What do you recommend?
Again, thanks in advance.

A question about comfort

I realize that the answer to the following question depends on what the user prefers, but out of curiosity; what are your opinions about using a case with this phone and not using a case?
I initially got the gel case because I thought the lightness would cause the phone to fall out of my hand. Now I don't think its such an issue. I am still uncomfortable with the lack of texture on the battery door, and the gel case cures that but I hate the way the case sits on the screen. That stupid lip is constantly in my way.
I don't know what my point is, I guess im looking for an alternative to the gel case. Something that is not so profound against the screen.

case mate barely there case, not quite as much protection as a full case but its enough and still lets the phone easily slip into my pocket

I still tinker with my buddies Vibrant some and he doesn't use a case and I can't stand it. Mine always had the gel case from T-Mobile on it.
Ill look into the casemate. What I really want is a battery door that has some texture to it. The epic is a perfect example, the back is rubberized and just feels nice.

I would NEVER use a case or screen protector... WHY would I want to put the gorgeous phone into an ugly useless shell?!?
I have a real leather battery covered door for extra grip and that is perfect!
I keep the phone inside an Oakley goggles pouch, for cleaning and protection... but not all the time.
It's an everyday object meant to be used, If it does not hold up to the rigours of day to day use it is crap...
Where did you get your leather battery door. That is the direction I want to move toward. The gel case I have annoys me. I've seen some stuff on ebay for the I9000 but I don't feel comfortable buying from some faceless person on the other side of the globe.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
if you really want just a rubberized battery door swing by your local hardware store and pick up some rubberizing spray, it wont look the greatest, but you can get it in a variety of colors and is relatively easy to remove, i use it to rubberize some of my tools as the grips wear out.

[Q] Cases with a kickstand

Does anyone know a good case with a kick stand? The most important features are just the kickstand and thinness. I know Casemate makes a great one, but it's way too thick.
This one seems okay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TPU-FoldOut...ccessories&hash=item2eb8015e60#ht_2188wt_1163
But I'd have to make a slight modification for the microphone, and most importantly, I don't know if it will fit. I'm quite weary of any of these cases that can fit both the international and ATT versions.
I bought my GS2 on launch day and ATT had 4 different cases in the store. Case Mate was the only one offered with a kick stand but it felt cheap so I opted not to get it. There was a nice leather case but none of them fit the phone, lol. Guess those will be sent back.

Thanks for the link and the info...I too got my SGSII on launch day and was disappointed at the lack of accessories and items available for the AT&T branded SGSII. I even have communicated with Body Glove about one of their cases (As I have been a fan of that one and used it on my Cappy and Infuse both) but they said they will not be producing a Body Glove case for our phone So I am going to try the above listed one and I will let you know. Maybe even post some screens and update the thread.

I bought this today instead of the leather case...
Its definitely not as bulky as I thought it would be (previous experience with the thrill and infuse pop cases) and the kickstand works great!
It also fits real nicely. The leather case seemed a little too tight and that it would require some effort to put in properly

I've had this for about 3 days now. I think its called Minisuit
Pros: Thin, light, tight fit, good kickstand, cheap, quick delivery
Cons: no hole for secondary mic, generic micro usb rechargers have trouble given cutout (stock cable works fine)
Happy enough with it for now.

I was considering that one, but hard cases are more difficult to cut the mic opening.
ny gs2 doesn't say Samsung or att on front.... only says galaxy S on back cover... is that supposed to be like that
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Ok, I got the case.
Doesn't fit 100%.
The bottom in particular, but it's barely noticeable. The top mic needs to be cut out some more, which shouldn't be too difficult since it's not plastic.
Case actually looks a lot better than I expected. The kickstand is very flimsy, which I expected. Once you put the stand up, don't put any pressure on it. It's very likely to just snap off. The power button becomes pretty stiff, too.
They also ran out of minisuit keychain screen cleaners. They said if I want one, email them about how I feel my order is "incomplete without one," and they'll send one when they have more stock.
Kind of a weird way to make us word it.
Either way, I'd recommend this if you need a very sleek and thin case that doubles as a flimsy kickstand.

Case suggestions?

Hey guys can you help me find a case. Here are my needs:
-Low price, nothing ridiculously expensive I'd say under 30 would prefer under 10 but quality cost money sometimes of course
-i don't want a rubber one that doesn't slide in the pocket very well

- good protection for screen and non intrusive on charging ports or buttons and headphone port as I use a large size cable for my cars stereo
Thanks alot guys btw I never drop my phone my sensation never had a case n looks mint so I don't need something that will help my phone take a fall just to protect from scratches I wanna keep my amaze mint

Thanks for your response but let me rephrase, I want your opinions on what's a good case for my needs if someone owns one that they personally feel meets those or similar needs thats what I want. Thanks for the links I checked threads on different cases but i found that most are bulky for the more hard shell ones that have a tight fit, the thinner ones seem to not fit very flush n be a little loose. I only found one that seems to fit but it interferes with the volume buttons and is not very snug and its the diztronic case. Also I don't like the invisishields from zagg they feel awkward and the corners usually come up and get dirty from my experience with them.

Well I have the TPU case on my phone right now and it fits like a glove and I even dropped it once and it was still in mint condition all the holes line up perfectly as far as a screen protector I just applied the xtreme guard screen protector a few minutes ago but so far can't even tell its on there. Very Very happy with it, happier than many other cases I paid much much for.
Since its so tough its hard to get open and thats why many cases now come with crowbar, My moms did, but It was 15 dollars...so I use hers...I used to use a nail clipper end to just pry open the case (there's a space to stick the crowbar into, I tried using my nails but couldn't get it open and messed up my nails and hurt my finger lol, you need something thats not sharp but shaped like a flathead screw driver to pry it open, this is the case with most hard cases today...I would highly recommend this case.

Samsung OEM flip case.... Thoughts?

So I'm looking at the flip case made by Samsung and noticed the back cover is substantially thicker than the one that comes on the phone. It also looks like you could snip off the flap that covers the screen. I know, kinda defeats the purpose but at very minimum, you'll have better protection on the back....
Anyone actually like this case as is? I find it cumbersome for most situations and only see its value for covering the face while in a pocket. I'm thinking to chop the front off and use it just for the back.
Bring on the OtterBox!
As a side Note, the flip case back is also textured and does provide a grippier feel.

Returning mine
I bought mine at the AT&T store. The back of the case is the best part, it is superior to the provided battery backing supplied with the phone.
I feel like the flip cover can get in the way of certain actions, particularly talking photos. It makes holding the phone feel a little unnatural whether you leave the flip cover open to the side or folded against the back. For those two reasons I've gone back to the standard battery back and will be exchanging it for another case or a refund.

I've noticed the same while using mine, especially while taking pictures. I originally purchased one from at&t but have since returned it due to Best Buy giving me one for purchasing the device from them ( saved me $50). This is definitely a temporary case until new cases become available.

Yep... this.
I like the way the brown one looks ont he white but the front is pretty flimsy and they didn't put too much thought into the overall design. The fact that it replaces the back was a nice thought and helped keep the thickness down opposed to a lot of the journal/folio cases you see on Amazon though.
I'll still probably end up replacing it with one of the aluminum bumpers that looks really nice and offer some more protection.

The edge of the flipcover came apart on me today. it is peeling open. the edges are just heat sealed material around a thin plastic slab. have been using since launch day. i have Best Buy's GSBTP so if i drop it and it breaks, i'll just get another Note - so i am not too worried about the protection factor from drops. i like the idea of the flip cover, however it does get in the way of the camera and can make using the camera awkward.
i think the lines / grooves that show in a zagg shield would bug me...
hopefully i will find something i like...

Ok, I worded that really weird. When I work out, it's unavoidable to sweat, so using my Infuse, I would always have to wipe it down after I talked on it. Yeah, it sucked. But I would rather wipe it off of this, than my screen.
Is this the same one???
I got it for $9 and it protects the corners of the Note. Little flimsy but I thought it was worth the cost and am still using it after 4 days.

Flip cover + Speck CandyShell case

Hi, I own a Skyrocket but my wife has a Galaxy Note. She was looking for a case that would protect the screen from being scratched in her purse and also something that would protect against bumps or falls.
At the store, we realized that there was not such a case, but we found that combining these two works pretty good.
So, I jut thought I would drop by and show you guys how the two fit/look.
Regards!

That's actually a good combo. My gf has that same speck case, but I protected her screen with the moshi protector.

Hi, I own a Skyrocket but my wife has a Galaxy Note. She was looking for a case that would protect the screen from being scratched in her purse and also something that would protect against bumps or falls.

can you show a picture of what it looks like when you try to open the front. i would think that it cannot go back very far and stick out

Simply brilliant for someone who needs protection all around. I wouldnt be suprised if case makers made something similar in the future...if the demand is high.

There is a new case on amazon I havent seen before. It looks like a tough flip case for our Notes. Like a Otterbox meets folio cover. Anyways I got one and will demo it once it comes in.

$70 plus shipping to protect my Note. Seems a bit steep. There are a lot of other, less expensive options out there. But thanks for sharing "your wifes Note".
