anyone here upgraded to HTC EVO 4G LTE ? - Motorola Photon 4G

hi, I'm looking to upgrade my photon to HTC EVO 4G LTE
does anyone here own both of the phone ?
and can you give me some inputs ?
what I'm really want to know is :
-voice quality / earpiece sound quality (the photon is the very good if its not the best ear piece on a phone that i have ever owned before)
-battery life ( i use seidio extended battery on my photon, so i want o know what to expect from the non removable battery of HTC)
-radio reception strenght ? (again the Photon is one of the best in this department as well)
i want to upgrade because :
-im tired of waiting for the ICS on the photon
-and though the seideio battery is awesome , but the bulk is quite noticeable
-and the photon screen is terrible IMHO (can't hurt to change to 720p 4.7" screen NON PENTILE)
actually i also considered the Samsung galaxy SIII but i've never been a fan of samsung, and to me their build quality is not so good, and the material used is feel kind of cheap
and also i hate the touch wizzz i've always been a fan of SENSE but because the EVO 3D have bad radio reception, then i bought the Photon, which is an awesome phone.
anyway , can please somebody gimme some inputs ?
thank you so much.

Another option that might be worth considering is the rumored LG phone, it suppose to have a quad core krait with 2gb ram also with new Adreno 320 gpu and is coming to sprint. Though it also depends on how you feel about LG.
But it eats benchmarks for breakfast, it effectively destroys even tablets.

thx, but I'm leaning towards HTC because i love sense, and with other devices, i can't replicate the UI of sense which IMHO is the best UI for android device.

I have not paid much attention to sense as I generally prefer stock ICS. But they still have not ported sense to other devices yet?

anyonne else?

I upgraded from a photon and I was on the HTC EVO 4G LTE. Switched to the galaxy S 3. Photon is by far has the best reception. Battery was Ok on the Evo. U can get 2 - 2 1/2 hours screen on time with normal use which is pretty much the average. Reception sucked and the gps was horrible. Sense was good but to be honest, kinda gets old like any launcher
The s3 is by far the better of the 2 in my opinion. Screen is not as crisp but I can get 4 hours + screen on time. Multi tasking works great and gps locks in less than 2 seconds and doesn't lose lock. Yes I'm referring to a Samsung phone with good gps lol. Best gps I've ever used on a phone.
Very worthy upgrade to the photon.
And touchwiz is polished unlike before. I actually like it better than sense. But it's all personal preference.

[Q] HD2 or MT4G?

So as many of you know I have recently lost my beloved HD2. Now I am shopping for new device and narrowed it down to few devices, but believe it or not on top of the list its still HD2. So specify which you would pick and why as it would be very helpful to me.
Only reason I'd get the HD2 over the others is its hackability. If you just want an Android device and don't want to multiboot I'd personally get the G2 because I like hardware keyboards but the MT4g is better if you don't care about that.
LOL the customizability is the only reason I was even considering this device as I haven't seen anything like it. This device has access to more platform ATM then any other device. So I was super pissed when I lost it. I mean I paid $750 for the Leo1024 unlocked version and got it on TMobile months before it was released to the general public. But at this point I am not welling to pay $300 for this phone when its 1 year old, thats just crazy. I went for the G2 also but later moved to MT4G as its going for $300 also and its better device.

Well, after comparing many phones to MT4G in many areas like spec, benchmark, IRL usability (browser, map, cam, ect). This is the overall result I got in my opinion so I am not trying to be biased here as I myself voted for HD2. But the only device that did beat MT4G in my opinion was Desire HD which is what I wanted only if they supported 3G in USA, hell IDK why HTC make stupid decisions. I know ill be super pissed of if they realse DHD in USA with US model just like they did with HD2.
Looks like I have made my decision as I already placed order for MT4G, in the end I was not welling to pay $300 for old device top of that idiots are selling it claiming "like new" lol we all know its used, so let them have their cake and eat it also. I now hope that MT4G community is also rich as ours and hope it grows in development also or ill be super pissed as HD2 hackablity is unbeaten.

HTC Aria Successor

Hello,
since the trend in smartphone development aims at huge screens and extreme processor speeds I was wondering if anybody heard about possible Aria successors, that would be handy phones with decent specs.
I would love to see a new Aria, with a dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, a thinner bezel (like the Galaxy Nexus) but the same or just slightly bigger dimensions as the Aria.
Any rumors?
I fear that this is just wishful thinking, but one can still dream XD
Unfortunately, I've been hunting for this for about 6 months. No alpha products, previews, or reviews I could find...
Looks like you'll have to upgrade to something bulkier =(
Dang.
Well there is no rush for me to decide. I got rid of any kind of cellphone plans and buy my new phones when I can't stand the old ones anymore
With CM7 and some tweaking I can still love my Aria for a while.
The Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus would be ok if only it had more RAM and Android 4.0. Too bad...
Sony has some small phones that looks decent. But they still have the physical buttons
Like this
This is my new hobby, creating HTC Aria 2 fakes. If only I could print them out with a 3D printer...
Would you maybe like one with a front cam and two LEDs integrated into the classic speaker? Or a green one with trackball?
I loved my Aria. The weight was ideal but I had to have a bigger screen. It seems that the general trend nowadays it to get bigger and better. My example to this would be the Samsung Galaxy Note. The only carrier I know of that still has phones (new phones I might add) is SouthernLinc Wireless. Not to come off as advertisement but we just got a Motorola i867. 3.1" screen. Runs Eclair.
I really do wish that they would have an Aria 2. I agree with you. If they removed most of the bezel it would be a great phone. I still have mine even though I have since had a Captivate and now the Galaxy S II.
I am curious if some nice mid-range phones pop up at MWC next week.
Doubt there will be any successor to the Aria.

That may be true, but at least there's something close: http://pockethacks.com/the-htc-golf-a-fast-android-on-a-budget/.
The SE xperia ray looks decent, ableit maybe too small.
What about the upcoming Xperia Sola? It's about the same size with a dual-core processor.
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_sola-4408.php
There's very little info on the Sola currently, but so far it's looking like my next phone.
Sony needs to trim off all that bezel.
Galaxy mini 2? Specs are still low but better than the aria for the moment

The HTC One V still hasn't picked a carrier but it will have a 3.7" screen and single 1ghz processor.
Personally interested in the 4.3" dual core One S.
this htc one v is not bad at all! looks good enough to replace this little aria
The Sony Xperia Mini (pro) devices both have diminutive 3-inch screens and pack a single-core 1GHz processor. They are interesting enough and quite inexpensive on Amazon.

I keep wondering...why can't there be a high-end phone with smaller dimensions. High-end does not necessarily mean it has to have a huge screen. Or at least mid-end haha. 1GHz is not too much to ask, and why not 1gb ram.

Confirmed- low ram on htc evo 4g lte

hello everyone, i am an independent amateur reviewer, and i am confirming low ram on the htc evo 4g lte, and this is confirmed due to sense 4.0 being over saturated and not optimized properly for a device with only 1 gig of ram. whoever has or is buying this device, be prepared to have stutters and the dreaded LAG....only option to help this is a custom launcher, which in theory, renders the sense 4.0 utterly useless. It's time HTC fixes this problem, start making phone calls peeps
Luthien1, the independent reviewer
Mr amatuer, could you please explain why sense 4.0 runs well on my phone and it also runs well on my EVO 3d with even less Ram, but it sucks on yours?

That's incorrect. Sense is more than just the Rosie launcher.
ram of evo 3d and evo lte are both 1 gb... there is a ram issue, trust me. with more ram is more smoothness and seemless operations, due to apps needing ram..

You sir, are dumb.
Btw what made you get the LTE after you said you wasn't? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25728556&postcount=63
LoL well, IDK why it runs perfectly fine on MY device but not on yours. IDK why ANYONE has any issues with much because I haven't had a SINGLE issue with mine at all LoL. Don't understand how installing an aftermarket launcher will render Sense useless either as posted above. Have had NO lag, haven't had any issues with launcher, lag, RAM issues or anything. Can sit safely at around 250MB free at most time and never below 200MB of free RAM. At least he admitted to being an ameteur reviewer. Couldbt agree more with Post 2.

this isnt rocket science people, sense 4.0 i think required 2 gb of ram, if you think one is good enough, good, but i think they made a mistake...

[Q] Benchmark Scores

Hello everyone, I am trying to decide between getting an HTC EVO 4G LTE or the Samsung Galaxy S3.
I would appreciate any benchmarks mention to help me with my decision, it could also help if you mention why the EVO 4G LTE is a better option.
I would consider all benchmarks.
Dude just get out. Benchmarks mean nothing & the specs on the phones are damn near equal. No need to flaunt benchmarks at all
1st & in before the lock!
The LTEVO says hello!
I can understand your frustration but looking at his join date and post count obviously he hasn't been around here too long and we shouldn't scare him away. Anyways with the us version they benchmark pretty similar although the evo seems to have a slight edge according to some tests I've seen..phone arena got a 5500 quad..which I've never gotten close to..they perform great the evo is just built a lot better and I'm not a fan of touchwiz..but that's subjective
Yeah, they are both the exact same specs....and I agree, don't choose the phone based on which performs a tad better in benchmarks.
If you must know though:
The HTC One X scores higher than both the 4G LTE and SIII. The 4G LTE scores higher all around by a tad bit in both graphical and CPU benchmarks. Although they are very close, making the difference negligible in real life applications.
The memory on the HTC EVO 4G LTE is also a good amount faster than the SIIIs, which is said to reduce the response lag in some real life applications.
TL;DR: The EVO 4G LTE scores higher than the SIII in benchmarks...

Benchmarks r higher on s3 easily btw u shouldnt decide buying a phone on basis of benchmarks ,btw my experience with s3 was slightly better i would say s3
These r my benchmarks but by default too s3 get higher benchmarks cuz it has better gpu ,and an top notch cpu .
I would say go to a store and run both of them and decide

Tony grab the soap before the lock down. Jk now seriously don't buy the one that anyone tells you to buy. Go to the store play with both of them and pick the one you like. I got the Evo because first I hate touchwiz second the evo looks more professional and third the camera and beats audio are amazing. By the way beats by dre earbud are not that great for their price. I bought the Klipsch S4A and they are amazing. Good luck budy.

I agree with a few of these guys, go to the store and test both. Don't do or buy something based on others. I chose the evo because I've never had a Samsung phone I liked. I played around with the gsIII just to make sure I didn't want to trade my evo in for it, didn't like it too much but it is a nice phone.

Benchmarks dont mean a thing. If you are going to make your purchase based on benchmarks save yourself the headaches and just buy an iPhone.
( I kid, I kid)
But seriously, benchmarks dont matter

Htc one haters

I see alot of people commenting that the htc one is bad and that the S4 is better well wtf you doing in the One section GTFO to S4's section...nobody here wants to know nothing about that plastic sh*tty ass phone!!!
Here's my two cents, I owned the s4 for a week and thought the ui was so weird, cool phone in some areas but I guess it was too much for me I like the one's ui better it's not so overwhelming

Your giving off that same bias one-sided opinion. Both devices have their own pros and cons and satisfy different needs of users. The S4 is for those who want higher performance, removeable batteries, SUPER AMOLED Display, extra storage space as apps these days seem to be taking up more and more space, featured camera, etc, while in my perspective the One is for those who want a high performance device, with a screen that has great visibility in daylight, good sounding speakers, with a really slick design. Obviously the OS's come into play too, each one offers their own feel and look.
I'm very happy with my S4. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I really value the ability to have my 64GB SD card so i can install more than just a few of my favourite apps, i have 3 batteries so as soon as one dies i can pop in one of the backups and i'm back to a full charge instantly and ready to go. I like the development of this device, and i like to have the strongest hardware with absolutely ZERO lag.
Its great that you like your One, to each person their own, but don't be immature about it and let peoples comments get to you. I gave my reasons for my choice, and you know why you purchased your device over the S4, so it doesn't really matter what anyone else has to say about it.

Please explain this "higher performance". The S4 doesn't offer any performance improvements, as a matter of fact it has a severe hindrance compared to the One due to all of the features Samsung packed in the phone. Lag lag lag.. you can read about it in just about every tech review out there
The One performs better. Period.

On Stock I would agree with that completely, but as i mentioned theres great development for the S4, and the device can OC higher. I personally choose AOKP as my preferred ROM and theres by no means any way a One could run smoother than my S4 on my current ROM. I compare it to my friends Nexus 4 which is considered to be the smoothest device out there and is said to be 100% lag free, but my S4 is just as smooth if not smoother and opens and closes apps faster. I don't care about sacraficing Sammy's features, and i use Nandroids to switch to TW when the rare occasion comes that i want to use touchwiz. Without all the Sammy junk this device is a pure tank. I havent had the slightest microstutter in the few weeks ive ran this ROM, and that's what is most important to me. I'm not saying the One is slow, but the only way this device could get any faster would be a faster processor to open and close apps just those milliseconds faster which are already practically instantaneous.
Yes but you're insinuating that somehow the S4 performs "better". I don't see where you can make that statement, when you're comparing a non-stock ROM to stock. Have you compared the HTC One on AOSP to the S4?
I doubt there would be a "higher performance" with the S4. Bottom line is there is zero advantage in performance when comparing the same set up on both.
This is a flame bait thread. I'm putting forward a motion to have this closed.
