Open / Exit Animations...Wake w/ Volume - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

Anyone else notice that the Open / Exit animations (zooming in when opening an app and zooming out when closing) don't work with any of the market launchers on this phone. Tried just about every launcher option out there, and it strikes me as odd. It's not that big deal, but I enjoy the effect. Anyone know a launcher where this works?
Also, does anyone know a way to wake the phone with the volume key? When I had my incredible 2 there were some lockscreen apps that did it, or stand-alone apps that would enable it as well, but I can't seem to find a way to do it on this phone. Any info would be great.
Thanks.

as long as u r rooted, i can make the wake on vol for ANY ROM.

Thanks man but I didn't get a chance to root before they locked the dev tool for this phone and as far as I can tell there's no other root method yet

damn sorry bro :/
yea hopefully they open it back up soon.
wish I knew a way for un-rooted, it may be possible, but I'm not sure :/

Any chance anyone knows a way to wifi-tether without root and without Verizon charging me more money to use the data that I've already paid for once?

Try FoxFi with the Proxy Add-on. It works well, but only with HTTP/HTTPS protocol. If you need something other than HTTP/HTTPS or can not use a proxy, you'll have to go with a wired USB tether.

hate that new shared data plan. It would end up costing me more money just to share data. I'll take a look at FoxFi thanks

By the way I wanted to say thanks for telling me about foxfi
I had tried it before even asking but it didn't work cause I didn't know about the adon but all works great now so thanks my man

I'm gonna revive this old thread I made a while ago and ask for help again lol
I ask a lot of simple questions on here, and I was trying to figure this out myself for once, but I'm driving myself crazy doing so
I can't seem to get the phone to wake up with the volume keys :/
I'm running stock here, and now that I have root, I know there must be some way to do this...

Thanks Andy this is great! I know on the Incredible 2 you had done something like this but the zip also removed the crosshairs from the status bar. Do you have any plans to make something like that for this device? If so, could it also remove that annoying "no wifi" icon that's on the top left of the status bar?

man how the **** does this stuff come so easy to you...I looked into it for so long
reading about android.policy.jar and a ton of other stuff and I could not figure it out
thank you man

Damn this didn't work for my phone
I think it has something to do with a guide I was following before I asked :/
I'm so stupid and didn't make a backup and I made a few changes
if anyone wants to help maybe you could upload a few files for me?
In system\usr\keylayout
if anyone would maybe upload:
Generic.kl
dummy_keypad.kl
h2w_headset.kl
keypad_8960.kl
the guide had me making a couple edits to those and it didn't work but im sure it's interfering with this

It didn't end up working for me either so it's probably not the changes you made
I can't post links so I sent you a pm.

thanks man, it's a shame it didn't work, but at least I'll be back to normal now

sorry guys, I think I forgot to edit one of the keylayouts.
new link will be up soon, once I test first

no your best bet it to download the ROM.zip I pulled from the OTA and install the RUU through bootloader using the file I pulled.
here is the thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1947600
Pulled from my OP
INSTRUCTIONS
1) Download this - MD5 = 55023CC10B59FDEC0AAA6695C4CF83FB
2) rename to PJ53IMG.zip (make sure it's not named PJ53IMG.zip.zip...)
3) put the PJ53IMG.zip on the root of your SD-Card. (not in any folders)
4) reboot to bootloader
5) let the phone do its magic
6) enjoy Sense 4.1
7) smile.
P.S. - you need to re-lock your bootloader to to do, the command in fastboot is
Fastboot oem lock
then once you install the RUU through bootloader, make sure you have your Unlock_code.bin saved from the bootloader unlock (if not don't worry you can always get it back from the HTC-Dev unlock site
Code to re-lock once installed
reboot to bootloader get into fastboot mode
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin

Here's an updated .zip
flash in recovery - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26383143/HTC Incredible 4G/2.17.605.2_Wake_on_vol_v2.0.zip
make sure you're on the new OTA ROM,
AND it will NOT work if you are NOT on Nit ROM based off the new OTA update.
if you are just rooted and with superuser you are on an odex ROM..
Nit's ROM is deodexed, which mean I can edit the appropriate smali files.
You will get better results from Nits ROM from stock anyway IMHO
here the ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933539
If you really don't want to run the ROM and want to stay on stock (which is no difference, it's just a pain to make MODs, and they usually have problems)
So, I suggest,
reboot to recovery,
1) make a nandroid
wipe,
2) factory reset
3) System
4) Cache
5) dalvik cache
6) install ROM, boot up the ROM,
reboot back to recovery, flash the .zip above, and profit

Ok, so I didn't want to completely reflash the rom and lose all my apps so I did something a little different
I flashed the stock recovery via fastboot which DID work
I accepted the OTA update, and it downloaded and began to install however it failed because I flashed the "Google Now Mod" that I had posted in another thread...
and I'm guessing it might fail because of the 3-button remap I flashed as well
is there any way around this? I would rather just accept the OTA and do it that way

I really f-ed up my phone...

I accidentally deleted Sense after I fully rooted my phone (I thought it was unchecked in rom toolbox, but I guess it wasn't) and now I just have a black screen with the top bar instead of icons. Could one guide me through the process of recovering sense, or flashing a new rom since I'm still new to this.
Yes, I'm a dumbass, and yes, I deserve all ball busting from everyone over this, but I really need your help.
run the ruu
Could I do it through hboot. If so, is there a guide to help me with this floating out there?
Download the ruu. Run it. Go to hboot on phone and follow the directions.
Thank you sure, I'll do just that.
If you have questions, feel free to ask. It is pretty straightforward though.
Always, always make a nandroid before doing anything. This goes for anyone that hasn't done this yet and is making mods like the op stated. It takes an extra 5 minutes and saves your phone from anything you could possibly do.
Having permanent root without a nandroid is like walking into Afghanistan without an m4 and your basic load.

this should be simple...download the launcher of your choice in apk form to your desktop, install it via adb(or android commander) and press the home button and it should come right up, from there you should be functional until someone uploads a stock ROM so you can reflash what you need.

[S-OFF Only!!!] Install OTA Update and Maintain Root Access

UPDATE: The latest update still is safe. I just installed it and I am still s-off.
UPDATE: The update to Jellybean does not write the secure flag and this method is safe to apply the OTA update with this method and still maintain root access afterwards.
First and foremost, a couple disclaimers.
FIRST, YOU MUST BE S-OFF FOR THIS TO WORK. PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY S-OFF.
SECOND, FOR THE OTA UPDATE 1.22.651.3 YOU WILL FOR SURE RETAIN S-OFF. ALTHOUGH HIGHLY UNLIKELY, HTC COULD POTENTIALLY MAKE YOU S-ON IN FUTURE OTA UPDATES. SEE HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION.
To obtain s-off please see this thread: http://unlimited.io/jewel.htm
Once you are s-off you can install the OTA update no problem and still retain root. I understand that there are rooted ROMs that come out within a day or whatever, I find this method just easier and less annoying that waiting for a rooted stock ROM to come out. I don't really theme, mod, or do crazy things with my phone but still want root access. So, I decided since I was s-off, I would give this method a whirl. I am happy to report that I am s-off, with TWRP, fully rooted, and with installing the OTA update. I had a little hiccup but was able to solve that.
So, here is the process. This is kind of a hodge podge of different threads, ideas, devices, and versions of android so if I didn't give you credit, please let me know and I will put you in this thread.
Process for installing a stock recovery. I have already created some stock recovery files so see at the bottom of this post for the zip file that includes the stock recovery. If you wish to use these files, just start with step #10.
IF YOU CHOOSE TO JUST DOWNLOAD THE STOCK RECOVERY AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST, SKIP TO STEP #10.
Creating Stock Recovery File Manually
1. Install a stock recovery if you don't already have one.
2. To do so, get the RUU for the version you are running.
3. Run the RUU (don't connect to your phone at all)
4. Navigate to your temp directory on your computer (on windows 7 it is C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Local\Temp)
5. Find a folder that looks like it is in the following format "{XXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXX}" It might help to sort by date modified. The folder should have the current date
6. Inside the folder might be a couple other folders. Navigate through the folder to find a zip that says "firmware" or "rom" (mine said rom)
7. Extract the content to a folder in the same directory called rom
8. Navigate into the rom folder and find two files android-info.txt and recovery_signed.img. Copy those to a directory of your choice.
9. Send those files to a zip folder and name the file "PJ75IMG.zip" without the quotes. Make sure zip is only listed once. If you have file extensions hidden in windows yours will only say "PJ75IMG".
Installing the stock recovery, OTA, and regaining root
10. Place the stock recovery file on the root of your sd card
11. On your phone, head into settings and power and make sure the fastboot option is unchecked
12. Power down phone
13. Once phone is completely shut down, hold the volume down button and press the power on button while keeping the volume down button pressed.
14. It will boot into your hboot (verify it says s-off at the top or don't proceed) and find the file you placed on your sd card and ask you if you want to update. click volume up for yes. Reboot once finished. After your phone boots up, navigate to the root of your sdcard and delete PJ75IMG.zip
15. Go to settings>check for updates and check to see if there is an update. Download the update. Once it verifies, click install now. It should install just fine.
16. Once you are up and running, download one of the dirty racun hboots. I used hboot 2.09 img found here. Follow the instructions on the unlimited.io website how to flash the hboot by using fastboot (flashing the zip doesn't seem to be working.
update. click volume up for yes. Reboot once finished. After your phone boots up, navigate to the root of your sdcard and delete PJ75IMG.zip
17. Make sure usb debugging is checked under settings>developer options
18. Go download a su zip file. I used this one here and place it on the root of your sd card.
19. Go grab a custom recovery flashable zip (could not find the latest twrp zip) or img (I used TWRP found here. Take the image and place it in your platform tools folder for ADB.
20. Plug in phone while powered on and type in adb devices to make sure you are connected.
21. If you see a device type in
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
22. Your device will boot into your bootloader and you will see fastboot usb (make sure usb debugging was checked if you don't see that).
23. Then type fastboot flash recovery [filename] of the recovery img you downloaded. Once flashed, toggle with the volume up buttons to bootloader and then select recovery. This should boot you into TWRP
24. Once in recovery, install the su zip you downloaded in step 18.
25. Reboot and Enjoy!!!!
You are now rooted with the most current OTA update and all the goodies (radios, PRI, etc.)
This process should hopefully hold true for any future OTA updates if you are S-OFF. The only thing you will have to find is the current RUU to create the stock recovery. If this helped, feel free to thank! Go XDA!

I don't know. So you don't have to wait at all? Or for the people that aren't accustomed to flashing ROMs or don't care to. I prefer this method for whatever reason and it seems just easier. Personal preference though. The beauty of android and their strong developer network is that it gives the users choices. I can take the OTA update as soon as it comes out and don't have to worry about waiting for anything. Just another method I guess.
TLR there are already rooted stock roms in one of the dev forums. Flash it and flash the update firmware via bootloader and you're done.

The update firmware is the part that hangs me up. I believe when it was back in the original EVO days that some people were having problems updating their PRI version and it screwed up some things with wimax. That is when I decided I would just accept the OTA to get everything they included in the update and then gain root access through this method.
Again, to each their own. Please try not to clutter up the thread with off topic items. Thanks.
Because all of the ROM flash threads state you have to do a factory reset. Even with Titanium, I don't have the time to reset everything back up the way I want it... including all the folders I've created, etc. If you could flash a ROM and maintain all your data intact, I might consider it. Perhaps there's something I'm unaware of.

The devs state that so that they don't have to spend their valuable time troubleshooting because you didn't flash right. Its always best to do a full wipe, but not always required when flashing an updated version of the same ROM.
1) Nandroid.
2)Wipe Dalvik cache & cache
3) Flash
You retain all data.
If you have issues, then you nand restore and do a full wipe before bugging the devs

Actually, TWRP has a PJ75IMG.zip on their site that can be flashed the same way as the HBOOT. And then, you can flash Superuser from TWRP.
I did everything from my SD card. And, in response to the person saying it would take the better part of the day... the whole thing took me barely 10 minutes, and I have a completely updated phone, all the firmware, radios, etc. And all my data and settings are intact. I think that for someone like me that likes everything stock, but rooted (for WiFi Tether and Adblock), this is the best way to go.

One advantage to me would be you're getting the official ROM/update, and you don't have to worry about a malicious dev slipping in some malware.

Really?
Why do you even have S-off then? That required you down download specific drivers, and run a program as an administrator on your computer. If you're concerned about a rogue dev they would've royally screwed you there.

That's fair, rooting and s-off could also inject malicious code. But so can ROM makers.
I think there's a difference between trying to be safe and being paranoid. If there is a way for someone to make money off of you/steal your identity, eventually they will try. I'm not suspicious of any of the current devs, but it's something we should maybe be more aware of. Look at all the warez Windows out there with malware built in to steal your information.

Totally agree. Its a good thing to learn in my opinion. I broke my Evo 4G, fixed it then rerooted it. Now on the 4G LTE got it rooted with custom rom. Love learning new things plus some of the good things that come with rooting and custom roms are worth it for me.

[Q] Enabling 3 / 4G Hotspot

Hi Guys,
I have a (new to me) Rezound that has the latest Verizon / HTC version of ICS (4.0.3) on it . I would like to unlock the 3G / 4G Hotspot on it.
I've done some searching and read a lot of threads on the subject. The best I have found is a thread by SirGatez about a modified wifi-tether application. The downside is that it appears that I need to root my phone in order to make this application work. That leads me to my question:
Do I need root in order to unlock the Hotspot / Teathering? I previously had a DROID Incredible that was very easy to mod the Hotspot.
I have looked into Rooting and it seems very complicated. There are so many threads on the subject that it is a little overwhelming. I would rather not root if I don't need too.
Thank you for your help,
Scott
PDA-net is the only app that can tether without root. But that is only over USB. To do wifi, you need root then download any of the tether apps in the play store.
GrayTheWolf, thank you for your quick reply. Obviously not the answer I was looking for. I will go back to studying up on rooting.
Part of my concern about rooting is that most of the rooting threads were written before the release of ICS 4.0.3. Best I can tell, it makes a difference. I really need to find instructions that are not over my head. Very simple instructions for a noob like myself.
If you happen to know of such a thread, please let me know.
Thanks again,
Scott
Have you tried fox-fi from the market

Thank you pwned3 for suggesting foxfi. I tried it and it will not work on my Rezound. That would have been just to cool.
famouscollin, thank you for your reply. Unlocking the bootloader via htcdev.com? Is that what is called S-OFF (for off standard)? I thought that was only the first step to rooting my rezound. Is that all I need to do to get the WiFi hotspot working.
I'm going to do the bootloader unlock in a few minutes. But that brings me to another question:
I bought Titanium Backup so that I could back up my Rezound before making any changes. I have been using Backup Pro, but everyone on this forum seems to use Titanium. The problem is that Titanium tells me it won't work if not rooted. That seems to defeat the whole purpose of what I wanted it for. Will Titanium work after I unlock the bootloader? Sorry about all the questions.
You have a great forum going here, and I really appreciate all of your help. Seriously!

Titanium will work if you unlock boot loader and install superuser from amon ra.

no unlocking your bootloader and adding a custom recovery is your first step. that give you the ability to do everything your wanting to.. s-off is just another security measure. you can still do everything in unlocked s-on (for the most part) its just a lil more complicated doing it.
and as for titanium it will work after you unlock and get root.. but if your wanting to back up now thats your problem. unlocking your bootloader does a factory reset so your gonna wanna back stuff up before you unlock..

also im not sure how you meant but just to clarify.. the superuser that comes with amonRa doesnt work you have to use this https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0ZJtM40GdJ0MEpGeG1ZWi0yNDA/edit and put it on your sd and flash it in recovery to gain root..

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't wifi hotspot now free through verizon if you are on their new teired plans? Or are they still charging for it?
Thank you GrayTheWolf. I'm not sure what "amon ra" is (yes, I'm a complete noob). I will try doing search for it.

The VZW tethering thing you have to pay for.
To do tethering without paying you will need to be rooted and install a tethering app from the play store.

Famous - I'm so glad you thought to mention the "factory reset" thing. That totally sucks, I have spent many hours installing apps and setting up my Rezound to be the way I like it. Do I loose everything, including my gmail setup? I have some backup I made using MyBackup Pro that I can use to restore from. That leads me to two more questions: Will the restore undo the htcdev thing? And should I remove the SD card so it does not get erased?

Hi Guys,
I have a (new to me) Rezound that has the latest Verizon / HTC version of ICS (4.0.3) on it .
Thank you for your help,
Scott

as for your gmail youll jast have to log back in and let all contacts and email sync. apps and such youll have to do another way (such as the mybackupro thing you spoke of) and you need to do amonRa after you unlock.. the google.doc link i gave you is from my google drive its the PROPER superSU.zip you flash it in recovery after you insatll recovery (amonRa Recovery) itll give you root on your stock rom. then just boot the phone and open the superSU app it installed and accept the update... then install this app from the appstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether&hl=en
once your that far open up the app, grant it permissions, change device profile to htc rezound(vigor), set-up method to Netd(master), dont enable wifi encription,go all the way down and make sure routing fix is checked.
all should be good. oh and an easy DUMB mistake even ive made...... make sure your 4g is on before you try to tether.. lol
EDIT: no once you unlock your unlocked til you lock again, restoring apps and syncing your gmail again wont back pedal that.. and as for your sd im pretty sure it doesnt wipe that but yes you could remove it to be safe.. i personall have like three extra ones for playing around, and my 32gb for all my backups, and stuff.

Unlock bootloader via HTCdev.com, flash amon ra, then flash the superuser zip.
You guys are great! Thank you so much for the help.
Do you think I need to worry about restoring with MyBackupPro after I unlock? With MyBackupPro, you can backup and restore applications, selecting each one you want to restore. You can also backup what they call "data". The categories for data are as follows:
Contacts
Call log
Bookmarks
SMS
MMS
System Settings
Android Home
Alarms
Dictionary
Calendar
Music PlayList
APN's
Apps Organizer (v1.5.15)Some of these are no-brainers, but I'm wondering if there are others that could screw with the unlock. I.E. I don't know what APN's are. And maybe restoring System Settings could be a problem.
What do you think? Is there any way the MyBackupPro restore can screw up the bootloader unlock?
No, it won't affect it.
The unlock is in your bootloader, which is waaaayyyy at the bottom of the accessibility list. APNs are Access Point Names or Nodes or something.
Great! Thank you.
Hey, I'm part way through the bootloader unlock. Do I need the SDK for Windows for what I'm trying to do?

yes if your on windows.. lol also you need to make sure you have the ability to unzip/extract zip files. i believe windows 7 has the ability built in. i helped a guy recently to soff, that was the only real issue he ran into..(i wouldnt doubt theres a work around if you cant unzip properly it would just seem to be a pain in the a**)

[Q] LG Optimus Exceed (aka LG Lucid) VS840PP won't take a root

After scrounging, searching, hunting, and generally scrubbing every tree/rock/bush for answers, I have decided that it is time to post. As I am new to these forums, I sincerely appreciate any assistance in this matter. I have tried the only two methods that I can find to root my phone. the one by Bin4ry which is found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460. and another one from a different site that was for JB. I have made sure that both debugging is on as well as allowing installations of non-market applications. I have tried every single usb mode, that just on the off chance, mine was that one phone that wanted to seperate itself from society. Since my phone is running ICS 4.0.4 I should be using Bin4ry's version, but I get stopped by this
Code:

I wish someone would resolve this I see people all over the place bragging they have rooted their exceeds "showing proof" and no-one seems to give a crap that some people can't afford the most easily rooted phones and are forced to get the most workable less expensive phones. I have student loans and would have to pay a $400.00 deposit to be able to pay 150 dollars for a semi decent phone and my carrier won't allow me to use the phone I've had for a couple years that I rooted myself. I just want a viable answer to how do you root the exceed I know what I'm doing but I work for a living (making very little at that) and have a child to support so I can't devote a week to figuring it out and am frustrated that nobody seems to give a crap about anything but the new razr or the iphone (trendys).

Yep, I just rooted my VS840PP, seems you need to use the Lg Spectrum root, but since I'm new I can't post links, but you will need the driver file "LG VZW_United_WHQL_v2.11.0.exe" and "LG_Spectrum_ICS.zip" (put these into a search engine)
Install Instructions
Download and unzip
Connect your phone to your PC
Make sure to have the LG USB drivers installed
Make sure to have debugging enabled
Make sure to have USB connectivity set to internet connection
Run the script for your OS (.bat for Windows, .sh for Linux)
Enjoy
I really did think it would make my phone not boot, but surprisingly it worked! EDIT 8-16-13 treat this phone like any other LG Lucid, which means you can go to CM 10 4.1 Jellybean on this phone.

Yeah one which is Android 4.1.2, the file is called "cm-10-20130424-UNOFFICIAL-vs840.zip", but you have to rollback to GB 2.3.6(due to locked ics bootloader), install root, CWM and finally install the CM 10 based LG Lucid beta rom. I see you edited your post and yes it is the standard LG Lucid Gingerbread downgrade method. The forum thread title is "[ROM][BETA] CyanogenMod 10 for the LG Lucid" and its on "androidforums.com" all info you need should be in that forum thread. I can tell you that Jellybean works very well on this phone, and I never want to go back to 4.0.4. :good: But of course there are some bugs, as it seems signal strength is lower, but I may have the wrong baseband for this phone.

You may have to install the baseband for the Exceed. I think in the CyanogenMod beta thread on AndroidForums there is a link but I'm not sure. Use ROM Manager to install CWM Recovery and then Flash CM10.

As long as you're rooted, search on the internet for "cwm installer for lucid" and follow the install instructions on gingerbread, then you want to flash the CWM touch recovery by searching for LGVS840_CWMT.zip and clicking on "CWM Touch Flashable Recovery for LG Lucid 4G - LG Cell Phones ..." Make sure you have the CWMT zip and LG Lucid CM 10.1 zip on your micro sd card. You then use rom manager to boot into recovery and flash the CWMT zip, then do a factory reset and clear caches and finally flash the LG Lucid CM 10.1 available on androidforums.

Hmm, after restoring successfully, for some reason I cant get the Wi-Fi to work. I tried both versions the V5 and V6 in the dropbox posted on android forum. Can root and everything but unable to access any internet without wifi. Kinda stuck without CWM. Any clues?
Edited: Whoops, Haha, a Factory Reset fixed it.
Edited: Blah after being able to install Rom Manager and installing CWM "Successful" I still get into CWM recovery.
Edited: CWM solved but now I get the "Cant Mount Sd" in CWM. Trided both "fat and "extFAT" and no go. Any Help?
Edited: Finally! Bad SD card! CM 10 up and running! Woot!

I think I may have had the same issue and it turned out the root files didn't extract correctly the first time, so I deleted the root files and extracted them again and it worked. Of course I can't exactly remember it now, but its worth a try. EDIT: Wait no, it looks like root installed fine, are you on stock ICS or Gingerbread? As Gingerbread has special root tools that are different from ics, also make sure you have superSU installed and try the root checker from the playstore.

New to the community and was hoping this was a good place for a related question. I have an exceed and I rooted without problem yesterday. I believe my SD Maid app deleted some important files or something because I stopped receiving incoming calls and texts. Anyway, I soft bricked my phone a few times and got the "Long time no see" message. I thought I unrooted my phone so I tried doing a hard reset thinking I would possibly fix the problem. That made matters worse. My soft brick became the only thing I could see no matter how many times I pulled the battery out and rebooted I was stuck at that screen. After hours of trying to get my pc to recognize my phone/get my phone in download mode, I finally fixed it and rooted again. Problem is that when I went through the unbrick process and flashed the kdz file to my phone, it was then stuck in activate mode. It wasnt a big deal because I just played dumb with verizon and they fixed it in their system being that when trying to activate it didnt give me the option to activate on my same plan/number. A bit annoying but better than nothing. My question is when I roll back to gingerbread or flash CM10 will I be stuck in activation mode again? Sorry for the long post, just figured I would give the what and why before my question!

[Guide] How to unlock WiFi Tethering on your HTC Desire 610 [Root, S-Off]

Root and S-Off Recommended
For S-Off look here then follow directions for permanent root in the development forum
1. Download a file explorer with root-browsing capabilities like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer from the Play Store
2. Using the file explorer you downloaded above, head over to /system/customize/ACC folder and open the default.XML file using any text editor.
3. Navigate to the following code near the bottom of the file:
<app name=”Tethering_provision”>
<item type=”integer”name=”TetheringGuard_rule”>3</item></app>
Notice the “3” above in bold. Change it to “0.” Save the edited text file and exit the app.
4. Reboot
Go into settings, enable WiFi Hotspot and it'll turn on. I did this on my At&t Desire 610, I assume other carriers can use the same method.
If Hotspot fails to initialize after being turned off, reboot your phone. I only came across this problem once.
Disclaimer/Piece of Mind: Most plans have data cap and tethering may and will consume data and possibly incure extra charges. I take no responsibility for what you do to your phone or consequences from said mod. :good:
Why is s off required? I'm trying to do this with my 510 and I hope the procedure is similar.

S-OFF is required to remove the write protection. I tried 5+ times to do this without S-off and every time it reverted back after rebooting. When you purchase S-OFF, it lets you save it permanently. $25 is a small price to pay to have tethering unlocked.
If you can make it work with S-on then I'll edit the OP. In my experience trying to write to the system will reboot the phone.

Let me know how it goes.
Isnt there a kernel that removed the write protect?
It doesn't work on my 510. I don't have soff, but I have a custom kernel with write protection removed, so the change persists across boot. Goodness, I'd hoped this would solve my problem.

the Jmz kernel does remove the write protection, and if you can deal with the various bugs that come along with it, than you'll be fine. Personally, I couldn't handle the periodic freezing so I ponied up the $25.

If you can make it work with S-on then I'll edit the OP. In my experience trying to write to the system will reboot the phone.

I changed it and it didnt reboot the phone but it needs reboot to stick (i think) and it doesnt stay at "0"
Can someone with jmz kernel please give it a shot? I dont use it anymore but bugs seemed to be minimal when i was running old firmware. Thanks.
$25 for this phone is a little steep. If it meant even one good custom rom id fork it over but Im thinking the price tag makes more sense for the flagship users. However, im still looking for a good reason...

Unless your S-off the changes won't stick during a reboot, I'm surprised the phone even let you get that far, as far as modifying the XML file. I'm working on a debloated ROM with this mod cooked in. Anybody want to test it for me? I'll upload it now to my drop box.

Yes. It let me edit it--there might be a mod im using that allows that? But went right back to 3 after reboot.

My internet was shut off for a few days so I was desperate to find out how to use my phone as a hot spot, I knew there was a way. This was the only working solution I was able to find.

Just playing around...this does work with jmz kernel. I flashed the deodexed rom last night and its way too early but no bugs so far. Instead of kk sd fix i used twrp manager and applied the sd patch. Im also using seeder.apk (which is free right now) The rom has busybox built in so installing your own could exacerbate bugs, maybe?
Most of the bugs i experienced with the kernel were tied somehow to the audio jack. That seemed to trigger crazy behavior like auto calling, voice google searches.
Tethering is good to have but my data plan sucks. I was hoping to use it as sort of a bridge for weak wifi spots but i find the wifi on the 610 is much slower than even older devices i own.
This setup probably wont be ideal for daily use but i feel like this would be a really good phone if it had some development.
I'm running stock, rooted with Xposed. No problems here. I've read people having various issues with JMZ Kernel.
Yea this phone is slow, a good Lollipop ROM would do wonders for the 610.

If you get s-off from sunshine, I think it'll unlock and root, but I believe you need to be locked and unrooted first. I'm not s-off so not certain. Once you are s-off, the WiFi tethering is simple. The one stipulation is it costs $25--a lot IMO since we really have no development on this phone.
If you read my earlier post in this thread, I was able to enable WiFi tethering and write to sdcard with s-on by flashing the jmz and stock deodexed firmware and jmz kernel which removes write protection. Most people don't do that because lots of bugs have been reported. So if you're willing to pay, checkout sunshine installer.
Btw--its been about a week and my phone has been fine (no freezes and no erratic behavior when plugged into audio jack) Its not super fast but this phone wasn't really fast to start. Your results may differ. My setup procedure is a little different. Instead of kk sdcard fix I use twrp manager and set the patch. The rest was a lot of trial & error and I lost track of exactly how I arrived here, but its been working fine for me.
I can't buy Sunshine form root ninja!
The support of ninjaroot told me that i can't buy their products for ppl of Venezuela, even having amazon gift card credit. y really need to unlock this awfull at&t limits, the freedom of using tethering and can use Quickpic as a default gallery and erase pics, further can manage the sd card, install xposed and all the stuff we can do in a normal Android phone. Plz if you can help me wiht this? it's really hard for us my country to get cellphones from US due ecommerce restrictions in our credit cards. how can i sd fix via twrp as you did?

That sucks. Well the only thing I can tell you is what I used right here in this forum BUT while I know the kernel works on international version, I'm not 100% on the stock deodexed rom. Do whatever research you can. Click "downloads" in the first post then pick our phone from the list. Flash the rom (which is rooted and has busy box built in, then flash the kernel)
