Galaxy S3 very slow internet, what to do? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got the S3 (4.0.4, I9300BOLF1) rooted out here in Poland (bought in Poland to use in Poland) and I am on the orange network. I got the H+ showing but my download speeds are some 10kbps or slower. Wifi just works fine and I can open up web pages in the browser just fine on the H connection.
Any ideas what could be causing the very slow speeds?

How did you fix it? I have exactly the same problem - since yesterday I have the H+ icon, but the speed is improbably slow. I tried deleting APNs, flashing different radio and three different ROMs. What's more interesting, it happend out of nowhere - everything was working fine and suddenly I couldn't connect with Facebook or anything else. Speedtest show that something is actually working, because it pings the server.. Forever. And then it does the test and stops it due to internect connection failure.
Any ideas?

Flash the LF3 modem. It helps alot with singal, speeds and battery

But isn't LF3 for Far East countries? I will give it a try, but the weird thing is everything was working perfectly okay and now it just isn't. I checked if something's happend to my IMEI, but it is intact. Also I checked my SIM card using other phone and it works just fine. Damn, I hate when the universe in biting my arse for no apparent reason. :/
UPDATE:
Changing the radio again made absolutely no difference..

Turned out it was a fault with my Network, the towns exchange was down or something so everything was being routed through another towns exchange. The call quality and Internet speed was slow because there ended up being too much traffic going through one exchange

TvCatchup, is it working for you?

Has anyone tried tvcatchup, not the mobile site. I load the channel and then enable the flash but nothing happens, eventually crashes the browser....
Just tried it here and the website and video loads fine (tested with BBC1), even over a HSPA signal, have you tried updating flash on your phone? The SGS2 ships with flash 10.1 but there is a 10.2 version on the market (but it doesn't show up in the My Downloads part of the market, you have to search for it).

hum.. doesn't work, I have flash 10.2 too... any suggestions?
Could it be your network blocking the stream? have you tried it while connected via wifi on a connection you know works?
using wifi and works fine on my Nexus S with the same wifi network...
Mine is a o2 branded payg model, would make any difference?
O2 block streaming video, as do all UK networks apart from 3 and Vodafone, so I'm afraid no iplayer for you either.
Im on 3 and loving the quick, unrestricted network
Tried it a few times during the night on my o2 branded and locked s2 with a simplicity SIM in, worked really well, you shouldn't be having problems over wifi though.
works ok with me,watching SpongeBob lol on iTv
Sorry to bump an old thread.
I've recently switched from an iPhone where I used to use iphone.tvcatchup.com ... but this doesn't work on the SGSII. Following the advice above, I managed to get the full site working over Wifi connection.
BUT .... if I try m.tvcatchup.com ... after selecting a channel, it asks if I want HQ or LQ stream. whichever I select, the channel is fuzzy and blocky. Totally unwatchable. (This is still via wifi at present)
Any ideas?

It works on Orange as well.
Incidentally, iPlayer doesn't work on any network. It only works on wifi.
I'm on three UK with unlimited internet and can confirm there are no restriction on tvcatchup.
Long may it last
Using tv catchup on vodafone
worked fine up to yesterday (use it everyday) - now its just a black screen (ive cleared all data/cache etc, uninstalled and re-installed etc)
dont use it now...gone back to web browsing
im on 3 too, no problems at all.
Anyone on o2 you are going to pay the price, simply because o2 just dont allow you the bandwidth to use such apps, how much data do they give these days, is it a gig or something.
Get on 3, you wouldnt regret it.

Hi all,
First time poster, long time follower!!
I'm hoping someone can help me here because i have a real headache with my galaxy s2.
When i got it at Christmas everything was perfect. But two weeks later i suddenly lost my 3g. Phone works fine on 2g (except for the slow speed), but i contacted my carrier 3Ireland and they said everything is fine on their end. My APN is perfect, i've tried toggling airplane mode, entering codes, data package checks. You name it and i've tried it.
When i force my phone to select 3g it looses all signal and i have to restart my phone and quickly go back into settings to choose 2g or i will loose signal again.
This is the following on my phone.
Android version 2.3.5
Baseband version I9100XXKI4
Kernel Version [email protected] #2
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKI8
I've being reading about modem/radios lately, is that just the baseband? Could that be my problem. I'm a noob at this kinda thing.I just want my 3g to come back.
All help is greatly appreciated. Look forward to hearing from you all.
Thanks.

It would be interesting to know your SGS2 is white version as well as mine.
I have to say that I have another SGS2 but old black version which is perfectly functional on the same 3 network. After playing a very long times with both phones settings, I have a feeling that the core of the problem lies in the "APN type" setting. Changing it's content affects how it connects to network. I have no deep understanding of what is happening behind the scene while changing this option, but there is a possibility that the portion of file system responsible for it somehow been damaged.
It would be great if the developers could tell us if this part of the Android file system is changed while flashing different firmware/radio, or it is persistent?

Dial *#*#4636#*#*, go to phone information and see the settings for the radio. It should be at the bottom. Google the settings for the GSM, WCDMA. Mine is currently 'GSM auto PRL'. 'WCDMA Preferred'is also a better option for 3G network.

Thank you. I fiddled with GSM, WCDMA settings as you said, but no luck.
What is even more interesting is if the network mode is set to "WCDMA only", then I'm not even able to register on 3 network. After an attempt to manually connect to 3 via "Network Operators" menu, it says "Unable to connect. Try later".
Also after connecting via WCDMA, and then reverting back to GSM, the GSM dies as well. The only solution is to restart the phone.
If it is a software bug, then I do not understand why this problem did not go away after flashing different Rom with radio.

T-Mobile USA?
If yes, you're probably in a market that they have not yet re-farmed the 1900mhz frequency for HSPA+ yet. The i9100 doesn't get 1700mhz, and the majority of T-Mobile USA's network uses the AWS band, which requires both 1700 and 2100mhz to work for 3g/"4g".

Go to settings, phone update, and update profile. This works sometimes. The alternative to do a hands-free activation like reaper said which requires you to know your msl and go into EPST.
I just noticed that here at work today and over the weekend i know someone else who was complaining to me about this as well, except he called sprint and they said they had a tower down near him for a few days as they upgrade it to lte.
But it could also be software related too as mentioned before.

[Q] RomAur and DemonKernel 4G not working

Everything is working fine with these two. However, the internet is not working. It connects to LTE, H+ and 3G but no data is transferred. I can't post on the RomAur or demonkernel posts yet as I am new here. I was wondering if there is any fix for LTE. Maybe another baseband. I am from Australia. Could that be an issue?
Thanks.

[Q] Mobile network data connection drops. Why?

I have a problem with my Galaxy s6 Edge.
When browsing the web with only mobile data turned on, wether using edge/3g/lte, the mobile loses connection .
I still have connection visible in the status bar, but wepages stop recieving data and it just stays hanging, with the loading bar at the same place. It can be fine for 3-4 minutes and then start to act up again.
One sollution is to toggle data connection on/off, then it will work again, but only for a couple of minutes. My phone is unrooted. I have tried factory reset. I have tried using the different settings in mobile data; just gsm7just wcdma and wcdma/gsm- automatic etc. The signal strenght seem to be about 75-77dbma.
Do anyone have the same problem, know of a cause for this, or have possible a sollution? Please share
I've had a similar issue a few times now. No discernable cause. Solved by airplane mode toggle.
Sent from my SM-G925V using XDA Free mobile app
Yes, I will try that, but think thats about the same effect as toogling data. It helps, but the problem is still there. I sent an mail to Samsung about this issue. Hope it is software related and can be fixed. Its frustrating cause I`m reliant on stable data connection. When logging in again, the webpage has changed and i`ve lost my opportunity.

Sorry to hear that! Its a shame paying this much money and find out about these problems. This phone replaced my s4 because of the "sim card not detected-restart" error on the s4. First Samsung denied the issue. When they admitted it, I had already opened it up and exchanged the sim card reader, and lost warranty. That was not the fix.
Hope the issue will be fixed with updates. Lesson learned- Dont buy first batch of mobiles. Wait for prices to go down, and a more mature hardware.

I have the exact same issue on my s6. I can't figure out why it happens. It appears and disappears for no obvious reason. I wouldn't mind waiting for a software update to solve the problem but I can't stop wondering if I have a defective unit.
I' starting to wonder if there are network changes on the phobecausing this. The signal keeps going from H to H+. And maybe the adapter has to reset before it can download again. Just a hunch, but I have noe knowledge about what's happening.
But, if this was a widespread problem, I think more people would come forward saying they have this issue. If they don't have it, then maybe we got bad lemons, and we have too keep exchanging til we find one that works.
Its an software problem ( i guess of managing "swap" between h h+ and LTE. after 7 day of test i got the mobile replaced from mediaworld, and the new one have the same issue.
Im from italy with Vodafone, maybe all of us are vodafone.
can be interesting discover from where we are and our mobile company.

I'm using "Telenor" here in Norway. They have a 1 month deal with Samsung to be the only supplier of the edge. Tried to get internet/mms setup sent from them, but it said this wasn't available for this phone. But going to their guide, it seems everything I set up as it should.
I tried switching on the data roaming. That seems to solve the issue so far. I haven't had to switch the data on and off for more than 24 hours now. Before this I had to do it multiple times every day. I guess it's safe to say that the problem came from the software side. Let's hope that fix it in the next update. I'm using international version, though.

I just turned on the data roaming, but still on the same service. Now I can't really tell if that really did the trick. I got new firmware update just the day before yesterday and now the network drop is gone. If you haven't got any update yet maybe you just gotta wait. It's eventually fixed.

I have the same problem with a Samsung S6, AOE3. I want to return or change the phone, but I don't know if this is a software or a hardware problem....and to have the same problem with the next phone
I've got the same issue. Only airplane mode on and off helped me. But I've to do it many times during the day. I wrote a letter to Samsung and waiting their response.
Just read about roaming "on" as one of the users mentioned here, still testing.
PS I'm from Russia (on local forum many people has this problem). Hope this is software problem.
Same problem about my s6 edge mobile data connection
Still dont know what happen . I already have note series but there's nothing like this one. this make browsing much harder coz data stuck and keep hanging bout 1-2 minutes. Please make it fix ASAP . I love my s6edge
I am from Canada i have same issue plus my phone does not even have lte/gsm/wcdma option but still when i go on the *#2263# menu and put my phone to lte/wcdma it looses connection in like 5 minutes.
but still if i am connected to the internet same issue connection stops and it starts woking after a minute or so but really really frustating specially with a price tag on this phone.
