Please Help with sd card!!! - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I have a 32gb 10th class SD card on my SIII and a big problem with it. Gallery doesnt show my pictures (only 1 folder of 5) and music (I can play it but it crashes few times on song).
I can see everything whats in it on pc and any mobile explorers, but not on gallery.
Looks like it only shows me about 500mb of what is in SD Card.
I use Omega v18, but any other ROM's acts the same, even stock.
I used to have 4gb card before and it was ok.
Formated it multiple times in all possible systems: NTFS; FAT32; exFAT
Is there anything else i can do?
Update:
Put that SD Card on other Samsung Phone (Not rooted) and it was ok. Showed everything.
Does it mean that i have to get my phone to warranty?

Copy everything you want to keep and reformat the sdcard in FAT32, that`s all you can do imo.

Unroot it first, go to the CF-Root thread and download Triangle Away, install it on your phone and reset the counter within the app. Than flash a stock rom from www.sammobile.com/firmware and download the rom of your country/region. Flash it with Odin v3 3.0.4 and after it is installed and rebooted perform a data/factory reset in backup and restore. See items 2 and 3 on from where and how to flash stock firmware. Good luck mate

Uupp, I know how to unroot phone, but there is no stock on the internet for my carrier or location :/ i guess i should of checked before rooting it.

Had the same issues myself.
Found out that the phone doesn't work with a Class 6 SD card, but works perfectly with a class 4.
So worth checking your SD card.
Ian.

Is a partitioned SD a giveaway that I've rooted?? I flashed, what seems to be, stock 2.2.1 Froyo, though my SD is still partitioned and there is some system folder on it I think. Is there another way to detect if my device has been rooted and flashed??
You could have partitioned the card through a card reader using a computer as well, so it doesn't point to being rooted. Although having an sd partition on stock rom when it's of no use is kind of suspicious.
there are many ways to knw that u've rooted beside sd card.. u dnt need to give ur sd card to the service center ppl..

Well, 2.2.1 has been flashed, so it looks the same as it did when I received it, I'm not root anymore so the superuser tab has been removed and I don't have any root apps on. Pretty much stock like day 1 except 2.2.1 instead of 2.2.0. What other means could there be??

Then remove the recovery. Go to the flashable recoveries zip files thread in the development section by ciaox. I can't post links right now because I'm on the phone. I think ciaox has the link in his signature. Anyway, go to this thread and download 'original_recovery_thunderg.zip ' ( or something to that effect). Boot into recovery and flash this zip, and your recovery will be removed.

OMG. People, flashing recovery and/or rooting your device will not partition your SD card, at all. So, I really fail to see why he should flash stock recovery or whatever.

He apparently does not know what he did at all. Anyway, flashing stock recovery or unrooting will certainly not remove any partitions from SD card by magic so those advices are just completely wrong, plus it is not really what was asked in the first place.

You do not detect a rooted phone by looking whether the SD card is partitioned or not.

Does not go anywhere.
@OP: Can you kindly explain what is your problem? Because it is damn hard to understand what are you trying to do.
If you do not want the SD card partitions any more, then simply delete them (in PC or whatever). Frankly, it is not even clear whether you have more than one partition on your card from your fuzzy description.
Let me re-phrase my Q.. I do know what I was doing. I flashed Void, my Nandroid backups didn't work when I wanted to restore cuz I didn't like Void, I lost network cuz my phone was stuck in flight mode, I flashed a 2.2.1 stock .DZ from my PC. Since my phone was stuck in flight mode (useless), I took the phone to myservice provider and they ordered me a new one.
What are the chances of them detecting that I had rooted and flashed Void before??

Hmmm, wondering why did not you ask this normal question in the first place. Chances are none after you flashed a stock ROM via KDZ, wipes everything on the phone.
(Do not understand why did you return the phone without wiping/removing the SD card, honestly... kinda sensitive data there regardless whether it is rooted or not.)
Does flashing a rom vain kdz remove custom recovery also?

[Q] 3 problems with applications

Hi,
I have 3 problems related to applications for which I can't find solution.
1st is that after removing/uninstalling applications and then restarting phone at some point for whatever reason there are visible remnants of them. (screenshot attached)
I am able to uninstall them again, but after another restart they are back. So how to get rid of them for good?
2nd problem is that certain applications seems to uninstall/delete themselves upon phone reboot. It seems its related to SD card where they put themselves during install. I have tried to move majority of apps back to phone, but seems only some of them are affected by this. There are apps which are installed/moved to SD and they work fine even after restart, so don't know. Maybe some of them are not working after moving to SD? Although for some its strange because they install itself to SD without me moving them.
3rd problem appeared today. Yesterday I have updated to ICS via Kies and installed 5 updates from Market. Today after restart the same apps were back to previous versions and Market offered me the same updates for the same apps. Whats the problem with this?
Thx for your help
Reads as possible corruption of SD card .

And how do I do it? What folders? LOST.DIR?
Or to put to computer and run chkdsk to check lost files?

I THINK what he's suggesting is that when you have apps installed to your sd card, then an update occurs, then if there are differences in how partitioning works between your old OS version and your new OS version, you may lose some apps.

Then there's a bunch of unintelligible gibberish... Seems to be suggesting that restoring apps using Titanium backup can cause issues, and suggests formatting the external SD card on your PC instead of in your phone.

Back up your /efs folder before you do anything. (which I agree with wholeheartedly)
I think I translated that correctly.
Thanks for your translation mate although I am not sure if he said anything what can help me except deleting and formatting all which is really something what I would like to avoid for now.
LOST.DIR is empty on both internal and external SD card.
Also the problem with remnants was happening before I upgraded to ICS, do I don't think its related to partitioning at all.

Last time I had this issue, it was on my Moto Milestone where I had app2sd running, and my SD card was becoming corrupted. I had to format my SD card and re-install the affected apps.
Hmm, I am not using any external app like app2sd, just the option which is offering Android itself. You were formatting internal or external one?

I was describing my condition on one of my old phones. (An old Motorola Milestone, which did not have an internal SD) Not an I9100.
If you are using the default app2sd in Android, then you'll want to format internal. But back up all your files (music, pictures, whatever else) before you do, obviously.
I see. Yeah I was planning to do backup of course, but if I copy back all after format won't be back also the problem?
Lost dir from me was to check for corruption as thats where corrupt sd card files go.

It shouldn't matter...
But my advice is to go through your installed apps and make a list of all apps that are marked as installed to your SD. Then uninstall all of the ones that are. Then back up your internal SD, and do your format of internal SD.
DO NOT copy back the .android_secure folder after you format. This is the folder that Android uses for it's built-in app2sd. (so it will get created again automatically later)
That means you'll have to re-install all of the apps you made a list of above, but it SHOULD help alleviate your problem.

The condition he describes is that the app is no longer being registered as installed. So I don't think he'll be able to do this.
Thanks mate, I am now making backup of internal SD card before formatting although there is no .android_secure folder. There is one on external SD card, but its empty. Anyway will try the format after all the data are copied.
So backup done, formatted card, copied all back, restarted phone and the remnants are still there

Hmm.. you may not have a choice but to do a factory reset/full wipe to get rid of 'em. Sorry dude.
Thats not what I wanted to hear. Should I go for factory reset available directly from Android or should I boot to recovery and go with factory reset/wipe data or wipe cache?

Either one should be fine.
FYI, you can back up most stuff you have and restore using various methods, so you can get back to your current state... it will just take a bit of effort.
And which would you recommend? I have Titanium Backup Pro to use or is there easier way?

[Q] Sandisk 64 gb Micro sd card

I just put one in the phone and viewed that under storage it sees it ok. Good sign I guess since I read many people cannot even get phone to read it or see it properly. If not, you are good to go the way it is.

Two things with these cards:
1: back it up religiously, I have had two of them go bad on me.
2: if that procedure for formatting it won't work for you (some versions of windows can't do this by default), then use EaseUS Partition Master. That is a free DL and works super.

Let me ask you something, if you switch to say an aokp rom or cm or maybe even clean rom, does your main memory (internal memory) stay swapped or does it revert your main memory back to 16gb?

CWM Recovery not recognizing extSD (Verizon)

I was originally going to post this under the developer section, but seeing how it won't let me post there until I've reached over 10 posts, (started new acct instead of trying to find old login info) I figured I'd try here:
I successfully rooted my device earlier and all is going well, but I'm running into a snag for backing up in custom recovery/flashing new ROMs. The recovery isn't recognizing my extSD card, but the phone when booted will. I've moved the ROMs to the extSD to save space and want my backup to go there as well.
Anyone found a fix for this at all?
What kind of sd card?
Check /mnt/extSdCard/
I've got OUDHS CWM... so depending on the recovery tool you have, it may be different for you.

It's a SanDisk ultra 64GB.From what I've read elsewhere it sounds like I may need to reformat it to FAT? When I got the card I just formatted it in the device itself

I'm using CWM recovery also... I guess I'll reformat my card and try again

FAT32 is what you need. I have a 64gb Samsung card and the same thing happened to me. Formating in the phone won't do it. I ended up finding a 3rd party app (EaseUs Partition Master - free edition) and formatted it on the pc (using either built-in or accessory card reader). Afterwards you'll have all the access you're lacking!!
Just confirming what the others are saying - if you installed the card on stock and then rooted to CM you will find that the card doesn't work but DOES still have data on it, if you want to get it off easiest way is PC/Mac otherwise you can format it if you don't mind losing the data.
