Razr m??? - Motorola Droid RAZR

I've been hanging on to my upgrade for a while and I think its time to use it. The two phones I'm trying to decide between is the razr maxx and the new razr m. I current am using a HTC incredible 2 which for me has been by far the best device I've ever used. I love it! Ill be able to get the razr m for 49 or the maxx for 100. Which direction should I go???

Maxx is a much bigger battery, HD maxx also huge battery but also has bigger display fit into the same form factor as the current maxx, also has a better processor

The new razr HD is a snapdragon

Just remember if you currently have unlimited data and you upgrade, you will lose unlimited. That being said I went from the Inc 2 to the Bionic to the Razr Maxx. I would recommend the Maxx.

If you're thinking about getting the RAZR Maxx, just wait and get the Maxx HD....it's better!! Bigger screen, HD display and Super Amoled HD, plus better processor 1.5 ghz dual core snapdragon S4. My Maxx lags!! ICS is great on it but it's NOT smooth. I wish it had that 1.5 S4 processor.
Even the RAZR HD is a good choice, probably will be cheaper like the skinny RAZR is to the Maxx. The RAZR HD has a decent battery. Why debate between the RAZR M vs. Maxx?
If I were you I would decide between the RAZR HD or Maxx HD. You will save money on the RAZR M and I understand we all like saving money lol. But I feel with the battery in my Maxx it was worth the extra 100 bucks over the skinny RAZR.

Size is one of the main reasons. Don't want a large bulky feeling phone. The razr m has a 1.5 snapdragon too and I don't wanna wait til November. So its either the razr m or the maxx...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

My RAZR Maxx has a 1.2 dual core TI O-Map processor not a 1.5 Snapdragon S4. So they're different. If you're talking about the RAZR HD or Maxx HD then those run the same processor the RAZR M does.
They said the Maxx HD is the same size as the original Maxx, the screen is bigger, not the phone.

The maxx battery is the business!
The M looks like a great buy as well. If it had the maxx battery I would like one. My maxx is just on the edge of being cumbersome.

just ordered the M right now on my biz acct only came to $129.99 for a 1year contract so leaves me open in a year if i need something more. consumer accounts are getting dicked these days...have to do 2 year plus looked at the GFs and they only offered it for $99 plus $30 activation fee... and shes been on a htc dinc1 for almost 3 years.
coming from the htc dinc2 as well, this phone is slightly smaller in overall dimension. the one thing i will miss is swapping batteries; had 2 extra plus el cheapo batt charger from onld htc dinc1.
im looking for smaller size primarily. been thinking about an s3 for a while, but wanted to wait out for the next nexus successor and get closer to pure android but after mucking up my dinc2 in water last week and using an old droidx all week i need to go back to ICS (had dinc2 on CM10 actually). dont need a gigantic phone so opted for the less expensive route. plus the s3 and M have same CPU and almost same batt size.
hoping moto goes the path of pure android soon...

Wonder if Verizon is going to get the HTC one x +... if so it changes everything lol

I'd go for the RAZR M. Much more compact, same screen and much more power than current MAXX. Nice when gaming. Most likely it will also receive new versions offcially for a longer period. Compared the standard RAZR it's got a 12 % bigger battery as well as more power efficient CPU, so should do fine though the day, even though it's no maxx
If gaming isn't your thing, go for MAXX. I certainly wouldn't call it bulky
If you can wait for a few more months and pay som more $, then the RAZR HD (MAXX) will definetly be the king. Even the non-MAXX version of RAZR HD should have a fairly impressive battery life.

Went for the Razr after seven days of Nexus testing. Mostly due to brighter screen, SD card slot, camera and battery.

Well, I buy the phones....so yeah...n RAZR was my first choice. Ive been buying every phone in the franchise since the V3
I initially wanted the nexus, but Hort tired if all the delays and got the razr. And I have to say, I liked it better then what the galaxy nexus sounds like. I'm impressed with how solid the phone feels. After coming from the thunderbolt. The features of the razr I like better and we won't have to wait to long to get ice cream sandwich.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA App
I had the GSM galaxy nexus and now I have the GSM Droid razr
-Pros (galaxy nexus)
Ice cream sandwich
Better battery life
The best or one of the best looking phones in the smartphone industry
Panoramic setting for camera
NFC
Super amoled HD
Front facing 2mp camera
-Cons
5mp camera
Soft speaker
Signal issues
Lack of micro SD slot
-Pros (razr)
8mp camera
Better speaker
Motocast
qHD display
Android 4 standard keys (pro or con depending on what you like)
Micro SD slot
-Cons
1.3 MP camera
2.3.5 android (for the time being)
Wide design
Battery life
In the end both phones are awesome but I feel like the Droid razr is more for me.

I wanted the nexus; but when i tired one it had a few issues; then i read the boards and saw others (but not everyone) had the same issues. No clue if bad samples or flaws in the phone (the major issue I noticed was very soft speaker; and on my test calls the person sounded garbled; though they said i was very clear). That coupled with signal issues i've read about scared me off. To be honest if the rezound had the razr's screen I would have gone that route (biggest flaw of hte rezound screen is weak visibility outside and highly reflective). To be honest I wished verizon had gotten the galaxy 2; I think my biggest dislike with the razr is the non-changeable battery (coupled with limited battery life) and verizion bloat wear. I hope ICS lets us disable some of this verizon crap; i find it laughable that the biggest issue with the moto. upgrade last week is some people have issue with verizion location agent chewing up battery life.
The above rant is relevant in that on the nexus (almost ) no mandatory verizon apps.
Nexus seems to have a lot of connectivity issues not only with data but also in general with calls. Granted it has ICS give it a few months and RAZR will have it. They both have super amoled screens and almost identical processors. GN being slightly newer.
I say if the RAZR had ICS now, it would win EVERY comparison review. Most places I read that compare the 2 prefer the razr and either put it at a tie or give it to the GN just for ICS... Just by having ICS it shouldn't outweigh its short comings.
Battery is fine on my Razr. I donno how it could be a con. Better than my rooted cm7 DX even.

I have a Razr and am quite happy with it... But will convert it to Maxx as soon as the parts are available.
This is more like what I would expect given how much longer the Razr has been out over the Maxx. Oh I should have added one of the new color Razr's as a choice... oh well too late.
Maxx for the win The battery life soars light years ahead of my third battery in my Incredible.

It's actually both the RAZR and the RAZR MAXX. They run identical software. The only real difference is the bigger battery, slight change in the color of the housing and the Motorola plate on the front top is changed. The XT912 is the "Droid" version for VZW and the XT910 is the GSM version used world wide. Although there is no MAXX for the XT910.

Razr Maxx here. Tons of battery life with 4G on all day!
I am probably going to get the RAZR, because the Maxx is $100 more just for battery. I'll just go pick up a USB battery pack for $40 and then I get a thinner phone, too. Also, the white looks pretty sharp. Haha, get it (Its not very funny)?
Any RAZR owners know of the best ICS rom?

Best to get the MAXX. The extra battery life is worth it. I had the RAZR and carried around an extra potable battery charger. Once the MAXX was announced I returned the RAZR. Bought the MAXX on launch day, best decision I made. I get about 18+ hours on a single charge. Best RAZR did was 8-9 hours.

Post Your RAZR/RAZR Maxx Story.

How did you end up with this phone? What made you choose it? What makes you keep it? Post your story.
I have the Razr Maxx on Verizon Wiress (CDMA). Things I dislike about this phone...
1. The camera, it's no slouch but I got use to the camera on my previous GS2. That has better lense/camera.
2. Slight lag here and there, again I came from a GS2 that used Exynos processor.
3. No HD display BUT I am a big fan of Super Amoled. I just love how the colors pop.
4. Locked boot loaders!! (My Samsung GS2 was so easy to root and flash things on.)
There was even some points I thought of selling my Maxx and getting a GS3. I loved the GS2 but main problem was it had a really horrible wireless radio plus being on Sprint network did not help. I had no intentions in getting a Razr when I walked into the Verizon store. I already liked Samsung, I just needed better service. Had my mind on the Galaxy Nexus. But I loved the build of the slim RAZR. Tried it for a week or so, Ioved it. Got signal in areas I never did with other phones being on other networks. Battery was a big problem, like most Android phones, I said eff it and got the Maxx.
The radio and battery life make up for all the things I dislike about this phone. I just got a case from Seidio and that gives me the new phone feel again lol. I gave up things getting this phone but I've also gained things so it balances out

also have working Linux 12.04 and all open office full programs
forget to charge one nite and it still runs all day the next...
64 gb SD card - 500hrs video and 1000 songs and still 18 gb. (I have 5 Linux distros for testing also -10gb)
12 games
off air GPS maps for all of northern NY plus Google maps off air redundant

The main criteria to buy a phone, is it has to be able to works as a phone. Period. Previously, I have RAZR V3xx, before changed to other Nokia phones and the Nexus One. V3xx was a very good phone which did a very good job as a phone; makes and receives calls. It also a very good HSDPA 3G "modem", USB tethered to laptop. Now I have RAZR XT910... and it just as good as the V3xx. I don't care how many cores, benchmark's scores or frames speed, but, if it cannot functioning as a proper phone, than it is worthless to me.
Thank you.

Got razr m yesterday!

Got the raze m Yesterday and I must say that for so $99 with contract you just can't beat it. Little disappointed I bought razr Maxx then moto releases 3-4 killer phones soon after. ...it is what it is. Anyway razr m is a little on the small side which i like and its solid. The phone is a great size, it fits so naturally in your hand. The benchmark results from quadrant was nothing shy of 4467! I think that's impressive compared To my Maxx Which is upper 2700s. Does that extra .3ghz make that huge of a difference? This dual core rocking the snap dragon 1.5ghz is right up there with the HTC one x

I think it's more of the Snapdragon S4 processor being better than TI-OMap. I don't care for benchmarks, it's about real world usage.
RAZR M is cool. I would upgraded to the Maxx HD though. You not getting much change from a Maxx to RAZR M in my opinion. Better processor and more recent software stuff but what else? Not trying to hate, just saying the HD RAZR's would of been a better upgrade for me.

I think the OP was referring to the new Razr's announced. Razr M, Razr HD, Razr Maxx HD, and Razr i. It is kind of soon because the Razr Maxx came out in 2012 and it hasn't even been 12 months yet and Motorola's already got 4 new and better phones out/coming out.

The RAZR MAXX came out towards the end of Jan. The Droid 4 was in Feb. The RAZR M just came out in the 2nd week of Sept. That's a lot of time between phones for Motorola. I count 3 new phones coming out, the RAZR M and the RAZR HD and MAXX HD. The RAZR/MAXX HD phones most likely aren't coming until sometime around Thanksgiving. That would be a year after the 1st Droid RAZR was released.

The OP has a Razr Maxx, not the skinny Razr, so it's not even a year yet. A year is 12 months in the U.S.
Shows how much quality they put into each of their phones. It's clear they care more about putting out the most phones they can rather than focusing on quality such as their average 8MP camera work just to name something. For me it's about quality, not quantity. The Razr M is cool for a lower end release (save some people money). The Razr Maxx HD would of been enough of a successor from the Razr/Razr Maxx. What is the point for them to release the Razr HD? And I don't even care for the Razr i.
Well for me I would get the regular Razr Hd, I like my phone to be thin and its the same specs as the Maxx so why not? When i bought my razr the maxx was already out and i chose the regular razr because it was so damn thin i love it.
The only thing that really pisses me off about the new phones is that they are all thicker than the originals. I agree the maxx has an awesome battery but too me its not worth the thickness, even if it is slight.

If you're bored with android, an iphone will seem like a dumb phone! My husband has an iphone, no widgets, no customization of home screens. With ios 6 maps suck just overall boring phone.

The razr m is a downgrade from og razr as it only has 8gb internal and i bet that only a 1gig is available for programs to install on. The og razr has 16gb and 2 gb free of internal storage.

Is it still worth it to buy a RAZR

Is it still worth it to buy a RAZR coming from a thunderbolt? I know anything will be better then what I have now, but I want to keep my unlimited data. I'm mixed between the nexus and RAZR since they are both around the same price on eBay. I would prefer the large battery since I use my phone now as a hotspot.

I just came from a Thunderbolt to a RAZR. You may have even seen me in the forums there if you viewed them... I was very active. Needless to say, it's worth it to try a RAZR. Compared to how the Thunderbolt was made, this phone physically feels cheap in your hand... but it's no competition to the Bolt.
I'd try it out if I were you. With you also being a Thunderbolt user, especially after who knows how long, I'm sure you'll have a pleasant experience.

If you don't play heavy games, the RAZR MAXX will do very well. If you like to play too though, better pick the Razr Maxx HD because the chip is newer. Not that the RAZR Maxx can't handle, but it show it's age like when playing the Iron Man 3 for example.
Thanks for the input. In have had the TB to long, since it was released.

Definitely a great upgrade from a TBolt. It's still a top phone going over a year and a half now. Dual core 1.2 and a decent screen. They only thing I would want upgraded (still content with) is the screen. It could be more HD. The battery is ok being has I have an OG Razr. I definitely recommend the MAXX if it is in your budget. I came from Droid 2.

The screen on this XT912 RAZR is MUCH better than the Thunderbolts. This screen is amazing.

Well i'd rather go for a Nexus 4 or a Maxx HD.
I, too, had a Thunderbolt since the day it was released, but inherited my wife's XT912 a couple of months ago, after she upgraded to a Note 2. Since HTC released ICS for the TB, I've been occasionally switching back to the old' "Bolt" every now and then, and its still really quite useful. I would get a RAZR Max HD, if you can afford it, as I am underwhelmed by the poor camera on my Razr Maxx.

Well yea it is. I'm saying the only thing I really want to improve on this phone is the screen. In no way was I comparing it to the Tbolts screen.
