In my opinion posts such as the one quoted above are more a waste of time than the original question - and the poster should be presented with a warning for such a useless, unhelpful posting. 3 people posted useless post's - with only 1 - JJEgan supplying info of any help!
The poster asks a good question, though technically and rule wise he's probably not allowed to ask such a question. Its one of them questions with no real answer - is more of a vote / opinion poll.
Which ROM and kernel sgs3 is good in battery, stable and fast?
I've tried so so many of the ROM's in an attempt to find an answer.
Right now I'm on Android Revolution HD 8.5.0, using the kernel that it came with.
Works fab
But then so did CheckRom and many others.
So the real answer is personal choice and in particular how your unique device runs on a particular ROM. Trial and error. Good luck :good:

Sorry didn't understand "Your post is typical of those that want to create chose in the forums" - did you mean choice or chaos or ......?
Im new here (posting wise) but I think that rather than posting a post stating a post is useless, thereby creating another useless post - instead a user should report the post by the clicking the button symbolized with an exclamation mark in a triangle labelled "Report Post" or contact a Moderator. Am I wrong in saying that? I've used XDA since the HTC Desire came out, and forever Im seeing useless posts. Makes reading the forum's a nightmare. I just want an end to it all.

I notice you are a newbie on here so no doubt you are unaware that this very same question gets asked day in,day out, year in,year out on these forums therefore you might understand that regulars on these forums are sick to the back teeth and the only way to prevent these type of posts are temporary bans and if noobs persist then a full ban

Thread closed, read, and learn for yourself.

[Q] Problem with the 10 post rule

Hey,
So I have been a regular visitor to this site for about 2 years now ever since I first rooted my HTC desire.
I have downloaded and tested many custom ROM's for the desire and the SGS2.
My recent favorite ROM is resurrection remix which i have been using various builds of since xmas. And only now do I have a question that no one has asked and I cant find an answer to.
Of course since I have never needed to post before when I tried to ask my question it wont let me because i have not made 10 useful comments. The only place I find useful comments is on the development forums. There is nothing specifically that I need from the other ares of the site and so I cannot offer any feedback that would be helpful to others there... the only place I can make useful comments is on the development forums, which is exactly where Im not allowed to make them.
So how does one get around that?
Luke
Probably not, but you can try contacting a moderator, the rule is there to avoid people joining and spamming the dev section with crap, if that isnt your plan they may be able to help you out.

Exactly the same situation for me (even down to the 2 years and HTC Desire ).
Do what I did and make yourself useful by answering others questions. You'll be surprised how much you actually know

I'm in the same boat bud. Hopefully we will get one day to ask questions in the normal thread. Can't wait.

Personally and apart from the spam issue the ten post thread in dev section is far to low a number one only has to read the inane posts from users with more than ten posts in many dev threads .
But how do you overcome the problem of a large amount of idiots posting who cannot be bothered to read the rules read the faqs or instructions and repetitively ask the same questions .it reflects badly on those who like the OP have taken time to read and learn as they are treated the same .
jje
That rule also stopped me in my tracks. But I can see the point on the development forums.
After the "no you can't" it encouraged me to look harder for answers and ask the (dum) questions on the general forum.
I realize the point is to avoid opening new threads for questions that might be better served in the appropriate development thread, but if you've searched and haven't found your answer I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to post one in Q&A or General, but make sure you exhausted all search options before you do.
Same for me...To be honest I wanted to answer questions and help members, not to ask myself but... I see the point of the rule, there are too many people that will ask (dum) Q without even bothering to use the search tool and filling the threads with crap when there is no need to...
Solution:
make thread about it.
Answer all who replys
Profit

Also have same problem, I just posted a question here that I feel would be better suited to go in the Dev thread of the ROM I use.

Unfortunately, there will be some people (a minority) affected by this rule who probably shouldn't be (those who wouldn't post crap to dev threads from the get go), but at the end of the day it goes some way to reducing the mountains of crap which get posted to dev threads every day (at least 75% of posts in my experience. I'm probably being generous).
Again unfortunately (for the people who would do the right thing if this rule wasn't in place), no system is perfect in this regard. Frankly, I'd rather have the current system in place as opposed to making things open slather. Changing the current rule would make an already bad situation even worse IMHO.
Edit to add - As was suggested on the first page of this thread, you can always plead your case to a mod if you think the rule shouldn't apply to you for whatever reason.
Further edit - Poster above me. Your recent post in Q&A is a prime example of the type of post which should not be cluttering a dev thread. It is a general question, and not specific to a particular rom.

A great example of the mountains of crap that spew out of many of the users (if you look in there I'm sure I'm guilty too) in this forum, check out the CM9 discussion thread, imagine if that was in the dev thread, how would codeworkx and the others ever find anything that might be relevant?
Find 10 noobs to help in Q&A section, help said noobs, done.

This is true too, when I started I felt handcuffed by the 10 post limit, but I spent a little time reading posts and using the knowledge I gained to help out others and my post (and thanks) count quickly increased well beyond the limit. Helping others also gave me more understanding to be able to troubleshoot my own problems.
Yep that's exactly right Thracemerin, a perfect example.
I dread getting home from work & having to scroll thru 18 hrs worth/sometimes up to 40 pages of posts in the CM9 discussion thread & 90% of them are utter crap.
You're right, if it were in the dev thread, I think Codeworkx, Xplodwild et al would have given up ages ago.

Apologies I stand corrected, I thought it would be ROM related as the only info I could find through search was about adding poweron.ogg to system/etc and making sure permissions are set correctly and this is not working for me.

Fair points
I can see the point to it cutting down a number of people who would make useless comments, although the development forums are still littered with idiots who type before they think or even look around for a solution.
OK I'm off to trawl the forums to see who I can help!

In the stickies on this forum is help for rebooting prooblems and so you think you've bricked your phone. Yet there constantly appears postings about phone rebooting and Please Help I've Bricked My Phone, and by far most of these it is the poster's first posting.
Maybe the rule should be that you cannot start a new thread, in any forum, until you have 10 posts. Every forum has a FAQ thread that they can post on if they have searched on here and can't find anything.

Should there be a noob Q&A?

Being a bit of a newb myself. I wondered if anyone agrees that there should be at separate Q&A for noob (novice) questions only.
Therefore more experienced users can filter out stupid questions that even I think is ridiculous. Leaving the Q&A for real problems, rather than simple and stupid questions like "how do I flash a new modem" etc. I propose this idea in all platforms and models.
I felt as a true noob, some time ago that people are very quick to snap at noobs. Leaving them feeling like quitting and giving up. As a community member I feel this is an issue. Having a Q&A for noobs I hope would not leave noob questions unanswered.. just only given advice from willing and helpful members. Leaving experienced or dare I say selfish user the freedom they desire, and the noobs that extra bit of support.
After all, this is a community and we are "supposed" to be helpful. And we all started without any knowledge atall. I am eager to hear your responses.. both noobs and pro devs.
What are your thoughts on this?
Thank me if you agree or better still, post your thoughts. Thanks for your patience in reading my rant

No but there should be a stickyed post with all the noob questions. That wouldn't prevent them from getting asked over and over again though.

That's not particularly true, people don't snap at noobs. (Well, most don't and those wo do are jerks)
People snap when multiple times a day the same question gets asked again and again with usually (more or less) exactly the same wording.
So they snap at lazy people who either don't use the search function at all or give up after 5 seconds... not noobs. Neither of both requires the other.
get over yourself man. it's nature.
Neh, no.
However there should be a FAQ like thread that answers the most common questions, and newcommers must be forced to read it before being allowed to post xD
The last part is more or less meant jokingly but such an FAQ thread is cool.
Many other device sections have such one.
No point having a noob thread they refuse 99% of the time to read it .
Pity their is not a better FAQ and Guide as per the SGS2 for them not to read though .
Noobs or anybody that does not want to work within the XDA ethos and rules and wants it all handed to them on a plate does not belong on this developers forum a Samsung phone forum would suite them better .

I think the main thing is a stupid question to some can sound like a smart question to others, and some experienced members here have been a bit insulting to new members on their first post, and I think those people are worse than Noobs who keep getting told to use search function, and yeah there really should be an FAQ written that anyone can understand.

I started an offline version some time ago but never got round to finishing it due to my exams.
Tomorrow being my last exam day (everyone please keep the finders :fingers-crossed: ) I'll renew my work on it
and put it into the Wiki for easy reference and updating.
Then a mod will only have to sticky a post saying to go look in the Wiki.

[Guide/Info] What you need to include to get help

I have noticed that people in the q and a section are not posting nearly enough information in their post or title to get the information they need. This causes people to ask lots of questions and delay getting the answer they need. So this guide will show you what you need to include in your post to get the most efficient answer to your question.
We'll start with the Title:
- Please do not just say "HALP, PHONE BROKE" or "HELP" , etc.
- You need to be precise, and describe what you're looking for in your thread.
Next, the information you need to state before you even get into asking your question.
- The make of your phone. There are many different variants of your device. I9100 G/M/P/T
- Are you rooted/unrooted?
- What rom you are using? And which version? -and- What kernel are you using? And which version?
- Have you flashed any mods/scripts/themes?
- Have you changed DPI? If yes, to what?
- Have you done anything to try to solve your issue? This would be very valuable information.
- Please (if on stock firmware) dial *#1234# and post the results (thanks to fxrb)
Then you can ask your question.
- Do not ask "What rom/kernel/theme is the best?" -or- Something that you have not searched for (it is infact very obvious if you havent)
- Be specific and precise in what you want/need. Do not write a 10, 000 word essay, or a 3 word question.
- Pictures say a 1000 words
Important things to remember:
- Be polite: People never want to help someone who wont appreciate it, or is rude to them. Remember your p's and q's
- Do not bump your thread: It gets annoying and against the rules
This is under construction and will take a bit to include all of the information needed. I know there are lots of more experienced users than I, and would love feedback of what to include. Please do not hesitate to post in the thread or even PM me with information you think needs to be included in this thread.
Stickies
- DO NOT POST A "What's the best ROM/Kernel/Theme?" THREAD!
- [Newbies][Experienced Users][RCs] New members friendly Q&A thread
- [KERNEL][REF][Q&A] Siyah 5.0+[ICS/CM10] 6.0b5+[JB/CM10.1] +DISCUSSION+. NON-DEV!!!
- Australian AU Galaxy S II (help/rooting/updates,etc)
- SGS2 Canadian Thread (Bell/Virgin/Sasktel/Rogers) Root/Unlock/Firmware/Modems/Mods
- New here? READ THIS THREAD FIRST. What Is Recovery & Download Mode?
- Frequently Asked Questions
One more: That's it

The thought is nice... but unless this is stickied (and even then), this thread will fall off the first page, and since the vast majority of n00bs (not new members, but "n00bs" - there's a huge difference) won't search, they won't see it.
Heck, there have been dozens of posts since you posted this that have been terribly short of any information.
But I applaud the thought.
You have to think how them noobs operate. They muck up their phone, stick the symptoms in a google search, and want an answer asap.
So they are not going to spend hours reading rules and stickies or use the search function.
I spent a week reading about stuff for the x10i I had before I decided to do anything to it.That way at least I had half an idea what helpers were talking about when/if I got into trouble.
When I joined this forum the s2 looked a lot more complicated and the forum looked a lot more "vicious"(like give that guy 20xlashes since he didnt do a search).

in relation to search and read before asking questions...
just wanted to share that I've got a nicely setup dualboot with the siyah kernel, RootBox JB 2.1 as my second rom successfully patched with the autopatcher 1.6 and a fully working pdroid. That's it...
Since i have less than 10 posts I cannot thank the developers in their respective threads (at least that's how i get the message). I think this is my 5th post so I guess i never make it to the developers section because i really don't know what questions i can ask and, answers i could give are all answered...
this must be a "new member" problem rather than a n00b one?

Yeah, but don't just get 10 posts just to say "thank you" in the rom Dev section. I van personally say that devs hate this as it clogs up the thread and doesn't add anything to anything. That is why xda has the thanks button, and the devs appreciate that more than saying it. In fact, it you really want to say thank you donate to them. Even if its 1 euro they will be very grateful.

course not it was kind of a semi-sarcastic post, I have more to say than thanks I spent countless hours reading and learning stuff (in general, it is fun after all!) and as far as this forum is concerned (which is really helpful btw!) it's difficult to then act (for the time being!). Example: Somehow I managed to post in a developer's thread 1-2 months ago, first a problem then I found the solution and posted it myself. I then got PMed by someone asking me for help. Only problem is I never got an email notification in spite of having a thread subscription so I didn't bother to check my PMs. As for donating, absolutely.

OK awesome. I'm used to people who just want to say thanks, so I have to mention something like that. But taking a look at your sign up date, of looks like you might be able to post in the Dev section without having 10 posts. I believe if you signed up before a certain date you don't need the posts. And of looks like you might fit in there. I would try it you never know

Sadly I agree to everybody believing that this thread will not be read by those who should do so, sorry. However, if by accident just one out of thousand will read it then there will be 'only' 999 bad questions remaining - a small progress.
For this one out of thousand I would like to contribute something to the information section of this thread. For basic information I often ask people to dial *#1234# and post the result. As this thread is in the Galaxy SII forum this should work, at least as long as people are on stock firmware (probably use this conditionally ?).

Stay away unless he's a very very very good friend!

Not supposed to help here the guy is pointing out the correct thread for help .
But in my opinion it would be far better to either rename General to Questions and Answers or just have an open forum where everything is mixed up under one label making it even harder to find anything .
But it also reads as a number of users would prefer utter chaos and no rules .
Their is a significant rise in bricked help lost IMEI posts all due to complete failure to bother reading the rules or even the basic faqs and guides .
Sh**** if a user cannot post correctly how on earth are they going to flash without bricking .

The polite way is to answer the question, then point out it's in the wrong section, rather than just spam "post in Q&A" to force your post count up, at least 500 of his posts (assuming they don't get deleted) are "post in the right section" with no help at all.
You two forum police will do much better if you offer help whilst informing them they are in the wrong section.
they need to learn that they will get help if they follow the rules

But if you just spam "post in the right section" it just makes you look like an ass, you are showing no desire to help, just boss everyone around and call them out in public, you can at least send them a PM something along the lines of "I have reported your post regarding xxx question to the moderators so it can be moved to the correct section, in future please post questions in the Q&A section."
This post accomplishes the same thing without basically shouting "GTFO YOU NOOB!!!" that is basically what you put across whenever you post in these question threads.

Thats where you are wrong i am afraid .
The posts arrive in General section as users are to lazy to read the rules and far to lazy to bother to read faqs and guides . The majority just want a quick fix and care nothing at all about what XDA was or should be .
Glenbun takes a months holiday and we will still get multiple bad post jeez as i type this there are probably three more bad posts .
End result is a forum that's hard to navigate hard to find anything as the good stuff is hidden under piles of rubbish piling up on a daily basis and that's what noobs complain about what is basically their own mess .
Time in my view for a serious review of the rules and the layout as neither really work .
Multiple experienced users no longer bother to even read these non development forums .

Instead of spaming the thread just report the post and tell the mods to move it to QaA thread. No need to talk about that.
Thread moved to Q&A
Also, if you have any suggestions you can always put them here ---> [All XDA Members] Feedback/Recommendations for XDA. It is read by the Admins daily.

[Q] What is the best ROM for removing bloatwares but keeping the good stuff?

He says it is against the rules to ask about ROMS, but I do not know how to delete a post. There is only one Edit/Delete button.
read the rules. asking that is against them
Read the Korean threads
Korean version of S3 (SHW-M440S).

I am sorry if it is against the rule. I just checked the "Rules" on the top of this board, but I could not find anything that mentions about asking ROM. Which clause do you refer?
Anyways, since you are a senior member, you must be right. I am going to delete this post soon, but just keeping for a few moments to ask about the rule.

What rom best rom posts are rapidly closed by the mods .
Fact is who want a hundred whats the best rom post a week .
Fact is there is no best rom .
Fact is if you are not capable of trying them for yourself then stick with stock until you understand the basics .
Fact all roms have a description and often a large user thread to read .
FACT The rules page one post 2
[READ FIRST] Forum Section Rules
All kinds of Best Rom/Kernel/etc threads are unwelcome, read, research and make your own mind up, as the question is very subjective.

Well "best rom" threads are against the rules due to their subjective nature but I suspect the OP has fallen victim of "not my first language" syndrome.
I suppose a fairer question would be "which roms remove all bloatware yet leave essentials in tact?"

any reason your question is directed at me and not other posters in this thread?

Best thing is find a rom you like and slim it down your self by taking all the bloat out and putting other stuff you want in. That's what I do. I end up with something unique, mine. Then I theme it.

that would turn to a best rom thread in an instant
All right, if it is the rule I respect that, I have no rights to go against the rules.
But in my defense,
Fact is there is no best rom: I did not ask for generally "the best" ROM. I ask for a best ROM that meets some specific requirements. So the answer may not be that subjective.
Fact is if you are not capable of trying them for yourself then stick with stock until you understand the basics: I can try one by one myself, but if someone already had gone through that and knows the answer, why should all the persons go through the same thing. Kind of like answering a person who is asking "Which road is the shortest way to get to the station" with "Don't ask me, try all roads and find the shortest yourself."
Fact all roms have a description and often a large user thread to read: Yes but installing a ROM takes a lot of time, and the descriptions are usually not detailed enough.

I do not mean I am still asking for the answer to my original post. I will look for one myself. These are just my thoughts about your comments. Maybe my questions have been bad, but most of the time, I always get hostile, condescending (such as above "if you are not capable of... understand the basics") responses from XDA. You people here are tech-savvy, but I think you lack some human heart, or kindness. I will stop posting questions form now on. I am sorry for any troubles I have caused.
your intentions don't matter, all these threads turn into people just saying their favorite ROM

Nope just users get sick and heartily tired of the same questions day after day after day .
Compounded by users that just abuse XDA and dont even bother reading the faqs and guides .By reading the faqs and guides first you are one less likely to brick your phone and less likely to post the same question posted yesterday .
Faqs and Guides is where we all start nothing to do with being tech savvy .This is after all XDA development not some make my phone cool forum .

Thread Closed.
Guy, let's remember to treat people how we would want to be treated. We were all new at some point.
OP, best ROM threads aren't allowed because everyone has their own preference and favorite. There is no "best" ROM. Look at features, etc that fit your needs.
