Fell Into The Orange Deal Trap - Hardware Unlock Lumia 800 - Nokia Lumia 800

Hello all,
So Orange currently have a deal on where you can get the Lumia 800 for £160 and I fell for it, thinking I could get it unlocked with ease (seems not to be the case).
It would seem none of the sites (that aren't scams) are able to provide unlock codes, Orange quote a 3 month waiting period and quite simply I feel a bit snookered. Despite Orange saying this, is it the Phone that has to be active for 3 months or just the customer?
Obviously returning the phone with some elaborate technical excuse would be one option but I honestly don't want to - I guess I could sell it and possibly be in pocket but again, I like the phone so would rather keep hold of it but with being on PAYG orange's mobile internet is somewhat of an issue where-as with 3 my current provider I pay £15 pm and get unlimited internet (that's how I like it).
With this in mind does anyone know if there is a hardware unlock for it either via cable, switchbox or simbox etc?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have the 2.3 hardware and the Qualcomm bootloader than you can use NSS to unlock the phone. If not then currently you're out of luck. The 800 on Orange isn't actually locked to Orange, it's locked to T-Mobile and Orange, the Everything Everywhere network. If you're on T-Mobile you can use your sim in the phone (it's also easier to get it unlocked on T-Mobile through T-Mobile). Orange though are incompetent buffoons, I've been trying for over 4 months to get the phone unlocked via them lot.
The rules are, the phone must be registered on the Orange network for 90 days, so day 1 is when you put the Orange sim card in and it registers, 90 days after that they will allow you to unlock the phone (although, laughably they suggest you use a 3rd party to unlock it before that time, even though it's not possible with EE network) but it takes 30 days to get the code. I did that and after 30 days, no code, I phoned them up and they said "it was rejected because the phone wasn't registered with your name and address" even though it was, they put in the order again and said 7 days, 7 days later, no code. Phoned them up again and got hung up on TWICE before finally the guy put the order in again and said 2-3 days, I'm still waiting, should be today or tomorrow but I'm not hopeful that Orange will actually do their stuff. I shoulda gone through T-Mobile.

Thanks dgwebb - seems it might be worth going and finding a t-mobile micro sim then.
JUst rang around a few of the mobile shops and they have said they can't do anything with it at the moment. The hardware is on 2.4 - the one on display was 2.3 (I had my fingers crossed): should have asked for the display model lol!
My only concern is that I do go through a fair bit of internet usage!

Unable to see T-mobile network with Pay As You Go SIM

Greetings all,
I'm having the following issue with a Qtek 1020 I just purchased from Microdirect, sold as SIM unlocked. The phone just doesn't find the network when I turn it on with my Pay As You Go T-mobile SIM. No error message pops up, nothing asks me for an unlock code etc, I just get the message 'No Service' under Connectivity when I select the aerial icon at the top of the screen. When I go to Phone Settings I can see listed under 'other networks' O2 and Vodafone, but no T-mobile. I've tried changing GSM bands in the bootloader and listing networks but to no avail (I switched through 900, 1900 and 900/1800). I have also tried the unlocking tools around this site with no success. I know the SIM works as it asks for my PIN when I switch on and I can also browse through contacts stored on it. I'm wondering if anyone here has any ideas as I'm all out.
Information about my Qtek:
Qtek 1020
ROM version: 4.02.04 ENG
ROM date: 8/24/05
Radio version: A.33.02
Protocol version: 1.3.3
Model No: PW10B1
Please don't let me pull any more hair out :x
Thanks and warm regards,
Neil.

Hi,
Just wanted to let you know you're not alone! I too bought the 1020 from Microdirect and have the same problem. I've tried my t-mobile pay as you go SIM in an i-mate pda2k and it worked straight away. That made me think the 1020 was restricted to o2/vodafone. If its an unlocked PDA why do Microdirect say it won't work with Orange? Where I work we successfully unlocked an XDA and used an Orange SIM, but that was a couple of years ago.
I've e-mailed qtek but have had no response yet.
I've tried the xda developers ROM and while it is cool I still get the problem with the t-mobile SIM, although it says No Signal as opposed to No Service. I was going to try the GSM modes on the bootloader but notice you've tried that already so I won't bother.
If I get any further I'll post back asap.
Mark
Thanks for your reply Mark and now I can rest knowing I'm not the only one having trouble! I too tried the developer's ROM with no luck, although it was nice to play with the extra applications. Funny how Microdirect stated that it was compatable with T-Mobile, when it seems that it is not. I tried my sister's T-Mobile contract SIM and it doesn't work either, but my mum's Vodafone SIM works fine as well as my dad's Pay As You Go Vodafone SIM. It seems like this device is locked out of T-Mobile.
Regards,
Neil.
News from Microdirect
Microdirect have backtracked on the unlocked claim.
See link below for their comments.

Oh well!
Yep I saw that. I decided to keep the PDA because it was such a good deal and I'm trying to go for a cheap contract with Vodafone. Check out http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/phonenetwork-84-1-Nokia_1100_on_Vodafone.html - £8 per month for the first 6 months then £16 afterwards. You get 1000 off-peak minutes per month to landlines and other Vodafone users as well as 250 TXTs plus £110 cash back after 6 months!! Sounds like a bargain to me, let's hope I pass the credit check!
Neil.
I was about to ask the very same question myself. I'm somewhat annoyed that Microdirect never even bothered to apologise or correct the mistake directly when I presented this problem to them last week - their response was to simply "return the item". For a Pocket PC PDA though, it's nice and cheap so like others, I'll keep mine and buy the cheapest possible Vodafone PAYG system that I can.
Well my Vodafone contract was approved and I immediately put the SIM into my Qtek 1020 whilst leaving the bundled Nokia phone unopened. All is well, I set up GPRS etc and my handy new PDA just got handier. Now I can sell this Nokia 1101 phone as it's SIM unlocked... might get 20 quid for it or something!
Regards,
Neil.
Okay well here's another damn issue with this thing... After a couple of weeks happy usage, the SD card slot decides to spit out anything I put into it - it just won't hold a card no matter what. I didn't force the mechanism at all or insert a card too forcefully - it just popped out one day and wouldn't go back in. I've written to Microdirect requesting an RMA, they replied thinking I was requesting an RMA for an SD card so I had to correct them and let them know it's actually the card slot in the 1020 that seems to have developed a fault of some kind. Just wondering if anyone else has ever had an issue with the card slot on their wallaby, so maybe we can say they are notoriously weak or something, or perhaps I was just unlucky.
Regards,
Neil.
Update: My replacement 1020 arrived today and all is well, well done to MicroDirect.
Rgds,
Neil.

[Q] Network Unlock Mozart on Orange

Hi, I've had a look around a few forums and online services but I can't seem to find a way to network unlock my HTC 7 Mozart thats on Orange.
I am an OUK customer, but I'm leaving the UK in 6 weeks so I'd like to keep my handset. My problem with calling Orange is that I didn't get my handset from them but off ebay. I emailed the seller asking if he could ask Orange for the code but he didn't reply. Orange keep telling me no when I call them or go instore - pretty poor service considering I've been with them for 11 years and I'm band 5.
Is there a ROM, update or code that I can use to unlock this and use it for any network?
There are loads of options on the web. Try this one:
http://rebel-xtc-clip.com/htc-imei-unlock-codes.html
Its cheaper not to use Orange anyway to get the phone unlocked as they will charge £20, you can get it cheaper and quicker elsewhere.
I used a service which sent me a code in under 5 mins and cost about £15.00 via Paypal.

Orange are not as helpful as they use to be since teaming up with t-Mobile, I recently gave up a 17 year account with them worth £300 per month and ill take my others with them when they expire too.

[Q] unlock nokia lumia 800 (UK)to all networks

hi guys, does anybody knows how to unlock nokia lumia 800 (uk) to all networks??my is on orange uk and i want to use o2 on it but i have no idea how to do it!thanks
If you have the Qualcomm bootloader you can use NSS 0.50 to unlock it (the post in a few posts down in this forum). If you don't have the Qualcomm then currently the only way to unlock it is to get Orange to do it but you need to have had the phone registered to them for at least 3 months before they will do it (costs £20 or so)

Was the phone you bought new or used? If it was used, how long had it been active on the network? I also bought an 800 off ebay and Orange refuse to unlock it until it's been on the network for 3 months. Yes, I have an Orange PAYG sim, I also got my dad to send me his PAYG sim (which is old) and as long as their computer shows the phone has been registered on the network less than 3 months they will not unlock it.
lumia unlock
the orange lumia was less then a month old, all i done was got a pay and go sim wacked £25 on it then phoned their customer services, told them i wanted a unlock code, they took my imei number and i waited 2 weeks, at no point was i asked about 3 months or anything they did what i requested with no issues at all.
i would recommend giving them another ring if they ask if the phone is use for 3 months say yeah it has been just say somthing like you been living over seas or somthin and if you dont get the result, phone again just tell them what they want to hear thats what i would do
rob
You must have got the lucky CS member that other people get. When you phone up they look on the computer and it tells them when the phone was first used on the network (when the IMEI number was first used on the network that is) so they know when the phone was first used. I've phoned several times and talked to several different people, always the same response "not for 3 months".
lumia unlock
you could try using a t-mobile sim and phone them for a unlock i have read on here that other users have had success with that
rob
It is true that the new network (everything everywhere I believe it's called) is locked to both T-Mobile and Orange so either should be able to unlock it. I only have until the end of August before Orange will allow me the pleasure of using my phone on my chosen network though but I'm hopeful that the DLOAD gets cracked before that so I can unlock it for free.
Orange though recommend getting a 3rd party to unlock the phone when they won't! It's like "we won't unlock it for business purposes, but you can get someone else to unlock it and we'll not get the money for unlocking it, great business plan we have don't ya think?!"

working SIM unlock guide ?

none of the posts in this forum are related to unlocking the phone - it is just a bunch of paid links for a "maybe" working unlock service
where are the applications to do the actual unlocking - why no one is giving proper unlocking tips ?
Please post here only if it is actually working unlock software or guide - NONE OF THE PAID CRAP PLEASE!

Read the other threads. The only way to get an unlock code for an AT&T Lumia 920 is if you are an AT&T customer and push the customer support really hard. There might be some other requirements such as being on a business account too. I am on a business account with AT&T and was able to get a 920 unlocked after spending an hour with the customer support.
Any site claiming to be able to unlock an AT&T Lumia 920 is a scam, plain and simple. Third parties MAY be able to after May 9th.
not a AT&T customer - T-Mobile UK
problem is that here on this site was always the place you can find the tools to free you phone but for Nokia Lumia 920 there no useful posts for SIM unlock.

There is no problem, there just is not any unlock codes for the Lumia right now. Unless you are an ATT customer and no longer under contract you will not be able to unlock your phone. Your best bet is to get a Rogers version which is already unlocked as stock.
As you said all the sites for the 920 are scams and those claiming they have done it are working for or being paid by those same sites.

I believe the point here has nothing to do with carriers, but software plug in to generate code from phone directly.

Nothing exists yet. Only carriers / Nokia has the codes at this point.
flash new firmware
So
Just to get things clear
say I have a locked Lumia 920 (EE carrier UK)
if I will flash a new firmware with NaviFirm+ 1.7 and Nokia Care suite
Like RM-821 GLOBAL WHITE SWAP (059Q5C7)
wouldn't it unlock the sim lock?

Firmware has no affect on the SIM. The SIM controls what carrier you connect to as it is the SIM that you actually are paying for in your contract. So in answer to your question, you can flash till your heart goes poof, it will make no difference. The phone will still be locked to what ever carrier the SIM was programmed for.
yes - flashing it not going to remove the SIM lock -already try few times
I wonder how many of you have heard of JTAG.
Too bad most people dont seem to know how to use it (or can afford that kind of equipment).
I would try to find a "unlocker" who you can actually talk too (face to face). I personally would use an online unlocker too BUT, it just seems weird having asian people try to convinve you they are american citizens, selling %100 authentic unlock codes. I also see bad reviews.
My Advice:
Look for some guy (or girl) who works at a phone carrier station store (one that sells multiple brands of phones). Perhaps they can JTAG Unlock or Factory Unlock your phone.
OR
Go to your phone carrier (not the one locked to the phone) In person, and explain how you have this locked phone but would LOVE to use it on their service. If they refuse, just keep asking "why not?". Try to justify your use on their service (meaning, tell them that they are supposed to be obligated to unlock).
OR
If you are really bent on getting a carrier unlock, go to the locked carrier and then tell them you accidentally purchased the phone second hand, thinking it would work with your network. If they refuse to unlock (under any terms or licence) then ask for a refund. If they refuse, then get mad. They just ripped you off.
OR
Contact customer support of the manufacter of the phone. Explain that both your, and the phone's locked carrier refuse to unlock, and you feel that their brand (the phone's) is really dissapointing to you. Most companies used to give free stuff to sad or rageing customers for free - perhaps you can get an unlock.
In the end: The truth will set you free. Unlocking should be free, but as time goes on, codes become more complex.
Good luck getting a free unlock. Im not saying its impossible, but it is all about time, money, branding, and customer satisfaction. And believe it or not, that all costs money. They (the locked carrier) lose money everytime someone hacks, exploits, or JTAGs their devices, which is why they usually come priced by duration of service or fixed fees.
Hope this helps. My texting hands are tired!

FINALLY!!!
Well, on my 4th call to ATT customer service I managed to get the rep to open a case, he gave me a case number and said I should be receiving an email within a week with my unlock code because I purchased the phone outright and it is not tied to my contract!!! you see, I dont have att service but my in-laws do, for a long time now....So, I called about 4 days ago and said I had a new phone that my children (impersonating a 60 yr old woman) bought for me because they knew how much I hated my current phone, so I registered it on my account and what not, then I explained to the rep that I was traveling to europe and that I needed to use my phone there with a local carrier because I did not want to incur any extra expenses with att, they then proceeded to ask for my IMEI and then to tell me that my phone was not eligible to be unlocked because there was an agreement between Nokia and att, I asked what should I do, that I couldnt believe that I had to purchase a phone in europe, that I was with att because of their 'easy ways' etc......I was transferred to another rep who just explained in detail why the phone could not be unlocked and told me that I should try to "rent a phone"......I initially stated that I was staying in europe for about one week and I was very very nice!, well, they would not help me. TODAY I called with a NOT SO NICE ATTITUDE, i stated that I was traveling to europe and would be staying for maybe 5 months, that I had called previously and was told that I could not be helped but that a friend of the family which was in my same circumstance, had his phone unlocked, so I was calling back because of this, because I had been with att for about 10 yrs and I needed to be able to use my phone, blah blah blah.... well the lady rep told me that my phone was not eligible to be unlocked (after i provided my imei), that I had not met the requirements for this, which were to have the phone for at least 1 year, etc.... I told her that the phone was purchased outright from my children who knew how much I hated the phone THAT WAS TIED TO MY CONTRACT, well, the rep started to get nasty and i did as well, I told her to transfer me to a superior which she did, then, I got a male rep on the phone who was very nice and basically explained to me in depth what this other lady said, I then said that I did not understand how other people that have not been with att for so long have been able to get the unlock code when traveling abroad, and I am not being helped, etc etc.... he then said that because there is an exclusivity agreement and the phone is tied to a contract that I could not have it unlocked, then I explained that the phone that I purchased on the contract was my older one, that the lumia was given to me by my children and that they paid around 500 dlls for it, that to please escalate this to the unlock team who sent my 'friend' an email unlocking his device, then the rep said that he was going to open a case to see if they could help me since i purchased the phone 'outright'!!
......SO, now I just have to wait!! hopefully it works out!!!!
SORRY FOR THE LONG POST BUT ALL OF THIS POINTS TO:
1) Find a friend or family member that is in good standing with att and ask them if you can impersonate them
2) KEEP CALLING THEM!!! You'll get there in the end..... It only took me 4 phone calls!
I will let you know if it works!!! :fingers-crossed:
p.s I just could not wait until May 9th, blame it on my ADHD!!!!!

UK SM-G965F Carrier Unlock?

Friend of mine bought a phone from CEX a while back that was locked to EE, she's now moved to GiffGaff and is wonder if I can unlock her phone for her, its been a while since I used to mess with ROM's and stuff on Android having gone to the dark side (iP6s) as everyone else in the house has one...
Any threads to do this?

does it do the "unrecognized sim" error (the wording is probably different, but similar)?
i ask this because if its locked to a carrier, then youll likely have to employ a third party paid service. Ive used one place twice already and it was seamless
If I power it on with a non-EE SIM in it, I get an onscreen message, "SIM network unlock PIN".
Guessing the £15 unlock code is due then :/
TBF its been a good few years since I last flashed a ROM and used fastboot to poke about with stuff.
