USB GamePad / Controller or Keyboard - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm wondering is there any way to force atrix games to work with some gamepads different than PS.
Today I installed Need For Speed Most Wanted and game is nice but it's hard to drive turning phone or on that little stering wheel.
So I have HD Dock and tried it with Xbox360 wirelles pad with original USB adapter but phone said that it's not compatibile USB device. I tried same thing with Ligitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 and there is no error message about USB Device and adapter blinking when i hit buttons but no reaction on the phone. I know i should use some emulator but none from market is working.
I don't wanna buy PS pad only to play few games so I figured that maybe somehow I can use USB keyboard to play.
So maybe someone have some emulator to remap keys on USB keyboard to work with NFS??
International Atrix, 2.3.4, non rooted, locked. Ofc I can root phone if it's needed.

I'm sure there's apps to remap keyboard.
Also try a wired Xbox controller not the wireless one and not the charge kit.

I just have Xbox360 wireless pad and Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 and I'm trying to avoid buing 3rd pad only for Atrix cause it have no sense.
Thats why I'm trying to deal somehow with what I have.

There is a guide in another forum that was posted a while back on how to edit your rom to have it read the wireless controller as a wired one and apply the same profile to it, I suggest you search for it and try it.

I tried plugging my wired Xbox 360 controller on my lapdock using CM9 (Yes it was open) but it didn't stop blinking... I don't even know if the USB supports other things than USB storage on the Atrix.

USB keyboard and usb wireless mouse working fine so it supports more than memory sticks. As I said before adapter from Logitech pad is not shows as unsupported USB device like Xbox adapter but I have no idea how force it to work. I read that most working pad emulators isn't working on Gingerbread so maybe it's the problem.

If the USB pad in question supports the HID protocol, you could be in luck. Otherwise, you're probably screwed.

Thats right, completely forgot about HID. If I'm not wrong all HID devices should work. I'll check that Logitech pad but as I remember under windows it's discoverable without any Logitech drivers so maybe it gonna works. Otherwise any tweak to remap keyboard to work with games?? I know keys can be remap from /system/... but I don't need to remap keys permanently but only for few games so it can work even on some emulator.
I'm wondering that anyone work it out how play games on external keyboard yet cause it could be very easier than typing on screen or rotating phone and now smartphones are bigger and bigger and it would be very comfortable to play on full keyboard and big screen.

It's easy to add usb support for the joystick/gamepad generic and xbox controller but you need to recompile the kernel avec joystick and xpad module.
I'm working on a keys mapper for the 360 controller and I built a kernel for that but I shared it only at french users on a other forum ...
It's only the kernel build with this source : http://sourceforge.net/projects/atrix.motorola/files/Atrix EMEA/4.5.2A-74_OLE-20/
And 2 or 3 options to get ntfs, cifs, ext4, it is not unified and I have build a little software with java 7 in french to add the command line in it with tegra part and serial as a original.
It works fine on the retail fr 2.3.4 rom.
If you want to try it : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11889182/kernel/Kernel_2.6.32.9_djeman_v1.0.rar
And the original thread : http://forum.frandroid.com/topic/12...adjoystickxpadcifsutf-8ext4ntfs/#entry2078963
I don't found any good mappers for the 360 controller on the market so I'm working on mine.
If others peoples are interessed by it, I will make a translated version and a subject here.

I can confirm that my regular (not wireless) Logitech controller works fine, although not with all games.
Connected to a Lapdock.

heres what i discovered from experience.

Custom ROM (cm9+) and stock roms ...with many kernel changes, I've always had same result.
1stly on the Atrix, unlike most tablets, the USB port doesn't give any power to the device.
I tried an otg cable with no luck so I modified it so power ran through the cable.
I also have a multimedia dock which produced the same result.
I can run and mount usb devices (storage) so I can transfer data or watch films; mounting is aided by a USB host app on the play store.
Any time something like a Xbox game pad is inserted dmesg shows it was noticed but not identified, so it doesn't look like it will work without manually adding the drivers/modules to support the device.
I have a friend with a nexus 7; Xbox control will work on that with a basic otg cable; only need to map the gamepad keys and in some cases such as emulation apps the keys are already mapped.

[Q] USB Gamepad

I picked up very simple usb gamepad (stealseries 1gc) since my usb mouse and kb worked with zero configuration. I was looking for an alternative to the pricey wii controller, and something a bit smaller than a usb keyboard. Unfortunately it did not function out of the box.
Does anyone have any recommendations to get it working? What should I try or do? are there any non market apps that may get this working?
EDIT:
I can imagine that something could be rigged up since this guy did it.

We already have a USB port to accesss.... the question or problem is support for other than thumb drive or key board.....nothing else seems to be suppported including mice and game pads......
i think it might be lost effort trying to figure it out. i thought it might instantly be recognized as HID. My wireless (RF not BT) microsoft mouse worked without any modification, though i didnt see the point to using a mouse.
USB Gamepad Drivers?
There hasn't been any activity in this topic, so i thought i would post thread i came across. Sorry that it could not be a hyper link, but the mods on the site will not allow you to post external links untill you have 8 post or more.

Genius MaxFire Pandora Pro, mini USB PC gamepad

This doesn't work, but I wish it did
Instead of starting a new topic, I thought I'd just post here and ask if anyone's had any luck in this regard. This device is so unbelievably ripe for emulation, and its a total shame that even with a standard USB port, no one has figured out how to use a gamepad yet.
I've got a bluetooth gamepad with 6 buttons, the BGP100. Unfortunately, you need to buy a $10 driver from the market (MMG Gamepro). After all that, I'm playing Street Fighter II and NBA Jam TE like it's 1996
There's another thread regarding the use of Wii controllers via bluetooth. I was able to get the two Datel Retro Wireless Wii controllers off ebay for $26 (I got lucky).
PlayStation controller with a PlayStation to USB adapter
Hi I am a first time poster here, so I hope this gets to the right place.
I use the loox 720 pocket PC with USB host and a PlayStation controller with a PlayStation to USB adapter.
For a drivers I use hidgamep.dll. Copy it to your Pocket PC's Windows folder and enter the following to your registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\HID\LoadClients\Default \Default\1_5\gamepad "DLL"="hidgamep.dll"
OR [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\HID\LoadClients\Default\Default\Default\Gamepad] "DLL"="hidgamep.dll"
if it did not work. But, any unknow HID device pluged in will try use the hidgamep.dll. It´s not problem for me and it´s working fine!
and I use Mobiion MagiKB Lite v1.1 - http://www.mobiion.com/magikblite.html to change the button commands so like when I was playing super mario bros.gun 2 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556557 I change the "X" button to "up" and the "O" to the "space bar". But for the most part I use the controller as a media remote for the core player or windows media player ...
I use Zeno USB Host Drivers 2011 v1.0 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...url
for everything else
PS
I hope this helps

[Q] USB gamepad

how to use a usb gamepad for gaming?
is there any app or particular setting tweak to make it work?
i read in some forum that we should root to use that...is there anyway to use a gamepad as such without rooting?
i have the usb connector with me.
I think it depends on the particular gamepad you use. I have a Logitech Dual Action USB Gamepad, model number G-UF13A. It works completely fine out-of-the-box with no drivers or anything special done to the tab. I've tested it with multiple emulators and games and all buttons work after mapping them correctly.
What game did you use it in?

USB Game controller on android 4.0.3, please help !

Hello,
I am a kind-of-advanced Android user. I know my way well around the os, but i'm not a programmer of any kind.
I recently bought a fairly cheap Yarvik tab (TAB264) running ICS 4.0.3. with a USB host and so far it has nothing else than impressed me !
What i'm trying to do is connect a game controller via USB to play games in emulators. I have a authentic PS3 controller with usb cable and an Xbox controller for the PC, with a USB dingle for wireless connection to the pc / tablet. I do not have bluetooth on my device, but i do have a bluetooth dongle. However, this is not plug and play. If i plug in a keyboard, mouse of mass storage device the tablet will recognise it. With a bluetooth stick this is not the case. I have seen serveral video's where people just plug in their xbox controller and it works, they only have to map the keys in to emulator and they are good to go. In my case, as with the bluetooth dongle, it is like its not recognised.
Is there a way to download drivers for either one controllers, universal controller support or the bluetooth stick ?
in short:
- Can i use the PS3 controller via usb ?
- Can i use to Xbox controlle via usb ?
- Can i install drivers for the bluetooth stick so i can use the ps3 controller wireless (whis would be awesome since bluetooth would be nice)
I hope for a fast response thanks in advance !

I read somewhere that XDA has a special developed driver in case the XboX controller doens't work. I searched the forum, but i cant find it.
Link, andybody ?
Anybody, options, please ?
Really, no one ?

Sixaxis controller doesn't quite work!

Hello!
I recently bought a playstation 3 controller to use with my PC and emulators on my Tablet. I discovered that without root i wasn't able to fully utilize the controller on my tablet.
I got to work and rooted my tablet, bought sixaxis controller and set it up. I am now able to connect with the app and bind keys in the emulator with the app. However when i exit the key-binding menu and begin to play a game the emulator suddenly doesn't recognize any of my button presses made with the app.
I made a touch profile so that i could play but i really want to be able to play without this touch profile.
I've googled with no results for days and i now ask you, what do you think is wrong? And how can i fix it?
Which emulators are you using this with? With some of them you have to set up the bindings in the emulator app.
If you bought a cheap ps3 controller on ebay it will not work. If you buy a legit PS3 controller it will work. Common problem, aftermarket controllers have a slightly different bluetooth profile that its kind of goofy...
If you have a legit controller then it must be other settings!
Lets start from the beginning.
FIRST TIME! If its your first time pairing the controller to the tablet you need to get a USB cable and plug it into the dock.
Start up the app
press the "pair controller" button. This tells the controller which address to connect to. If you dont do this then the controller is looking for a PS3 which your tablet obviously is not.
If it is NOT your first time, or you have used the PC utility to manually change the bluetooth address on the controller
Start up the app
Press Start
Turn on the controller
Remember, you must change the IME (input) from whatever keyboard you have to sixaxis.
Once you see the message in the window say you are paired press the up down left right buttons on the ps3 controller, you SHOULD see things happen on the screen. If not you did something wrong.
If you want to use touch profiles select it from the box
If the above does not work check with the PC utility that your controller is trying to pair to the correct bluetooth address. Note sometimes the sequence is reversed - 12:23:34:45:56:67 can sometimes be 67:56:45:34:32:12. Different applications on the PC work differently.
Make sure you are using the latest LEGIT copy. If you are pirating this software it likely wont work. Check on the market you are updated to the latest version.
If all else fails, contact the developer or check the developers website. I know it works with the prime im running it on mine, works great!
Good luck!
EDIT
Re-reading OP i'd say it sounds like you forgot to change the IME. Maybe check that first

It's a real controller and i did change the IME.
I am primarily using the N64 emulator. When i map the keys without sexaxis controller installed most of the keys are named <unknow>. When i start sixaxis controller i get "DPAD_START" or something similar when i map the keys. (after enabeling the IME).
So the connecting and mapping goes perfect. But somehow when i exit the settings and start to play it wont detect the keys anymore.
It's quite late now, i will test everything again tomorrow to make sure the problem is still there. But i truly don't know what to do.
I don't know about the emulator you're using, but in NESoid, and SNESoid etc to use sixaxis with it, theres an option in menu>settings>Other settings>"Use Input Method" Enable special input device eg bluetooth gamepad - This needs checked for the controller to work see if this is enabled on yours

THANK YOU!
In "other settings" i just had to click that. ****ing awesome m8 Thanks
No prob man I figured thats what it might be frustrated the hell out of me too

Ya its kind of annoying because with sixaxis you can have it set for controller input, emulate keyboard, or sort of a hybrid (like the experia play does with its keys), different apps deal with these things differently, its just a matter of finding a method that works best for the app your using.
Glad to hear you got it working!
Thank you
I only rooted to use the controller, I was getting frustrated

Connecting a wired xbox 360 controller

I tried connecting a pendrive, a mouse and a keyboard through an OTG adapter and they all worked fine.
However, I couldn't get my wired xbox 360 controller to work. The device doesn't show any sign that it's trying to detect it.
I also tried connecting a usb SNES-ripoff controller that I had laying around and it actually worked right away, but half of the buttons on it wouldn't get registered on any emulator I tried.
Has anyone managed to properly connect a wired xbox controller to their Redmi Note 2?
i tried to connecting the wireless one (im not have the wired version), and tried this tutorial, and can't get it work. I think its because original kernel not support it, its lack of xpad.ko module.
and im sure the wired one can't work too, because there was not key layout for xbox controller in /system/usr/keylayout/. yeah we can copy it manual, but our kernel not support.
CMIIWsorry for bad english.
