SGP5 won't come back from the dead?! - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

So I've been trying for quite awhile to bring my player back. I was trying to develop my kernel with it and it just plummeted to it's death eventually. I found a DD dump somewhere of another device and flashed it, which I guess might not have been exactly the right file and now here we stand.
The device doesn't turn on, I don't get any "SAMSUNG" boot logo - nothing. It comes up in windows as
{

}
Now from the research I've done, that should be the "lucky unbrickable" state. The device does nothing, but still shows up in windows. I've tried unbrickable on windows 7, windows 7 via a ubuntu VM, and went as far as to setup a dedicated desktop with ubuntu natively and a windows XP VM. I can only get my player to react on the native linux desktop, but it enters download mode really strangely -
YouTube video of it being "resurrected"-
http://youtu.be/WDclUEyoHFE?hd=1
And after that I lose USB (although the device stays on and powered up as long as I leave it connected). I tried connecting the device to my XP VM which is what everything says to do, and I get "No USB devices connected" in virtualbox. Dmesg gives me "unable to enumerate USB device on port 1, device descriptor read/8, error -71" as soon as download mode initiates.
Every time I've done this whole process before, it's worked wonderfully and you can continue on and flash your bootloaders, then reflash everything else. I've tried this whole process over and over and over and haven't had any success. I also tried a USB jig and it didn't do a single thing.
Can anyone provide ANY insight? I'm really open to anything right now, otherwise it's out for JTAGing. I'm about at whits end with it and I'm out of ideas.
THANKS!

If it "worked perfectly before" in this configuration, your pb is mostly related to Samsung win 7 drivers that are not reachable or "lost".
try to reinstall them and check their availabilty connecting another Samsung device (ask your friends);
note: For me under win 7 , I installed ubuntu as second boot with windows and I forgot the Virtual box trick, that's much simpler and I can learn linux when I have free time...
Good Luck

My windows 7 computer connects fine to my galaxy s3. I just root/recovery/rom/kernel'd it a few days ago from that computer, so everything seems to be working as it should.

Have you tried heimdall on your linux machine? Like this you would not need to disconnect your player at all and you would avoid using virtualbox.

Yeah, I actually just did that. I even went as far as trying the current and past 3 versions of heimdall and it doesn't detect any devices.

Thanks, I'll try that when I get home. It looks like a precursor program to the unbrickable mod but I'm willing to try anything at this point!

has it worked for you ?

Have you installed the heimdall drivers? Like went into the drivers folder, ran zidag and replaced your "SAMSUNG COMPOSITE USB" or something like that with the first driver? That may make heimdall recognize it.

Yep, tried that a few times. I was using heimdall before so the drivers should be kosher for it.
It's almost like once it enters download mode the hardware isn't cooperating. I've also gone as far as trying every previous version of UnBrickable thinking one might work better, but I've gotten the same result with all the versions. Download mode shows up and then it drops all connectivity.

[HELP] Getting PC To Recognize My adb Device!!

I've tried everything. IT WILL NOT recognize my phone.
When trying to install the drivers it says the Authenticode does not have permission. I got the damn drivers directly from Android.com but it still doesn't think its authentic. Because of this, o cannot get the computer to recognize it as an adb device to root the phone.
I'm going nuts now. 2 days with literally 8 to 10 hours of trying with no success.
Can someone please please PLEASE help me?
I was having the same issue. Install PDAnet. Works like a charm. The program installs the drivers for you. You can uninstall the program after you get the drivers working if you'd like.

I had the same issue, turned out it was a hardware bug.

Vista.
I've tried a few of those suggestions and non of worked. Most involved the bcedit trick but its disabled or doesn't exist in the newer security updates.
Vista 32 bits or Vista 64bits ?
in hardware management console what do you see ? yellow question mark ?
Sometimes you need to go in it and find your device to check the HID number and copy it manually in the driver *..inf files to be detect by your OS.
I remembered doing this for my G1 long time ago (years).
If you can, get your hands on another n1 or android device to see if its a hardware problem with the phone, which i doubt. Also try a diff OS.

In case you have Windows 7 you can try the following.

Are you installing the usb drivers using the utility in ADB? If not, delete the drivers in hardware manager, and try installing them with the utility.
I had no problems doing this on Vista, but I prefer to use ADB on Linux.

hey .
maybe i´ve got something for you.
download my file here
install the binaries and then reboot (i said you don't have to, but i think in your case it would be better)
EDIT: is the debug function enabled in your device?
OK, after a few hours and still no success with Vista, I went to storage and pulled out my personal PC I built that hasn't run in a few years thanks to corrupt hard drives.
I spent 4 hours repairing and fixing the hard drives and SUCCESS, I got it to detect it on my Windows XP PC.
NOW! Still not working! In the command prompt, it shows adb devices as one connected but still when I do an adb push nothing happens. Just recycles the adb menu....
Any suggestions?
Your first mistake is using a PC that you know is not working properly. Try a known working pc.

Try using a Linux distribution. Saves a lot of time and headache.
or just reinstall your windows. win7 would be better than vista.

Are drivers required for Odin flashing ?

In order to flash my SGS2 with an KE7 rooted kernel (XWKE7 is the kernel when I purchased my device) I tried to install the drivers for Windows 7.
I have a clean Windows 7 VMware session on my Macbook (I don't have a Windows PC, but everything which works under ̇Windows natively also works in VMware session) , set USB debugging OFF on my Galaxy and plugged it int the USB. Then Windows started with 'Finding device drivers' , but it says 'Mobile MTP device: failed' .
On Mac OSX (10.7) it works normally and Kies connects. Of course, I have connected the USB port to the VMware session when using Windows.
And I installed Kies to enforce device driver installation but that didn't help. Moreover, KIES appeared in RED under W7.
Then I tried again under an XP SP3 VMware session, same issue.
Should I first install the drivers before proceeding to Odin or can I use Odin now ? I am reluctant to try as I am scared for 'partially flashing and bricking' the device.
Of course, I'll close Kies before starting Odin as they don't like each other.
Does somebody have any ideas ?

As far as i know, kies automatically installs the drivers for the SGSii when u install it...
Hmm id just try putting the phone in download mode and plug it into the computer with odin open, if the com7/yellow box shows up in odin id say you are good. If not, then yeah. You are good as long as you don't flash anything , you can just pull the battery from the phone to get out of download mode again WHILE ITS NOT FLASHING anything of course .
Just my 2 cents.
Drivers are always needed, without it how would the phone connect?
Luckily Odin simply will not work without the correct USB drivers .
Usb drivers can be found in the Kies folder in program files .
jje
Thanks. But in that folder C:/Program Files/Samsung/USB Drivers are a lot of numbered / named subfolders.
Which should I choose ?

Thanks, now Windows 7 recognizes the driver and is properly installed.
Then I started the real thing with Odin.
I started Odin, restarted the Galaxy in download mode, connected the USB port and let windows choose the USB , but did see nothing in the Odin screen it was connected. I did dot try further and did not flash as I was not sure whether it is really connected.
I do not see any yellow part of the window.
The phone says 'Downloading...' while I did not start.
So I pulled the battery and restarted the phone in normal mode, so I can just do another try.
Here a screenshot with the phone pluggen in in download mode:

That is *not* shown when in dowload mode, very weird.
Device not connected if no yellow block at ID.Com
Turn phone off .
Reboot PC.
Start PC start Phone go to wireless in settings /USB connect usb connect Samsung usb cable and let windows find drivers exit and follow instructions to download mode .
That fails turn on or if its on off USB debugging in settings applications development .

Which OS you are using ... just keep the windows update on the drivers will be downloaded automatically .. Get some more details of your computer
It seems you have driver problem.
try 'fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version'
if it returns something like 0,3 it means drivers are installed correctly.
if stucks on waiting for device, reinstall drivers =)

I had a similiar problem, though not the same. It was fixed after a reboot of my Windows 7 x64. I think my computer had problems dealing with the USB being connected and disconnected an awful lot. I have no idea if this is where your problem comes from, but it might help if you're like me and prefer leaving your computer on at all times.
Also, if you're quite new to rooting and flashing, and aren't that interested in learning the ins and outs of it, I recomend using Flashtool [1] for flashing to an earlier version of stock Android, rooting your Android, easy booting in fastmode and flashing your kernel. The only use I've found for fastboot.exe is to unlock your bootloader [2] (official guide by Sony Mobile), though I might be missing out on something (while I actually do not believe I have).
Please keep us posted.
As I'm a new member, I can't link directly to outside sites, but I'm going to break that rule to try and help you even further (ie. I did the Googling for you). Replace the spaces below with periods. Links:

Had similar problem!
First couldn't get into fastboot, had problem installing S1 driver. Changed the USB port on my PC and it asked to install the S1 again. Chose the directory where it was and voila.
Now I have to use 2 different USB port for fast boot and flashmode. Little annoying but I got used to it.
Try it, it may work for you.
Reinstalling Windows should be your last step, especially a stable OS as Win 7!
P.s. Why don't you use Flashtool? In it's newer version there's a *.exe (under drivers folder) file that automatically install all needed drivers.

Depending on your skills Microsoft's Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit could help you debugging the problem. Furthermore the error you are experiencing does not seem specific to Samsung devices. Therefor chances are good you get help if you post your problem in one of the many forums run by Microsoft (if you did not already do so). However you will have to do some research to find the right forum, don't ask me please

Yes, looks like.
I do not really understand your question: didn't you try to connect your phone to some other Windows system ? Only then you are able to tell if your problem is related to the phone or the host system or both.
Before debugging with the Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit you should definitely have done the following things:
use another USB cable
use another USB port (no port on hub)
connect phone to another Windows system

I have done everything you can imagine! I even installed the omap4430 drivers! The only thing I didn't try is black magic! [Q] Why cant I find my device?

It connects fine with HTC sync, but I can't find my phone in "my computer". What am I doing wrong? I'm running Vista 32bit, btw.
now sync can't even find my phone. I tried all the usb ports on my tower, it's a fresh install of Vista that is up to date, tried reinstalling the sync program, installed some mtp drivers I found on the Microsoft site. USB debugging on and off, nothing works! and it's the stock Rom, just with some mods. ATT phone btw. any suggestions? mtp stinks btw...... I wanna flash some roms darn it!
May I suggest something to you? Uninstall all your current drivers and also remove HTC Sync, then try to follow this step-to-step guide : HERE or a more complete one HERE. If you need help or precision I will be glad to assist you.

you might have to connect directly from usb like the ports in the back of the pc rather then the ones in the front. also try using a different computer and see if it works or not.
well I just about given up. the issue isn't solely with my computer, as it connects just fine with every other usb device in my house, iphone, gs3, digital camera, etc. so up its an issue primarily with my phone or both my pc and phone. I haven't had a chance to try my phone on another computer yet, can't get mtp working on ubuntu. or maybe it does work, and my phones just messed up. maybe something I did, I need to stop messing with system files . BUT I had an epiphany, ADB over WiFi, I found a bunch of apps, they all mention running apps and debugging, but can they be used as a replacement for adb via usb? can I use adb Wi-Fi to push a kernel and or recovery?
Well I made some headway! I FINALLY got my computer to at least recognize my phone. I did this control panel>add hardware and manually installing the drivers that way. SO now in device manager Android phone (sdk drivers) and HTC MTP device, finally show up. I get a code 10 on both those deives, BUT when I scan for hardware the drivers from the phone begin to install, how ever they fail to install. MY brain is beat from this, can some help give me the next little push to finally ending this debacle!?
May I ask if you have administrator privileges on your computer? On Vista this a prerogative, you MUST be an administrator otherwise the installation will fail.
Click on Start -> Control Panel -> Control Panel window opens click on the Uninstall a program (If you are using the Classic View of the Control Panel, then you would double-click on the Programs and Features icon instead.) -> The screen contains a list of the programs installed on your computer, locate everything starting with HTC and uninstall all of them.
Make sure your phone is not plugged in. Reboot your computer.
Download this file containing the Vista 32bit drivers. Put this file on your Desktop.
Plug your phone. Use Device Manager to install the driver.
Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
In the Tasks pane, click Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
In Device Manager, locate the Android USB or MTP Device for which we want to install the driver.
Right-click the device, and then click Update Driver Software.
Click Browse my computer for driver software, click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, and then click Have Disk.
In the Install From Disk dialog box, click Browse, locate in the file you just downloaded an androidusb.inf and then click Open.
Follow the steps in the Update Driver Software Device Name dialog box to update the driver.
Reboot your computer.
Lets see the results.
NoobDude i may be beating a dead horse here but Ubuntu 13.04(even in the beta which i use as a daily os) has mtp out of the box maybe try that and install sdk, java , adb fastboot.
if lucky thirteens suggestion doesn't work, I'll try that next. cheers gents!
Lucky thirteens post didn't work at all, when i tried to update the drives I would get an error. Either that the driver wasn't compatible or the the current driver was up to date. I haven't tried updating to Ubuntu 13.4 yet. BUT, I kinda made some headway again. After several reboots and trying different things I get this, what you see in the first picture. SUCCESS!, Oh wai....(refer to second picture)..... When i plug my phone in via a USB (on the back of the computer), i get NOTHING. Sooo. One X+ FOR SALE! :crying:

There is a universal driver from Koushik Dutta (dev of CWM). This worked on my Win8 x64 PC (nothing else would).
At least it shows my device when I type adb devices.
See if that works.
Google for it. I am not sure if I am allowed to attach the file here - hence not attaching. I also have forgotton / not saved the link. It was in his google+ post...
See if that helps
Okk the link was first when I googled .
