Does anyone have this - SGP-UC3 USB Host Adapter Cable for Xperia™ Tablet S - Sony Tablet S

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have the SGP-UC3 USB Host Adapter Cable for Xperia™ Tablet S? I know it will allow the connection of cameras, flash drives and maybe other usb devices.
I tried with a USB hard drive but I guess the drive needs too much power to work!
Does anyone know if 64gb and 128gb flash drives work with this cable and the Xperia S Tablet?
I am also wondering what other USB devices Xperia Tablet Owners have used?
Thanks!
Ofiaich

So I have the adapter and use this to camera, to connect USB sticks and push data back and forth. I have also rooted in the mode under R5 can also use a UMTS module stick Recommended such an adapter .. PTP is supported, FAT32, FAT16, exFAT ---- think unfortunately no NTFS that is only rooted in the mode with an app ..

When running on Android, is it possible to connect a
SD card reader via Touchpad's USB port?
(16GB or 32GB SDHC card containing music and video files)
THanks!
Unfortunately, couldn't get it to work myself.
I tried the same setup I use on my SGII, OTG usb cable + USB key.
It might work with a power source. The USB otg cable alone doesn't work. If you get a USB splitter cable, and plug the extra end into a power source it should work. But ... if you have a power source like a computer you can just plug the TouchPad and card reader both into the computer, and transfer the files that way.
The only way to make it work on the go would be with a battery powered USB power supply and have both the otg cable and the splitter ... not very convenient.
In a pinch I have used the otg cable on my phone, then transferred the file over Bluetooth to the TouchPad while in Android. Again, not very convenient, but it worked.

this is setup that is cleanest that the other forum uses..
http://www.amazon.com/Solar-Powered-Battery-Charger-Adapter/dp/B006DVMW92
plus the otg cable..
no messy cable tangles..
besides solar charging, the TP's charger will charge hub
then mount it..
unmount when done..
As far as I know connecting a card reader needs the USB host mode and this is not available in Android 2 (http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/usb/host.html). Also the hardware has to be capable of that (maybe TP is). We have to wait until ICS is available on the touchpad.
I'd like to know if there can be more done w/ the TouchPad... i.e. more USB host support for other things (external hdd, controller etc)

[Q] Connecting to external HDD

I was wondering whether I could connect an external HDD (powered) to XTZ. Do I need an OTG cable or just a plain microUSB to USB adapter will do the job?
OTG cable, like on all other Android devices with Micro USB.

Thank you. Well bought me an OTG cable. Seems to recognise keyboard, mouse and usb flashdisks but whenever I connect an HDD, either selfpowered or powered through the usb port, it is always recognised as damaged USB storage… then asks me to format it. In case I choose to format it nothing happens. I should mention that this happens with FAT32 HDDs too. Isn't XTZ capable connecting to external HDD?
Did you solve the problem? I going to buy XTZ but for me is essensial chance to connect external HD
It is possible and works, but it only if the HDD has an own power supply.
No I didn't manage to access ANY type of HDD self-powered or not and any kind of format i.e. Fat32, exFat, Ntfs etc. I only managed to access usb sticks and input devices (mouse, keyboard).
I am rather disappointed from this issue…
Can I charge my cellphone if I connect it to the tablet with the usb host Cable ?
Using the tablet as an external battery for emergencies. Thanks

Which one did you buy? I bought a pack from amazon but none (of the 4) worked. I only tried using it to sync a ps3 controller though.

I have the 16GB WiFi version and I have no problems at all reading external media. Here is what I did:
Before starting I reformatted the HDD with "exFAT" file system using a regular Windows PC. I did a full format, not the "Quick Format" option. This took a looooong time to complete with the big drives. In the XTZ I installed "ASTRO" File Explorer from Google Play to perform the file operation. After that I was ready to go. I already tested with copying a 20GB file and it worked fine.
The same procedure worked for:
- 32GB micro SanDisk
- 64GB micro SanDisk
- 128Gb USB pendrive (OTG cable needed to connect)
- 300GB USB external HDD (OTG cable + powered USB-hub needed to connect)
I hope this helps

You are going to need a USB 1.x/2.0 Female Type A to Male Type Micro-B adapter cable.
The XTZ's USB port does not supply enough amperes to power most portable USB HHDs, so when selecting an HDD, make sure it requires very low amperes.
The WiFi mouse's Windows-based adapter will not work with the XTZ unless the mouse's manufacturer can provide Android drivers. You need to check with the manufacturer to see if they have any, but I highly doubt they have Android drivers. You will have better luck using a Bluetooth or USB mouse.
You can use a non-powered or powered USB hub to gain more USB ports. A powered USB hub would be a better choice because it would eliminate the problem of powering a USB HDD. Most powered USB hubs are powered by AC adapters, but you can find some that are battery powered.
There are several discussions in this forum about USB MHL to HDMI adapters. Search the forum to find out which adapters work with the XTZ.
You cannot charge a device using a charger through a USB hub. You will need a powered USB hub specifically designed for charging devices.
Right but the question is does the Xperia z tab can be charging the some time when is connect to tv via hdmi?

Try using a Micro USB Host OTG Y-Cable with Micro USB Power for Sony Phones & Tablets from Valarm, which they say has been tested with the XTZ SGP312.

[Q] MHL & OTG simultaneously on Xperia Z Ultra?

I bought a USB hub which sports an MHL and OTG (See attached) .
On my xperia z ultra the MHL works fine but when I plug the airmouse into the OTG the phone doesn't detect the mouse.
I tried to unplug the MHL (removed HDMI cable) and use only the OTG feature but the phone doesn't detect the mouse. The phone doesn't detect any USB storage device as well.
The MHL and OTG feature is a built-in option in Xperia Z Ultra so it should output as MHL and and detect airmouse at the same time, but it doesn't work.
Can anyone please help me how to get this done?
Awaiting for replies anxiously

I would honestly go with chromecast, it's your best bet to use the mouse as well.

The chromecast will not support the airmouse that I have. There is a small usb donlge for the mouse which needs to be connected to chromecast. I see there is no option to plug a USB device into chromecast, right?

I think he's suggesting that you connect your mouse to the phone and then cast the phone screen to the Chromecast.

I already mentioned that the airmouse is not detected by the phone; if it was, the issue will be solved because the MHL already working fine and output to big screen tv is fine.
My questions are:
a. Whether it is possible to use MHL and OTG at the same time?
b. My phone xperia z ultra is not detecting any usb devices such as pen drives, regular pc mouse or the airmouse. How do I get that to work?
Further update: I was able to get the OTG working and the phone detected the airmouse, however I could only use either of the MHL or OTG but not together. Any ides how to get the MHL and OTG work together?
How'd you get the otg to work? I bought 2 of them. But my Xperia Z ultra isn't detecting it.

Its easy. First of all OTG doesn't require any additional power to be connected to the HUB, you need to remove that. Second, plug in hub into the phone, then plug the USB device into the OTG USB slot of the HUB, then keep pressing the switch on button until it becomes "Blue". Please make sure you don't have any external power connected to the adapter at this point.
No I was talking about otg to the phone. I had no issues with Samsung but my phone doesn't detect the cord when I plug otg in it says USB connected, but when I hooked up the ps3 controller it had issues of not being recognized.
You can't use both MHL and USB OTG features at the same time because Sony Xperia devices (including the Z ultra) use 5 pins MHL connectors as opposed to Samsung devices (since the Galaxy S3) that use (not standard) 11 pins connectors for this very purpose (which is why most MHL cables require the use of an adapter on these)

Connecting z2 to HMDI

Hallo every one
I was at the market want to have cable to connect my z2 to my TV with HMDI
So there was to way to do this
1 from HMDI to micro USB
2 frome HMDI to normal USB and then cable to micro USB
And I like the choice nbr 2 because I can connect my laptop too
But Iam not sure if my phone will work
Did any one know about this before I buy it because it's costs 40€ and I must be sure.
many thanks.
Xperia Z2 has MHL so if you buy micro USB > HDMI it will work. (I don't know if it works on custom roms but on stock it should work properly).
USB in laptops/PCs cannot sync video due that video output is from graphics card and USB has nothing to do with graphics card.
Something else is if you have USB type C and if manufacturer guarantee that it can sync video.
Next case, that is price. 40€ for that? You will overpay! You can buy that for about 3€ on Aliexpress
Ah, but his Z2 is HMDI so it will never work

Haha xD
Bumping: When buying an MHL adapter, make sure it's not made specifically for samsung devices, because there's no cross-compatibility. Talk about "standards".
PD: I tried buying one from gearbest. The package never arrived. Such is life in Bolivia.
Bumping again: someone knows how to connect MHL and OTG simultaneously on Z2?
Thanks in advance
No. It's not possible. At least not with the Z2.
The USB port, and the chipset only supports either USB mode, or MHL (hdmi) mode. Not both at the same time.
It can however charge the device while in MHL mode.
Even though there are multi port adapters out, the same thing goes. Either or. Not both.
Some other manufacturers devices DO support both modes simultaneously, but only through the special port and a special adapter for that particular device. I.e. Samsung 11 pin port for some galaxy variants.
If you're interested in keyboard and mice, there are Bluetooth capable keyboards and mice out there. That'll work.
For storage I'd suggest using a larger SD card in the SD card slot.
