[Q] Notification Sound - HTC Droid DNA

My sounds are set up but,
1 There is no sound when I receive incoming texts and/or email.
2 When I do receive incoming gmail they do not show in the notification drop down.
3 The only way to see the emails is to open the app and then refresh the page.... and then they load.
Any help would be great.

You have to go into the app you want to change the notification for..
Ex. Open up your Google mail. Open up the gmail setting by pressing the 3 dots on the bottom right..press settings..then press the Google account you want to edit. There you will see the notification setting along with the Show notifications when email arrives.
For text messaging the same rule applies. Open up Messaging go to Menu..then Settings.

Everything was set as is necessary.
Still no sound on delivery and no incoming mail seen until the refresh button is hit.
I'm missing one or two small steps somewhere.

are you sure you turn off? do you have another SMS notification installed? like SMS pop up,if dont just make sure disable in settings on default notification sms app.
uninstall and reinstall GO SMS
When you turn off the setting hit the back button NOT the home button. Pressing home will not comfirm the setting.
Do this and I can almost guarantee that it will work.

I did that still nothing, the settings are saved when I go back into the settings portion of the default SMS app

Disable vibrate when receiving email

Hi all,
Firstly great support on here!!
I'm having an issue with my work exchange email. I get a vibrate every time i get an email.
I have it set to silent tone so there is no sound, but it still vibrates!!
I have my phone on the desk beside me at work and it's going nuts (i get a lot of emails).
The Gmail app has the option to disable vibrate and only have the notification text, which is exactly what i want for the exchange account.
Hoping someone here has a fix!
Email --> Menu --> Settings --> Select account --> Scroll down and uncheck vibrate?
Hi again watsa, fix this and I'll owe you lunch!
I don't have a vibrate option there? under the section 'Notification Settings' in the location you said i have:
Email Notifications (checked) Text says "Notify in status bar when email arrives)
and
Select Ringtone (i have this set to silent)
I don't see anything that mentions vibrate at all.

I dont have exchange email configured but gmail. I can see vibrate option in there with gmail. Try and setup gmail account in email app and see if you have that option? Else could it be new in recent firmware?
You mean you have your gmail account in the standrad email client, or in the actual Gmail app?
The gmail app has the option to disable vibrate.
I'll add gmail to the standard email client and see.
Maybe the new firmware might help.
I have gmail configured in email app
Really? I just added my gmail account to the email app.
Went to where you said and only had those other options.
I'll check after upgrade and see.
Hope it's there.
Thanks again watsa.
yes the option is definitely there on LFB. Don't remember if it was there before. Sorry you will have to update and see
Yep, its there on this firmware.
Thanks!
You can find it in settings - sounds - uncheck sound and vibrate. The only solution.

Seconded. The stock Email app uses the notification settings from the default "root" settings. It doesn't have the ability to set vibrate and sound independently. Bit of a shame, really.

It does on the latest update (LFB). You can set it seperate for each account. It is a new feature but no one responded to it when I said it.
Yep, latest firmware has individual settings.
Life saver, now my phone isn't annoying me all day.

[Q] Separate notification sound for text message?

I hate that every notification except email has the same sound. How can I change so that text messages have their own notification? Right now text messages and all other random notifications share the same ringtone so I never know if I got a text message or something else.

It doesn't work. If you change it, it changes it for all notifications. Not just texts.
I just figured it out.

I had been looking for this setting for days now and I just stumbled upon it. When you are editing a contact go to the bottom of the contacts information and hit the "ADD ANOTHER FIELD" button. There you will see the ability to add the "Message Tone" field as well as specify a "Vibration Pattern" if wanted. Not sure why they didn't put the Message Tone option on the contact by default.
Tony
Mind blow.
Dude, just set any ringtone for notifications via phone settings - it'l be your sms ringtone AND for any other applications having opportunity to create notifications you should open those applications, go their settings and find there option notifications and change notifications sound directly for that application. Logic!
Binrob, I get what you are after because I did a google search for the very same thing. No one here seems to get it.
What happens is all these other apps utilize the same NOTIFICATION sound as your text messages (like Facebook, or playing back-and-forth board games). Binrob and the rest of us want our TEXT messages TO BE DIFFERENT sounding than all the others. I don't want to look at my phone every time i get a notification, but i do want to look at my phone every time someone texts me. There doesn't seem to be a way to customize SMS/TEXT to its own notification sound. Android needs to fix this.
You've answered everyone's question! This should show up #1 on Google search!

Has there been updates since to change to separate notification for all contacts?
I get this issue and NEED them to fix as well! I don't want fb messenger and text messaging and any other notification to have the same sound. I want to know what app the notification is for WITHOUT unlocking and looking at my phone. Also, on my s5 I was able to change my led color for specific apps. If it blinking red I knew it was a text. Blinking green fb message. Blinking blue fb notification. Etc! Please add those back!
You CAN set the sound for messages, go to settings, notifications, advanced ......... choose messages, more settings (at the bottom of the screen), and the next screen is where you change the sound that is made. Not exactly user friendly though!
I think the answer is as simple.as: go to your message app, top right hit: more, Then go to settings and set whatever ringtone you want to have under notifications. I guess this should be what you are looking for.
Cheers

notificaton tone in message+
The comment that you can set message tones In contacts is correct except that apps like message+ , at least on the Galaxy , ignore that and use their own tones
I just found it....
open messages on the right top corner click there and pick customize ando under tones and there u can pick whatever ringtone for only SMS....
FOR SAMSUNG S9/S9+. To have a specific sound for you messages, go to messaging app/setting/notifications/general notications must be off/emergency alerts must be off. Go to new messages and choose your preferred sounds.

How To Turn Off Gmail Notifications With Notification Extender?

How do I turn off Gmail notifications on the watch with GNE?
I just want them to show up with the stock Gear Notifications.
Someone? Please?

In Notifications for Gear S (maybe it's not GNE, don't know), you can select what apps to have their notifications sent through Notifications.
For that :
1. start Notifications (on the phone)
2. press the "wrench" icon in the upper right corner to enter settings
3. Uncheck "Read Gmail Notifications"
If it's still showing notifications, you can use 2 other methods :
A. filter by notifications text
- in the settings use the "Do not read notifications containing ..." and add whatever text you know will always show up
B. selective notificationns
- in the settings activate the "Do you want to be asked for new...", this will make the app ask you for each new notification type. When the dialog shows up (when you get a notification from a new program) you can choose to send the notification or to ignore it
In case GNE and Notifications are not the same app, you should look into GNE's settings and see if it has similar ways to choose what notifications it sends.
But, then I won't see Gmail notifications at all, instead of only seeing them once, versus twice, which happens now with GNE.

If you only disable GNE to send the notifications and leave the standard Gear S notifications active for Gmail then you should get just one notification (the standard one).
If you instead want to get the notification just from Notifications Extended, well, i for one didn't manage to do that.
When i disable notifications for Gmail from the standard Gear S notifications then the Notifications Extended doesn't send the notifications either. I might have something configured incorrectly though, haven't played too much with the settings.

Gmail - cannot set custom sound?

I've noted in the Mate 10, but it's likely to be an Oreo thing, I can't seem to set a custom tone for new mail notification. In the Mate 9, it was under settings, my email address and inbox, sound and vibrate. That option is in Gmail under Oreo on the Mate 10 but the option to set a custom tone is missing...am I missing something?
No-one? Can anyone confirm what I'm seeing??
OK so I guess no-one uses Gmail?
Its changed in Oreo. Now there's a section in settings, after you click your email address called "Manage notifications". Tap on this. Then, under the section saying "Email Normal Allow these notifications to make sounds", which should be 'on', tap on this. You can set the sound in the next section.
Jeez. Not one guide on interwebs saying how to do this!
I use Gmail and cannot separate the tones from texting and gmail. I do not have the section saying "Email Normal Allow these notifications to make sounds". Anyone have a solution?
Dump the G-mail app (disable & clear data under "Apps") and install K-9 Mail. Everything's configurable (and I do mean everything!), works brilliantly, is lighter in weight than the G-mail app, and is completely free.
Here is how it is done...in the Oreo world...
Open Gmail > top left hamburger > settings > General settings > Manage notifications > Long press on the word "Mail" not the toggle itself but right on the word, and another secret, hidden, stupid, settings menu will open and it's in here where you can choose a separate tone for email as well as turn on the notification light for Gmail.
Thank you. Your solution worked well with my Huawei Mate 10 Pro in Gmail and Messanger
Couldnt find any solution to change the notification sound for twitter. Any help is welcome. I followed the same steps as mentioned above.

Sorry, don't get it. Can you make a screen dump of the location where to long press.
I need the option to select sound while editing the labels

It is exactly as I stated in my original directions...it could not be any clearer.
Once you tap on "Manage notifications" it will take you to the screen "App notifications" then you long press directly on the word MAIL which is directly under your email address.
You can also long press on the other "words" listed there for different notification settings. The words are to the left of the screen...the toggles are to the right.
Also, if you're looking to be able to set a different tone based on a label you created...I don't think that is possible.
FWIW, it Doesn't have to be a log press. just touch the mail part.
Mine says "Email" but great, it worked.

Thank you so much! I've had my Huawei P10 for almost a year and couldn't find where to add custom notification to Gmail. It's so frustrating when they do stupid ish like this because pretty much every other explanation says go to manage notification but not detailed enough to say click on title. I had the Huawei P6 and was impressed with Huawei enough to make it my go to brand but this ish frustrated me enough to consider another brand.
Well it just changes the default notification sound for me.
