What is the best DLNA app for Nook Tablet? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

This is my SECOND week experiencing android. I have a Samsung TV and I couldn't live without AllShare. I also have an iPad and I couldn't live without AirVideo either.
Unfortunately, they do not make AirVideo for Android. I have tried Emit, Qloud, BubbleUPnP, and two different VLC streaming apps and all of them were choppy. I have tried with a 5 GB video file and with a 700 MB video file and its still choppy. Did anyone have luck with any of these apps or with another DLNA app?
If anyone can tell me how to get AllShare working on my CM10.0 Nook Tablet, that would be perfect.
By the way, Netflix works just fine.

Try using Skifta and MXPlayer that works well for me.

Plex makes an Android version, but I'm pretty sure you have to have the Plex Media Server on your computer as well (easy enough to set up). I use that with my Roku, and can use it with both of my Xbox 360s; but I've never tried the Android app.

+1 MxPlayer. I use ES root explorer to browse the network, select a file and play it with MX. almost never choppy on 700mb files. Or even 1.4. Haven't really tried higher though.

Thanks
Thanks,
I will try skifta and plex

You might want to give Twonky and iMediaShare a shot if you haven't already.

Yes iMediaShare is a good upnp server for Android.

what are you trying to do?
if you are trying to play files on your computer streamed to your nook.
es file explorer or vlc and windows smb file sharing works fine as suggested without extra steps.
or perhaps installing a dnla software server on your pc like tversity and using a dnla compatible client like xbmc for android.
if you trying to share media files from your nook to your tv via dnla then imediashare sounds about right. I
there is also orb server (x86) free and orb client for android. (not free)

[Q] Can someone recommend a good VLC streaming app?

I want to stream AVI files from my computer to my Nook. GMote doesn't work with AVI. I downloaded VLC Stream and Convert. I fired it up, pointed it at my desktop and it just worked. I was very impressed with it except that it streams all my videos in 4" X 4". I'm sure this would be great on a phone, but I've got 7" to work with here.
Does anyone know of an app that will reliably stream media in full screen? I'm willing to pay for an app that does this. I just need to stream over wifi when I'm at home.
I use CifsManager to mount windows shares, and then RockPlayer Lite to play videos off those shares. It will stretch to full screen, but unless you format the video correctly it's stuck with software decoding.
GMote plays AVI for me, do you have rockplayer?
No Rockplayer. I don't want to have to mount shares. It's an extra step. VLC Stream and Convert works perfectly except it's small screen. I open the app, click on browse, browse to the file I want to play and click play. It buffers and plays with no issues except for the screen size.
There's no extra steps, you browse to the avi you want to play in gmote, click it and rockplayer opens it.
I tested out the GMote Rockplayer combo you all suggested. It worked very well, except I can't seem to fast forward and skip around inside of videos. Is this something I"m doing wrong or is it a limitation of this solution?

I think it may be a limitation. If there's a fix, I don't know it. Rockplayer by itself allows skipping around but youve got it streaming the video through GMote and I doubt that Rockplayer is communicating to GMote.
I got this to work with VLC Stream and Convert. There are options buried in the menu to make the output full screen. I love it. I have to start VLC on my computer ahead of time which is kind of a pain, but I'm at home anyway when I'm doing this. Once I do though, I can stream any of my media and also fast forward, rewind and skip around in it whether in portrait or landscape. Highly recommend this.
I was hoping to provide a solution using orb or Androrb, but I tried with mplayer, rockplayer, and stock player with no luck.
Gmote/rockplayer works for me, but no ff as mentioned. If the v player dev could support the nc it may have potential.
To the above poster, you could use teamviewer to log in to your pc and start the vlc stream.

I suspect that Gmote/Rockplayer doesn't have FF because it's not accessing the stream directly. Gmote is accessing the stream and forwarding it to Rockplayer. I'm in my house when I'm using my NC and I have a VLC shortcut on my toolbar so it doesn't take but a second to start it. I could probably configure VLC to start the web interface part automatically when Windows starts, but I'm too lazy to look into that right now.

Does this require you to be on the same network as Said PC for it to work, ie, can I stream Video from home PC when I am in another area, like the mall, or your moms house?

VLC convert and stream allows this, yes.
vlc stream and convert works fine, you just have to mess with the settings, make sure video playback width is set to 1040 or screen width
When I try to use S&C on my Nook (CM7), it tells me "buffering" for about a minute, then tells me it can't play, too many errors. Installed it on my Inspire HD and it works great. Any ideas, anyone?

I tried the same thing, works great in rooted Eclair but not in any of the CM7 versions. I think it is because there is no DSP working in CM7, but I could be wrong.

Will XBMC be ported over to the Android as it is for iOS?

Would love to get XBMC on my NC. Do you think the guys at XBMC will do this? They did it for iOS.
I know for a fact they are working on it. It is harder for them than iOS so its going to be a long process.
With that said, the Nook Color doesn't have the power to do much with XBMC. You can already max the Nook with Mobo Player.
The best option for the Nook Color is the XBMC fork Plex. It transcodes the video to work better for the device. I use it almost daily.

Thanks! I wish I could watch my media via XBMC on my Nook. I still haven't found a way to stream my .avi files directly to my Nook. I got it to work for a little bit but can't get it to work again. I used File Expert App, Network Setup, and Rock Player. It worked twice but will not work again on my Nook. Weird thing is I can get it to work consistently on my China Epad.
I tried Plex but don't like to leave my computer on to do the transcoding.

Movie streaming app?

So I went to best buy to test out the tab and I was looking for some movie streaming apps and couldnt find any like the ones I have on my phone? Can this not stream any movies yet?

If u mean that u want to stream a movie from a PC, then i recommend Gmote 2. Really it's the best app for streaming music or videos from your PC.
HBO Go please! I'll be dancing for joy when an app is compatible with HC
tv show stream is good too
Plex is what you want. Direct transcoding from PC to tablet. Max is only 5000mbps bitrate but still very nice.

unfortunately tv show stream and movie stream were pulled from the market and arent being supported anymore but I have the APKs and tried them on my tab but when I try to open the links it says I need Xvid. I thought xvid was supported by the tab?
Amazon Prime works for streaming movies and whatever else they offer. I've only dabbled there, but the first 10 minutes of Highlander came through great on the tab.

I didn't think either were reliant on the decoding capabilities of the device, since it plays in the browser, but I've always had mobo player installed. Maybe try that?

+1000 for this. since getting my android phone, I have tried various methods for streaming from my home server. my buddy has the air media for his icrap which made me search even harder for a solution on my tablet. plex super easy to setup, I had an issue with port forward but that was because my router and UPnP would not let go of the port to enable the port forwarding.
all around great app for streaming.

Also can anyone compare this to playon? Mainly the ability to rewind or fast forward the stream because playon can't do this and according to playons admins on their forum android is not capible or some crap which I'm sure is not true because Netflix and YouTube can manage to do it.

thanks man I had mobo but never actually opened it up. Your post made me look into it again and when I opened mobo it downloded the codec needed. Nice! now movie stream and tv stream work great. Too bad its unsupported for updates anymore.
Loved these aps and with a mega video login I was golden.
For streaming your own stuff:
UpnPlay app to stream Video and a videoplayer app for playback.
Firgured out I can attach a HDD to my router and fire up a router mediaserver - accessible from everywhere. But beware, your Server/Router MUST support video streaming else it's a no go. And don't forget to turn upnp on.
You can also use Twonky as a server tool for windows/linux.
For 720p you don't need a speedy WLAN, 2mb/s are enough. For 1080p it's ~3-3,5mb/s. So every NAS capable router should do it.

what is the best way for me to stream. Mp4 movie files i converted with handbrake pc version to my galaxy tab? what is everyone using? Thanks
Plex is amazing. I have it running on my WHS and stream MKV files over both Wi-Fi and 3G with no stuttering. It displays movie descriptions and episode descriptions for TV shows. It also support audio with album art. It's pretty slick and impresses everyone I show it to. Both PlayOn and Orb Live work also but they're not nearly as elegant. PlayOn and Orb Live support Hulu without stuttering if that has any value to you. BTW, none of them are free.

If you already converted the movies simply use ES file explorer to access a shared folder on the PC. ES file explorer is a crude app to use and is not tablet optimized but at least you dont have to run a streaming app on your PC which take up alot power to run. No reason to re-encode the movies you already re-encoded.

For outside the network I guess I would use Plex. Inside, no way. Plex uses way too much CPU resources on even on high end PCs. It takes alot to re-encode movies in real-time. No reason to stress your PC when you dont have to. Besides, you can access shared folders with your laptop as well you know.

I use to used media player 11 to stream on my laptop, but plex completely changed that. And no, it does not use that much resources to run, I have a Q9300 with 8 GB of ram, and it uses maybe... maybe 2% of my memory and nothing on the processor. I even did a stress test and had it stream to my desktop, laptop, and tablet while playing videos using XMBC on WHS with DTS @1080p... no hiccup.
So no, it does not stress my PC.

Upnp/dlna Android app capable of streaming mkv

Hi all, would of put this in android general but can't seem to see it :-\
Anyway, I'm looking for the above, a uonp/dlna compatible app that is capable of streaming mkvs to a ps3.i can play them on my phone via mx player and the like but when it comes to streaming it fails, unsupported or corrupted data shows in the ps3 whenni know for a fact it can stream Mkvs. I have tried airsyncs airplay option, skifta and joses media server and none seem to work, anyone any ideas or other options I can try?
I'm running ParanoidAndroid and Siyah/twrp if that's any help.
Thanks in advance

hey had this problem a while back, after a lot of experimenting with different apps, it turns out none of the apps could successfully "beam" a mkv file, even if both the phone and xbox can support the file.
The workaround that i finally got to was to host a media server from the phone, and access the mkv file via the server. APP: Pixel-DMS.
Works great on my xbox !! should work on the ps3 as well
BubbleUPnP might.

Im looking for something that works the opposite actually, Does anyone know of an app that will allow streaming from a pc to my galaxys3?
I used to use allshare when i was running official samsung rom, but now i use Paranoid android and unfortunately cannot use it anymore.
I use a program called ps3 media server, which allows any content even MKV files to be streamed, ps3 media server is veiwable on ps3, xbox 360 and i could see it and use it on allshare.
now all i need is an app to allow me to pick up this media server on my paranoid setup.
any suggestions? thanks. :fingers-crossed:
I use PS3MediaServer in conjunction with Serviio to steam to my Xbox and phone.
1. Download PS3MS and Serviio on PC
2. Stream to gaming console. For streaming to android, download Skifta or ServiGo on Play. You can manage your Serviio console from your droid using ServiiDroid.
MKV works flawlessly.

PS3 is not able to play MKV natively without transcoding. You must use a transcoding server like PS3 Media Server, Serviio, etc.
Odp: Upnp/dlna Android app capable of streaming mkv
Yes i know, i am using media serwer on my laptop and i stream mkv files, however when i stream movies, my laptop is over heating and shut down (is hot as hell) after an hour or so. Laptop is dual core 1.6 and the thermal paste on cpu is probably out. So i wanted to stream those movies via note 2. I thought there was an application with internal transcoding possibility like it's in media share on pc. So is it possible or not?

Also the feature that I use the most is YouTube integration. You can use your phone as a controller and watch videos on a big screen:good:
I have bubble full version I downloaded arkmc which ultimately uses bubble what my question is how to view streaming videos on the P's3 because it recognizes bubble as a media server and only allows me to browse to my files rather then stream them
