[Q] SGS2 Won't turn on - Need Data Off (Bell) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi There,
Last month I was on a trip and I took lots of pictures and video of family of family, and filled up my SD card. I switched to internal memory since I didn't have a computer at the time.
I was using my phone on the kitchen table reading a wikipedia article and the screen turned off (automatically). I pressed a button to turn it back on so I could continue reading, and nothing happened. I pressed the power, the home, everything, but got no response from the phone.
I pulled the battery and put it back in, and still got nothing. I have a few spare batteries (and my girlfriend has the same phone so I knew they were fine), and was unable to even get a boot screen.
I pulled the phone in and tried turning it on this way. I felt the area next to the camera get warm, but was still unable to see any other signs of life out of it.
I plugged the phone into my computer as a next step, and the computer didn't recognize it at all. I pressed the power button, the area got warm, but still my computer refused to recognize anything.
I called Bell, and they said there was nothing they could do, but since I had phone insurance, I could get it replaced. I asked them about my pictures, and they said they couldn't do anything to save them.
I called Samsung, and as I was travelling in the US, I got the US Samsung, which, upon hearing the model number, told me to call Samsung UK. I thought that was weird, so I called Samsung Canada through my VoIP account, and they told me to call a local dealer.
I called the local dealer, but they told me they only serviced printers. I called back, and they sent me to Samsung Service Absolut, some outfit in Montreal that services Samsung phones and apparently other things as well. They transferred me around, and told me that they couldn't help me, since the phone seemed to be dead.
I'm trying to locate somebody that can help me get my data from my phone. I've tried contacting a few people, but they told me they couldn't help.
Does anybody here know how to help me?
Thanks!!!!
EDIT: I tried a USB jig and got nothing, no screen, ODIN didn't detect it, my computer didn't detect it (WIndows and Linux both, multiple computers)

Strange...
Give a Try to USB Jig
Get it on ebay

Nope no JTag attempts, how does that work? I believe generally there's a JTag port or something isn't there? Or does it go work via the USB plug?

[Q] T-mobile defective phone trade in help????

I was wondering if t-mobile offers some kind of service for people like me who have t-mobile phones that weren't necessarily purchased by the person bringing it in or bought and activated with them...like if I could pay some sort of extra fee for them to accept my defective "hardware locked" phone for a replacement? Lmk, thanks!
Oh and just to make sure whoever's reading this post understands my predicament; I bought a vibrant off someone from CL, rooted and flashed the robotix1.1w/oc rom, decided I didn't like it so I nandroid restored to a previous stock/root backup and while it was rebooting or doing the backup (I can't remember) the phone just hangs on the vibrant/samsung screen and won't turn off unless I pull the battery. Any help would be appreciated, thanks again!
Does recovery mode work on your phone? Vol Up+Vol Down+Power.

Nope. I can't get into downloader or recovery on it. I've tried literally every method, I've even followed yours to a T in the other couple "hardware locked" vibrant threads but to no avail.
I just noticed that when I plug my phone into a computer, both the internal memory drive and the sd card pop up as drives but both are labeled unknown and seem to be corrupted....

That's because you're not able to push the "Mount USB" button.
It doesn't hurt to ask T-Mobile to replace it. It helps if you're paying for the $6/month warranty.
Yeah, that's what I thought. Damn well I don't think I have that warranty option added on my plan...I hope they replace it.
Should I try to sell it, turn it in, or should I just wait, hold on to it and hope someone figures out some sort or fix?
Try and get it replaced before worrying about it.
I've heard plenty of stories about people getting their phones serviced by the carrier even though they were bought on eBay or whatever.

Thanks for the flame..but did you even read my entire OP? I clearly stated I bought the phone off someone from CL and the reason for my post in the first place was to find out if T-mobile would allow me to swap phones if I paid an extra servicing fee or something.
Of course I wouldn't expect to walk into the store, demand a new phone because mine doesn't work and then get one. I just don't have the extra couple hundred dollars to "buy another one and leave it alone" sorry I'm not rich like you.
If you're not gunna help me out, why don't you just NOT REPLY and leave ME alone.
tmobile exchanged a vibrant i bought off cl, i told them that the youtube app was causing the phone to soft reset everytime I accessed the app. Do not, I repeat, Do not tell tmo that you got the phone off cl. tmo sent me a brand new phone two days later. The only concern i have is the fact that your phone had a custom rom on it, if tmo determines that you installed a custom os which voids your warranty, they will charge you $400 for the replacement phone they sent you.
hope this helps

need advice: bricked Vibrant

I clearly have a hardware locked vibrant. nothing i can do will get it into download mode.
It is currently stuck at the Phone ! Computer screen.
My question is, i am an Att customer, not tmobile. How do i go about getting my phone replaced. I tried contacting the person i bought it from, and he is not responding (a craigslist ad). I went to the local tmobile store and I was told there is nothing they can do. Even thought it shows in the system it was purchased 3 days ago.

Try this:
Take battery out
Put battery back in
DO NOT TURN ON PHONE!
Plug in USB
Wait for the green battery screen
Hold vol+ and vol- at the same time
Hold power
When the battery screen goes black, let go power ONLY.
I had a HW locked phone and this method allowed me to get into DL mode--still couldn't get into recovery, but at least I could use ODIN. Was a null point as the phone is bricked and a new one is on its way...
I will have a RIFF jtag box this Friday. If you can't get it fixed, let me know. I may able to fix yours.
Just an update. Might help others. My phone was hardware locked. I tried all (15) methods to get into download mode. No go. so I made a post on cs paid someone 10 bucks to go in and get it replaced. seriously. no questions asked.
kinda makes you wonder about tmobile...
Well:
It is their branded phone...they sell many of them...not too many people frequent the same same store over and over. It is easy to dupe retailers when "customer service" is the forefront and even if you suspect foul-play, as an employee you are held by protocol.
Capitalism at its finest. I will not say anything about your CS post and method--you already know...and that is how consumers will respond to what they want.

[Q] Help: p500 dead?

I purchased a P500 last month and after two days the phone went dead. I didn't even use it. After two days of being a drawer I turned it on and the screen was stuck on the LG logo. It would not move past that and I couldn't turn it off via the power button. I connected it to my computer and realized I had to download drivers for the phone and did so along with the LG Mobile Updater. I took the battery out of the phone for a few hours and when I came back and put it back in, it did the same thing. This continued for a couple of days. I came to this forum and read about many having the same problem. I tried to connect the phone to the computer but windows still did not recognize the phone, even after installing the drivers. I got the phone into emergency mode and only then did windows recognize it. I then tried to update the phone with LG's Mobile Update, hoping this would restore it to normal and during the update the software froze up, the phone, my computer, mouse--everything. I couldn't do anything. Afraid I might tear up the phone (and my computer) I left it connected hoping that at some point the update would resume on it's own. The next day everything was still frozen! I still couldn't do anything so I disconnected the phone and restarted my computer. My computer is fine, my phone is dead. It will not turn on or take a charge. I know that before hand the battery was full, but even if it wasn't the phone will not even light up when connected to the charger or computer. An even bigger problem is that this model, the P500 is not sold in the US, where I live. It came from Thailand. US division of LG says that it is a UK model and they cannot fix it. They gave me the number to UK's division of LG, who is saying they cannot fix it b/c it's out of region and if they touch it, that voids the warranty. I'd have to send it to someone in the UK so THEY can send it in to be repaired. I don't know anyone in the UK. This sucks b/c it's their software that froze and blew everything. This is a brand new phone. Does anyone know if there is anything I can do? The phone won't even go into emergency mode now.
Was it a branded phone? Orange Vodafone? I'm just curious, this is a hardware fault for sure. The only thing I think you can do is to jump start the battery at a phone repair shop, and if it doesn't work change the terminal.
P.S. 90% of branded phones are refurbished(the low price explication), that's why I asked in the firs pace.

Not that I know of. Nothing says Vodafone on the box it came in. It says LG P500. Doesn't say Vodafone anywhere on the phone either. It (was) running Android 2.1.

GS3 turned off and wont boot

Mods - please move if in incorrect forum.
I was charging my GS3 and after unplugging it, I proceded to turn tethering on, and then put it in my pocket for 5 seconds. I took it out and it had turned off by itself. I cant turn the GS3 back on, either by the power button or using recovery mode. I have tried removing battery for a minute and then holding the power button for 20 seconds but no luck. Nothing at all happens when i plug the charger in, and I have left it in for 30 minutes and the device still wont boot.
Can anybody sugest what I can do to boot the device?
I have had no previous problems like this and im running stock firmware with no root. Im using a mac and not partitioned the drive to install windows and then odin, but I can do so if required.
What firmware are you using in this phone ? (Number if you can find it).
What is the phone ? Galaxy S3 International (GT-I9300) with 16GB inside ?
Perhaps a Sudden Death Symdrom for you with a total death...
Read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133401
First try another charged battery, yours may have just failed. Also check the battery terminals aren't bent or broken.
If it is still dead with a known good battery then looks like a warranty repair is required.
I cant find out the firmware unless I can get back on the phone :/ Yes its an I9300...
The bttery, I will try and find another GS3 owner but I dont think I can find any. Ill have a look into the thread also thanks for the info

I dont understand what that means? I installed an official firmware from on here 7 months ago when I left the UK and have not done anything to my phone since then.

Some device (Galaxy S3 with 16GB of internal storage memory) have a problem with the memory chip. So, if you are running a Jellybean 4.1.2 firmware, samsung have fix the bug and you are cover (so it's not a SDS problem).
But if you phone have an old firmware, you may be affected by this trouble. If it's your case, the unique solution is to put your phone on a repair center.
first, try a different battery. if that fails - send it to service for a motherboard replacement

Ive tried using a different battery and that doesnt seem to work either. The other GS3 works perfectly fine with my battery inside which suggests its a problem with my handset...
How can i find a dealer to send my unit to? I used to flash custom ROMs to the device but went back to stock 7 months ago when I left the UK to travel Australia, and did not reset the binary counter so it wont be covered by warranty
Since its dead they can't see binary counter. Best bet, send it to friend in uk for samsung repair...
I assume you have some sort of electronic copy of a receipt?

Ive currently got my mum looking for the physical receipt. I could try and get an electronic proof of useage from Vodafone who I bought the phone from but problably not a "receipt".
Dont really want t send my phone back to the UK, it wil be expensive and Im not sure when im returning home, so it may be quicker/cheaper to either take home myself or to try get it sorted here :/

If it's a contract phone, contact vodafone directly, probably won't need a receipt.
Is shipping a small package that expensive? Cheaper than a motherboard I bet

Yeah its a contract phone so thats good news
Shipping my phone would be expensive as I would have to have buy insurance, maybe $20 or something?

Cheaper than £150 GBP / $250 AUD for a used motherboard then Which by having it fitted, will void your 2 years EU warranty
Yeah, you are right. I think im just going to wait until I get back to the UK in a few months and send it off. I would get it done when i go to Asia next week but I am not staying in one place long enough - im guessing it would take a few weeks from sending it in to getting it back?
Also, I dropped my phone a few month back and the screen is all damaged but still useable. Samsung will still fix the problem I take it and not refuse to due to the damaged screen?

Low/No connectivity from repaired S3

Hi All,
I had to get my S3 repaired by Carphone warehouse recently, they replaced the entire LCD screen.
So before I had it repaired the phone would connect to my home wifi while I was in my room, but since having my phone repaired I can't connect from my room anymore. When I'm near the wifi, 5-6m away the phone will connect fine.
Could they have done something during the repair which has stopped it working? Or could it be something else?
Ah also on the rare occasion that my phone picks up my home wifi when I try to connect I get an authentication error...
Thanks for any help

Could be several things, you didn't say why the screen was replaced -dropped? Aerial module damaged or not properly connected, software updated.
You'd probably be best to take it back and describe the problem.
First delete and remake your wifi settings to the router .
Fails then restore your Nandroid or factory reset fails return the phone .

The sensitive buttons on the bottom of the phone had stopped working. That was the only issue with the old phone

Done that
Looks like it'll be another trip to CPW tomorrow.
Bit annoying as this is my second S3. Bought one in May last year and early this year the phone kept restarting, CPW 'fixed' it but the issues remained to they gave me a new one in April time.
Sent the brand new one off for repair just last week for the problem with the touch screen buttons.
Both phones were in excellent condition, no marks or drops! This has really put me off buying another Samsung phone unfortunately
Haven't with worked on the s3 but on many of the other galaxy phones the WiFi reception is extremely poor with the back removed... Seems the actual antenna is mounted in the back and contacts the main board when the back is installed. It's possible that those contacts got bent or something when the back was off.
